I LOVE THE CHATTAHOOCHEE RIVERWALK ================================== The Chattahoocheee RiverWalk is a 22 mile long walking and biking path along the Chattahoochee River that separates Georgia and Alabama. It goes south along the river all the to Fort Benning and north just past the dam. I have stayed at the Courtyard Marriott in Phenix, Alabama twice. That hotel is on the west side of the 14th Street Pedestrian Bridge. Uptown Columbus, Georgia is on the east side of the bridge. I just love walking or biking along the RiverWalk because the view of the river, greenery, flora, fauna and historic brick buildings are so beautiful. When walking I love doing a loop south from the Courtyard Marriott past a few Zipline Towers. The next bridge to cross by foot or car is on Dillingham Street heading east over to Uptown Columbus, Georgia. If you are interested in taking the zipline across the river you would start on the Columbus side. The name of that company is Blue Heron Adventures. Not sure if I want to do that because I've seen how fast they come in for a landing. In my younger days I would definitely do that. You can also sign up to go down the rapids with Whitewater Express. Again, I am too chicken to do that after having a bad rafting accident on the South Fork of the American River twenty four years ago. I'll stick to biking. If you want to rent some fun e-bikes I highly recommend Shock Electric Rentals. I was not too chicken to do that and my son, his girlfriend, my husband and I rented them back in January after my son graduated from IBOLC (Infantry Basic Officer Leadership Course). We headed south on the Riverwalk's Columbus side and headed toward Fort Benning. That ride is absolutely beautiful. I think I would like to do that again for sure. I also like heading north of Uptown Columbus toward the dam. Again, it's absolutely beautiful up that way as well with a few bridges to walk or ride your bike over. Another name the Chattahoochee RiverWalk goes by is the Dragonfly Trails.

I absolutely fell in love with this place. It is a well taken care of stretch of wide sidewalks and paths. It is a mix of manicured landscaping and natural settings. I found several patches of wildflowers. There were also a nice mix of birds and a few butterflies. We saw a huge hawk on the corner of a building. It was screeching and caught our attention for sure. The views from the top of the pedestrian were my favorite. It was neat to watch people kayaking and enjoying the weather.

Anytime I am in Columbus, Georgia on business I come to walk alongside the water and just simply enjoy the simple pleasure of being alive. This is an enjoyable path to walk, whether day or night, and allow your soul to be comforted and embraced. If you find yourself in Columbus, you owe it to yourself to come and visit, and while you are in this area, pick a place to enjoy a meal and maybe a drink.

I love the Riverwalk. It is such a nice place to walk, enjoy the scenery, people-watch and have your mind reset. I visit with my kids and family regularly. Love the walking trail.

Beautiful sight, beautiful Riverwalk. I enjoyed a nice stroll around the Riverwalk and around the Columbus State University. I deinitely enjoyed the nature and preservance that was maintained here at Uptown. I also liked watching the people zipline and water stream strongly right by the rocks

    Nice steps to the front

I love nature and I love it even more when it involves all of my senses. This place is great, it has a beautiful walk right next to the river, has benches everywhere for you to seat and enjoy your views/sounds/smells. They have public bathrooms for the convenience of the public and you can also do water rafting and kayaking or Zip line across the river. There are also many restaurants around for you to enjoy a date night or simply to refuel after an afternoon full of adventures. I am glad this is in my town.

This is a beautiful place to go with friends or family. It is a place to enjoy the beauty of the outdoors and the company of others. You can take a walk or just sit and watch other people whitewater raft. Either one is enjoyable.

I love nature and fresh air together is perfect. 1 of my favourite spots in my hometown & another well known attraction in the Fountain City. (Est. in 1992.)It's clean & a nice change of scenery of the norm everyday life. I come here to get my walk on @ the beautiful "Chattahoochee Riverwalk".

First time here been in Columbus for 9 months now. I must say this is what makes columbus special! Other than being the landmark for the Columbus War. Enjoyed my peaceful walk. And hearing the construction going on in the one old building just gives the place a amazing feel. Would be definitely going back. If only at night it had beautiful lights along the riverwalk.

