I had an account with them for 3 years, and they simply closed my account, saying it was due to fraud, but they didn't explain why. They closed the account with all my savings in it. Awful personal bankers, rude staff, weak management. They don't want to help customers when. You show up 5 minutes before close. If you show up during the day they only have 1 personal banker, no one else. All the other personal are gone. Insert excuses here: 1 banker quit recently, 1 sick, 1 going on vacation, and a security guard that is pretending to be a personal banker. Avoid this if you need any support beyond very basic teller transaction... eg personal bankers. Also there online hours show they are open but be careful to show up on certain. I've been a Chase customer for about 10 years--I came along with your acquisition of Washington Mutual. Unfortunately, my experiences with your ATM service has made me decide to leave Chase. I've started banking with Bank of America instead. Chase has denied 5 of my ATM transactions over the past couple months: In Auburn, San Francisco, Alameda, and twice in Oakland. The explanation provided to me has been "fraud protection." I'm not convinced this is true, but if so, then clearly your algorithms aren't striking the right balance between security and convenience. Even so, I feel we could've worked this out. You could've made it right. Getting denied at the ATM is bad, but not necessarily enough to switch banks. Unfortunately, your support just isn't good enough to overcome your poor software. For example, first denial was outside an open branch (October 15, 2018). It was fairly easy to go inside and get my money instead. But could the teller tell me why the ATM denied me? No. And so instead of talking to the banker right in front of me, I later got a robocall from a number I didn't recognize. Second denial was at a drive-though ATM, because the walk-up ATM was broken (did I mention you have ATM issues?). You followed up with an SMS asking about an ATM transaction I did over a month before--as if I'm supposed to just remember exact dates and amounts? Besides, I think the question was about the transaction I was denied. So "Did you make a withdrawal on...?" is hard to answer. Is it yes because I attempted it? Or is it no because I didn't actually get my money? Third denial, I knew the drill. I immediately called the number on the back of my card. After a fair amount of rigmarole, I got a promise my card would work again in 5 minutes. 5 minutes later, it didn't work. Another call. Total time to make an ATM withdrawal? 25 minutes. At that point, I decided to stop to banking at Chase. Though in the transition, I actually got denied a fourth time (Oakland), and a fifth (Alameda). At this point, I suspect you know you have a problem with your ATM network, but just aren't admitting it to customers. No matter--I'm no longer a customer. read more

You'd be better off burying your money in the back yard. Seven years ago, flush with cash from the sale of our family home, my father invested $300k with Chase's brokerage arm, and we were promised excellent returns and service. We got neither. Three years later, during the 2nd term of the Obama administration when the stock market was gaining in the double digits annually, I withdrew his investment. What was the total gain on $300k for 3 years? It was a loss, actually, of about $40k. This money was to be used to pay for the care of my mom and dad, one with Alzheimer's and one with Parkinson's. We never received a single call from our 'Private Client' banker, advising that the investment was underperforming and that perhaps, a change should be made. But they took their fees for sure. Someone has to pay for all of those false promises and there's also the shareholders to consider. If you take that loss and extrapolate the time value through May 2021 based on average stock market returns, the loss of wealth suffered by my father and now the heirs to his estate is around $130,000. It's a result that people should be fired over. It's unconscionable. And it gets worse. Fast forward to 2021 in the middle of the COVID-19 pandemic when the government and reputable companies were doing everything to help Americans who had been impacted by COVID-19 (my business shut in October, my partner was laid off from his job in February), and I receive a letter from Chase that basically says you don't have enough money in our bank to be Private Client customers and that I was being downgraded to normal customer status. One of the benefits taken away, fees for NSF charges. The next month I was charged over $600 for NSF fees. Little charges like $4.99 for a Dropbox subscription, resulted in an NSF fee of $39 per incident. Given our reduced income as a result of the pandemic, I had to decide -- make my car payment or pay for NSF fees. I chose my car. Several weeks later, Chase suspended my online account access and closed the account in question. I finally paid off the $600 in fees. My online banking has yet to be turned back on. Calls to their customer service center resulted in long wait times, over an hour in some cases. The reason -- increased call volumes due to the pandemic. You would think they would hire a few more people with all the money they are sucking out of the pockets of working class Americans, struggling to stay afloat during the COVID crisis. But no. And the last and final bitter pill in the story--Chase announced record earnings in the last quarter. Pictures on the net showed the beaming faces of self congratulation of what I assumed were executives at Chase. All men, all middle aged all white. I'm just saying. To me, Chase represents the worst qualities of the big banks, number one of which is a tireless focus on building shareholder wealth on the backs of their customers. Working class Americans who really can't afford a $39 fee for a mistake that costs Chase just cents to process. I'll go further, how about un-American and un-patriotic? Disgusting opportunists who couldn't wait 6 months to enact a policy change when the worst of the pandemic was behind us. No. They needed their victory lap on Wall Street now. I think it's time for the government to step in and investigate the bank fees charged by organizations like Chase. Ordinary Americans are suffering because these fees are so ridiculous. $39 per incident. No monthly cap. Why not Just make it an even $100. It will be easier to calculate how many times you'd be charged in a month. No matter what your political party affiliation, this affects you. Especially if you're not one of the top 1% who don't pay NSF fees at Chase anyway. Although they are probably paying a much bigger price due to the incompetence of Chase brokerage. I have a new mantra for us all: STOP THE STEAL CHASE BANK! Write your local congressperson and demand change. That's what I'm doing. Together, we can wipe those snug smiles right off their greedy faces. read more

I have patiently waited 9 days for you to mail a new debit card. As of today, I still have no card. I also have no Netflix, no PlayStation, no Amazon prime, and no cable service. I had a bad experience at Chase in Lafayette, so I thought I'd try this branch since I wanted to take advantage of the bonus they offer new customers. I initially wanted to open an account and keep it open for the minimum amount of time to qualify for the bonus. That was until I met the most amazing banker ever, Rachel. Rachel isn't only super nice, but also professional and has so much knowledge about banking. She gave both my husband and I some great advice. I didn't even know it was possible to have such a fantastic banker before! After being told previously by a personal banker trying to up sell me, when I brought quarters from my building laundry to deposit, the teller indignantly told me that I must be mistaken, kept questioning which banker told me that, and that I had to roll the quarters, just as they have insisted for years. Which is why Coinstar keeps raising their percentage. I was actually pleased that banks were going to start actually providing a service again, instead of (rude) human ATM machines. read more
