The good news is that, with their coupon, I paid less than I would have paid (compared with a better-rated place) on my '95 Honda. Also, my car passed easily. Still, my experience there certainly didn't fit the "always friendly" description of a previous reviewer. Maybe there's a different staff on Saturday (?), but the customer service was dismal. I arrived when no other customer was there. The person manning the desk came out after awhile, talking on his cell phone, and I never felt he really related to me at all other than to get the paperwork done and collect my money. The person doing the test was distracted by another customer who showed up later than me - some dispute about whether she qualified for something. Also, the test seemed to take an unusually long time -- perhaps because the process wasn't being tended to, or perhaps just because older cars require more. Cheap Smog i am not writing this because my car failed the test. According to you my obd was not ready to perform the test which is understandable. I am not a car guru but i know little here and there about cars may be more than lady working at the counter. But charging $45 dollar to hook up your obd scanner to my car was little too much. I was there for less than 15 minutes there was one car ahead of me. The guy hooked up a obd scanner in between working on the car ahead of me and still charged me a full amount. $15 would have been understandable because i get the cost of running business, but you have to remember you want people to come back to you and recommend other people to grow your business not chase them away with unethical business practise. $45 is not going to make me poor but i just felt like its wrong doing to charge people for something thats not worth. read more

Great service, both a fast and very reasonably priced Smog Test. No appointment required here, just drive in, get tested, pay, and drive out. Cheap, quick, honest. So-so waiting room, but I've never waited longer than 20 minutes. Been going here since 2006. We have two older cars, one American, the other Japanese. Both have always passed, except once when I had a bad gas cap. He took pains to test the cap again while I watched. With a new cap ($10), the car passed with flying colors. read more

I needed a smog to complete my registration. I had passed smog last year when tested for change of Title, so I figured it would pass with no problem. I own a 2001 Saturn L200. I was driving by Cheap Smog Test on Petaluma Hill Road and saw there was a short line so I pulled in. It was $45 and to my surprise I did not pass! I went to my trusted mechanic, Steve at SR Hydramatic, and he referred me to Rich at Another Smog Test Only Center. Although I couldn't use a non star certified smog center to complete my registration, I went to Rich and he did a pre test and I passed. I did not have a thing done to my car to aid in changing my smog results!! The only difference was more miles on the odometer. Rich referred me to go right across the street to Action Smog on SR Ave, and sure enough for $10 more than Cheap Smog Test, I passed. read more

i went in with my 2nd car for a smog test. I had a small gas leak coming out of the filler hose, i knew about this, the mechanic said it was going to be difficult to find a replacement part since My Izusu is a 1989 that i keep like a baby, new engine, in perfect condition except the smell of gas is very noticeable. The fact that the guy who was doing the test obviously could smell the gas leak, but then failed me for the test 45.00... Just the fact they charge if you fail is bad enough but he knew it would not pass with the gas leak and still was so intent on making the 45. that he went thru the motions. When i immediately went back to the mechanic, he said, no way should this smog guy put this to the test, he knew very well it would not pass. He said also they are not reputable people, he has had some bad reports from other customers also... Go elsewhere, where they don't charge you if you don't pass, and are responsible people to deal with, not so desperate for cash, they do not deal with the truth in business. read more

I drove up to their building (which stands out because it is pretty darn cool) at like 10 am, found two cars ahead of me, but was still finished within 1/2 an hour. THIEVES. Owner does under hood inspection (with me watching),Then does emissions test(passes). Then tells me my after market air filter is not CARB compliant. Which he could of told me ,before doing test. Charged me full price and said sorry . What bothered me the most, is I have a daughter. This guy is a crook. He ran a smog test on my son's car even though he knew the check engine light was on and would not pass. The bureau of auto repair states you need to inform the customer that it will not pass before hand, but he didn't. I went down there to complain and hopefully get his money back, but he refused and just pointed to a sign that said this fact.
