My son and I were passing through Roanoke and saw that Cheddar's parking lot was almost full of cars, so we decided to give it a try. This was my first visit at any Cheddar's restaurant, and likely my last. The service was very good but the food was not at all impressive. I ordered their baby back ribs and my son ordered a quarter of chicken, so we split our orders in order to each try both entree's. Neither of us were impressed with either dish. In both cases the meat was a bit tough and didn't have a good flavor. I also got broccoli and it was cooked to mush. My son's Mac & Cheese was not very good either. Cheddar's does have a full bar, but since we were driving we didn't partake. As we were paying our bill, which was very reasonable but I guess you get what you pay for, the manager came to our table and gave us a bag with two chocolate chip cookies since this was our first visit at Cheddar's. Even the cookies weren't good. We each took one bite and didn't eat the rest. I am amazed that the restaurant was full and there were a number of people waiting to be seated by the time we left. Our food (fish tacos and monte cristo) were both superb, and those FRIES are so good. We sat at the bar and had a great view of the aquarium tank. My drink (Georgia Moonshine Punch) was HUGE, heavy on the fruit and even heavier on the liquor, which is a delicious combination. The bartender was very speedy, and this place is super affordable, we couldn't believe what a deal it was ($30 for 2 entrees, 2 cocktails). We will be back! read more

Decided to take the family out for dinner, thought you can't go wrong with cheddars. Boy was I right, food was good, our waiter was awesome !! and the food was great. I had the chicken pot pie and I can get enough of it . You can add a salad for 2.50 extra and they have great kid options. Want a low cost, great atmosphere restaurant. You found it. I drove over an hour to eat here. Both the service and food was very disappointing. They got our order wrong. The top sirloins looked like cube steak .I really think they ran out of top sirloins and gave us the meat they use for the chicken fried steak. Left ordered sides off. One baked potato had a black spot and was over cooked. The Ceasar salad had little to no dressing on it, may as well have just given us a bowl of lettuce. I sat for over 15 with an empty glass. And when the check came, after waiting for it for 20 minutes, there was an appetizer added to my bill that wasn't ordered. I hope for everyone else's sake, we just went on a bad night. If not this place will not be in business long. On a positive note we sat at the bar while waiting for our table. Meal was OK nothing to brag about. I had chicken fried steak. The customer service here though was horrible. My waitress was probably one of the worst I've had in awhile. No personality and rarely came back to the table. All the while a hostess with the restaurant was at the table behind ours talking about how she didn't want to work tonight because she wanted to get drunk. After reading the reviews I thought this would be a good place to get takeout since I was traveling for business. It was a simple order the barbecue burger medium rare, a loaded bake potato and a side of broccoli. I picked up the order at the bar and brought it back to my hotel. To be frank, the burger was over cooked and extremely salty. The loaded baked potato was a plain potato that had been microwaved to the point of being dry with a small container of sour cream. My broccoli had been over steamed and amounted to a very small portion. How any one can claim that this is a quality restaurant has apparently never had to suffer through a take out experience. If you're staying in the area better ask some one at your hotel for recommendation. Yuk! read more

Chips with salsa and queso was fantasti! Everything else merely passable. Steak-n-cheese was so salty I could barely eat half. My husbands chicken fried steak breading was greasy and tasteless but the meat wasn't bad. My son had a steak which he liked. read more

So I went in there to eat with my son who is seven years old. We waited quite a while to get a table which is understandable because they're always so busy. After our food was sat on the table the server never came back to check on us. We went to the restroom because he seven and he had to go, I placed the napkins thinking they would know that we were in the restroom. I came back to the Buser putting our food in the Bus pan. Unfortunately we had only ate about a quarter of a meal. Once she realized that we were back to the table to eat she starts to take our food out of the bus pay it and place it back on the table for us to eat. I thought that was extremely disgusting. She had placed our food in a bus stop with other trash and God knows what!! The server finally comes over to check on us because another server intervened. I explain to her what it happened, she said she would go talk to the manager. Our server returns to tell me that they're going to start to cook our meals over. At this point we have been in the restaurant for two hours! With a seven-year-old! The server at the end of our meal only offered a dessert as compensation. I am a server myself and can't believe that the manager never came to say anything in apology. My staff would have been horrified and replace the meal for free. read more

Cheddar's, what has happened to you? Cheddar's used to be my jam when I went visited Roanoke because the food was yummy and huge portions; however, Cheddar's has apparently drastically changed the way they do things. Instead of having a vast menu with a lot of comfort food options, they have now downsized their menu and gotten rid of a lot of favorites. I asked the waitress what happened to the chicken and waffles and was informed that Cheddar's was now a "scratch cafe," meaning they made things from scratch. Well, I'm glad that they can tell themselves that but I know the french fries I was served were frozen and that the Texas toast that accompanied my fiancee's meal was not made from scratch. Anyways, the food is now no better than an Applebee's. In fact, an Applebee's may have more variety. I ended up ordering just chicken tenders and fries because I was so disappointed in the changes. My meal also came with mac and cheese, which was cold. My fiancee, who also loved Cheddar's, was greatly disappointed. It's sad that Cheddar's had to change so much, good things never do last too long. read more

