This place is fast, the owner doesn't waste time talking about trivial nonsense, but is very friendly. I thought it would be a good idea to go here. My truck passed smog in February, so I knew it would pass. Unfortunately, their system for waiting is waiting in line with your vehicle running. I decided not to waste gas, and turned off the engine each time I moved up one car link. When it was finally my turn to pull in, my battery was dead. They jump started it and then it took about 15 minutes for the receptionist to enter my data, then another 20 minutes goes by...then I'm told the computer on my truck was reset when the battery was jumped. She told me to drive 60-100 miles and then they could check it. Well, I decided I wasn't going to wait in that line again. After I finished driving 70 miles, I called a different smog place. The guy told me they should have told me to drive without the air conditioner on because the computer won't reset with the air conditioning running. So another 50 miles of driving before I can get the smog test. What a waste of time and money, and still, no smog. read more

Bought a groupon, seemed like it would be a great deal. The guy inspected my car then tested it. The car passed all the tests, but he failed me on the visual inspection because of a minor tear in one of the hoses! Shops that have a common decency would have told me that the car would not pass because of the visual, and they would not have performed the test or charged me. I have to wonder how many companies write their own reviews. I used Yelp to help find this company. I had a similar experience as Apollo A. After driving into the car bay the tech (who was also the owner) got into my car and asked me how long my engine light had been on. I indicated that I was not aware that it was on. And he said, "We'll test it anyway". Sure enough it failed. I paid the bill, drove out and parked in the rear lot. I called my mechanic to ask his advice about what to do next. He told me the engine light causes an automatic failure and if the owner was a decent person he would have told me this. I walked back in and confronted the owners of CHEAP SMOG TEST with this information. They told me that the state requires them to withhold this information and that they are required to test the car knowing that it will generate an automatic failure. They offered to retest it again after the engine light was off for a reduced fee equal to about 2/3 of the original fee. I left there feeling badly after suffering this abuse. I visited my mechanic. It turns out my indicator light was just notifying me of the need for scheduled maintenance. My mechanic quickly cleared the indicator for me and sent me to SMOG TEST ONLY at 1075A Santa Rosa Ave in Santa Rosa. I was happy to see a huge sign on the wall which said YOUR CAR WILL FAIL IF YOUR CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. My car passed easily at SMOG TEST ONLY. This was a good experience and I highly recommend them. So if you want to take your car to people who take advantage of others then take your car to CHEAP SMOG TEST, otherwise there are plenty of smog test companies who will treat you fairly. Some will even offer a free retest. read more

This place is awful! If you search this place under yahoo you will see why! I took my car there, which I had purchased less than a year prior and it passed smog fine when I transferred title. At first it failed only for the timing. I took it to my mechanic who said the timing was well within the limits, but he adjusted it slightly. I was guarded about returning to this place, especially after several people told me their experiences. I confronted the smog guy and he got upset that my mechanic said everything was fine and he stated he would not be doing it for free so not even to bother asking and proceeded to fail my vehicle...twice. My car had just been in there and the numbers were no where near fail, just the timing, so this was not even possible, i checked with my mechanic. Please beware and save your $45...its not worth it! read more

I was a loyal customer for the past 6-7 years. Yukon, Porsche, Jetta, Pathfinder (now wrecked) and a honda (daughter). This year, they found a missing decal... yes, a decal... which is the only reason which caused me to fail. Smog itself passed. I replaced the sticker (free), but do you think that he would comp the retest fee, like any good businessman? No. Never have I spent so much on a decal. Smogged a used car I bought last week for $53 bucks! It didn't pass the first time so they ran it through again - and whew! Cheap is not always better. A few years ago, a friend of mine went to this smog station. They told him his car was failing and that they knew a good mechanic just down the road who could fix everything. Turned out to be a very expensive scam; the mechanic charged close to a thousand dollars for work that never got done and the car still didn't pass. (My friend found out the work hadn't been done after he took his car to my very honest mechanic, North Bay Automotive). Stay away from this place. You may pay more for honesty somewhere else, but it's cheaper in the long run. read more

We waited for 1 hour and 45 minutes, 4 cars ahead of us, and cars (NOT IN LINE!!) were being brought in from the other end and tested as we watched and waited in line. Never again!! The good news is that, with their coupon, I paid less than I would have paid (compared with a better-rated place) on my '95 Honda. Also, my car passed easily. Still, my experience there certainly didn't fit the "always friendly" description of a previous reviewer. Maybe there's a different staff on Saturday (?), but the customer service was dismal. I arrived when no other customer was there. The person manning the desk came out after awhile, talking on his cell phone, and I never felt he really related to me at all other than to get the paperwork done and collect my money. The person doing the test was distracted by another customer who showed up later than me - some dispute about whether she qualified for something. Also, the test seemed to take an unusually long time -- perhaps because the process wasn't being tended to, or perhaps just because older cars require more. Just got my 93 Saturn smogged here (again). I've been taking it here for several years. As always, friendly, professional and efficient. Go early as it does get busy. Wear a coat, the waiting room has a heater, but it's still cold in chilly weather. I got there at 7:10 am and was back on the road at 7:30. Love this place! read more
