Omelet, coffee and my latest reading
    Diana B.

Visit Date: December 15, 2020 I have a friend who works here and I promised her I'd pop in during one of my lunch breaks because I work in the Hewlett-Woodmere Public Library nearby. She did me a solid and gave me some toothpicks for a friend who's in the hospital now so I figured today was the day to stop by and get that lunch. I had a bacon & cheese omelet with coffee and home fries. It was pretty damn good! The staff was super friendly, my service was pretty fast and everyone was helpful. What more could I ask for. Since it's near the holidays I left a better tip, I try my best to tip fair or good anyway if I can. This is definitely a nice little diner to come visit if you live in the area or are near the area. See Sam if you're in here!

Was excited to try this place as everyone raves about it! We arrived and was greeted promptly by Jeffery, who was extremely friendly and attentive. Jeffery knew it was our first time and made our experience great! We were unsure of what dressing to use for our salads and he brought out each one for us to try. I ordered the chicken salad mish and my boyfriend ordered the tuna mish. We also got onion rings and fries. The salads were beautifully chopped but we both felt that the flavoring of the salads was just okay. It was still good and I'm glad we tried it, but wouldn't go out of my way to come back here. If we do, we'll try something different. Thanks for a great first experience!

#Food - Excellent; They make it the way you want it. I'm a "Real Pain in the Ass" & always want my scrambled eggs soft, potatoes well done and my toast well done. These guys actually do it. The waitress at the counter was very friendly and polite. Service excellent! Nice people running this place. A bit of a challenge to find, I damn near passed by it. Seems like their is plenty of street parking. I'll be back, this time with my girlfriend. Not sure what "The Mash" was. But, it looks and sounds good! You will enjoy!

Like a wonderfull trip back in time the Chateau is probably the closest your going to come to eating at Woolworths lunch counter, all the staples are here, burgers, fries, hot dogs and shakes, lest we forget a chopped salad that they have become somewhat famous for called The Mish.Everything is exactly as you would expect it to be down to the little china plates the food it served on..nothing fancy here, but fancy is not why you come here, order a burge, fries, and a shake ,enjoy the characters at, and behind the counter and let the warm fuzzyness take you over....didnt think places like this still exsited, Im glad they do.

Strange...just strange…read more My friend and I were waiting for the Jetty to open for brunch so we thought we would grab a drink somewhere else while we wait. We were even considering other spots for brunch since we weren't married to any particular option. Unfortunately, our experience made us not want to stick around and we ventured on. As we were walking by and peering in to check out the scene, a man standing outside the restaurant with his bike said something like "Go ahead, they're open". It didn't look like he was affiliated with the restaurant but later on it seemed like he knew the DJ. Yes there was a DJ set up by the bar, but they were playing jazz music. Now I love jazz but to me this was a tiny bit odd. I'm use to seeing live jazz on premise. But that was the least of our worries. We then went to order brunch cocktails and they have a great selection. To switch it up a bit and because it was on the menu, we ordered two Bellinis. It felt like it too over a half hour for our drinks. A Bellini is champagne and peach juice/purée. The champagne was poured but it took forever for them to get to finishing our very simple drink. The purée was in the fridge under the bar. Again no they much of a stretch, but it seemed like a tall order. The bar seemed to be run by two people, both a man and a woman. The place itself wasn't crowded but he seemed like the two of them as well as the other staff seemed overwhelmed. We finally got our Bellinis and after waiting an exorbitant amount of time to get these two simple drinks, we were pitched on staying for brunch. This might have been considered if we didn't see the kitchen staff berate the front of the house right in front of customers. It really left a bad taste in our mouth. The Bellini was fine...and as soon as we finished it we dropped some money at the bar and left. Definitely disappointing because it has potential.

I came here on Sunday before exploring the beach and chose it after reading several detailed 5-star…read morereviews. I was indeed excited to come here so it pains me to leave them (or any business really) a 2 star review.. it really does. It seems they took over from a former restaurant named Island Thyme early last year, so perhaps they still are experiencing growing pains. There was also a private party going on, so that clearly played a factor in their disorganization. Upon entry, the owner asked if we'd like to eat indoors or outdoors. As I was about to respond, she stated "you'll have to sit outdoors, we have a private party inside." Interesting start. After we were seated, my date noticed most of the staff seemed a bit dejected and I replied "Well in my time as a server years ago, that usually reflects not so great management." Sadly I think I was correct. Our food took at least 45 minutes to arrive. At about the half hour mark, the owner came to the table and said that our food is coming out "right now." We ordered a grilled cheese and a burger, which both came with a side of fries. The burger wasn't too bad (except for an indelible crunchy piece that I had to place into my napkin). The fries on the other hand were most definitely undercooked. I took a few bites of the grilled cheese, which I did find quite tasty. After we finished our meal, we heard the owner tell a table that they are BYOB, so they can feel free to grab a beverage from the deli across the street. That information would definitely have been welcomed, as we could sure have used a drink while waiting for the food. When the owner finally came by to check on us (after we ate), we asked for the check. We then watched as she then greeted new guests for the private party and seemingly forgot about us for over 10 minutes. Luckily, a different waitress noticed the credit card I had placed on the side of the table and asked if we would like our check. Everyone's human and we all have off-days/nights, so while my date was quite frustrated and still hungry (barely ate half her food), I figured you can't win 'em all. Little did I know that the best was yet to come. After having to track down a pen to sign the bill, the owner approached us one last time. "Hey I'm the owner and I just wanted to say... can you leave your tip in cash." All in all, great location, good concept, but definitely a severe lack of execution. Perhaps the next time they book a private party, they should consider closing it off to the public, as I noticed several other tables seeming frustrated or ignored as well.

For dessert, we shared bread pudding, sliced thin and very delicious.

I would probably go here way too often if it was more conveniently located. The veggie panino is very tasty. The raspberry scone is a yummy treat-- I Love that it has icing drizzled on it. I think I'd like it even more if the actual scone was made with less sugar, and more sugary icing were drizzled on top, but it's wonderful as is. Very fresh tasting and soft inside. The chai latte wasn't on the menu, but they made it for me and it was great. I'm looking forward to trying more things on the menu. The staff there are lovely and clearly care about their customers. It's nice that the owners incorporated their culture into the identity of the cafe by giving the restaurant and some menu items Italian names. This place is authentic and special, and unlike some other Italian cafes or vegan places, this one has a vibe that is approachable for and welcoming to people of all different walks of life and dietary preferences.

The great-looking lineup of muffins and even homemade biscotti(!) in the display case caught our attention immediately, and by the time we took a look at the menu, we were truly hooked. All of their plant-based meats are homemade from whole foods, such as the signature chorizo (lentils and tofu) and the chicken cutlet (chickpeas). A refreshing change from the highly processed vegan meats served almost everywhere else. We were blown away by the chorizo broccoli rabe sandwich served on sourdough - possibly the best sandwich we've ever had. The tofu scramble bowl was also fantastic, with well-executed details such as green beans mixed in and a side of delicious roasted rosemary potatoes (and a generous side of avocado). The matcha chocolate chip muffin was delicious, as was the almond biscotti. We also really enjoyed the coffee (drip coffee and espresso) which was made with love and served in actual mugs. The food was served in disposable to-go containers even though we dined in, reminding you that it's more of a cafe than a restaurant, even though the chef has the skill and creativity to rival any cloth napkin establishment. Fermento impressed us in a way that is rare: incredible tasty and wholesome food (both savory dishes and desserts) that was both innovative and comforting. Long Beach is a long way away for us, but we are already looking for an excuse to return.
