Seafood platter (battered, fried salmon and halibut fillets)
    Ralph E.

This place is absolutely charming, and the service was as friendly as it gets. My wife ordered the salmon burger, and while it wasn't what she initially expected, it turned out to be even better! Coming from Florida, we're used to salmon burgers being ground meat formed into a patty, but here in Alaska, it was a full salmon fillet sandwich--a delightful surprise. I do wish they had mentioned the type of salmon, especially given that we're in Alaska, but my wife said the fillet was well-seasoned and very tasty. I opted for the seafood special, which featured battered and deep-fried salmon and halibut with potato fries. It was my first time trying these fish prepared this way. While the fish was good, especially with their special house sauces, I have to say that such flavorful fish deserves a more refined preparation--perhaps with a demi-glace, purée, or charred vegetables. The deep-frying of salmon and halibut, while interesting, left the fish a bit dry, and the dish felt a bit pricey for fried "fish". Nonetheless, I wanted to try it and it was worth the experience, though I'd love to see these fish presented in a way that lets their flavors truly shine. Overall, this spot is definitely worth a visit for its unique approach to seafood and the warm, welcoming atmosphere. Be sure to come with an open mind and a curiosity for the local flavors!

I was by no means "blown away" well...that's hard to do. This place was good and the price was good as well. Service is always good here. We ordered the "all halibut" fish & chips (but they accidentally sent out the regular fish & chips which includes a piece of salmon deep fried. I dislike salmon BUT! Since I accidentally bit into it, I was quite surprised how much I liked it and I finished the entire piece. HA HA HA HA HA!! Go me (& go grandma (rest in peace) who used to always make me try something before I just snubbed my nose at it)). So... back to the review .... This would not be my first choice to dine, but I was very impressed with the reindeer meatloaf and they have their own sauce which they call CBC (?) it's chipotle, barbecue and sour cream, and I thought it was super good with the reindeer meatloaf. Skip the Mac & cheese but I recommend the sweet potato fries.

We dropped in here just for a quick warm up while we waited on another reservation and were met with excellent service and a delicious cup of seafood chowder! After we ordered and waited about 10 minutes, the manager came out and explained that the soup wasn't up to par so they were making a fresh batch just for us, then brought us an extra cup for the wait. Good quality food and excellent service!

This place was so cute! Service was very nice and kept checking on us to make sure everything was okay/food was good etc. the food was very good! My husband had the Chattermark burger w/fries and he said it was very delicious! In this picture I had the spicy breaded salmon and house made Mac n cheese. It was VERY good. Highly recommend!

After an afternoon on Mt. Marathon, it was surprisingly hard to find a nice sit-down restaurant open in Seward on a Wednesday evening. Chattermark was one of the few open in downtown, with a couple other parties seated inside and at the bar. Very cool entryway and interior wood theme. When we entered, we were told by the one server to grab a couple menus by the door, and seat ourselves anywhere. She was quick in coming to take our order, but we didn't see her much after that - no waters were refilled and I was never asked if I wanted another beer (and I totally would have after our hike). They also really need to get a taplist, as the server recited beers from memory, and when I asked about the brewer (want to try local in AK!), she said something that I just didn't catch. It's a small quality of life change that would help both the server and customer. I ended up with a wheat draft beer that was actually pretty nice. It rang up as "Raspberry Wheat," but was not fruity at all - no idea what I drank. Reindeer Sausage Soup ($12) - It was okay. The description sounded like it would be chunky, with Reindeer Sausage, potatoes, mushrooms, and spinach, but it was more of a blended broth with chunks of only sausage. Creamy and unique, but just not a standout, and steep at $12. Signature Fish & Chips ($29) - Very delicious, some of the best fried fish we had in Alaska. You get one piece of halibut and one piece of salmon on a heaping pile of battered fries, lemon wedge, tartar sauce, and pesto sauce. The pesto was tangy, herby, and garlicky goodness. Tartar had a great dill kick. However, it's absolute highway robbery to serve two pieces of fish for $29. I'd say dial back the fries and serve at least one more piece of salmon. The prices seem higher than normal here, aside from the $7 draft beers. I'd understand if it was a bit more upscale, but as it is, I just can't see myself coming back here when there are more reasonable options in town.

