While traveling for business I was looking for a sit down place that has some good low calorie options. Well, I found one that has many opportunities to eat as healthy as you'd like. I have eaten at Cheddar's before but typically not watching what I was eating. They have a vast menu of quality downhome options. As I'm on a health journey, this will focus on their healthier options. The restaurant itself is in a busy part of Kingsport that has many restaurants of different kinds. It was clean and well laid out. There was ample parking and it was easy to get to. The service was good, as the waitress was attentive and checked on me regularly. She brought out the honey buttered croissant and was able to make recommendations. As for the food, there was several healthy options. A couple types of chicken, sirloin steaks, and fish options (salmon and white fish). I chose the Lemon Pepper chicken breast with rice and carrots and green beans as the side. The chicken was very good and flavorful. There were 2 breasts included so it was nice and filling. The rice was just enough to supplement the chicken with a little bit of carbs. The carrots were tender but lacked flavor. The green beans were average. Overall, this location was clean and friendly and had some healthy options to allow health conscious patrons some options. Hosts were amazing. Our waitress was nice. The issues are with the training and knowledge of everyone in the restaurant. I ordered and told my waitress that I needed gluten free. (I ordered off the GF menu) when the food was brought out there was a cup of sauce on the plate. I asked what it was. She said it is bourbon glaze. I questioned her on if this was GF bc it was not listed as GF. I was told by her and another man that helped her carry out our food "I think so." I asked that they make sure because to my knowledge nothing with bourbon is GF. She walked back to the kitchen and came back and said, "I just asked the kitchen manager and he said, "It is gluten free." I really didn't trust it bc there was clearly a lack of training. I asked for the ingredient list for the glaze she goes back to the kitchen. While she was in the kitchen I pulled their GF stuff up and it wasn't there. Within the menu online it clearly stated "gluten sensitive served without bourbon glaze." So, when she came back and to tell me again it was GF and the kitchen manager told her it was safe. I told her that the glaze was not GF and was listed online as it was not GF. She was like yes it is I asked twice. I then asked for a manager bc I know it is a lack of training and it is a very serious issue. If I would have eaten it I would have had a bad allergic reaction. She teas like I just asked him. So I said "Please I'm asking you to ask the Manager to come out." It took forever for the manager to finally come out. When one of the people I was with said it is taking him forever to come out. I said, " he is probably back there brushing up on the ingredients before he comes out so he knows what he is talking about." When he finally came out that was confirmed. He told me that he was sorry bc they told me wrong and that it isn't GF. I told him that he needed to do better at training the staff bc it isn't a waitress issue at this point it is a management issue bc the training isn't in place and if I didn't know what I was talking about I would have ended up with an allergic reaction that could have sent me to the ER. Giving someone with an allergy to Gluten can KILL them. I share this story for my other allergy people to triple check and if you have a gut feeling you need to sit there and research before partaking in the food. I did tell the waitress that it wasn't her fault that they didn't train her for this. My brother who is a manger and has taken the safe serving class told her to never take her managers word for it to always make them come out to talk to the person so if this was to happen and the person was to eat it she wouldn't be at fault. We ordered pick up from here last night, my wife ordered shrimp Alfredo which she said was ju ok, because she said it had too much Alfredo sauce I ordered the 1/2 rack dry rub ribs and grilled shrimp. This is the 1st time I've ordered this at this location and will be the last time The grilled shrimp was excellent but the 1/2 rack of ribs was the worst I've ever eaten They were extremely greasy, lots of grissell and fat I've ordered this same dish in Knoxville several times and never had this type of issue. The old reviews might be pretty rough, but we stopped here anyway and was pleasantly surprised. We eat at other Cheddars often and know what good food from a Cheddars is like. Everything here was spot on. Crispy hot chicken tenders, hot flakey croissant, fresh salad, chocolate cake, everything was great. The service was great too. Very friendly and we had someone checking on us frequently. Give this place a shot, I think they deserve a higher rating than the old scores add up to. read more

