My first time at the Scarborough location and I must say I am impressed with the good quality and service at any given time you visit this location from the afternoon to the evening. Me and my friends had an amazing server who made sure our experience was welcoming and checked in to make sure we had everything we needed. The skewers as always were freshly grilled right in front of our eyes which shows they don't hide the process of grilling to perfection! The music in the background is fun and lively which matches the vibe of the location. I can't wait to go back!

Cash or debit only Good skewer place with limited seating Good portions and flavours Prices seem to have raised a little Service was good, the young waitress was really sweet but she was all alone. She also said she accidentally added an item that she couldn't remove and wants us to just let it be added to my bill. Bottled beers only, no draft pitchers. Later on in the night they turn down the lights and turn up the music. Good vibes, good restaurant

Back in late July, I was fortunate to have won a gift card to dine at Chat Bar's Scarborough location. There were restrictions on this gift card: - I had to specify a date between July 22 and August 5 (Civic Holiday) - I could only specify dropping by its Spadina or Scarborough location - Once this gift card was configured for the date that I wanted, I couldn't change it. I needed help. I asked two friends to join me. Sadly, one couldn't make it. Despite missing that person, we had a great time enjoying dinner here on a Wednesday night. One friend is a colleague. The other one was our intern. She has since completed her work term and we all ended up being friends. We left work at around 4 pm. Highway 401 was busy, but it was surprisingly not as horrible as it could have been. This Chat Bar location is roughly a five-minute drive from my home. My friend also lives in Markham. It was nice to drive northwest to drop her home after we had stuffed ourselves silly with yummy food. There was lots of parking in this plaza. It was fairly busy at around 5:30 pm. I backed into a spot and walked in. We were greeted by two women. I indicated that I had a gift card. I had to show it to them on my phone. They nodded and got us a cozy table to sit down. We liked the large chalkboard with art. This lighting provided a warm, cozy ambiance. It was nice hanging out with good company. We got water to start. Ordering consisted of scanning a QR code and ordering online. You don't pay online. Our rather long list of items consisted of these items: - Black pepper kalbi beef - Grilled sausage - Pork belly - Mini cuttlefish balls - Honey wings with garlic - Enoki mushrooms - House special potato slices - Grilled pineapple - Lychee nigori We originally wanted to try the Japanese peach sparking wine. Sadly, the LCBO strike had just been lifted, but this eatery didn't have a chance to replenish its stock. Instead, we got the lychee nigori. It worked out, as its price managed to get us over my gift card's value. Staff were extremely attentive and helpful throughout our stay. They deserve top marks for making our experience memorable and great. The table had warming tray for the skewers. There were two tea light candles that kept everything warm. We loved everything that we had consumed. Some highlights: - The proteins on skewers were so tender and flavourful. We both felt that the black pepper kalbi beef and pork belly were exceptional out of the batch. - The enoki mushrooms were delicious. They came in an aluminum foil packet. Anything in aluminum foil had lots of chopped garlic. Specifically, the house special potato slices were divine. They were so garlicky. Love! - Get the wings. The honey wings with garlic were done well. We enjoyed them immensely. - The grilled pineapple felt like dessert. If you love fruit that gets even sweeter grilled, get these skewers. If you feel like splurging on booze, I highly recommend the lychee nigori. It was fantastic. It was saki with the perfect lychee flavour in each sip. The bottle looks large, but it's not. We had no problem downing it. We polished everything off, except for the sliced potatoes. I asked my friend if she wanted them to take home. She let me take them instead. I got them boxed up and they were even better the following day! My friend felt the need to grab the remaining $10 that we owned. She paid with a debit card through her phone. Done! We got white rabbit candy before we left. I hadn't had some in years. It was a nice touch. I highly recommend dropping by. We had fun and waddled out just fine afterwards. We still talk about this meal and the need to return. (344)