Food quite good, tasted fresh, place was packed/staff quite busy so not quite the attention hoped for, a small California-style kitchen so you see the scurrying cooks meant people waited 20+ minutes to be served. Some food from a bag but the Blueberry Salad and vinaigrette dressing were stellar.

Summary: great seafood chowder, unique reindeer stew, average burgers, slow service, otherwise underwhelming place. Visit: 7/6/22 2:30 pm Pros: - Seafood chowder was some of the best in Seward. Generous servings of celery, potatoes, and seafood including salmon. On the watery side like milk, which I personally like more than the thick and gloopy consistency of most chowders in this area. - Great apple and walnut salad. - Great chocolate brownie dessert. Cons: - Scallop mac and cheese was served lukewarm and not very tasty nor creamy, though they were generous with chunks of scallop. - Burger was average (which is interesting for a place that seems to focus on burgers). - Service was slow for an establishment about 2/3 full. Good or Bad: - Reindeer stew is unique (pictured). Quite gamey with a sweet apple-like flavor. Not for everyone. Overall: - Food 3.5/5 some good dishes like seafood chowder, but others like burgers are underwhelming. - Service 3/5 an average place on the slow side. - Value 3.5/5 one of the more reasonably priced places in Seward, but it still is Seward prices.

Halibut burger with sweet potato fries

As another recent reviewer mentioned, neither wait staff nor kitchen staff were wearing masks. Somehow I didn't notice this until after I finished eating (blinded by hunger I suppose). In retrospect I should have just gone elsewhere. Thankfully the restaurant was clean and there were no customers when I arrived so social distancing wasn't a concern. That aside, my meal was satisfactory but overpriced. They have Alaskan beer flights (4 samples for $12) which isn't bad but their draft selection is rather limited. Most (if not all) of them came from 2-3 smaller Alaskan breweries - not necessarily a bad thing, just limited variety. That said, I did enjoy all the beers I sampled, although I don't recall the names because they didn't have a list of their draft beers nor were the names written on the flight. I got the halibut burger ($24) and sweet potato fries instead of potato chips (extra $2). I found it odd and a bit tacky that they serve their food in some kind of aluminum pie dishes instead of, well, actual plates. The halibut filet was good but not thick enough to warrant the price. There was some kind of "southwestern pesto" sauce on it (jalapeño, cilantro, and garlic) but I could hardly taste it. Probably because the halibut filet was heavy on the salt and pepper. I did like the sweet potato fries a lot since they were crispy but not overcooked. Service was great other than the restaurant seeming to ignore the existence of coronavirus. However, I'm not sure I'd return here. Definitely not as long as COVID-19 is a concern due to the lack of appropriate hygiene practices.

Our family just arrived in Seward for a couple of days. We thoroughly enjoyed our meal at Chattermark. The ambiance is casual and welcoming. The service was very prompt and everyone was so friendly. The fish and chips were delicious. We opted for the halibut and it was so fresh and perfectly prepared. We highly recommend!!

Quiet restaurant and helpful staff. The food was good. We had salad and crab legs. It was expensive for what we ordered.

Today I remembered to do all the things including take pictures of my food. I walked in and was seated immediately, I chose to sit at the bar because it's just easier and the chairs all have better cushion. After seeing another patron eating a burger i decided to order one too! Great choice. I had the jalapeño burger with bacon jam and man was it delicious. The burger was a perfect medium well, the brioche bun was perfectly toasted, the white cheddar cheese was the perfect complement to the slightly sweet bacon jam, the bacon was crispy, Smokey and not greasy. The only complaint was the slice of tomato that is out of season and tasteless. I mean it is Alaska after all. My seafood chowder which I paid an additional $4.00 for a cup was okay but whatever, the burger made up for it. All in all it was a great experience and delicious meal. Because it was the middle of the afternoon on a weekday, the place wasn't as packed and noisy as it can be sometimes. The ambiance was super relaxed today so I sat and ate inside. If you are ever in Seward, check this place out.
