I was in town traveling for business and visited Cheddar's as it seemed busy over a period of a couple nights. Unfortunately for me and my friend, this experience was way below par. We got in with no wait at 9pm into the bar area. After that, we were informed by a person who brought our waters that it would be a minute because our waitress had to go to the bathroom. *How off putting is that?* After placing our order, we did not get our appetizer, received our meal but were missing 2 side orders, our roll, and then it took about 30 minutes to get a refill on water. Once the bills came, we gave our payments and the printer went down and it took almost 25 minutes to get the problem fixed. The assistant manager came over and did not explain the problem or have a solution for us. And I did not receive change at first for the money I used to pay our drink tab. Total time at the restaurant for the two of us was almost 2 1/2 hours and we only had one drink and an entree and a side dish each. Even worse was that the waitstaff and the manager did not seem to take any ownership over this horrible experience for us (or the 3 other tables that seemed to be impacted). Was in Huntsville on a Easter shopping trip and since we love Chedders so well and there's not one close to our home we decided to have dinner there. It took 20 mins to be seated and over half the rooms were empty. After being seated another 15 minutes before our waiter came. Upon getting food, my husbands ribs were over cooked hard and dry. The rice was not like it is everywhere we have ate before, it was not the vegetable rice, the southern green beans taste like they was straight out of the can. I would recommend that someone in management look into this restaurant, we have eaten in numerous Chedders and they were nothing like Huntsville. If we had not already eat at Chedders before Huntsville Chedders, I would not stop at another one. read more

Went at lunch today to celebrate a co-workers birthday and as soon as I walked in the first set of double doors I saw the health rating, an 81. My first instinct was to run since the passing grade is 85. My friends were already seated so I gave it a shot. Big mistake. When I opened my menu to make a selection, it was greasy, stained, and had some kind of syrupy water spots all over it. We split an order of chips and queso and the salsa was runny and there was barely enough chips to feed four. I ordered a chicken finger "basket" with fries, buffalo style and they were pretty good. Took a little long for them to arrive but our waiter was very nice and checked with us often, keeping our drinks filled. Managed to get out of there in under an hour, which is unusual, but instead of going to Target like I wanted to after, I had to make an immediate dash to my office and visit the restroom. To say I had an upset stomach would be an understatement. Normally this is a pretty good place. The lines are too long if you get there after 12pm, but they do give you a lot of food for the money. It's one of the few places in Huntsville you can get a Monte Christo, the "ham donut" a previous reviewer mentioned. It'll just be awhile before I go back. And good luck trying to find the nutritional information on any dish in there. read more

Went to Cheddar's for lunch and got the chicken and waffles. It was pretty good and filling. The chicken was nice, tender and huge. The waffle was moist and rather tasty. I was actually surprised at the flavor. I normally get the Philly cheese stake but I went with something new and I was not disappointed. read more

I wanted to like this place. I heard it was pretty good. After convincing my coworker, we went. I'm always suspicious when places are so dark, but there was a lot of food choices so I was happy. In CA every restaurant has an health department score (like A, B, C, etc.) posted by the health department. I rely on those as my body tends to be sensitive, but other states have no such thing. Visited there yesterday with my little brother. Food was decent, service was great (Akosua A), not an awesome value in price, but not bad, either. I noticed this morning that the amount I tipped was not included in the amount I was charged by the bank. Worried that they didn't include the amount I tipped our server, I called and asked to speak to a manager. I was on hold for 22 minutes and 42 seconds. 3 times someone answered and said "who are you on hold for?" I said "a manager, please." No reply. I finally hung up, but I hate that it wont be resolved because we had good service, and she deserves to be tipped the amount I left on my receipt. read more

