In Nov 2019 I received a Groupon gift for a smog test at this STAR certified shop. On a Wednesday afternoon, I called ahead, and the delightful Emily said they were not busy, so I went there right away. There was a note at the entrance informing customers that the machine for 20+ yrs cars was not working, but that didn't affect my car. If I could give negative stars I would! I found the woman in the office to be sketchy. Apparently the price changes as she see's fit. When I arrived the younger male told me I had a leak in one of the car pipes. He pointed out the steam but I wondered why he didn't bother to hook the car up to the machine to check for the actual smog check. I paid the no pass bill of $30 and took my car straight to my mechanic thinking the worst. My mechanic confirmed it was steam from the air conditioning unit. Forget these people. We've been getting our smog checks done here for several years now, and our previous experiences have been quite nice. Today (Sat July 31, 2021 @ 12:00 pm) however, was a different story, it was a terrible experience, at least with the receptionist at the check-in/out counter. We arrived right at a time when nobody was there waiting, so we drove right in, happily got out of our truck. We walked up to the receptionist, and we were smiling, saying "Wow, looks like we got here at a good time!" She said nothing, completely ignoring us and she had an awful scowl on her face, with no greeting to welcome us to their shop. Even so, we still said, "How are you doing today?", to which she said, with a grouchy response, "Fine." She then continued to be very grouchy and rude as we went through the (short) check-in process. The smog technician then came up, and he was extremely friendly. Then, during our smog test the receptionist suddenly and loudly yelled across the shop (from behind her desk) "PULL FORWARD!" She yelled this at least three times before we realized another customer had pulled up. We were truly baffled at why the receptionist would be screaming at the customer, any customer?!?! They were just sitting in their car, on their phone, apparently waiting for our vehicle to be finished. I guess the receptionist just could be bothered to put her phone down to do her job with kindness and professionalism! After figuring this out, and not wanting to hear the screams any more, Suzanne (my girlfriend) got up from her chair in the waiting area, walked over to the new customer and kindly told him the gal was asking (yelling at) him to pull forward, to which he said, "Oh, okay." Shortly thereafter, the friendly technician came up to tell us our truck was done... and we had some friendly conversation with him. During our conversation time the receptionist was grouchily, almost angrily, going through the check-out process, saying nary a word, and with a continued scowl on her face. After we paid for our smog cert and said our goodbyes to the technician (who was smiling nearly the entire time we were there), Suzanne said to the technician, "You might want to share your smile with her, it seems she could use one." We walked away to get in our truck, and the receptionist then yelled, "That's rude." Suzanne said, "No, yelling at your customers is rude." The receptionist continued yelling at us as we drove off. Never in my 50+ years have I experienced such rudeness and unprofessionalism from someone I've done business with. This gal should clearly NOT be working with other people, at least not on days that she can't control herself. You don't take your problems out on other people, including (and especially not) your customers. read more

Don't do it!!! Go somewhere else!!! Online says they open at 8a, you get there and there is a sign on the door that says 9a. 9:20a rolls around and no one in sight. Return at 10a and they're open! Awful place. Yes, I always pass smog, but the guy there hated his job, never smiled and when I keep calling to see if they will send in certificate or I have to, they NEVER answer the phone and don't return the voicemails. By the time you add the separate price for certificate to the smog check (can't they just give you a total price like everyone else does?) you're saving about $5. Not worth the bad service. Came here back in 2017, and really liked it, however now with the new ownership this place is trash. Terrible customer service from the guy who rang me up. He lacks the needed people skills to do his job. Kid, do yourself a favor and go work in a warehouse where you don't need to interact with others, its obvious you hate talking to people. Super rude, and unprofessional, but what do you expect when you go to a place called "Cheap Smog Test" you get a cheap experience, one worth not returning. Gave this place one star because at least there was one person with enough brain cells to do his job. Was told that there was only 1 car they were working on when I called, yet two minutes later when I showed up, there were 5 in front of me. Smog tech backed a big truck with a tow hitch into my vehicle and didn't respond when I said "you hit me!" He didn't even look. Nobody cared. read more

