But with an aging car that is starting to get leaks and other wear and tear, I knew it was high time to finally get an inspection. Fortunately, Yelp recommended Tom & Jerry's, and after taking it in and getting some substantial service done, I couldn't be happier with my experience. One of the great things about T&J's is that they text you a link to your inspection report, which lists urgent, not-so-urgent, and recommended items to address...and pictures of all of the problem areas. I was actually quite relieved that my car's main leak was from cracked transmission lines and not an actual failing transmission. Even if I didn't have some basic mechanical knowledge, it would have been obvious from the pictures that the lines needed to be replaced. Likewise, images of battery life, ride quality, and other factors all helped me opt to fix the more urgent service items. When talking to the technician over the phone, he never tried to sell me on the less urgent items (such as a loose sway bar), and the prices quoted were very reasonable. Ultimately, I spent $1200 on four tires, a new battery, a replaced passenger mirror (labor only -- I'd brought in the part), an oil change, the inspection itself, and the replacement transmission lines. It would be an exaggeration to say my car feels new, but there's something to be said for the peace of mind that it's been thoroughly inspected, and the key issues have been addressed. Given that I was dreading having to potentially shop for a new car, I'm especially glad for T&J's service. One minor negative that is nonetheless worth mentioning is that they don't have much of a waiting area, and there aren't any decent places to sit for awhile nearby (the Starbucks, five blocks away, is drive-thru only!). After wandering around the area for awhile, I wound up just getting a Lyft home. Not a big deal at all, but just be prepared to drop off your car and have a pick-up option ready.

At 110K miles I've had one every 5K miles.I've paid an average of $40-$60 over its lifetime but.. never $140. There was no quote online or in person I was ever given, I was in no way expecting $140. I told them this at the counter, and they said they quoted other shops around and they're all there. Ok.. uh no. Regardless I'll never be back. No communication, drop off 8am, vehicle was ready at 4:30(not a problem necessarily, but an opportunity for sure).

I first called in mid-January to get a quote on replacing the 350TH transmission with a 700R4 in the 1979 Corvette to make it more highway drivable. After calling back every for 6 weeks with the promise from Ryan that I would have the quote anywhere from 1/2 an hour to the next day, I finally gave up and forgot about the whole thing. In Mid-April I got a call from Ryan if I was still interested in which I informed him that I had given up on him. He told me that the quote was emailed and text to me over a month ago. Neither was true. It took a couple of days, but I finally got a quote from him, and I was told by the end of June he would be doing the work. At the end of June, I was contacted to pay half up front so they could order the parts so the work could be started by Mid-July. His invoice included over 1,000 to transport the car which he told me was included. I paid the invoice but not the 1,000. I told him at this time that the tires are not the correct size, and the speedometer gears would have to be changed because the speedometer does not show the correct speed. Mid-July I called and asked why he had not picked the car up? I was told all the parts had not come in and when they did, he would get the car and start work, it should be at the end of July. The end of July came, and he had not picked up the car. So, I called and was told that there was one more car in front of mine and he would pick the car up after that. The second week of August still has not picked the car up. Frustrated I told Ryan I was done and wanted my money back and forget the whole thing. After some talking, he agreed to pick the car up the next week and after another car that was ahead of mine was done, he would start on my car. At this point I reminded Ryan that the tires on the car were not the correct size. He told me he remembered and it would not be a problem. The car sat at his shop for 2 1/2 months before I got it back. More unreturned phone calls and lies about why the car is not being worked on. When he was ready to bring it back, he sent me an invoice for more than 1,000 over what we agreed on. When I called him about this, his answer was he did not know where that invoice came from and sent me another invoice with the correct amount. I got the car back in mid-October and drove it a few times to find the speedometer was not correct. I called Ryan and told him about the speedometer was not correct. He told me he would call me back and let me know what he was going to do. I was not surprised he did not call back and was just going to do it myself when three weeks later, as I was walking past the car I noticed transmission fluid under the car. I called Ryan and told him the transmission was leaking and he still needed to do something about the speedometer. A month later, he showed up and told me it would be a two-day turn around. I knew he was lying to me but went with it. I had asked if he could look at a bolt hole that has started to strip under the thermostat because it was leaking. I figured it would be 100 - 200 for him to do it. At least he would make a little on driving all the way to get the car. 4 weeks later, and a bunch of calls and being lied to again, the work was finally done, and he gave me a bill of almost 800.00 to fix the striped hole. When I asked why so high he told me it was 2 1/2 hours of work and noticed I was double charge on something and knocked it down to just under 700.00. I could have replaced the Intake Manifold for with a new one for half the price for what it cost to repair a stripped bolt hole. After putting the car in the garage and shutting it off I tried to restart it again. Nothing happened, not even a click. Ryan got into the car and shifted gear a few times and it finally started. He said it was because of the cold. I am guessing it has something to do with the neutral switch but I was not going to have him take it back. I will figure it out or have someone else do it. By the way the thermostat is still leaking. Again I will figure it out or pay someone else to. This nightmare started in Mid-January and ended in Mid-January of the next year. One full year of hell. Oh. He did give me a used tarnished air cleaner to add to the engine bay on a car that I have won awards from NCCC judges.
