Oh ana. Ana, ana fo-fana. I adore thee. Been wanting to do some major life changing things to my hair so I opted to go from my cousin it virgin dark brown hair to a bob with some color. I was skeptical about even considering doing a dye job, bc let's face it..Asians with light, light brownish-blonde tips most of the time scream out Asian hot import car model hair to me..a look I'm all together avoiding like a plague. Anna having an appreciation for long hair (because she has some lovely long locks too) looked at mine, and suggested maybe we can just put a little color in my hair, with a technique that makes the tip of your hair lighter and fade up into your natural hair color (A sort of sun-kissed beachy look) as a start, and then still see if I still wanted to go shorter there after. After about an hour of processing, a very slight layered trim, a good blow dry, I was a transformed beach bunny hair goddess sans wrinkled up pruney skin. She was right, after that I stuck with just the color and decided to stick with my long hair once again (and so glad I did)....I've gotten endless amounts of compliments in addition to jealousy remarks about how my hair is just perfect. I seriously can't recommend Anna enough. I mean have you ever ran into a hair stylist that really knew what was best for your hair and wasn't a scissor crazy manic? Hair stylists live for that shit. Snip, snip, snip! Anna knows beautiful hair, and what suits each and every client. You must GO if you want to be a transformative beauty in your own right. Chaz Dean is a brilliant stylist and colorist! I was lucky enough to experience both when I was in L.A. for a week. I was "introduced" to Chaz one day several years ago when I saw him on QVC talking about his Cleansing Conditioners. Unlike most people who you see selling "their" products, Chaz had actually created the shampoo/cleansing conditioner. He experimented for years adding rosemary from his garden, tea tree oil and other non-lathering ingredients that would clean your hair without stripping the color. I'd spent so much on color only to have it fade with the first shampoo. His studio is so much different from traditional salons. It has a very Zen-like atmosphere and, if you're an animal person like I am, you may also get to meet his mascots, three beautiful Labs. (Chaz's dogs get the whole WEN experience once a week!) Chaz gave me an amazing cut that was so easy to take care of and my color was one of the prettiest reds I've ever seen. If I lived anywhere in the L.A. area, Chaz Dean's Studio would be my home away from home. Chaz styles many of Hollywood's celebrities but he's very warm and down to earth. I'm sure that some salons in L.A. could make you feel out of place but that would never happen here. Chaz makes anyone feel like a celebrity. You don't feel rushed and you'll never feel like you're just another head in the crowd. I was addicted to WEN before I set foot in his studio but I learned so much more about which products would work best for my hair and how to get great results from a blow dryer and styling brush instead of frying my hair with a flat iron or curling iron. I never felt like anyone was trying to sell me products either. If you're interested, they'll help you and I strongly recommend trying the WEN line even if you can't get to L.A. to have Chaz cut and color your hair. I have a gallon of the WEN Lavender Cleansing Conditioner sitting in my tub right now and I'll use every drop! I usually order my products directly from his studio but you can also find some great deals if you check out QVC. I've signed up for emails so that I'll know when he'll be on QVC with his hour long shows. I always DVR them so I can pick up some new tricks. If you've been to any of the Beverly Hills salons, you'll also be happily surprised to see that Chaz is less expensive. Even if you can't afford to see him on a regular basis, treat yourself to a visit. I promise you won't be disappointed! After months of lusting after Anna Lee's instagram pictures of her clients I finally bit the bullet and made an appointment for a haircut. I haven't had the best luck with some of the hair stylists I've tried so I have been so afraid of doing more than a trim. However, my hair was just getting too long with no real shape. ANNA WAS AMAZING. Her consultation was in depth and real. She gave me her opinions and as skeptical as I was to trust anyone with my hair, I let her work her magic. I came out of the salon totally feeling like a "babe" and I don't regret splurging on this at all. Yes, it is quite pricey and it was difficult to spend that much money on a haircut but I honestly feel that it was definitely worth it. Anna, if you are reading this.. THANK YOU SO MUCH! The salon itself was beautiful. It felt like a little getaway from the busy city. Chaz's dogs were