We went to see Dr. Nwagwu again for a re-evaluation of my mothers cerebral anurysm and to review her recent test study at Saddleback Hospital In June, she had a trigeminial nurological attack possibly or a TIA in June 2023 and Dr Nwagwu explained all of her test results and showing us the images. He put her mind at ease by letting us know the anurysm has not changed, and he was concerned to check her trigeminal and ocipital nerves. My motheris now 83 and she was very pleased once again with Dr Nwagwu he is the kindest and so soft spoken he really listenes to her and ordered a much needed MRA test to check her trigeminal and ocipital nerves for her Nuralgia. We are very pleased with his service, the office staff is great as well, Tracy is such a dear she responds very quickly and is very helpful. Dr Nwagwu is AMAZING. Full stop. We were traveling on business in this area and my husband had to have Emergency Surgery. If you are in need of an absolutely brilliant surgeon, want a doctor that is unbelievably kind, answers all your questions, & takes the time to explain everything to you in a digestible way, Dr Nwagwu is....full stop, THAT Special Surgeon & HealthCare Provider we all hope exists. And he does. I've never met anyone in the medical field like this very special man. My family is beyond grateful to you Doctor! Thank you for everything you have done for my husband & our family. Even though you are a 4 hour drive from our home to your office you make the 4 hour drive from the Central Coast more than worth the drive! Some background: My husband had been dealing with back pain since April 2024 that was progressively getting worse. He'd been to the Chiropractor, ER and a Spine Dr. (Strangely NONE ordered a CT Scan) The ER Docs gave him much needed pain med shots and some pain meds for later, but oddly imo-again, NO CT scan. The Spine Dr wanted an MRI -but as late as late September our insurance co kept denying it. Simultaneously & having nothing to do w his back pain, he had been getting an annual physical and blood work. His PC NP recommended he get a Cardiology exam & CAT Scan as heart stuff runs in his family. (Even tho insurance wouldn't pay for it he elected to do it.) He saw his PC in followUp and the CAT Scan showed his heart was very healthy. Yay!!! Meanwhile, 5.5 months later, while traveling on business in Orange County, after a long day at a Clients office- he said, "this is NOT normal back pain. I have to go to the ER tonight!" Long story short they did a Cat Scan and told him he was being admitted to hospital. Oh and asked did he "know that CAT Scan his Cardiologist ordered a while back-also showed same thing the hospital was seeing on their CAT Scan -that led us to admit you"? What? (That's another long story.) He had tumors all up and down his Spine with one very large mass that was pressing down onto his Spinal Cord that could've paralyzed him for life at any moment. This was on a Friday night and my husband was scheduled for Emergency Surgery on Sunday. Enter Dr Ched Nwagwu. To say We were terrified would not begin to describe it. Not only because of what the Tumors meant but because my husband was about to undergo what was going to be a very long surgery (over 5 hours) that he would be in excruciating pain following surgery becs of the need to remove all the tumors and a very large scar with a Rod being placed down his back. It was a nightmare. Dr Nwagwu we had already been hearing was the Surgeon that treated two of the Staff at the Hospital and we were hearing the kinds of things you want to hear about a Surgeon in a situ like this. Brilliant Surgeon and just the most kind person. I did my research online too and read all about his educational background and watched him do an interview about his becoming the Director of a new unit connected to hospital. Lastly I want to mention my interaction w Dr Nwagwu that I will be forever grateful to him for just as my husband was being sedated pre-op. He recognized me waiting in hall outside PreOp, and with everything he had to prepare for the surgery, took time to come up, put his hand on my arm and in kindest, calmest & soft spoken way, asked how I was doing. I started to go on auto pilot & say "I'm fine" but with the sincerity in way he asked, I teared up, & it made me stop and tell him "not good, I'm terrified". He then looked at me with such kind concern, and asked why. I told him I was afraid how the surgery would go given my husbands fragile condition. He then told me to not worry, that HE was not worried. He had every expectation the surgery would go very well and he would be sure to come talk to me as soon as surgery was completed. The making me feel seen & heard, and the genuine humanity with which Dr Nwagwu spoke to me and assured me, I will forever be grateful for that day. It is now 2 months later, my husbands surgery was an awesome success & his healing beautifully, but my husband walking 200 feet on 2nd day AFTER surgery, Dr Nwagwu is one special person! read more

Dr. Nwagwu performed C-spine surgery on me in 2016. He left my right arm 30% permanently paralyzed. He has not offered any follow up appointments to help me in anyway. I would not recommend this doctor/neurosurgeon to anyone in the world! read more