Depends on time of day. Can be unsafe for some after dark. I do not recommend for single ladies or young people to go after dark alone.

A great diversion. We didn't know it was here the last time we visited! Even on a dreary day it was just the right blend of nature and city.

Great place to go for a run or biking. If you own a pair of outdoor skates, even better! Long trails and nice scenery.

We visited the visitor center/gift shop the first day, before it closed at 5. Rangers were friendly and helpful. We got a map for our hike the next day, and bought some provisions for our stay at a Florence Marina State Park cabin up the road. The next day we hiked down the steep, rocky terrain to the signs for all the trails. We chose Canyons 4-5, which were flat, and less wet & less difficult to hike than Canyons 1-3, and other trails. The views were spectacular! We noticed the puddles of water & wondered why some were silvery and bright. When we asked the ranger in the visitor center/gift shop, she didn't know. The hike back up to the visitor center/gift shop required several stops at Boy Scout donated benches. Thank you, Boy Scouts! My asthmatic lungs needed the respites. At the visitor center, we used the boot cleaning mats and hose to wash off the red clay of Ga. On the way out of the park, we stopped at the restrooms on the right of the road. This is where we got the BEST photos! Stop, get out and walk to the fences. You will be thrilled with the view. We were. This is our now favorite park in GA.

There is loads of shade in the interior of the canyon and water does trickle through so expect to get a smidge wet and dusty from the canyon. The shop was loaded with great merch but the bathroom was out of service for us so everyone had to use the single toilet handicapped room which wasn't exactly great. The parking fee and map etc can be a little confusing so just be sure to go inside to make sure everything is on the up and up. The rim trail runs immediately around the visitor center just follow the fencing to the left to stay around the rim go to the right to go down into the canyon itself. Both are worth it. We spent more time in the canyon :)

We asked them about parking (no fee) and were returning there for lunch later anyway. We then hiked up Rt 190 about 50 yards and found the trail crossing. We opted to do the one on the left - I think it was Bentley? The one on the right was the Pine Mountain trail. The trail was a nice hike through the woods but never more than 200 yards from a main road. We followed it to a junction and turned right so as to begin the loop back. Since it had taken longer than planned already, we hiked back along Route 190 instead of another trail. In total, it was about 2.1 miles and took us from 10:45 a.m. to 12:05 p.m.! The trail was hilly with a lot of rocks so the pace was slow. I enjoyed the hike, though.

FDR State Park near Warm Springs, Georgia…read more Very nice state park with lots of nearby attractions to visit including Calloway Gardens and FDR's Little Whitehouse. The small town of Warm Springs had several little shops that were nice to walk through, even found some unique Christmas gifts. The highlight of downtown Warm Springs was the Bullock House Restaurant for their country cooking lunch buffet, a great bargain at $12.50 for the good food they serve. The park has several campsite areas, I believe were numbered as Campgrounds 1 through 5. The check-in building in a large CCC flagstone structure with a nice camp shop, but don't miss the scenic overlook out behind the building. Most rv camp sites we rode by were very wooded with good shade and seemed to be level. Each area has its own bathhouse. The one in our area was clean and offered two family restroom/shower room combinations in addition to the standard women's' and men's sides. Campsites in Campground 1 with numbers starting in the 100's are on or near a small lake. They did have some paddle boats but I didn't see any being rented so they could have been discontinued for the Winter. We did see several people fishing from the lakeshore. A Georgia license is required for fishing and the camp shop had a "Bait for Sale" sign. The CCC built Liberty Bell flagstone pool was also drained and closed for the season. A handful of the sites in Campground 1 are directly in the lake and some of those have full hookups. We were lucky to be in one of those lakefront full hookup sites. The park has several hiking trails but bikes are not allowed on them. It is a short drive to Dowdell's Knob, an overlook that FDR used to enjoy visiting and picnicing at when he was in the area. The foliage was still colorful but past its peak when we visited in mid-November. We enjoyed our stay in one of the best campsites we have had in a state park this year.
