My mother and I had to come to town for some unfortunate family business and were staying at the Staybridge Hotel which was walking distance from this location though there are no sidewalks so I would recommend driving! Do not walk, itson amain road! We were told that everything was made from "scratch" so assumed it was a Farm to fork restaurant but it wasn't!!! It was a chain restaurant with pre portioned foods, subpar drinks, and sporadic service. We did have an interesting server though, Kelsey and her 45 pens, always came to our table with a smile. If you are looking for comfort food at a decent price ($8-14 an entree) then this is the place for you. I ordered a salad which was about two and a half portions but it was green and tasty The sides are a bit ridiculous...canned green beans are no bueno but again, if you are looking for affordable comfort food. To sum it up: waitress didn't know the menu, food all came out at the same time, refused to make change for us. So basically, same thing everyone else is saying. Fast forward to last week: I'm desperate for a job. I waitressed for 6 years and needed some easy money. So I deleted that review, I didn't want them to see that! Why I decided on this place I'll never know. I could only stand being there for a lunch shift. I was told not to check on tables, put food in immediately (even if apps and salads haven't gone out) and in general: I was left to figure everything out for myself. I haven't been to Cheddar's in sometime. It had been my favorite casual restaurant up until yesterday . My sister was visiting from out of state and has never been to a Cheddar's. We were there when they opened, not at all busy. Some of the food wasn't hot, even though the plates were. I ordered southern green beans and couldn't taste any seasoning not even salt or pepper. They looked like they were sitting in a bowl of water. My sister ordered steak which was grizzly and not cooked to order. The waitress OFFERED steak sauce to my sister then never brought it. We had to ask for it. Not once were we offered refills on our beverages, not even water. She forgot the dessert I had asked her to surprise my grandson with. When we told her nevermind she recommended another restaurant to get dessert. Against my advise my sister still tipped 20%. Food during visit wasn't bad. Everything else during our visit needed improvement. With our initial table we discovered ants and let our waitress know. She then went to notify the manager. When she returned she offered to swap our table. There was never an apology for the pests or inconvenience of having to move and management never made an effort to address our table after this. They then sat another group at our same table with the ants. After the move we didn't see the waitress again until she brought the check. I had to wait the entire meal for my drink that was ordered before the table swap. And then when it came I had to finish it quickly as everyone was done and our meal was paid for. During our meal a table next to us broke a glass as they were leaving. several staff entered the area in the 20 minutes between then and when we left, the only effort to clean the glass and liquid on the ground was to place a floor is wet sign resulting in not only a danger of falling but also possibly getting cut on glass. Over all it was very apparent that they were severely understaffed for a holiday that is known for going out to eat (Mother's Day), and management wasn't making any apparent efforts to help staff or customers. read more

I ate fish tacos and drank the pain killer. The fish was crisp and fresh and I had the steamed broccoli as a side. The service was fast and correct each time. Our server Ashley was so sweet- and thoughtful. We will definitely return since I saw numerous items on the menu worth a trip back. Absolutely awful experience. Went with a large group (about 20 ppl, which, I understand can already be a challenge). We called earlier in the week to confirm for Thursday night, and they weren't too busy. 6:15pm my husband and I walk in and everyone is already there and seated. Timeline goes on from there: 6:45: we finally order food 8:00pm: the first of the food finally comes out (everyone still waited about 10-15 more minutes for their food). 9:00pm: the last check isn't even complete, about 6-8 of the checks just arrived, one to-go order of TWO sweet croissants still hadn't arrived. We should have left when we got seated and was ignored for 20 mins before our waitress finally showed up. She promised they had big servings and their food was amazing so we decided to give it a shot in hopes the service would be better. Alas, we were wrong. My chicken sandwich itself looked big, but when taken apart it was 50% shredded lettuce, and a sad little grilled patty. The broccoli had a great deal of garlic on it--not really my thing. My parents had talked this place up big, as we have a Cheddar's in Louisiana where I'm from. We decided to come here for lunch one day and I was blown away! Our waitress was really nice and super helpful explaining the menu to me. We order the spinach dip to start and we stuffed ourselves with it! It also came with their homemade salsa and that was good! If I could give 0 stars I would in a heartbeat. My husband and I took both our moms out to eat for Mother's Day at the Jacksonville, NC location. I was highly ticked off by the hostess staff. Upon arriving at the location, I myself walked to the hostess stand asked what the wait time was for a party of 7 (6 adults and 1 child), I was told by the main hostess "5 minutes". Great! I