Dr. Nwagwu was my neurosurgeon who performed my emergency craniotomy. I didn't get the chance to properly meet him until after the surgery but I am honestly so blessed that God put me in his hands. He literally saved my life. I was admitted to the ER on a Tuesday and my craniotomy was originally scheduled for Friday but he decided to push it forward to Wednesday because he didn't want to take any chances and I couldn't be more thankful because I could have ended up in much worse shape. I don't remember much of my time when I was hospitalized but my family told me that he came in almost everyday in the ICU to check-up on me and make sure I was doing okay. Even when I was transferred to a regular patient room, he still came to check-in and see if we had any questions. I had my follow-up visit recently and he was super patient with me while taking the time to explain every detail about the surgery and my entire hospitalization. The reviews are true - he's kind, compassionate, and has amazing bed-side manner. The doctor's visit didn't feel as rushed as most normal check-ups do. Scheduling is a bit difficult, but now I understand why. They had to reschedule my appointment twice because he was called in for emergency surgeries and since I was once that emergency patient, I completely understood. Thank you, Dr. Nwagwu!!! read more

I did receive a follow-up call from Dr. Nwagwu on 4/3/18 wanting to discuss the cancellation of my surgery and this review. It had been well over a month since I cancelled the surgery. I was in a meeting and returned the call the next morning. I spoke to a receptionist as he was not available. I gave a 2-hour window when I was available. I also said if that time was not convenient for him, to text me a couple times he was available and I would adjust my schedule so that we could speak. That was over 2 weeks ago and I still have not received a response. This supports the conclusions of my previous post and makes me feel great about the decision I made. Now several weeks into the PT suggested by my other doctor, my neck and back are feeling really good and improve every week. read more

I am forever grateful to Dr Nwagwu. I was referred to him with a large (10.5) brain aneurysm and was scared to death! I immediately knew I was in the right hands, he's not only brilliant, but kind, compassionate, caring, and answered all questions without ever rushing thru the appointment. Horrified at the type of service they lack in providing. Work hours 9:30a.m. - 11:45 -lunch from 12 -2:30 (2.5 hours, how nice) then till 5pm but they don't answer the phones; EVER. You leave a message and they say "leave only 1 message and we have 48 hours to call you back" (2 days) but...THEY DON'T CALL YOU BACK! Meanwhile it's been a week since my 92 year old father has been approved to see the doctor for the mass in his brain. Dr. Nwagwu, you may be a wonderful doctor and I'm sorry but your staff is absolutely horrible! We can't even make an appt. to meet you. It was second time that I visited Dr. Nwagwu's office today. On both times, Dr. Nwagwu and his office people were very kind, and nice. No need to wait for more than 20 minutes. In addition, Dr. Nwagwu is an excellent, and caring person. He spent a lot of time to explain what I can do (possibilities, tests, and treatments) for my left hand's tingling and sharp pain after MVA. The front office is horrible to deal with. They never answer the phone they say to leave a message and they will call you back within 24 to 48 hours but they NEVER call you back !! Have never been to an office like this... It is like the do not care about you. I feel bad for the Dr. He is probably great but they are making him look bad! Also waited in the waiting room 1 hour 30 minutes. Will never go back to this horrible place!! read more

Worst office staff ever. Their message states that if you call and leave a message don't call back and leave additional messages. What kind of office has this type of message? The kind that never calls the patients back. I had a 10:15 appointment and they called me at 10 to cancel. The doctor was in surgery at 7 am that morning the office staff knew he wouldn't be coming in for his 10:15. The staff sits behind a window when they speak with you. They don't work with highly contagious patients, criminals, or possible bank robbers so why the need for a window???? They never return calls and are very discourteous. read more

Dr. Nwagwu is erudite, caring and truly the best Neurosurgeon in town. On 7/28/2008 my partner suffered a ruptured brain aneurysm. She had the worse level brain aneurysm one could suffer. She had less than a 1% chance of surviving. Because of Dr Nwagwu and his colleagues Karen is alive today and thriving! He gives his heart to every patient and spends an enormous amount of time with all those he sees. He is truly one of a kind and if you need a Neurosurgeon he should be your choice. Kind, bright and caring are his top three attributes. His staff is new and learning the ropes. Give them a chance to learn their jobs and eventually they will be as quick as his other people were. We have waited for Dr Nwagwu and we never mind waiting. People need him in emergencies and we were those people 9 years ago. He is worth any minute you may have to wait. I saw Dr. Nwagwu yesterday for the first visit. It was definitely worth the several weeks I waited to see him. He is very intelligent, humble, and has a calm, kind manner. After seeing many specialists, I feel he asked the exact questions necessary and actually gave me a diagnosis. He referred me to the doctor he believes will help me, but I will see Dr. Nwagwu again to consult on the success of the appointment. I would highly recommend him.
