We came here for an impromptu lunch after running weekend errands nearby at Total Wine and Home Depot. I had heard great things about the cafe at this new location, and had even tried their former location on Hillcroft a couple years ago as part of TooGoodToGo. While the concept is casual, the restaurant itself is very polished and feels like an upscale cafe. There is plenty of seating indoors as well as a huge patio outdoors. We opted to sit on the patio on a (rare) nice Houston day. The tables were spacious and the patio seating was very comfortable. We ordered the Kofta Kabob and Chicken Kabob specialty platters. These platters come with your choice of two sides - we went for the Fried Cauliflower, Tabouli Salad, Hummus, and Muhammara. The meats were so good and hit the spot. The Kofta Kabob had a complexity of flavor to it; so many spices that blended together really well. I will say that the post-meal burps of these spices were...smellier than usual. The Chicken Kabob was also flavorful and had a nice smokiness to it from the grill. I liked the slight crunch provided by the char along the edges. If I knew how to make chicken like this, it would be my daily meal prep! The Fried Cauliflower had a nice sear to it with lots of flavor. The Tabouli Salad and Hummus were comparable to those I've had at other Mediterranean places. The Muhammara was my favorite of the sides! It is a dip like hummus but also incorporates tomatoes, red bell peppers, and onions, among other spices; there was so much flavor to it and I could snack on this all day. The included pita bread was large, fluffy, and piping hot - perfect for dipping between the two side dips we got. Service was quick and friendly. The employee taking our order behind the counter was friendly and gave us the recommendation for the Muhammara - great rec. What a delightful surprise on our first visit to Abdallah's after having so many bland, disappointing meals at some other Middle Eastern places in the Heights area. The food is flavorful and seems more authentic as it's family owned and staff is very welcoming, helpful and friendly. We went on Saturday, got two Combo Dinners as you choose two mains and two sides. My husband got chicken and beef kafta with sides of hummus and fried cauliflower and I had beef kabob and beef kafta with sides of baba ganoush and greek salad. Upon delivery to our table (you order at counter) I was pleased to see the generous portion sizes then as we dug in, the flavors were yum! Even though there with many people there, there was plenty of seating and a nice sized patio we should have sat and enjoyed the cool breeze as it's on the East side of the restaurant. I don't think beer/wine or available so it's probably BYOB, didn't ask. The sweets looked really good. Abddallah's will certainly be one of our regular dining spots from now on. The ordering process is at the counter and you self seat and there is also no service (like Torchy's). We tried a couple appetizers and the beef for the main. I had the beef shawarma pita with za'atar fries. I could tell that the beef shawarma is spiced with cloves; it gives the dish a festive feeling. I also like that there isn't much acidity in the shawarma as in my experience, cloves and acid make a much too strong ketchupy flavor that overpowers the dish. I probably won't get the fries again. While I like the za'atar seasoning and the herbal fragrance it gave the fries, it doesn't let the fries stand out on their own without some sauce to add. They still rely on the ketchup sauce for them to taste good. read more

A Houston treasure. Located near the Heights. Food is spectacular as ever. If it is in your budget, the family still makes and imports their amazing, unfiltered olive oil. Friends feel it is the finest one can find in Houston. I, personally, make my falafel as a 50/50 of the Egyptian style with fava and the more traditional chickpea and they do the same here, resulting in an truly excellent falafel with a great "crunch". I wanted to love it here. I always see this place popping and was excited to finally try it out. We get to order before we seat ourselves and there's plenty of seating both indoors and outdoors. The overall flow and service seemed to work well. The Kafta Pita Wrap was juicy and delicious, so I think the pita wraps might be the way to go here. The hummus and bread were good enough, I didn't think they were anything special. The Shawarma Beef plate was the biggest disappointment - the beef was very overcooked and dry, so tasteless that I ended up not eating my meal. Perhaps I just ordered the wrong item but I was really hoping for better meat. We actually frequent here a lot but that is going to change. Today, this woman physically grabbed me after I sat down for dinner, and she falsely accused me of moving her apron and phone (... who wants to touch someone's dirty apron and old phone?? The staff had apparently moved her things). I leaned away from her and she continued to grab my shoulders. She then proceeded to chat obliviously with other customers. We found out later that she is one of the owners of the restaurant. The staff apologized for her behavior and stated that she "does this kind of thing all the time." I think anyone in the service/hospitality business, ESPECIALLY the owner, should be respectful to guests and mindful of crossing physical boundaries. We liked some of the food, albeit thought it was overpriced, and some of the staff. It doesn't make up for rudeness from top management. If you dine here, keep your eyes peeled for her, and make sure you don't sit anywhere close to her stuff! read more

