They attempted to install a salvaged motor with no luck so just cleaned the vents which were clogged and causing rain water to leak inside. although the moonroof still doesn't work the clog has been cleared. My major gripe is they left grease and dirt marks all over the headliner and ripped the center console cover, expected better care to be taken, will likely look for another shop for any future repairs needed. read more

Not sure why, but recently all the auto repair shops are extremely busy. Many shops don't even bother to answer phone calls or emails. I was looking for a shop at least to take a look at my car, but after trying hard for 3 weeks, I didn't find anyone. One of my friends recommended Chau's to me. I called explained the situation. First, Dennis hesitated as it might not be worth repairing. I begged him to at least take a look at the photos. He agreed. After sending him photos by email, he responded within an hour that he thought it would be worth repairing but he would have to find out whether the parts were available. He asked me to give him some time to find out. Two days later, he contacted me that he had found all the necessary parts and that he gave me an estimate of repair price. The repair price was so close to the insurance company's quote, which most repair shops had told me that it was impossible. Since my friend recommended Chau's, I decided to let Chau's do it. Dennis kept me informed the status of the repair, and the repair was done within the time he had promised. When I went to pick up the car, I was surprised and delighted to find it like brand new condition. The body work was pretty, and all the mechanic issues were fixed. Hung Chau is the owner, he fixed my Lexus RX450h himself. Fair price and excellent service. I have my insurance deductible is $2500 so I brought my car to 10 different auto body shops for quotes. The quotes range from $3000-$4500 to REPLACE the whole door ( ridiculous for this small dent), I almost pay $2500 deductible and claim insurance for the difference, the process will take 2 weeks to 1 month to get my car fixed. Someone backed into my car so I came to Chau to fix my headlight, replace my brake pads and the huge scratch on my front bumper. He did wonderful works at prices way below the average estimate in the area. He also ensured I get my car back in time. While the business hours are between 8:30am to 5:30pm, I notice a few times he came in at 7am and left after 6:30pm. Of course the gate is usually locked during off business hours. I had a fantastic experience at Chau's auto. I brought in my car to get some deep scratches and dents fixed, Chau was honest and told me that I didn't need to replace the affected parts at all, and that he would be able to make those areas look like nothing was there. I went to another auto repair shop down the road and was told that I needed to replace the parts, which would cost double what Chau had quoted me. He delivered on what he promised in the time frame he has outlined and was extremely flexible with scheduling. I had such a pleasant experience having my car fixed at Mr.Chau's shop. My car was towed to Budd & Company Inc first. They quoted me almost $800 for a new alternator, new battery and labor work. I called O'Rileys to check the price of the parts. It only costs $300 for new battery and alternator so Budd wanted to charge me $500 for labor work or what!!!!? And I know that it shouldn't take a mechanic more than one hour to change these parts. Luckily, I found Mr.Chau's shop. He quoted me $550, including tax. Gave me 1 year warranty as well. Outstanding mechanic, on the two old Japanese pickups I've brought in to him (a 1977 Toyota and a 1992 Mazda), and on the Mazda sedan a friend brought in. He completely rebuilt one engine for me, after I warped the head due to a sudden radiator leak. He'll tell you if something needs repair or doesn't. I trust his judgment. He's not a Shakespearean scholar, so if you're looking for perfect English you can pay a lot more elsewhere. (I'm tempted to say he's lousy, just so he doesn't get overbooked, so I can keep him for myself, but that wouldn't be fair to him. ;-) ) read more

Needed a new alternator in my 2003 Maxima. I normally do all repairs myself to save money but in this case, I did not have the time. I purchased a new alternator online from 1aauto.com and took it to Chau to have him install it for me. It ended up putting out only 9.1V after install! Chau warned me to not use a cheap alternator, but I figured what could go wrong? Normal voltage when tested should be 13-14V. At no extra charge did Chau install a different alternator (better quality of course) and even threw in a different battery (not brand new but newer than mine)! All of this was done in 2 days! Not used to paying a mechanic to fix my car so I couldn't tell you how the price compares to others, but the service, friendliness, reliability and honesty was all there! read more