roaming the salon but they were so sweet I couldn't help but want to play with them. LONG overdue review, but better late than never. Plus I'll be seeing her within the new year! One word: Anna Lee (so I lied 2 words) Anna Lee is a hair wizard. She can literally turn burnt hair into voluminous, VS quality, shiny, and swift hair. I found her through following IMJENNIM on Instagram and Youtube. Then I so happened to follow Anna and her husband's youtube vlogs, which led me to stalk Anna Lee's instagram and I knew I wanted to see her. After year of waiting for a open booking, finally got one and I immediately knew I was in good hands. She is really attentive (and I mean it), and she really understands how hair moves & what hair color matches each persons' skin tone. She takes her TIME and truly values the each client's opinion. She really wants to make sure that her clients leave happy. Take it from me - I've been everywhere for my hair because I'm willing to drop $$$$ for my hair (which might bite me in the butt when I have to pay back my graduate school student loans...) Been to Ramirez & Tran Salon in West Hollywood and Meche Salon in LA and I've never felt taken care of...but Anna literally will spend 4-5 hours on each of her clients to make sure their hair turns out fabulous. Her assistant is also wonderful! They are like a tag team and maneuver around the tight space from client to client. I wish Anna had more availability because it's hard to be flexible with her tight schedule, but she's amazing and I'm so lucky that I can call her my hair colorist! ***5 stars for Anna BUT 3 stars for the parking... Omg it's a nightmare. I would suggest street parking or something because it's really limited and tight in the lot in front of the salon. Most GORGEOUS hair salon ever. Walking in here feels like you're at a spa in Thailand or something. Everything is so clean and well kept and everyone makes sure you're comfortable at all times. The stylists here are all so incredibly talented. Anna Lee is the BEST and the sweetest lady ever. She GETS Asian hair, but she does just as well on other hair types. I put full trust in her and let her do whatever she wants with my hair. I always end up loving it. She's super helpful if you have any questions and is always willing to explain or walk through the complicated processes. She genuinely cares about her clients and their hair and will text you/follow you on Instagram...I love her! And I love the Wen products--they're so unique and work wonders. My hair used to get greasy after one day of not washing, but now I can go much longer, which is so much better for my hair. The process at this salon is equally unique. They custom make the color, they've developed products and processes that you don't see at any other studio...truly a different experience Chaz does an amazing job with this studio and his staff. Great products (very expensive...especially if you take in acount you have to use a MINIMUM of 8x the amount of normal products....so imagine...Aveda prices....using 8x...ouch!).... Have been using them for years but don't go the salon...Why? They open at NOON! Really???? And close at 7:00pm! Laid back is one thing...lazy is another...I've discussed this with friends, most of them that live in LA have never even been to salon or even popped in for their products but rather order online and willingly pay shipping because they cant make their lazy schedule. I moved to LA from NYC ~4 months ago and tried another place before coming here (after reading Yelp reviews) and am 100% satisfied with the place (have been there 3 times now). I should caution you that I am a guy so my experience is obviously very different than what a woman would go through but I should note that my girlfriend goes here as well and is very happy too. Positives: - Shiri. Totally awesome. Cuts my hair better than anyone has done in NY or LA. She's super friendly and has helped my gf and I feel welcome in this city by even recommending some great restaurants for us to check out! Clearly, there are other Yelp people out there that like her too. - Gorgeous facilities. The remodel was featured on a popular cable tv show but that did not do it justice. I don't usually care about this stuff but the place is really well laid out and super "home-y." Very beautiful. - Clean. - Not judgmental. Kind of a snob when it comes to getting my hair cut, I have tried out a lot of different places in NY and LA and have definitely experienced places that think too highly of themselves. Everyone here is friendly and helpful. (I guess this is surprising compared to other LA places--from what I have heard). Negatives: - None really. Wonderful, relaxing experience. Shiri is awesome! I've been traveling around a bit, and haven't had a good cut since I was last back in NYC. I feel like