My husband and I stopped here for lunch while visiting in Seward, we go down a few times a year. We usually eat at the Apollo or The Breeze Inn but wanted to try something different. My husband had the fried halibut and sweet potato fries. The fries were pretty good but the halibut was way over cooked. I had the crab bisque and grilled cheese. The soup was grainy. I know it's supposed to be chunky, but I don't think grainy should ever be a word you use when describing soup. The grilled cheese was ok at best. Not a lot of cheese and the bread was weird. The decor at first glance is nice but looking around the paint job is half done and sloppy. And although the staff was friendly the didn't seem motivated. If seafood is what you're looking for, especially halibut, I'd head up to Thorns (Showcase). May not look as fancy, but the food is way better. read more

My wife, friend, and myself had just arrived in Seward and walked around town a bit when we found this place. Looked nice enough so we decided to give it a try. We sat ourselves per the sign and the waitress came over within a few minutes. She seemed friendly enough and informative at first but that was it. I order the fish and chips (2 halibut and 1 salmon) and was tasty enough, however, not being checked on by our waitress at all after she brought our food left us a little worried but being in the service industry myself I just took it as them being busy with little staff. But looking around it seemed that people ordering alcohol seemed to be the priority. Although we ordered about $50 worth of food but no alcohol, we waited at our table for about 15-20 min after eating for our check. My wife, 1 yr old baby, and friend waited outside while I decided to go to the register to pay. From the time of dropping off our food to me having to stand by the register for a final 10 minutes to pay for food it was literally a little more than an hour without any word or check up from staff. While waiting for the check the bartender and our waitress walked in and out of the bar area within a couple of feet of me(just standing in front of the register) 3-4 times each and basically tried to pretend I wasn't there. BTW, there were no customers at the bar and about half of the tables were empty so it wasn't like I couldn't be seen in the mix. I was the only person standing in the whole restaurant. Finally, our waitress sort of rudely asked "what do you need?", like I was waiting for a take out order or something. I guess she forgot that she was the one that helped us over an hour ago. I just said "I need to pay" and she gave a sarcastic "sorry". When I signed my credit card receipt she just threw it in the register as fast as she could and walked away with no "thank you" or anything. By far the worst customer service I've ever experienced for a sit-down meal. Hopefully, the owner or manager will give some more attention to customer service training. I was really shocked at the other review that praised the customer service. And it wasn't just our waitress. The bar manager seemed to be going around taking food orders, drink orders, and generally checking up on customers. But it seemed to be just the folks ordering alcohol. read more

Good food with average and above portion sizes. Clean and minimalist decor. Saturday lunch before tourist season hits. 3 tables occupied and 1 person at center staged bar. The other reviews about the look were on. Lots of natural wood and neutral tones. Makes it feel very open and almost unfinished. That said, it was clean and open with lots of light. The bartender/ server was prompt and very friendly throughout the meal. Smaller menu with a mix of salads, burgers and fish offerings. Wife had a small Greek salad and a "side" of fries. Side is a bit of a misnomer as it came out in a huge bowl that the 3 of us barely dented! Salad was right sized and had plenty of feta cheese throughout, which the mrs liked. Daughter and I had a bacon burger and steak/green chili burger respectively and both were excellent. Try the crab bisque! It was very quite good, a touch of pepper kicked it up. Also sized large. Cup size was the same as most places bowls. Hope it keeps going because we will come back next time we are in town. read more

They *just* renovated and I love the new feel. They offer half-portions which was great for us, and I can't say enough about the mashed potatoes- half-sweet potato, hash-Yukon! The fish was fresh, the vegetables beautifully done. My aunt had the beer flight too, great with an elegant but affordable meal. read more

The waiter was super friendly and funny, that is the only good thing I can say about this restaurant. The seafood chowder had almost no seafood and what it had was over cooked, the broth was so thick I could almost stand a spoon up and it tasted like flour. The fried halibut was overdone. Dear me. My friends, Yelpers have let you down on this one. Waltzing into Chattermark after a long and nauseating day eat sea, I was really counting on decent portions and fresh food served in a crisp, fresh dining room. While I found an airy ambiance at Chattermark, the food missed the mark for me. Needing something light yet warm to fill the void that my charter fishing tour left in my belly, I settled for the crab bisque and Maple Apple Salad. The salad was fresh yet overly simple. A small bowl filled with iceberg lettuce, blue cheese crumbles, four slices of apple and a maple vinaigrette. I was surprised by how please I was by the maple vinaigrette but the lack of complexity to this over priced salad left me quite disappointed. Moving on to my crab bisque, I started with the one piece of toast which I was expecting to be crunchy and dense enough to handle the job of accompanying a bisque. What I got was a limp noodle... I sort of heard the womp womp clown noise in my head as I saved this piece of toast from drowning in the thick bisque. The crab meat was shredded and the taste dominated by the creaminess of the bisque. It did not stand out and felt a bit tired. Perhaps it was leftovers from lunch..... My fishing buddies opted for a traditional burger with sweet potato fries and Red Ale while the other ordered a beer battered salmon. The burger just was. Not great but not bad. However, how much can you truly mess up a good 'ol burger? It just sat on it's crisp white plate, existing but never truly coming alive for the eater. I tried to taste the salmon for you, but my day at sea prohibited me from going near it. As I glanced at our table with our overpriced food, I couldn't help but yearn for me. Perhaps Chattermark works really, really hard at achieving clean, simple decor and food but there was such a lack of complexity within the food and presentation that it seems there is a lack of finesse. Overpriced for the quality of food even for Seward. I would recommend saving the trip here and visiting other establishments unless you crave simple, boring food served in an equally simple and boring fashion. read more

