Was craving skewers and found this place in our area. Found out they have a happy hour as well from Tues-Thurs 3PM-close and Fri-Sun 3PM-6PM. The happy hour menu is good value, having different tier items ranging from $1, $3, $6, and $9. Pork Belly Yakitori definitely ranked as one of the best items also being priced at only $1/skewer. Also enjoyed the chicken heart too but this was just off the regular menu. Cheese corn tasted great but I think I'd only get it at the happy hour price since its normal price at $7.95 just feels a bit steep. Takoyaki was just ok. Flavor was there but really didn't feel fluffy like takoyaki is supposed to be. Overall, this was a pretty decent skewer option for the area. Ended up coming back multiple times with food quality being consistent and it never being too crowded on any given day of the week. read more

Decided to stop here for a late lunch/early dinner with my family on the way home from Big Bear. It was pretty empty and they had Happy Hour despite being New Year's Day. You scan a QR code for the menu and you fill out a giant sheet with a pencil to place your order. The waitress was super quick with bringing waters, utensils, and with taking our order. We ordered a lot of food, but it all came at different times, which was nice since we barely had space on the table. All the food was nice and fresh, but my only complaint is almost everything had some kind of sweet sauce on it: grilled rice cakes, grilled quail eggs, grilled chicken skin (that we don't remember ordering but the waitress insisted we did; we never got to see our order forms again), tornado potatoes, peeled and whole shrimp on a stick, pork belly on a stick, chicken thigh on a stick, etc. It didn't taste bad, but it was a flavor you could get tired of. The only thing that wasn't really sweet was probably the wings and my nieces tonkatsu hot pot. When the waitress said she brought everything out, we were still missing three items that we had to ask for. No big deal. We'd definitely be back, especially for the happy hour menu. My buddy took me here for happy hour and it was the best. No wait, quick service and amazing prices for what they offer. We started with a beer and soju and ordered a bunch of things off their happy hour menu (which had a variety of options). I'm definitely a fan of their seasonings and sauces as it added a nice flavor to everything. I recommend the skewers and chashu Rice. The takoyaki is definitely a must. They have TV's for sports, and plenty of dessert options (which I need to go back to check out). Music is lively and upbeat, but not too loud. This place is great for groups. Checked out Cheers Cafe, a Korean fusion spot that serves mini hot pots, skewers, and rice bowls. We ordered the chili oil chicken dumplings, ribeye skewers, beef bibimbap and the spicy pork plate; all items were packed with flavor. The skewers had a bit too much cumin for my taste and the spicy pork was on the fattier side. On the other hand, the beef bibimbap that my boyfriend ordered was really good. Definitely something we'll get again. The chili oil chicken dumplings were spicy but good. Oh and the brussel sprouts was definitely a must. The honey balsamic glaze, or whatever is seasoning the brussel spouts, was the highlight of the night. The restaurant is located in a large plaza with plenty of parking, which made things super convenient. I didnt expect much from Cafes, but the food here is very good and fulfilling. Hotpots: I have mainly came for the late night hotpot as they don't close til 11pm. Their satay beef and their seafood hotpot are a fave, the soup bases are very good and flavorful, not lacking. It's also very packed with food. 2 people can share one mini hot pot with an extra rice. The hot pot i DONT Recommend is their sukiyaki one. Too sweet and the items soak up the sweetness. I think this one needs to be diluted. Some other faves- Fried tofu , comes with a good sweet sour sauce. Beefbelly and chiken Yakitori is also good. Pretty cheap per stick but the slices of meat are thick and seasoned well. The Lychee had decent alcohol taste, not the best, color is very strong, not sure if I'd recommend but it does the job alcohol wise. Relaxed casual vibe, nice lighting, booth seating along the wall feels cozy. Service is OK, had to wave them down but not bad. Forgot what night but it wasn't a Friday/Weekend and they closed at 10pm which is different than what hours state!! Passed by West Co and found this