I had the WORST customer service experience here today. The woman was SO rude! There was NO ONE in line behind me and she kept telling me to pull around the corner instead of searching for my Groupon in front of her. She seemed annoyed that I wasn't paying full price as did the inspector. She had come out of the enclosed waiting room when I pulled in so I had no idea it was "closed" due to Covid and she quickly reprimanded me when I approached the door. Quite frankly I was APPALLED at her tone. When my car was done I asked both of them if they owned the place because they acted like I was taking food out of their child's mouth by using the Groupon and she started yelling at me and telling me I didn't follow directions...apparently because I didn't pull around the corner when asked. I would have had there been anyone in line behind me...but again I was the ONLY customer there. Either way no one should ever speak to a customer like that. Both of them should find another career. It's too bad because the Groupon makes it affordable and it's quick but the customer service is TERRIBLE. I wonder if the owner knows how they act? They probably have enough business because smogs are required to care but I do wish they would train her so it's a more pleasant experience. I was very hesitant about coming here at first because the location is on a very busy road, and the photos online did not do this place justice. I was in need of a star certified smog check on a Sunday, to renew my vehicle registration. Let me just start by saying that 9/10 smog check places are closed on Sundays, so the options were very limited. After finding a coupon on Yelp for the smog check (you can also get it via their website) I decided to give this place a shot. I parked on the side of the building and walked in the front of the shop telling the guy at the front desk that I needed a smog check. He told me to pull my car in the shop. The shop works kind of like a line, the car in the far back is currently getting a smog check and then when they're done, they pull out and the line moves up. (So it's impossible for someone who got there after to be finished before you) I was in and out of there in about 30min (two cars were in front of mine) and got a star certified smog check on a Sunday for around $40. In all honesty, the guy working the front desk seemed like he was only there because he was getting paid for it, not that he actually wanted to help me. But beggars can't be choosers, and I don't go to get a smog check looking for great customer service. As long as I'm in and out quickly and don't pay an arm and a leg for it, I'm happy. read more

I arrived to be yelled at by a woman at the desk. I go park on the side like she yelled at me to. Then there's a man honking, parked in the middle of the street, proceeds to come up to my window, yelling at me "you need to move your car, this is my spot!" We obviously didn't stick around. This was completely unacceptable and uneccasary, will never go back. I have seen numerous othe reviews stating how rude the woman is and how the tech won't wear a mask up to 2 months ago. Very sad. This place is outstanding. The service was impeccable and friendly as can be. The guy has an eye for photography too I might ad. I came in to get my car smogged after some horrible experiences in the city (SF). I figured, A. it's going to be cheaper, and B. hopefully a little quicker turnaround as well. There were some complications with some engine work I just had done and the possibility of failing my second smog test. The guy was nice enough to stop me before failing me again and at least warn me that I should be driving the car around a bit more to reset the car's computer in order to pass. Most businesses I know would gladly take a customer's money regardless of their knowledge of my vehicle. Cheap Smog Test is exactly what it promises. I got my car smogged here about a week ago. It really is the cheapest place, and also efficient. I went around 9am, no one else was there, so just pulled on in. Edmund smogged my car, and because I was curious about the process, he let me watch and explained it all to me, which was great! I didn't look in, but there's a heated waiting area inside, too, in case it's chilly. The whole thing took about 15-20minutes, just in time for the next car to arrive. Got scammed here. Took our VW van to get smogged and the tech mentioned something about all Volkswagens tending to fail smog because of timing problems involving too high RPM. We've never had a problem with that before, so we didn't think anything of it. After running the tests, he proclaimed that, in fact, our van would not pass because of the RPM reading. He charged us $45 and sent us on our way. My boyfriend smelled BS so we took it down the street to Action Smog. The tech there said the other guy could not possibly have run the test properly because our van passed just fine. We chose this place because it was the cheapest, but we ended up having to pay for another test anyway. Gross! Take your business elsewhere. read more