gave her my name and proceeded to sit down while waiting for my "5" minutes. Granted I do understand it may take a few extra minutes longer to be seated but after 45 minutes "nice and understanding left me". After sitting waiting for our table to be ready 2 separate groups walked in with about the same amount of people in their group (6-7 people each) and ASKED FOR WAIT TIME FOR GROUP OF 6-7 PEOPLE did not say they were on the wait list for and checking their status just walked off the street and wanted to be seated. The hostess and so-called "front-end manager" allowed BOTH parties to be seated immediately. Mind you my group had already been sitting for over 10-15 minutes at this point. Around the 30 minute mark was told "your table is being packed up now by the previous customers and we can sit you shortly" another 15 minutes goes by and I get up to ask about said table and was told they can't make anyone leave (ok fine I understand that but you gave our table away TWICE). Then I was told "we can set your party at 2 different booths" um excuse me WE came together we EAT together. The hostess and "manager" both got an attitude and I even had to mention the fact that I was pregnant and very dissatisfied by both their behaviors. My husband called another restaurant who told us 25-35 minute wait and we went to a different restaurant and was seated within less than 30 minutes. After this trip to Cheddar's in Jacksonville, NC and being disgusted not once but twice they will never get another penny of our money. The last time we went half of the food was cold and was replaced twice STILL COLD. Will NEVER visit the Jacksonville, NC location ever again. read more

We went to Cheddar's tonight because we wanted something light and heard that they had some good, low calorie dishes. I'm happy to say that we weren't disappointed! My husband had the Sweet Heat Chicken and Shrimp with unsweetened tea. I had the Citrus Miso Grilled Salmon with a light salad instead of broccoli and the Cheddar's Painkiller cocktail. My husband cleaned his plate as did I. My salmon was cooked perfectly and the salad was the perfect compliment to it. My drink was really good, but I can see why there is a two-drink maximum when you order it. :) Our server was Shannon. She was knowledgeable about the menu. In fact, she recommended the Painkiller when I told her I really liked citrus drinks. If you go we can highly recommend her as a server. We were seated almost immediately upon walking in which was great! Our waitress was fabulous knowing the special dishes , drinks on tap, and her suggestions on appetizers as well as dinner. We ordered our appetizers and food which came out separately and timed just right ! The food was served hot and well plated. The beer which was Blue Moon was on special so that was a perk. It's very nice inside this restaurant with the fan ceiling fan that reminds me of Australia. It's dim and nice should you want a nice romantic dinner later in the evening and I stress much later in the evening.....Why? While we enjoyed our dinner and drinks here with the exception of a small child having an extreme melt down and parents who thought it was cute. Meanwhile patrons turning around , glaring and giving stink eyes. Needless to say we made the dinner short and sweet to get out before having a headache from the screams. In a city full of mediocre restaurants...there is Cheddars. Yes, I know it's a chain restaurant. But the service is awesome and the food is flipping great. They have tons of choices. I got a mango sweet tea which was so good. Spinach dip super yummy. They have a pick 2 for lunch where you can get a soup, salad and or sandwich. It's better than homemade. I took home a ton of left overs and had them them for dinner. Their prices can't be beat. And the atmosphere is so nice. It reminds me of southern restaurants back home. Love love this place. I wish I had taken a picture, but I was so hungry, I had to eat it anyway... I ordered a salmon Caesar salad here because I'm staying at the hotel next door. Got back to my room and it looked like they split the salmon filet to only give me half... thought to myself, "Oh well, I'm not that hungry, maybe it was just a small filet." but one entire side of it was gray meaning that's the line where it was split from the rest of the fish. They gave me half instead of a full filet of salmon on purpose. Also... no croutons? There are only 4 things in a Caesar salad (unless it's fancy with anchovies): 1. Romaine lettuce 2. Parmesan 3. Dressing 4. Croutons Not hard to put 4 things together. All the food was deliciously incredible and made from scratch - including the sides. Drinks were good, but pretty basic (nothing to write home about but not bad at all!). We've driven by Cheddars many times but this was our first time at one. We had heard that they were good and scratch made dishes. Of course when we met our server he explained the restaurant to us. We finally decided on chicken fingers and chicken pot pie. My chicken pot pie came with a salad that we decided to share - - it was so large that if I had eaten it by myself, I would not have been able to have my chicken pot pie. The salad was refreshing!!! My pot pie was fantastic - - all I could think about how great it would have been to have this pot pie after cutting down a Christmas Tree. My wife loved her chicken tenders - - crunchy & juicy. I had the lemon pepper white fish with the delicious broccoli and potatoes. My husband had the bourbon salmon which was fantastic. My son had the chicken fingers and they were crunchy and tender.