Stopped at this place for a light lunch. We were a little worried at first because we were only ones in restaurant at that time, but we were pleasantly surprised. We ordered chicken wings which were fried and dipped in their own maple chipotle sauce. They were great. I also ordered a Greek salad which was definitely lacking a little. Another nice place to eat in Seward. My wife and I had lunch around 2PM. It was not crowded and though there was a delay getting seated things improved. I think the staffing is very light on weekdays between typical mealtimes. Anyway I had a fine hamburger and my wife had a really good salad. Service was good and friendly. The place seems new. I'm surprised this place doesn't have better reviews because I had one of the best meals I have ever had here! We stopped in on a whim after walking by the store front and I'm so glad we did. I ordered the maple apple salad and crab bisque. Both were crazy delicious. The salad had so many flavors and the homemade vinaigrette was amazing. The crab bisque was creamy and had many chunks of crab. We also ordered the crab balls as an appetizer - also very good. They have great cheap flights too (4 tastings for $5.25) so you can try different Alaskan beers. Highly recommend Chattermark for both couples and families! Everything here is great. My husband and I both got burgers which are all cooked medium-rare to medium (so if that bothers you just ask for them cooked more) which were really great! They all come with a special mixture of sauces that can sound kind of gross but are actually really great! The fries are good as well. My husband got wings and he loved them. They tasted baked and had a sweet/spicy sauce on them that was different and delicious. The atmosphere is a little fancier, yet we were in athletic clothes and felt fairly comfortable. Went there solely because reviews were good. Waiter was wonderful and friendly to our kids too. When I saw the chef, though, I got scared - he looked way too young to be cooking!! And then he cooked. And it was awesome food, made to order with a very unexpected but much welcome old-fashioned flair. I also loved that the chef stopped by every table and personally made sure everyone was happy with their meal. Overall, great experience and tasty food! You must try their Caribou Cabernet stew - delicious. Great burgers. Yummy old-school milk shakes. Highly recommend for casual hearty dining. read more

We had walked by yesterday but didn't need to eat then so we made plans to come have lunch today. So glad we did come by. I had the clam chowder and the SST sandwich (smoked Salmon tomato) Both were very very good. The chowder wasn't the creamy type-it was a rich full chowder (which was more of a seafood chowder) with the toasted salmon sandwich it was almost too much food; but I couldn't stop eating! My husband had the chowder also, but the BLT added to the chowder. He was happy with his, I think he was disappointed he wasn't adventurous enough to step up to the smoked salmon. Ha. He did have the oatmeal port, dark beer is his fav; and he loved it. They were out of their reindeer sausage jambalaya- which I would have gotten. I think that sounds delish. Maybe tomorrow?? With the food and service we got--I'm thinking the poor reviews were distracting plants. Not all reviews are real. Hotel we stayed at offered us dinner vouchers for the Chattermark so we thought we'd give it a try. I had a burger cause I'm not a seafood person. Which was the best burger I've had in Alaska period. My daughter had the salmon "burger"; salmon fillet on a bun with pesto sauce. Tried the pesto sauce with my fries and it was delicious. Fries were amazing; not sure if they're fresh cut but sure tasted like it. Staff was friendly especially our waitress can't remember her name but she was from Columbia; personable and friendly without being over the top. We got there just before they closed and the didn't rush us out. In fact our bill was less than our vouchers so waitress recommended we get coffee and dessert so we covered our vouchers. We'd come back for sure. Overall great experience. Can't wait to try other options. read more

I agree with the other reviewers.... this place is significantly overrated and severely overpriced. Halibut sandwich was cooked well (which is the only thing that saves this place from 1 star), but lacked proper seasoning. Salmon was very, very overcooked. Salad was fresh, but comprised almost entirely of iceberg lettuce. Greek salad dressing was pure oil with herbs. The biggest disappointment was the burger... it is obviously from frozen patty. The burger is perfectly flat, and, suffered from a still frozen center that prevented full cooking. We left hoping we pick better for dinner (we did - seward brewing company, which is much better). read more

So my wife took me and my boys to eat there on a Sunday evening in august and me and my wife ordered the new York steak and they told me they were sold out. Not a big deal but if I made most of my money in the summer I would not run out of food. What we did order was good not great for the price. I have to admit I was pleasantly surprised by this place this year. The food has been great! I have had the "Ring of Fire" and the "Glacier Blue" burgers both full of flavor and juicy!. The Greek Salad and the Steak salad are also awesome. Wings are pretty tasty as well. They recently started a $10 Tuesday, you get the Thin Ice burger and beer ( I add cheese and Bacon for $3) So for $13 I get a awesome burger with fries and a pint of beer. How can you beat that!!!! They also offer 1/2 price appetizers from 4 to 6 pm daily! Wait staff is friendly, helpful and welcoming. Food comes quick and comes hot! Good Mix of music as well! Nice relaxing atmosphere! I went here after eating out at several other local places around Seward, so I decided to try this place out. I ordered the signature dish, the Chattermark Burger. The burger was okay, but the service was one of the most rude people I have dealt with, considering I was taking out 4 people, we all ordered the same dish. So we gave them good service when it was slow. The waiter was letting our food sit on the serving counter for 5 minutes because he was eating... I had to politely let him know that MY food was ready, and then he took his time after smirking at me fish then making me reach over to take the dishes that he should have been putting down on the table. I still said thank you but honestly there was nothing to be thankful for. Normally I don't give places a review but I was very unhappy on how my friends and I were treated. So I felt I needed to let others know, money does not come as easily these days and you don't deserve to have it wasted on ghastly poor service. I would say the food was okay but with such an awful after taste of service. I give this Food a 3 star rating.