First, let me say that we waited a ridiculously long time to be seated and served. When we were finally assisted to order, the service was wonderful. The food was great too! We thought they were just slow to seat people, but it turns out they'd had all kinds of complications from Machines going down to a staff member being injured and leaving via ambulance that day. This was the first time we have been back in a long time since last time they were unable to cook a steak medium in 3 attempts and I ended up eating a decent burger instead... This time we just went for appetizers and drinks. The drinks were good, but the service was poor (it took about 20 minutes to get our first round of drinks). I have had two not-so-great experiences with Cheddars, and a third lackluster experience from a close friend. The first time, my wife and I wanted to go here on my hour-long lunch break during the week. They gave us a buzzer and told us 20-30 min. wait. They actually buzzed us after 5 min. I thought, "Wow, that's great." They sat us down on the left side of the restaurant at a small table in the middle of a lot of traffic. We sat there for 10-15 min. The waiters/waitresses completely ignored us. Not even a drink order. We watched as some waitresses stood and casually had a conversation. Meanwhile we were not getting any service. We told the manager on the way out. The manager took down our address to send us complimentary gift cards in the mail. They never came. Next experience: Went to Cheddar's with work group as a going away party. We had a group of 10-16 people. The menu seemed a bit too common as far as it didn't seem to have any Cheddars-specific items that I couldn't find elsewhere. I ordered some common sandwich. The problem happened as we were getting our tickets. Everybody's ticket was wrong. If we ordered water, there was a drink charge. People with soft drinks, only had water (free). After leaving the tickets, the waitress was then gone for about 10 min. We had to sit and wait for her return to explain the problems, then sit and wait for them to ring us up. This unnecessary wait on the back end of our dining was annoying, especially because it was again during the weekday. Thirdly, a friend went to Cheddars with a group of less than 10 for his birthday at the end of Dec. They told him it would be a 3-hour wait. They waited so long, that they finally decided to just go to another restaurant in the area. I was just thinking, "No restaurant should tell anyone that it will be a 3-hour wait. That is just unacceptable." For all of the poor experiences above, I do not plan on going back to Cheddars at this location, unless someone else is paying. This is a complaint about service I recently received from Cheddar's Scratch Kitchen customer service on March 3, 2016. My party and I arrived around 11 am, there was not a hostess present to great us upon arrival. We were seated at approx. 1107 in the bar section in a booth. We sat at our table with our menus in front of us for over 15 minutes waiting to be greeted. The table behind us was seated after us and they had been greeted received their drinks and the server brought out their appetizer when I finally give up on waiting to be greeted. I stopped a manager, Ali Beth that was walking by and asked if we had a server to take care of us. Ms. Beth then got a server to take care of us. As the server walked away from Ms. Beth she said loud enough for me the customer to hear he tell the server to give our table an appetizer. The server came to our table apologized and said she did not realize she had our table. She then offered the appetizer as she was instructed. The table was not interested in an appetizer but I did ask for a side salad with my meal. My co-workers and I have an hour for our lunch break and 20 minutes of that time was already wasted. I also did not want it to delay the food on coming out. We placed our food orders at the same time we placed our drink order. We then waited another 35 minutes for our food to come out, 2 salmon plates and a chicken pot pie. At no point did Ms. Beth or any manager follow up with our table. It took an hour and a half to eat lunch at your establishment! I requested our bill and thought that maybe a percentage would have been taken off for our lack of service but that did not happen. When I asked the server if they were going compensate anything for our time I was told we were offered an appetizer. I replied we didn't order an appetizer I was then told that I had ordered a side salad. My time is worth a lot more than a $2.50 salad. Especially now that I had to make up a half an hour of work time. I worked in the food service industry and I am aware of what proper customer service should be. Your establishment lacks it from the front of the house, the back of the house and your manager. Needless to say, I was quite frustrated. I expected a much higher level of service from your company, and I am disappointed. I will not continue to speak about how highly I once thought of your establishment. A copy of this letter was emailed directly to the GM of the University Dr restaurant and it was also submitted online to Cheddar's customer service. I did not receive a reply from the GM nor an automated email from the corporate customer service VERY POOR CHEDDAR's! You have clearly shown on an individual restaurant level and the corporate level how little you care about you customers!!! Let me preface this by saying that living in Birmingham has made me quite the "food snob". I went from eating at Chilis and Applebees all the time, to trying to keep my dining experience as local and fresh as I can get it. As a matter of fact, I just had some Logan's on my last trip home and the food actually made me sick. Unlike all those other places, Cheddar's never does. It's the only "chain" restaurant that I still enjoy eating at and don't mind accompanying my family to. Everything I order is always so fresh, well prepared and a great value for the cost. I've never had a bad service experience and haven't every really waited that long, and the wait can be ridiculous but well worth it. In my opinion, this is the best option for someone that frequents chain restaurants. Just to speak to the quality of their food and service, we came on Father's Day during the peak of their lunch rush. Not once did we feel ignored or that our service was bad. My parents are often quite demanding and don't tip their servers very well. I was shocked to see that they not only tipped the service 20% but actually tipped 30%. This is huggeeee for my parents and really speaks to the quality of service that this place has to offer. This was my first time back since they removed the Chicken and Waffles from the menu. They have made a few changes to the menu and you can't beat their prices!! Our server, Whitney, was excellent. We are from out of town and this is the first time we ate at here. Everything was great. It was a cold night outside and inside the restaurant it was the perfect temperature. There was a lot of people waiting, however they got us seated in a short time. The waitress Bryaunna was incredible! She keep our drinks filled and made some wonderful suggestion for dinner. Ask for her area if you go there. Staff was very friendly and polite. Food came out quick and was I incredible. I had the white fish and my wife had the salmon with bourbon sauce. Excellent ! I've heard many good things about this restaurant, so I decided to give it a try. Our waitress was fun, & a little silly but she was very forgetful. We came in at about 9 p.m. And they didn't close till 11. There weren't very many tables, I'd say about 8 that I could see in the whole restaurant. Our server came and immediately started recommending items for appetizers and drinks, which is fine but she kept going after I asked her for a few minutes to look over the menu. Within a minute she was back with the same tactics. I decided to order a drink and an appetizer. The appetizer came out and she asked when it hit the table if I had decided on a drink, I told her that I ordered a drink with the appetizer and she had repeated it to me. She apologized and went to get the beverage. We then ordered our food. I got the veggie plate with a salad and my date got the mushroom chicken. About 10 minutes later she brought our food which was 3 veggies on my plate instead of four and a delicious looking mushroom chicken on my date's plate. I asked if I still got the salad, and she apologized and told me she would have it right out. About five minutes later she came back out with a salad and apologized because the side item that I had ordered that would have made up my 4th was no longer available for the night. I ordered another side item which was no problem, but it took till the end of the meal to get there. The mushroom chicken that date had was absolutely delicious but the vegetables on my vegetable plate with lukewarm at best. I would describe them as room temperature. We ordered another drink when the food hit the table the first time and when she brought the last of my side items many minutes later she asked if I had decided on a drink, at which point I told her that I had already ordered it and ask her if she forgot. She admitted that she had again and went to get the beverage. Overall I had expected a little bit better of an experience, maybe a drink when I ordered it, maybe some warm food at the least? I would have said something to manager but there were none in sight and none came by the table, it wasn't worth asking her to go get one because I was so hungry I ate the food anyway. I'm giving this review with a two star rating because the mushroom chicken was delicious, too bad it wasn't mine. read more