Wen to Chat Bar last Saturday with my friend The environment was cozy, other than menu was hard to read as it's dark and menu paper was brown....lol We ordered cabbage, lamb skewers, garlic eggplant, a spicy hot po, cold cucumbers..the portion was good, we were both so full...price was reasonable Good hang out and chill place with friends on weekends or week nights

Great place to catch up with friends and CHAT! We came around 615pm on a Saturday night and it wasn't crazy busy as I have heard seats got taken up real quick most of the time, therefore we were lucky that we were placed at a corner big table (after vaccine & ID check). We have ordered quick a bit of food- squid, beef, lamb, chicken heart, aorta, pork belly, oysters, veggie, scallop... Each order came in 4 skewers, while the mini sizing ones (yes, they have a few of that) came in 10 skewers. They were all fully cooked before bringing it out to you and placed on the stone plate that was meant to keep the food warm (not that it's really doing its job as I can touch the plate easily). All skewers were seasoned really well, with the perfect kick in spice. The minced garlic on the oyster and scallop were a bit salty, but if you put the whole oyster/ scallop in your mouth, it's just perfect as it somehow brought out the natural sweetness of the seafood. Price was a bit high considering you only get 4 skewers per order (roughly $8), so it is best to come with more people so you won't be putting as big of a dent to your wallet per person.

I've never had a bad dish here, and now that patios are open, was dying to go back! Man, what a luxury to have fresh food again that hasn't gotten lukewarm after sitting in a delivery car for 30 mins! We had it all, grilled sausage, beef skewers, lamb skewers, rice cakes, kimchi fried rice, and cheese sweet potato! The favourites every time are always the rice cakes and sausages, we always regret not ordering enough. Best part of the experience, definitely the server! We were seated in Nicole's section and she was the BEST!!! SOOO FRIENDLY! Made us realize what we were missing all this time by just ordering takeout from random restaurants. Super quick and efficient when bringing out items, always checking in on us, and you can totally tell she's always smiling under that mask! 10/10 would recommend checking this place out and hope Nicole is your server! Girl, we look forward to returning and hope to see you again!

Great place for skewers. We went on a Tuesday night and were seated right away. They provided us with a complimentary appetizer of broccoli and some other vegetables. We ordered the beef shorts rib, chicken, pork belly, and okra skewers. We also got a lotus root and cheese corn. The skewers were served on top of a plate heated by a couple of candles. Get the cheese corn! All the food was really tasty but the cheese corn was our favourite (we had to order another one). Will definitely come back to try their other skewers and for more cheese corn.

I had the best time at Chat Bar! For those of you who have been to the Markham location as well, I personally prefer this location more (Scarborough)! The service was absolutely amazing, and the space was larger than the Markham location. Shoutout to Ada who was so attentive and helpful! If you enjoy well seasoned skewers, trying an assortment of new things, and cumin - this place is for you. Things come default spicy so if you can't handle it, be sure to ask for it mild. Our personal favourites are, the kimchi fried rice or the short rib fried rice, chicken skin skewer, red sausage, pork, beef and cheese corn. If you want an ambient evening with dim light and cozy feelings, check out Chat Bar :)!

This is a fun and quaint restaurant that serves skewers and such. There were a variety of meats that were deliciously prepared. The restaurant is not very large but it is a cozy and friendly atmosphere. We really enjoyed our meal here and thought the service was attentive and friendly!

This place has great skewers. Loads of variety, but the seasoning for all is pretty much the same. Definitely a place to try. This place can get very pricey depending how much you order. We loved the squid, lamb, chicken skin, okra, and intestine. Would love to see a larger alcohol menu/pitcher options.

    Cindy L.

Such attentive service that it makes me wanna give 5 stars!!! But I need to factor in the food too and some of dishes were just ok... Would love to go back later in the evening when they crank up on the music. When we were about to leave, that's when it started to turnt up. Lol. Check out the food spread The pork belly (and rice one too), okra, mushroom, eggplant!!! Were some of my favs. Lol! Corn next time please!

