Visit Date: December 15, 2020 I have a friend who works here and I promised her I'd pop in during one of my lunch breaks because I work in the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library nearby. She did me a solid and gave me some toothpicks for a friend who's in the hospital now so I figured today was the day to stop by and get that lunch. I had a bacon & cheese omelet with coffee and home fries. It was pretty damn good! The staff was super friendly, my service was pretty fast and everyone was helpful. What more could I ask for. Since it's near the holidays I left a better tip, I try my best to tip fair or good anyway if I can. This is definitely a nice little diner to come visit if you live in the area or are near the area. Was excited to try this place as everyone raves about it! We arrived and was greeted promptly by Jeffery, who was extremely friendly and attentive. Jeffery knew it was our first time and made our experience great! We were unsure of what dressing to use for our salads and he brought out each one for us to try. I ordered the chicken salad mish and my boyfriend ordered the tuna mish. We also got onion rings and fries. The salads were beautifully chopped but we both felt that the flavoring of the salads was just okay. It was still good and I'm glad we tried it, but wouldn't go out of my way to come back here. This place is cute. They have outside seating covered by a tent, which is great for any kind of weather. The service was good even though I think Jimmy the waiter over charged me ($4.70) for a cup of regular tea(not a specialty tea) because I said I didn't like the taste of the coffee. I ordered a veggie omelette which was good by needed a little Salt & Pepper. My Aunt ordered a bagel & lox and said it was delicious. The other good about this place is the food came out really fast. Mish was delish. Corn Muffins were the best I ever had. Ever. Fries were heaven. Coffee was roasting and hot. Our waitress was friendly. I ordered the BLT mish - turkey club. So I happened to be in the neighborhood and wanted something other than fast food. Since this shop faces a train station it can be challenging to find a parking spot. Otherwise it was easy to find but is off the main street. When we arrived we were offered the option to eat in or outdoors. They do have a couple of heat lamps outside just in case it gets breezy out. The staff was very courteousness and quick( thanks Jimmy). There were many options to choose from- similar to a diner. The food was good- creamy eggs, hot coffee, great home fries made the way I requested. Due to COVID we were given paper coffee cups and they made it so you don't have to open or close the entry door. Where could they improve? The decor needs updating. Fine for regulars but not if you want to impress anyone. Also- guess it's due to COVID-19-there is no bathroom available. read more

What a disappointment!!! Not in the food but the ownership! My son order's from them everyday ,the same thing everyday .Get's order wrong this one day, son calls and the lovely waitress apologizes and says can you bring the sandwiches back which is a no being he is a HS student who cannot now leave campus being lunch is over and he can't miss class. Waitress understands and says No worries come tomorrow and we'll replace at N/c, great. Next day son walks over to pick up his lunch and OWNER yells at him in front of a packed restaurant stating that next time he doesn't bring the incorrect items back he will not replace them and with that THROWS the bag at him!!!!!!! I do not understand the appeal Chateau. First of all, the place is about as big as an above-ground swimming pool on a 10X10 lot. The waitresses (who have probably worked there since 1978) don't give you a menu because you should already KNOW what the serve there. The last time I was there the waitress actually SIGHED HEAVILY when I asked for a menu. The tables are so close together that you hear the people sitting next to you digest their food. Now, let us talk about the customers. The five towns is a curious area in that almost everyone thinks they are entitled to everything, and they aren't afraid to tell you or push you because you are blocking what they want. The people in here will stare at you if you do not look like them. They will listen to your conversation. They will chew LOUDLY with their mouth open. And seriously, the mish? I can chop lettuce finely and mix in some tuna or chicken salad and call it a day. read more

I try to go back to The Chateau as much as possible when I return to my old neighborhood. Yes, I will admit it, I am a former Five Towner - but a nice one!! You can't go wrong with anything you order here. The place opens very early to accommodate those who need a quick fix for their ride into the City (directly across from the Woodmere train station) or just to relax and read the paper over a nice cup of coffee (tea for me) and an extremely filling breakfast (pancakes, omelette's, even the muffins are the best). Prices are very inexpensive which makes paying by "cash only" not a problem. I usually get the Hamburger Deluxe for lunch (served with the biggest, most delicious beer battered onion rings you have ever tasted) and my Egg Cream for dessert. For the healthier eater, you have to get the Mish. My friends always joked that the "Mish" was named after me. Well, it wasn't - but, if you love salads, this is what they are famous for. Everything is mixed and chopped, by hand, with your choice of Tuna, Chicken, and Roasted Turkey on top. It's simple but something about it makes it so damn good!! Larry and Sandy are the owners and they always make you feel welcome. LOT's of regulars come back to The Chateau, it's small so it can be a little noisy. I personally like my seat at the counter so that doesn't even bother me because I'm there for the oh so delicious food!! So, next time you're in the area, try to make it a point to visit The Chateau and experience the feeling of a real old fashioned coffee house - and become another one of their "regulars". read more

I love this place. The interior is a flashback to a 1950s coffee shop. I had a cup of split pea soup which was nice and thick. Afterwards I had a chicken salad sandwich on toasted whole wheat was very good. The service was great and friendly.