My husband and I were in on Sunday for lunch. The service was extremely poor. We waited 10 minutes just to be able to get someone to ask us if we needed help. The young women brought us beverages and took our order. We never were offered any refills and once she brought our food out she was not to be seen again until she drop the check off. The food was great , the place was clean and you had plenty of staff working and it was not busy at all . The service on the other hand was terrible. I am usually leery of chain places, but was pleasantly surprised at this place. We went on a Wednesday at around noon, got right in. Our server was very nice. One of the people at our table ordered the ribs, and I swear, they may be the best I have ever had. I ordered a steak and it was very nice too. I plan on going back for the ribs soon. He got a full slab and took half home for dinner that night. I plan on doing the same. Also, I loved the nice clean fish tank. It might inspire me to set up mine again. The upscale decor sets up a level of expectation this restaurant does not deliver. The portions are reasonable for the price. The decor is nice and the restaurant clean. Some staff are enthusiastic, others not so much. The menu is packed with high calorie high fat entrees with a mediocre taste at best. It may be home cooked, but nowhere close to Mom's good home cooking. I'd put the food on par with buffet or cafeteria food in terms of quality and temperature. I'd give this a 2 1/2 stars. read more

Great food and even better service! I wanted something light, but I'm always skeptical of ordering from the lighter menu because the food can be so bland. However, I ordered the Sweet Heat Chicken and Shrimp and it was delicious!! The food is very reasonably priced, and everything is made from scratch! And I loved the mini desserts served in shot glasses for $1.49 - the key lime was heavenly!!! My husband and I were visiting the area for the first time, and our waitress, Jessica, provided several options for things to do in the area. She was awesome. I've had Cheddars in other states so I was happy to see one here. I've been 4 times and everytime has been a wash. First time took forever, wrong order, bad service. Chalked it up to new restaurant. Second visit appetizer came after meal and they forgot to bring salad, then charged for order I did't get, bad service but busy lunch hour. Third time was worst! Not busy, ordered waited 30 minutes. Server said he forgot to place order. I left and on way out complained to manager. He asked me to wait 10-15 minutes and he would get me another table and waiter. Last time had rude server who never returned to table after meal was brought. We wanted to order more drinks but he disappeared. I'm sure the food is always good because its a chain with good food. I went to cheddars because my mother in law kept telling me how great it was. Well the first time I went I ordered a chicken sandwich. My chicken sandwich was incorrect. (I asked for not onions, etc), so I sent it back. When theybrought it back there was a hair in my food. Finally the sandwich was correct. Our waitor charged the sandwich to our bill so we paid for it. When the manager found out, she gave me a free meal gift card. I decided to use the card last weekend. My mom and I went to lunch and I ordered the same chicken sandwich. Once again there was a hair on the cheese on top of the chicken. I sent the sandwich back and ate nothing. The manager gave us a 99 cent dessert free. I will not be returning. read more

Food is actually good. You get a lot for what you pay for . Service isn't bad either . The place is typically really busy so be prepared to wait. I sat at the bar though so I was taken care of pretty fast. I will have to mention that there is one server that is very sweaty though. It's pretty unappealing when he has sweat dripping from his forehead. Kind of took my appetite. Overall the experience was great and I would recommend. Great priced drinks too ! read more

Horrible!!! I have been to the place 4 times just hoping that maybe it will get better. This past time was the last time I will ever eat at this Cheddars. There were 5 people in my party. We ordered 2 appetizers and each appetizer came out with a problem. Then our food came out (quicker than times past as it normally takes WAY too long) and EVERY one of our entrees had a problem. We complained and the server brought the manager. The manager took care of my nieces chicken tenders (2 of the four tenders had NO mean and was only breading). The manager came back and asked what else was wrong. We proceeded to tell him all the problems with the food at the entire table. We were all really upset at this point. The manager offered my brother's food to him for free and did nothing for the other 3 meals at the table and was making excuses for changes that have been taking place in the kitchen and with the wait staff. Also changes coming from corporate, etc. Not an apology, excuses. i ordered the dijon chicken and mushrooms. The chicken appeared much smaller than it used to be, dry, and there were literally only TWO button mushrooms. The manager stated that corporate has said they are only supposed to give a weighted amount of mushrooms and that my two mushrooms met that weight. The chicken was bone dry and he didn't address that at all when I told him. He stated that the kitchen was being too generous when they first opened and that they are not cooking things appropriately according to corporate. That same night I was so upset with the service and poor food quality that I wrote corporate a long email detailing all of my problems and specifically what happened. I never received a response demonstrating to me how little they care about customers. I have eaten at the Cheddar's in Norfolk, Bristol, TN, and the one outside of Savannah, GA. Had incredible experiences at all of them and would love to go back. The one in Roanoke is HORRIBLE and the staff do not care. They take forever, change things on the menu without notice, and make excuses for mistakes. This is honestly the worst managed restaurant I've been to in Roanoke and have been eating in Roanoke for 30 years. I will never go back! read more

I went to Cheddar's on 12/04/2011. I went to thier website that night and left a complaint. Two weeks later and Cheddar's has never responded. For one in our party of 3 their steak came well done and cold. The manager on duty accused her of not knowing what she wanted and did she not know her steak should have been pink inside. Problem was she ordered her steak and made sure the waitress knew she wanted a med well steak with pink inside. To corect this they regrilled the same overcooked steak again. One person ordered a appitizer of chicken strips and when the bill come they were charged for the meal. I ordered appitizer of nachos and what came to the table was not at all as on the menu. All of the food was room temperature. The croissants came out totally dough 2 times. When I told the manager this was my first visit and I did not think I would be back she said she was having problems with her employees getting the food out and her bread proofer was not working. I told her it would have been better to have not sent it out at all, and it should not be my problem if she is having problems with her staff. There were several wait staff watching a ballgame at the bar and being loud. The wait staff broke a glass and a bear bottle in the bar area. We were sitting at a booth across from the bar. The manager said she would give us a discount. She took off the charge for the steak. Myself and the other diner did not get a discount. The chicken strip charge was corrected.
