The room 234 and overal hotel has maintenance and cleanliness issues, and that's because the…read moremanager whoever he/she is, does not care: -The phone number I called several times, and no one answered -The couch in this room smells like hell, omg -The blinds are torn and someone used white tape to cover up the rips, very bad look. -The carpet has a few little pieces coming up -The corners have white corner gaurds, instead of using colored ones to match the walls, very cheap to do -The hallways have stained up carpet -The exterior windows are dirty with spider, cobwebs and just plain dirt -The hallways are too dimly lit -I noticed no camera in the elevator waiting area, this is unsafe -The food is expensive and adds 18% tip, no choice in the matter -The general lobby area rug is a mess, with stains and needing vacuuming -The landscaping was a wreck, needs mowing bushes trimmed evenly, sidewalks needs a good powerwash The OK-somewhat good: -The bed is comfortable and the sheets were clean and smelled nice -The customer service at the lobby desk was good, they were nice each time -The food was good (just too expensive) Solution: -Hire a new hotel manager that will care about the hotel, organized, making making sure everything is clean, smelling nice, landscape and parking lot are clean and train the entire staff to be detail oriented. Unfortunately, the condition of room 302 did not reflect the positive experiences I've had here in the past. One of the window shades was completely broken and sealed shut. So you have to do without the natural light. The bedside table next to the bed was damaged, I couldn't put my nighttime water next to my bed for fear of it falling off. And I was assigned an accessible bathroom (I never chose that option), that had a persistent leak, causing water to run throughout the night. I was tired and needed a place to shower and sleep for the night, so I didn't march downstairs and bring up all these concerns to the front desk. Also, the front desk person could have been friendly upon checking in. This level of maintenance and room quality is not what I have come to expect from this hotel. Given my previous good stays, I was surprised and unhappy with the overall condition of the room during this visit. I hope management addresses these issues so future guests can enjoy the high standard of accommodations that has made this one of my preferred places to stay in the East Bay.

I hadn't earned miles through my Asia Miles account for close to 18 months. If I had not earned miles by May 30 all the miles I earned through Asia Miles will reset to zero. One of their partners is Courtyard by Marriott. I reserved a room for two nights during Memorial Weekend. The reason I booked Courtyard Newark Silicon Valley was due to the swimming pool as I needed something to do on my staycation. I came here Saturday afternoon. The guest room is spacious enough. The bed was really comfy. The staff was really nice. The lobby was clean and organized. I even like the Keurig coffee machine inside the room that had some coffee pods. There's a cafe opened in the morning when you can buy coffee and hot food. Despite all the positive attributes of this Marriott I gave the rating I did because I came for a staycation. After I checked-in on a Saturday afternoon I tried to swim in the swimming pool. Noticed I said "tried", but the swimming pool was cold. I ended going to the whirlpool. The next day on a Sunday I came back to the swimming in the afternoon. I noticed the debris from trees in the pool. There are a lot of trees around the pool. With the abundance of trees this pool needs to be cleaned constantly. During my stay there not only was the pool cold but also dirty. THE BETTER MARRIOTT OPTION…read more Last year during Memorial Day Weekend I stayed at the Courtyard by Marriott for a staycation. As a Cathay Pacific member I earn miles not only on flights, but also on accommodations like Marriott, which is a partner of Cathay Pacific. However if I don't earn miles within 18 months my Cathay Pacific miles will reset to zero. This year my Cathay Pacific miles would reset to zero by the end of November as the last time I earned miles was May of last year. Since I had staycation at a Marriott hotel during a 3-day holiday weekend a little more than a year ago I thought about staying at another one to earn Cathay Pacific miles. However I didn't want to stay at the Courtyard. Next to the Courtyard is Residence Inn where I booked a two-night stay during Labor Day weekend. There are two features Residence Inn has over Courtyard. First there is a breakfast buffet. Two the swimming pool is heated. On the Saturday before Labor Day I swam at the swimming pool. When you first enter the pool it is lukewarm, but the longer you stay inside the pool you feel warm. I also like the length of the pool. For the three straight days, including my checkout date on Labor Day, I swam at Residence Inn. One benefit of the heated pool is you can swim until 10:00 PM. Regarding the breakfast buffet there are not a lot of items. I like the breakfast sandwiches yet the scrambled eggs were too wet. The interesting aspect of the breakfast at Residence Inn is the waffle station where you cook your own waffles. The room is a studio. It has a kitchen. The queen size bed is comfortable. Comparing the rooms I prefer the room at the Courtyard over Residence Inn as the room felt more spacious and not as tight. However if I had to stay at a Marriott hotel in Newark I prefer Residence Inn over Courtyard.

The reviews said that it was a tedious process to set up and it's expensive. There are Tesla superchargers 5 minutes away if you need them. No microwaves in your room. However, within a few minutes , the front desk told us was told that there was no staff for it. A lot of the ice machines were out and not working and also I hope they get the refrigerator in the café area checked. The first morning that we had breakfast there I went and grabbed yogurt for our daughter, and I realize that the yogurt lids were not properly sealed, so I threw it away, and I grabbed a new one only to discover it had the same problem. Then I noticed some of the yogurt was doming like they were fermenting. It was brought to the attention of the staff and they threw away yogurt. Then the next day, my husband grabbed a milk out of that same refrigerator and it was completely bad well before expiration date. Again, let staff know but it sounds like they definitely need a thermometer in that refrigerator and that refrigerator should be replaced. The hotel overall is really nice and the staff is really nice. I just think it's interesting that things are not well managed or well maintained.