In spite of the tremendous line and the 30 minute wait, I thought Cheddar's was pretty good. The wait staff were friendly and efficient. The prices seemed more than reasonable, particularly given the portion size. My companion and I both chose the Spagna. Served with a slice of garlic bread. The Spagna is a huge mound of cheese and noodles topped with either marinara or meat sauce. Since both of us are carnivores, we chose the meat sauce. It was seasoned well with large chunks of onions. Quite tasty. I would absolutely try it again, there were several other menu options that were interesting, but I will probably wait until it is slightly less popular so we won't have to wait so long... read more

We stopped in here around 5pm after driving all day and skipping lunch. We waited for someone to acknowledge us and after 5 minutes the hostess finally stopped talking to another coworker and addressed us with irritation. They seated another couple in the dining room and then the hostess told us we wouldn't be seated for at least 20-30 minutes but we could sit in the bar. We expected that she was going to show us to the table in the bar but she just stood there yacking it up with a coworker and after a few minutes we went and sat at an open bar table only to be ignored and finally told we should be seated at the bar. We sat at the bar for no less than 10 minutes watching a young woman mix up bulk batches of margaritas in big containers. She gave us menus when she finished and asked us who was waiting on us. No one. We should have walked out. A new person came behind the bar, mixing drinks and she took our order. There was no help at all. Food was barely edible and the hot food was served cold. We ate and left so disappointed. Apathy seems to be the only quality necessary to land a job in this place because no one was in charge and customer satisfaction is not a quality they strive toward. As we pulled out of the parking lot there was a clutch of employees outside behind the restaurant smoking and hanging out. I went to the Cheddar's in Newport News, Virginia about 20 years ago and it was really good so I was excited that one was opening here but I have to say this place is just awful! Food and service were very bad. We were given the check while we were still eating which is freaking rude! I tried to get our servers attention without success even though she was standing right in front of us! Our table was filthy which I brought to the server's attention and she almost had a fit because I asked her to wipe it off! This place really sucks!