I would have given more stars if after having a hair in my food they would have comped my meal but per the receipt they did then charged me again. I assume it was the manger that delivered my 2nd meal and just said sorry about that. As a former restaurant manager , I would have comped the meal as an apology. My fiance orders the food and picks it up curbside to go 15-20 min max, brings it in we notice 1 order of chicken BBQ was missing and my fries that came wth my sampler should had been covered in q Cheese & bacon bits. They were just regular tho. I called the restaurant to get transfered to 'the manager' and was on hold a good 7-8 min wth no answer. I hang up and will call back after i eat. I get it when you work in the service industry everyone on the team is really busy and phone calls are the last thing you can grab. I eat then called back to get the manager whom has 0 people skills. The food was really good. I had the chicken salad with candied pecans and ranch dressing. Everything was fresh and the portion was perfect. My husband had the steak which he also enjoyed. We also received some croissants with a melted sweet cinnamon butter, I think. It was delicious. There was no hostess when we entered, and waited for a few minutes before someone finally came to the front and seated us. The hostess also seated 2 more tables and I believe never told the waitress. We got a little upset because we were waited on last, again not the waitress's fault. They did make it right and we appreciate that. I loved the look of the restaurant. Im giving this place MINUS ONE STAR for the worst customer service. Our table was absolutely disgusting we asked the Waiter and she came and handed us a dirty rag and asked that we clean it. This is so unprofessional to ask a guest to clean their own table, our table was sticky, pepper was all over the table & se it was so disgusting, This place needs serious management.... We arrived at 8:30pm and all of the staff was focused on closing up the restaurant as it was fairly empty inside on a Friday night. Not necessarily a good sign. I asked the waitress for the chicken sandwich from the lunch menu only to be told that it was not offered for dinner. I explained that the other local Cheddars in Johnson City, Bristol and Pigeon Forge allowed me to order it at a slightly higher price which I was fine with. The waitress claimed to have asked the manager and was told "it didn't matter what the other Cheddars did but the answer was no." I was so annoyed I told the waitress I didn't want anything else and would get food elsewhere when my friend finished his dinner. You would think the manager would have come over to see if there was something that could be done. Items included that were asked to be removed while other items wanted were removed. No condiments provided for burger and fries. Bacon cheeseburger - very plain. Basic. Lemon pepper chicken - had two bites, no thanks. Loaded potato, was not that. Just provided cheese and sour cream. Last time I checked, loaded also included bacon bits and chives. Just ate at this restaurant for the first time. We were traveling from West Virginia to Georgia. My husband had the Chicken Pot Pie and house salad. I had the Tilapia and Shrimp. I will never go to Cheddars in Kingsport, Tn on Eastman Dr. !!!! They are rude and cannot cook a Ribeye Steak to save their lives. If you order a Ribeye medium rare, would you expect to cut into it and the fat is still quite solid like never having been on any heat and the outside of the Ribeye slightly grayish and inside bleeding like you just sliced into an artery??? I think not!!!! They made me another steak and brought it out looking the same way!!!!! I always love going to Cheddar's and when my aunt treats me it's always a trip-and-a-half! My mouth waters and then drools over the anticipation of the beyond delicious honey buttered croissant and the Santa Fe Spinach Dip! For the entreé, I got the Grilled Chicken Alfredo with Penné instead of the fettuccini. Broccoli and carrots were also added to the dish. Are your taste buds craving it yet? Oh, yum! Yum! Yum! I can hardly wait to go back and sample other item in their arsenil! It was supposed to come with a garlic roll, but I didn't get it. I ain't mad at them for that little thing, however, since it was our lovely servers fault for forgetting such a small little thing, I asked her to substitute the honey buttered croissant. No problem! We had not been back for 8 years after a bad experience but decided to give it another shot. Won't make that mistake again! Table was sticky. Ordered the spinach dip which we always loved. It came out as liquid, cold. Honestly it wasn't a dip it was like 1/4 cup of colored water and a bunch of spinach. It wasn't cheesy, it was cold soup! My better half ordered a salad with blue cheese dressing. It came out with 1000 island. She finally got what they were claiming was blue cheese but was mayonnaise with a few blue cheese crumbles and so nasty! Waiter forgot to put I wanted cheese on my burger so they sent it back, 5 minutes later came out with a cold piece of cheese on it. The bun was so bready could not taste the burger. The burger itself- well I grabbed some of that 1000 island and put on the bottom to add a little flavor to it. Removed that big bread top of the bun and just dealt with it. For dessert we had Alia-Seltzer and prayers we would not get sick. read more