Had a valve gasket that I needed repaired on my 2002 VW Jetta. Called all the 20 best rated places on Yelp to compare the quote the place that changed my oil to what everyone else was charging. Chau quoted me the lowest, and was the friendliest. I was able to get my car in within days, and he was gracious, and quick, and even ended up changing my spark plugs too since they had been damaged. Best of all, the charge all said and done was still cheaper than everyone else I'd called, and that was without the spark plugs too. The car is working great, and I truly enjoyed my experience. I've had an issue with my car and wanted to take it to this place. I called this place at 3pm and spoke with a gentleman, I asked him what time they would be closing that day and he told me "6:30pm". So I told him I would bring my car in roughly around 5:30, and he told me "Ok". I showed up at 5:45 and saw it fenced up and lights off. I had a pretty busted up car - both quarter panels, a passenger door, and my rear bumper were in really bad condition. To put it into perspective, I had quotes ranging from several thousands worth as much as my car. I was in a tough spot so I asked my buddies if they knew any good places, and one of them recommended Chau's spot. I arrived at Chau on Saturday to assess the damage - he told me immediately that he could fix the car without replacing the quarter panel! I was so excited, I told him I'll be back during Spring break when I wouldn't need the car as much. That's when Chau went above and beyond to offer me his personal car as a loaner for no additional charge. I accepted and came back the following Monday to drop the car off and was told my car would be ready by Thursday of the same week. Sure enough, I got a call on Wednesday that my car would be ready the next day by 11 AM. Once I arrived, lo and behold, my car looked brand new. To be honest, for the price, I was initially skeptical, but once I saw the car, all doubts were completely erased. I was so excited I couldn't thank Chau enough! TL;DR: if you're looking for fast, superb service and excellent customer service for the best price, look no further. I'll be recommending Chau's as long as it stands! P.S. Started up my car one morning, kept dying on me so I figure it was time to bring it into the shop. Another shop tried to sell me a new starter, took it for a second opinion at Chau's. I'd been to his Chinatown location before and had a great experience there so I decided to try the new Rainier Beach location. He was very honest and told me that it was only my battery that needed replacing. I was taken care of and back on the road with a new battery in less than half an hour. Their head mechanic Hung is a nice, very honest guy and I never worry that I am being ripped off. He's always been honest about what needs to be done, i've found Chau's to very reasonable compared to the work i've had done at th Honda dealership (20% less atleast!) This is the worst experience I have had with a car repair. Their prices are cheap but you get what you pay for. I am going to end up paying about the same amount if not more to fix the crappy work they did on my car. I would have been better off paying for a good mechanic to repair my car versus having them do it and then going back to a better mechanic to fix things that they missed. If you live in Seattle - make him your new mechanic!! Mr Chau will provide service far & above what you'd expect! He cares! We live 2.5 hrs. away from Seattle & our 18 yr old car died, downtown, on I-5. Our roadside assistance had it towed to Mr Chau's. He did all the clutch work needed and a full tune, that I requested. He bent over backwards to accommodate our working schedules so we could pick up the car, after the repairs. Unfortunately, the car died again, on I-5, on the way home. He sent his son & mechanic out to get the car and took it back to the shop. With 370,000 miles on our Subaru, it was probably time for the alternator to die! Once that was replaced, he had is mechanic and wife bring the car to us in Anacortes!! Amazing!!. And, he was not going to charge me for the alternator, labor or bringing me the car. No other mechanic would do that! I sent him a check for the alternator and a gift cert to take is wife out to dinner on us. read more

Trust me. You have to put your car into this shop. My 2012 VW Passat was hit by somebody else and it was estimated at five other shops for 2000+ dollars. Even though the insurance company paid me the rest after the 1000 deductible, I still don't have enough money to go to other shops. Last week, there was a Mexican people stopped in front of me and ask if I need to fix the car and said he can do a side work for me for only five hundred dollars. I paid him but he almost Screwed up my car. Finally I decide to take the car to a shop and fix it. Chau is the one I finally choose. First, I couldn't believe he can fix it with a much lower price, but he did surprised me with what he did.