Y U M M Y. Though it's on a pricier end for skewers in the area, it's still one of my favourite places to go. Having skewers on a hot plate with their spicy beef noodle soup just screams comfort to me. This pairing is my absolute favourite and can never get tired of it! It does get a bit spicy so sometimes we ask for less spice as it's all one flavour and tends to be too much

The use of traditional elements, paper-cut window designs, red Spring Festival couplets, old-style newspaper wall coverings, and exposed brick adds a strong sense of nostalgia. It feels immersive and intentional, almost like stepping into a countryside home in Dongbei rather than a typical restaurant. The décor isn't fancy, but it's rich in cultural detail and warmth, perfectly matching the hearty, comforting style of Northeast Chinese cuisine. The space is unique and perfect for taking photos. The food here is very generous. We ordered the 4-person set with two side pots. Tomato Braised Beef Brisket and Chicken Stewed with Mushrooms and the portions were huge. Both pots arrived steaming hot and filled to the brim, clearly meant for sharing. The braised beef was rich and hearty, while the chicken pot was comforting and full of flavor, making it perfect for group dining or cold weather meals. Combined with the rustic, traditional décor, it really feels like authentic Northeast Chinese comfort food. The food and atmosphere were excellent, though the service was a bit lacking. Prices are reasonable for the generous portion sizes and the unique restaurant décor.

Everything tasted great. The crab was a little overcooked as the meat stuck to the shell and the steak was a bit under and more rare than medium rare but everything was delicious. This location is much more modern and nicer than their original location in Scarborough. Didn't realize you get a discount if you come on your birthday for the whole table. I was hoping to find something special on the menu. The Peking duck caught my eye at around $70, but then I discovered that almost everything else was extra--lettuce wraps, stir-fried duck meat, fried rice, and soup. By the time you add the extras, the bill is easily another $50 or more, bringing the total to well over $120. We decided to pass, and judging from the dishes we did order, that was probably the right decision. The hot and sour soup had plenty of heat and tang but lacked depth of flavor and was under-seasoned for my taste. Fortunately, we only ordered a small bowl. The deep-fried tofu was bland and forgettable. The stir-fried shrimp was acceptable but nothing special. The biggest disappointment was the sweet and sour pork. I specifically asked the server to make sure the pork was crispy, but it arrived soft and lumpy rather than light and crunchy. Even the complimentary red bean dessert soup was watery and lacked flavor. Our bill came to about $104 for two people. For the quality of the food, I didn't feel it offered good value. Sadly, after several disappointing visits, I don't think we'll be returning.

The individual New Century slow boiled soup is hardest to share but secure some empty bowls and you can divide the hefty portion. In the winter, there's a silkiness to the piping hot consommé that sooths a dry throat and has an umami essence infused with abalone, ginseng, and pork. There's plenty to choose from in the house signature combo platter including roasted duck, soy sauce chicken, BBQ pork, pork slices, and seaweed salad. Saving my stomach for the later dishes, I had a taste of the duck (a good start with crispy skin) and BBQ pork (satisfactory and well flavoured). With the generous portion of chicken in the combo platter, the slow cooked chicken with abalone broth seemed like overkill. I've never been a huge fan of this dish that's served cold since I prefer chicken hot. Still, I understand it's the jelly layer between the skin and meat that people enjoy. And to be fair, the chicken was tender, and New Century certainly didn't skimp on the ginger and scallion oil. For those who tend to fill-up before the "main dishes", the stars of the combo arrive mid-meal. The stir-fried Vancouver crabs with silver fish in HK style spicy sauce needs to be eaten at arrival as the crunchy coating is best straight from the fryer. And despite not looking spicy, the dish has a light heat that permeates in the background. Additionally, the crab was fresh and meaty, cooked well so it remained delicately flakey. The amount of sweet and sticky sauce used in the stir-fried lobsters with scallion in Maggie sauce was well balanced, lightly covering the crustaceans. Both lobsters were substantial; even after eating many pieces, we still had plenty of leftovers. This is a long review head to Gastro World for the rest.
