Love this restaurant. The atmosphere is cozy, the staff attentive and friendly, and the food delicious. Love the idea of building your own meal to order. You can tell everything is homemade and so flavorful. It's upscale dining with white tablecloths and all the detail of fine dining but reasonably priced, hearty portions at a very reasonable price. We wanted to really like this place. We drive 40 minutes to try it for lunch. It was a cute little diner. Clean. Friendly staff. When I asked our server what her favorite thing on the menu was, she kinda stumbled and didn't know what to say. That's one of my favorite questions to ask the staff when I try a new place. This was the 1st time a server actually didn't answer right away. Actually, she stumbled for a few seconds, so I asked how the tomato bisque was. She said "oh it's good." I asked about the sausage gravy and she replied the same way. I did get the tomato bisque, and I'm sad to report it was awful! 1st of all, it was less then luke warm! I'm sure the health inspectors would say that's a super bad thing. It didn't have any taste to it. Actually it had a strange bitter taste. My hubby tried it and he thought it was awful too. We did not eat it. I told her i didn't like it and she did take it off the bill. My biscuit with cheese, fried egg and sausage gravy was just ok. My hubby had a create your own sandwich. He checked the box for Cajun chicken, which was anything but Cajun. Apparently Cajun to them is just a lot of pepper. He also checked the box that said pesto. They must not have had any pesto cause there was none on there, but they made sure to pour olive oil on the bread, so he got one of the ingredients in pesto. He also got the side of coleslaw which he made a face the 1st forkful he put in his mouth! This is soooo unlike him. He couldn't eat it. He said it smelled & tasted spoiled!!!!! After complaining I didn't like the soup, we didn't feel like complaining about the other stuff. We just didn't finish, paid the bill and got the heck out. Certainly wouldn't go back. The place is most definitely decorated well and the staff and environment is very friendly. The food is excellent and I would say that it is also family friendly. However, my only complaint would be wait time on food. The last time I was there in November (3rd time there) 3 tables that were seated far after us were served first. If I could give this no stars I would. Three people at our table of 8 got the Keto Skillet and it was awful. The cook never drained the grease from the meat on any of our meals and it was so gross. I ate it because I felt bad complaining and felt sick even after I drained the grease myself. The waitress had a blank stare when I showed her the grease that was drained off my plate. (In the pic it's the cup of brown liquid). The rest of the food was average. The sour cream was like water and the menu said it had salsa which was really cut cherry tomatoes. The butter also just didn't look right. After reading the reviews I had hopes for a great Mother's Day breakfast with my family. Very disappointing! read more

Great place to eat and enjoy some quality time with my bride. We had to come back and try their new keto additions. She had the stuffed philly pepper (keto) and I had the steak and eggs, can't resist a good steak. I was pretty excited to try this place. It's local and I saw it on fox 8. We went on a Saturday evening for dinner. The uupside was that the diner is very clean and the staff was friendly. That's the end of the upside... I ordered the salmon and it was delivered to the table raw in the middle. I had no choice but to ask the waitress to have them cook it longer. My husbands food was blah for lack of a better word. I am not a great cook but we should of stayed home because even I would have been able to make a more tastier meal. I have been meaning to check this place out for a good while. I dont find myself out that way often so when I did I took the opportunity and stopped in. I opted for the fish sandwich and it was perfect. Exactly what I was looking for flavor and portion size wise. The Cole slaw that came with was creamy and delicious. I think I'd like to try the fries next time, but that's not a knock on the slaw. I think if I'm out that way again I'll give the build your own sandwich thing a try. The Check Please Cafe is a breath of fresh air to our tiny town of Grafton. The staff was welcoming and very friendly. The establishment was very clean and its decor has a homey country feel. The atmosphere was pleasant, the food was average at best. I order the stuff pepper, basically a small bell pepper cut in half with thin slice beef and cheese over it. The plate lacked flavor and for the price needed to come with a side dish ( rice or potatoes ) the also served it with a horseradish sauce, I really wanted to like it but it was horrible. I love this place! We have dined there for breakfast on three separate occasions and each time they have not disappointed! We always choose the "check" option and build our own platters.