I've been a total mess since. The attempted layers and bobs that previous stylists give me just didn't work, and made my thick hair look even bigger and bolder than I wanted it to. I like trendy and edgy, but it was turning into something else - I resorted to tying my hair back for the last 3 months. So I finally decided it was time to give Chaz Dean's salon a try. I made an appointment with Shiri a week before I got to LA based on the rave reviews on yelp, and she didn't disappoint. Shiri suggested a bob, but a shorter cleaner look with side swept bangs, and I went with it despite my bad history with them. After my relaxing shampoo, head massage, and look at the tea menu, I was totally relaxed and ready for it. Talk was light since I'm normally a quiet person with new people, but Shiri was really nice and I just let her do her thing and relaxed the entire time. I am really happy with the end result. My hair feels light, and she did a great job with the style of the cut. It was so good that I didn't have to have my hair flattened. Every stylist I've ever been to has used a flat iron on me, but not this time. And days later, my hair is still behaving and looking good. I guess that's a testament to her scissor skills. I felt great walking out of the salon and I still feel great today. The property is also really beautiful. Although if I worked there, I'd probably be laughing at people like me who are wandering around trying to figure out which bungalow to go into. Everybody there was really nice though, and if they were laughing, I didn't see it. I was trying to keep my cool, but I bet I looked like an idiot. In 2010, I had a major stroke and emergency brain surgery. The left side of my head was completely shaved with 50 staples placed on my scalp. I was so pissed because I had just gotten the best haircut of my life from Shiri one month earlier! Skip to almost one year later. My hair had somewhat grown out on the left side and was super long on the right side. Basically, it was a very bad asymmetrical hairdo. Shiri was the only person I wanted to cut my hair. And the style she created out of my brain-surgery-shaved-chop-shop-do rocked. The whole staff at Chaz Dean Studio were so wonderful too. I've been using my new Chaz Dean products for about a month, and I have to say I am impressed. Pomegranate Cleansing Conditioner: It is a two in one, and no it is nothing like Pert Plus. For starters it doesn't have any harsh chemicals, or damaging detergents. Apparently detergents can strip one's hair of color, dry it out and cause it be frizzy. Even though it is a two in one, my hair feels clean and hydrated after using it. Cucumber Aloe Replenishing Mist: This is a spray that can be used on face, body and HAIR! I was pretty excited when I read that on the label. I think that says a lot about the ingredients of a product when you can use it on your hair and FACE. It feels super refreshing and I'm kind of addicted. Sweet Almond Mint Styling Crème: Smells delish. I pump a little into my hand and apply it to my wet hair then blow dry. I was driving down fountain ave one day and saw a billboard for Chaz Dean. Although I'd seen commercials, I had no idea it was so close by. I will begin by saying I don't normally buy into stuff like this, but primarily, my review isn't for Chaz Dean but for Jenette who cut my hair. Let me start off by saying the salon is absolutely adorable. If I could become a salon designer, I would dream up something very similar. It's a group of remodeled bungalows centered around a tranquil outdoor courtyard. They are each beautiful and feel very warm and inviting. My experience there was really 5 star. From the moment I entered and went to the wrong bungalow, people guided my in the right direction without making me feel awkward at all. They were all very professional and caring. A while back I had a very bad hair experience, and since, I have had the worst split ends. I have seriously gotten it cut 5x at different places, not cheap places either, and NO ONE has been able to rectify the situation. Enter Jenette - somehow she got my hair back to health. What a lovely down-to-earth person with a positive spirit. I really like her and she is very talented. No more split ends. It's amazing what someone can do when they understand the goal. I kept telling people cut what you have to but get it healthy, no one could do it. Finally, someone got it right. Not only was it right, it looked healthier than it has in years and she managed to do it without losing a ton of length and cut out layers to remove the heaviness. This place is a little mid-city haven. Chaz has done an excellent job of creating a tranquil, high-end experience from start to finish. After using Wen for over a decade I finally decided to go "all in" and book hair services (cut + color). Let me say