Last time I came to Abdallah's was a few years back at their previous location. There was a reason why everyone in Houston knows about Abdallah's - their food is that good. It was delicious -- very close to a 5. I ordered the chicken kabob plate, and the chicken was juicy and perfectly seasoned. For sides, the garlic potatoes were the standout and easily my favorite dish -- absolutely the one I'd recommend. The fried cauliflower was just okay and cooled off pretty quickly, but the pita and hummus were solid. The staff was friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better. The space itself is on the smaller side, so tables are fairly close together, but it didn't take away much from the meal. The chicken plate was around $20, which isn't cheap, but the quality and portions made it feel worth it. MOverall, excellent food and a spot I'd happily recommend to anyone looking for Lebanese food. It wasn't what i expected, it was slightly sour, i also ordered the babaghanouj, which is good with some pita bread. Abdallah's was an institution formerly situated in Southwest Houston. They have now set up shop off of I-10 and Studemont, catty-corner to the Total Wine. They offer sweet and savory Lebanese cuisine, that it brought out hot and fresh. They offer breakfast, lunch, and dinner and are open 7 days a week. At this time, they do not offer online ordering, but take-out did not take long at all. You can see the schwarma spit, as well as the prep station. The desserts are on display, and look fantastic! I was so excited to try this place -- it's close to home and has received glowing reviews both here and in local foodie groups! We ordered takeout for dinner and got the chicken shawarma wrap, the beef shawarma plate (with baba ganoush and tabouli as sides), and baklava for dessert. Unfortunately, we were disappointed. The chicken shawarma was dry, the beef shawarma tasted like it had been sitting too long, and the baklava was just okay. The sides were actually quite good, but overall the meal didn't live up to the hype. Maybe we just caught them on an off night, because clearly a lot of people love this place. I came here after an appointment nearby. I live nearby and had been seeing the signs of this space being occupied by a Lebanese restaurant. I got excited because I've been wanting a better variety of food options in this plaza. A few food and bar businesses had been wanting to rent spaces nearby, but some never come to fruition. They are still in their soft opening phase, so on a Saturday early evening, they had limited options. I wasn't dining in, but the space is lovely with that beautiful chandelier and large fake tree. I can't wait till their patio is set up. I also came in to preview their menu. I think they have a great selection. There are many items I'd like to try in the future. For now, I had their cheese flatbread, zaatar flatbread, and falafels. The zaatar flatbread was gifted to me. Thank you! :) I appreciate it very much. Everything was delicious. The flatbread was made to order in their oven. The cheese flatbread was cheesy and had a nice mozzarella cheese pull. Little kids who like cheese pizza would enjoy this. I haven't had zaatar flatbread before, but I enjoyed the seasonings. I made a caprese salad to eat it with. Both flatbreads are good the next day in the air fryer. I couldn't eat all the bread in one sitting for just myself. Plus, I ordered falafels that came with a cute, heart-shaped container with tahini sauce. Wow. These are some of the best falafels I've had in Houston in a while. I liked the ones at The Green Vegetarian off Chimney Rock (now closed) and a place in Philly. It was lightly crispy on the outside and pillowy on the inside. The flavor was so good. It literally came off the fryer, so the oil could've been tapped off a bit, but it wasn't overly greasy. I would order all these items again. Service was so friendly. They're supposed to fully open at the end of the month once they've hired more staff and get the patio set up and all the blue tape off. Abdallah's does not disappoint! I've already been twice in one week because everything is just that good. The falafel was some of the best I've had. The hummus was incredibly smooth and flavorful, clearly made with high-quality ingredients. The pita's made fresh in a big oven right in the restaurant, arriving warm, soft, and slightly chewy--the perfect complement to everything on the table. We also ordered Turkish coffee, which was bold and rich, paired with some sweets (bird's nest and baklava), both of which were delicious. The food here is great, everything we've had is fresh and delicious. They don't have a billion options like other Lebanese restaurants but I feel like what they do offer is amazing and at a great price. We live down the street from this place and my wife goes at least once every two weeks as she loves their sides! Even more impressive, if there's something not to your liking or something the staff may do which irks you, just talk to the owner, he's always willing to make it right and you can't beat that kind of customer service! We knew Abdallah's from our days living off Westheimer and Hillcroft in the 90s, exploring the incredible variety of Middle Eastern restaurants and bakeries that were sprouting up like sunflowers at the time. Abdallah's was a regular stop for decadent pastries and handmade breads. But we moved into the Heights 25 years ago and our adventures west were fewer and far between...and then, Abdallah's arrived in their new home just a scant 1/2 mile from our house. They're even better now. Incredible, actually and our large gaggle of friends who munched on kebabs, falafel, babaghanoush and hummus last night completely agreed. Brilliant, fresh, tasty, obviously made with love:) This is a family-owned place, with everyone serving in some capacity. They've also got a gorgeous unfiltered olive oil from Lebanon. They make their own Za'atar spices, are particular about only having experienced experts making shawarma, the pita are warm fluffed puckers of love delivered fresh from the stone oven... heaven:) Run, don't walk. This place is the real deal. I'm Lebanese myself and was raised on homemade Lebanese food. I was blessed enough that they moved in literally right next door to where I live, so I come here somewhat frequently. They have food items that I haven't seen served at a restaurant in a long time. For example, today they're serving kibbeh nayeh. When was the last time you saw that? Their service is always very quick and very accommodating. I came at 3pm and they stopped serving breakfast items at noon, but they were kind enough to make me two breakfast items anyways. That sort of thing speaks volumes to me. The interior of the restaurant is always clean and looks very nice. Great ambiance in here. Overall, if you're in the area, I highly recommend you come check them out.