cool spot on Yelp. The skewers looked good and got me to go check it out. It did not disappoint! They have Chinese-style skewers, Japanese yakitori, and even hotpot. And I ordered all of them! Good vibes and the service was good. I liked how they include cumin spice and peppered salt on the table for all the meat. They were all flavorful and cooked perfectly without tasting dry. The Mongolian lamb hot pot was good too. The soup base was ok the lighter side, that I wasn't used to, but I actually enjoyed a lot especially while eating more savior skewers on the side. Overall recommend this place. I tried the quail eggs, sausage, potato, and rice cake skewers as well as the honey brussels sprouts. Everything was really good and well seasoned but if I had to choose a favorite it probably would be the rice cake! Was a little slow to get the check but that's fine. We arrived a little past 9 pm on a Sunday night and there was no other people dining in. The space inside is nice and spacious, and their menu is big and versatile. We got the following Yakitori which are mini bbq skewers. They were pretty good for the price. - Beef belly 9/10 - Chicken thigh 9.6/10 - Scallop 7.5/10 - Pork belly 9.5/10 We also got the Flaming Hot mini hotpot and added udon noodles for an additional price. It came with some glass noodles but we felt like adding the udon noodles was necessary. The broth tasted rich, spicy, and had an umami flavor to it. It was packed with fresh ingredients and they all complimented the hot pot. It came with a sweet and tangy sauce on the side which complimented the meat (brisket). 9.3/10 If you're in the area, give them a try. What a late night vibe here. It was empty at 6 pm on a Friday, like I was the only customer there. However once 7 pm hit a flood of people came in and the restaurant was almost full. It's a bar type vibe here for drinks, Korean street food, and atmosphere. Menu doesn't have prices so you'll have to use the QR code provided to actually see the full menu. I tried out a load of food and here are my thoughts. Eel Bibimbap - Simply put, it's an amazing dish with a lot of flavors. Portion is quite big with one chunk of eel and many other toppings. You mix it yourself and it was solid. (5/5) Five Spices Soup - Had low expectations for hotpot here but I was actually surprised. Flavors were on point and had all components that hotpot's needs. Felt the beef given was quite plentiful and overall good for an individual hotpot. Flavorful broth too. (4.5/5) Cheese Corn - Amazed that I thought this was one of the most flavorful cheese corns I've had. It's very creamy, yes but it had a good balance that's not overly done. (5/5) Skewers - So I had four type of skewers and they all were the first to arrive to the table. All very good in its own way. Quail Egg - If you like quail eggs you'll enjoy these. Seasoned well and Smokey flavor. (5/5) Pork belly- Fatty Goodness, similar Smokey flavor but with pork belly, it's good. (4.5/5) Beef Ribeye- Same as pork belly it's good, some were tender pieces while some were a bit more chewy. Delicious. (4.5/5) Sticky Corn - I was just curious what this was. It's Meh not that it's bad but I could go without it. Has a sticky rice type texture. Overall it's aite. (3/5) Baked Green Mussel - If you enjoy creamy stuff like I do this is a must get. Pretty much an elevated baked green mussel you see at Chinese buffets. (4.5/5) Oh Thai Brulee - Personally for me it was just too much ice, not enough tea. Flavors were good though and it tasted like Thai tea. (4/5) Overall I really enjoyed this place. It's located in the same plaza as Tokyo Central and plenty of parking outside. This would be a great spot to bring friends to get that late night drinks and munchies. Service is top notch as well, only downsides are the lack of pricing on the menus but everyone has smart phones anyways and can pull the full menu up via QR code. Plenty of parking at 7pm on a Tuesday. Beef belly skewers are delicious, we ordered another round, after the first. I had the sukiyaki mini pot with glass noodles, but I ended up also ordering rice. It's packed with so much flavor in the broth that the rice helps to balance and soak it all up. The meat is thinly shaved and there's plenty of it, including veggies. Dinner in West Covina, California... The threat of Tropical Storm Hilary was real. On 8-20-23, it was raining in Southern California (surprise), but we still needed to eat. We had mini skewers and boy oh