    Country Fried Chicken

I'm an early eater! My party and I came around 11:00 AM and were seated quite promptly by the hostess; the waitress was soft-spoken but diligent! She was amazing; she didn't forget any of our orders, she was courteous to make sure the apps came out before our entrees, and always checked up on us every now and then! I got a bottomless soda, and for my meal I had the country fried chicken with 2 pieces ($14.29). For my sides, I had got the loaded baked potato along with the Broccoli Casserole. When the food came out....every element on my plate was fresh-to-order. I was amazed at the quality, level of attention and service I received this past Friday. Keep it up, Cheddar's!

food is cold, and i got a grilled cheese and my cheese isn't even melted. i want better.

YIKES! Ordered chicken strips (just had mouth surgery, needed something easy.) They were rubbery and overcooked. I could barely pull them apart. I sent my food back for the first time ever, which our waitress was understanding about. I ordered the lemon pepper chicken instead. It was dry, lukewarm, and just disappointing. The sides taste like buffet food and are just okay. The broccoli and cheese "casserole" is broccoli and Velveeta. The cole slaw is under seasoned. The rice is oversalted. The green beans are from a can. Cheddar's calls itself a casual cafe, and the prices reflect that the food won't be the highest tier of culinary wonder. But what I ordered today wasn't even edible. Rather than send food back twice, I went home hungry and with pity for the diners walking in.

Cheddars is really going down hill- higher prices, smaller portions, and subpar service. Took 10 minutes to get initial service, took 15-20 Minutes for a simple grilled chicken sandwhich took 15 min to check out. Chicken was bland, over cooked and really small for $10 Chicken is bigger at Wendy's for half the cost

Whenever we are in town, we stopped by here occasionally whenever we wanted affordable steaks! This time we got seated by the bar booth. My fiancée had to switched over to my side because she says it's smelled like someone had puke in that seat and smelly. Our waitress, Michelle, was extremely accommodating and offered to wiped and clean down the seat for us. But my fiancée was fine over my side and didn't have problem with the smell when she at next to me. I had the T-Bone Steak with a side Caesar salad. My fiancée had an 8 oz sirloin with a house salad. When our steak were first brought out, my fiancée's steak looked dead like there's no life in it. It tasted like the steak sat in its blood and was cooked in it. We asked them to remake the steak and the difference between them shows. The new steak tastes WAY better than the lifeless beef we had. The new steak tasted like why we came to this location in the first place! The manager, Lane, checked on us when we asked to get it remade. He was accommodating and had the lifeless beef taken off the receipt.

They warm up the table with this amazing cornbread & hot rolls Today I had the fried catfish with fries and coleslaw. It was deliciously light & flaky but so filling I only ate 1 filet. The coleslaw was the best I've ever had! Ever! And I don't normally eat/like hush puppies but I always try and thumbs up; different from what I've tried in years past. My husband had the chicken fried steak with okra & mashed potatoes which I got a 'it was good' response which really means... he ate all of it with no complaints. Lol very rare to get a 'fantastic' or 'delicious' outta him. There are no booths, which is my preferred dining experience but we're not here for the comfort! The table was a little wobbly but I didn't care, I love staring at the pie shelf while dining! Nicely country style decorum. Great food delivered quickly with a smile! prices are inline with the quality/quantity! Thank you! Happy New Year!

Upon arrival, we explained what had happened and asked if there was any way they had an opening. The host was incredibly understanding and sat us at their previously closed coffee bar. We were met by our waitress who was phenomenal- she got us a little candle and was honestly so engaging to talk to. The food was outstanding! So much so that I totally forgot to take a picture. My husband got a curried fish dish that was excellent. It had Smokey greens, black beans, and a full fish in a delicious curry sauce that I ended up mopping my fries in. I sprung for the burger that was so tall, my mouth could barely take a bite. The meat was juicy, and I cleared my plate. All of the cocktails were exceptional, and despite a rocky start to our night, the staff at Ronin managed to eventually find us a small table during an opening in reservations, which made it perfect for us. Ronin is farm to table and a huge supporter of local business which is a plus, not to mention their adorable restaurant is in a refurbished building, and the ambiance is exceptional for date nights. I would HIGHLY recommend Ronin to anyone headed to Downtown Bryan and thank you so much for turning our Valentine's Day around!

Also I love that the menu changes so regularly depending on what is in season. I was not very impressed by the food however. I got the sweet potato dish because it was the only vegetarian option. Out came a teeny tiny platter of 4 slices of sweet potato on a bed of greens. For $22 was really overpriced. Not only that but my grilled sweet potato was basically just burnt. My sister got the shrimp alfredo. It tasted good but again was a tiny portion.

So we did. First thing in the morning. Well, 7am when they opened. We were at the door and seated. Coffee arrived and not too long after, a fabulous breakfast. Mrs. K. loved her French Toast which was cooked properly and there was enough to go with us for snacking later. I demolished my breakfast. Uncle Hershel's with basted eggs, bacon, hashbrown casserole and Mrs. K. stole my fried apples. With the biscuits and jam to share, a fabulous meal. It had been ages since I had been, and now as a gluten-free eater, I imagined just country fried steak, biscuits, and green beans. And while they do have these things, I was so happy that they had a quite diverse menu that I ate from with delight. It's not an exaggeration that Cracker Barrel ended up as the highlight of the trip amongst an onslaught of travel issues. The gift shop one walks through to get to the dining area was stuffed with odd but interesting things, and the dining area itself was spacious and heavily decorated, with a large array of windows letting in some sunshine. Our waitress Elena was young, bubbly, and not to be found without a smile on her face. My steak was perfectly cooked, although with a small bite or two of tough gristle, and my chicken was soooo tender. The broccoli had a great crunch and wasn't soggy, the mashed potatoes were hearty and tasted great without a drop of gravy. Their house salad was shockingly good and almost a full meal despite being a side. I also had a nice mimosa. I was glad to have my opinion turned around.

First to arrive was a large amount of fried hushpuppies to nosh on and they were enjoyed. Within 10 minutes later the meal was delivered. 4 pieces of fried catfish fillets, a bowl of mashed potatoes with gravy and a decent sized serving of fried okra. It was a lot of food! I was surprised how large the catfish pieces were and they tasted very good being nicely battered and with plenty of meat. I can see why Vernon's is famous for their fried catfish.