it's a pretty penny, even for a staff stylist looking to build his book. But here's the thing I'd been paying way under market in the valley and the experience of sitting around for hours upon hours every six- eight weeks was irritating. At CD I feel transported and relaxed (despite the fact that the keep it at Arctic temperatures), they offer me tea, give me a cozy blanket, sometime Chaz's sweet pups are there to snuggle. Rigo is the man! He has been cutting my hair for the three years now and am always satisfied with the quality of his work and attention to detail. Highly recommended for men's cuts and would vouch for women as well as he has cut and styled my wife's hair multiple times. This review will be brief because it all boils down to one thing, (or should I say, 1 person): Shiri G. When you book an appointment with the salon, your experience is likely to be pleasant, soothing, and quiet. The grounds are beautiful and there's a calming and lovely atmosphere to the bungalow environs Chaz has created. Likewise, those who follow his hair philosophy tend to be die-hard acolytes of his hair care products. But this review is predicated on one thing and one alone, and that's Shiri Gornicki, Chaz's lead colorist. Shiri is a phenom with color, and she's no slouch with cut either. It's my fourth round of color with her and my once incredibly damaged hair is looking better with every visit. Also, when I went to see her in late January for a trim and root refresher she proceeded to cut a good three inches off my dead ends. I had hoped for a mere half inch, but Shiri insisted that a true cut what what my hair really needed. She was right and I was wrong, (naturally). It was the best decision because three months later my hair has grown out at twice it's normal speed and with a great deal more thickness. I went in last week asking for lightening and blondish highlights on my chestnut, brown hair. Shiri took one look and told me not to spend my valuable time and money stripping and ripping my hair. Instead, she spent three hours delicately highlighting and threading the most subtle, beautiful, caramel highlights while still darkening my roots, covering my grey, and glossing my hair. It was literally, the softest, most lovely lift and my hair is the happier for it. Truth to be told, I'm a makeup artist and I know better than to ask for someone to bleach my hair. But being in the beauty business, I tend to get excited and sidetracked by fads and trends. Anyone else would've happily taken my money and hombre'd or bleached or balliage'd my hair. But Shiri came up with a better plan and I adore her, her style, and my healthy, lush hair as a result of her ministrations. Truly, there's nobody better to cut and color hair than Shiri G. Oh, and did I mention she cuts my extremely picky husband's hair too? And that his last haircut seems to have landed him a plum job based off a fabulous interview. We joke that Shiri's haircut gave my husband the confidence to go after the best job of his career. He'll be sticking with her 'til he retires! I first met Shiri through a friend after I had just had a hair cut at a different salon. My cut wasn't awful, but I felt like something wasn't quite right, and my co-workers were honest enough to tell me they thought so too (thank goodness!). Shiri looked at it and said she could fix it. A few days later, I went in to see her, and I don't know exactly what she did, but it finally looked right! I'll be honest, my hair normally looks good (sorry, it's true), but I have never had as many compliments on my hair as I have since I started seeing Shiri. I think her best quality, in addition to her skill and eye for what looks good, is that she LISTENS. Imagine that! After that first "fixer," I wanted to try some different cuts and she took in what I said before giving me her input, with great results. It's also apparent she loves what she does, and with any type of service, that makes all the difference. Chaz is a lifesaver! After moving here from St. Louis, I was so scared to have anyone touch my hair that I'd wait to cut it until I flew back home for holiday's. My mom and my hairstylist thought I'd "get along" with Chaz and got me an appointment for Christmas. The place is beautiful, and everyone is so nice. I can come in and chill out and just have my hair done and not have someone rushing over my head. They actually listen to what you want, and the style I want is always accomplished. I love the idea of using products that heal your hair, and avoiding things that fry it in the salon. My hair is beautiful thanks to Chaz and I feel a lot more confident in more work. So a while back I reviewed Tite Ends Salon - I had a great experience with Shiri there. With this in mind I hunted her down on a recent trip to Los Angeles. I found her at Chaz Dean and