Then couldn't sit and order at the bar, even though there were a few patrons sitting at "non-bar" tables 10 feet away. Strike 2. Then AFTER finally ordering my takeout order, the guy asks me "what color car will you be in"? Told him I'd wait, maybe at one of the tables, have a drink while I wait. This was one of THE best experiences I have had in a very long time, and my family and I really loved this restaurant visit. We had the best service from a lovely young woman named Hope, and one can only we receive her again when we visit again ! Not only did we receive phenomenal service from Miss Hope, service was great from the time I ran in to check to see if there was a wait time, which there wasn't by the way. I must say the ambiance was very nice, even down to the live plants that looked well manicured. As I mentioned before that it was myself and my family that had a such a wonderful time, of course my 2 year old son had to use the restroom , however, the women's bathroom had a line; so we were not able to see if the cleanliness of the dining area extended to the ladies room. The food was so delicious! Honestly, I can go on and on, but there isn't enough space. All in all, we will be back to experience such great service again soon! Went for lunch after an 11:00 am church service with a group of ten. We're among the first to be seated. They assembled the table quickly. The waitress was friendly and efficient. My food and the food of my neighbor (cheese bites and pot pie was very salty. Others in the party seemed to like their food. The major complaint isms that grease was spilled on the floor by the table and the floor was slippery as ice. The floors of the restrooms (both men's and womens) were also very slippery. The food is good; we always enjoy the food. However, getting a table is nearly impossible. I usually go with my family, including my father, who cannot sit in a booth due to a physical limitation with his hip. When we ask for a table, we're nearly always told there will be at least a 30-40 minute wait--either that or "we're not sure." It's gotten to the point that we rarely go there because of this. This happened again today and there were empty tables within sight of the front door. I understand that this can be a staffing issue, so: please either get more tables or accommodation for disabled guests; or hire more staff. read more

It's not that this place is bad it's just that it's really nothing above average. We arrived with a party of 15 and had to wait a bit for seating. Nothing unexpected about that. We were seated and our waitress got our drinks. Once we ordered our food the wait was on. We waited over an hour for our food. Still, I chalked it up to the party of 15. I ordered the blackened salmon with mac n cheese and a loaded potato. The salmon was cooked right but it just wasn't anything to talk about in the taste department. In any place that type of behavior is not welcome especially in a family restaurant. Mind you my daughter is 17 years old as well. Food has been an issue before at this restaurant but this kinda action is ridiculous. If my husband was with me I'm sure there would've been an issue. People beware in bringing you daughters there. In years past I've been a fan of Cheddar's. Our last few meals have been extremely blah, including this one. It is one of the last places I will pick to eat in Kingsport now sadly because I love the location and the atmosphere inside is really very inviting. The quality of the menu has gone so far downhill. 2 of the last 3 dishes I ordered, items were prepared so differently that I questioned myself about the order. Casual dining on the level of O'Charley's or Applebee's. The atmosphere is great. The service is friendly and fast. Although the parking lot looked nearly full when we pulled in, we were seated immediately. They were very busy, but our food came quickly. Portion size is average, but not overpriced. If you want an inexpensive meal, order the chicken tender appetizer. It comes with fries. The broccoli cheese casserole side is highly recommended. All of our food was very tasty. If there was a Cheddar's at home, we would probably eat there often. read more