wow! What a step in the right direction! The salon is soooo relaxing and down right beautiful! From the smells to the colors to the music playing to the beautiful outdoor courtyard that showcases a fireplace and koi pond, my senses were piqued and pampered. And once again, Shiri delivered. She did my cut and color and as a stylist friend noted (without a "how's my hair" prompt, I might add) I wound up with an "absolutely perfect" modern layered bob. Had my appointment with Rigo and I am beyond happy! I was having trouble explaining what I wanted to do with my hair.. I had the vision of what I wanted in my head but couldn't articulate it, and I swear Rigo read my mind. My roots have been growing in darker and darker and I prefer to stay blonde. But after frying my hair with bleach I had to say goodbye to the bleach blonde and begin the transition towards being a more natural/earthy blonde. I'm ecstatic that Rigo showed me I can lighten and blend my roots without using harsh bleach. Rigo, you are a genius and sweetheart! I don't think I'll let anyone else touch my hair now because I'm so happy with it haha. I highly recommend this salon, and almost don't want to. It's one of those tucked away gems that you have probably driven by hundreds of times without knowing. There are several parts to Chaz Dean's estate. I am usually frequenting his Wen store to purchase a product I now cannot live without. The Wen Fig Cleansing Conditioner. Wen products are all a bit pricey, but worth it. They change the texture of your hair for the better. I have coarse, thick hair that instantly softens and curls when I use the cleansing conditioner. I have a copper/auburn base hair color with blonde highlights and I was looking to go fully blonde. $300 and hours later, I left the salon looking exactly like I had when I walked in with my hair not lightened at all. I was so upset that I had wasted my time and money. This is my 5th hair appointment in the last 3 months in which I've been trying to go from medium brown/auburn hair to blonde and no salon can seem to give me results. I moved here from LA from Chicago where I loved my salon (see my review for Maxine's in Chicago). Before Chaz Dean I went to a Beverly Hills salon (not mentioned) that used bleach for my highlights and cause severe breakage and damage to my hair (which I have never had from 11 years of blond highlights). WELL, I found Chaz Dean Studio on yelp and decided to make an appt. What is new for me is that the stylists do cut and color... usually I would have a problem with this, but gave it a try. The salon is gorgeous and relaxing, you will love just being there. Danny is my stylist and he has completely transformed my hair in 7 days. He had to take off 4 inches of damage off and put low lights in... and put moisture back in my hair using Wen. Do yourself a favor and go to this salon. I absolutely loved Danny and the other stylists that were at the studio. I came in for color and highlights I was a little afraid because of my coarse hair, but I was instantly secured by the beautiful atmosphere and Danny's confidence to give me the look I was looking for, he even took the initiative to even lift my eyebrows to balance off my color now that's what I call a true stylist! Everyone was so nice and welcoming, I truly felt comfortable. Once I was complete from the color and highlights I absolutely loved my hair from just a blow out which I never thought would look good on me, my hair had volume and made me feel like a new woman. Chaz Dean was a gamble that I've been winning ever since I stepped foot in the place about 5 years ago. I picked Shiri from a "line up" because she had a sweet face and had lots of tattoos, not knowing the extensive experience she had under her belt. The location was 5 minutes from me so I had nothing to lose, right? I walked onto the property and was transformed into another zen dimension. I felt calm and relief right away and hoped this would be my forever haircut location. Then I met Shiri. We met, vibed and got to know each other and just knew that day, this was my place. I've never had a better experience from getting my haircut before Shiri. She has become a friend, and now basketball playing partner, after placing my bet on her 5 years ago. Yes the Wen is awesome but I'm not here to review a product. These reviews should be for Chaz, his studio or people that work there. As everyone already knows, he's a star. He's all over the place. So congrats to him for that. I haven't had a haircut from him in years but back in my single days when I somehow found $150 to be a workable price for a mans haircut, he was awesome. He sure made my haircuts look good. I had my hair much longer than I have it now so it required a little more than it does now. Anyone wanting to experience top notch hair cuts, go here.