boy they were literally "mini". The pork belly skewer was so thin like the pig was on a diet. Not photographed were lamb and beef skewers. They were smaller than my index finger. Not worth the money at all. The mussels were okay. Tempura was tempura. You can't really go wrong with that. The rice cake skewer was weird. It was like grilled with salt and glazed with honey so it was sweet and salty. Never again. The oysters were grilled with A LOT of butter. Our table ordered 2 beers, 2 tea drinks (I recommend reducing the sugar because the drinks are overly sweet), 2 jellyfish salad (deliciously spicy if you like numbing spiciness), 2 crispy tofu, wings (kind of small), 13 happy hour skewers, cajun fries, takoyaki, and kimchi salad (too salty and not fermented, I'd pass on this). I'd recommend everything except the kimchi salad. We paid 77$ after tip for all of that. Service was very fast and friendly. When looking for a cute lunch spot, MayLene D. and I decided to meet at Cheers Cafe. They are located in the same plaza as Tokyo Central - West Covina close to the Taco Bell. Parking was a bit busy in the plaza so I parked a bit far away to avoid scratches or dings to my car. Cheers has a wide variety of Asian fusion dishes, so much to choose from. It's one of those menus where I feel like there is something for everyone. MayLene D. and I shared a few items so we can experience a little more variety. Lychee Sake($28/liter) - Wow cuteness trap. If you get the liter, this lychee sake is served in a barrel shaped dispenser. Very light and refreshing and great for the camera too. Yakitori - MayLene D. had the Chicken Thigh ($1.95) and the Ham Sausage ($1.95) and I had the Pork Belly ($1.95). What I really enjoyed is that you definitely get the smokiness from the yakitori and it was fun to eat. Corn Cheese ($8.95) - One of my favorite dishes when I see it on the menu, but this version failed me. It did not taste like the traditional corn cheese I get at the Korean sooljips. Bulgogi Bibimbap ($20.95) - Served in a hot stone the portion was huge and generous with bulgogi. There was also beansprouts, mushrooms, kimchi, crispy seaweed and a sunny side up egg. It was good but a tad sweet for me. The sausiness from the bulgogi prevented the rice from getting nice and crispy, which is why most people get the hot stone. There were some really successful things about the meal, but it wasn't all the way there for me. I might come back if I was in the area, but I wouldn't go out of my way to come back. read more

Had dinner here the other night with the family. We saw that they were new in the area and was a Asian fusion restaurant. When we arrived, the staff seemed a bit confused of where to seat our table of eight and asked if we had a reservation, although it 7pm on a Sunday night and the restaurant was empty. After when we are seated, they brought the water cups, which were paper disposable cups with a berry design and disposable utensils. The menus were in a dry erase slip and that's how you order the food. There were 3 menus for a our table and 1 dry erase marker. The staff seemed very confused and unprepared for our party. Also the staff was wearing AirPods which made the miscommunication more frustrating. We ordered a variety of things from the menu, ranging from a hot pot dish to a Korean bim bim bap which was a flat hot plate, to Taiwanese entrees, to boiling crab shrimp, and to the bbq skewers. It was definitely a large menu, which was confusing and made us a bit hesitant. Food was alright, the skewers are probably what their known for. In all honesty, this cafe seems like they were quite ambitious but that seemed to be a huge part of the downfall for our experience unfortunately. The restaurant theme was all over the place with Christmas decor still up in July, large tv with sports on with unfortunate light placement, the disposable utensils with the higher quality foods, and the non-stop TikTok music which was very unpleasant. Came here with my colleagues on a weekday for lunch. We were seated immediately and given menus to draw on to see what we wanted. I got a lunch menu braised pork hock and pork intestine bowl ($16.95) which also comes with hot and sour soup and a tea on the side. I substituted the rice with udon for $3. This was an extremely hefty and huge dish. The dish itself was delicious and (obviously) fattening but I feel like they could have made the dish a bit smaller with a lunch special, or give an option for a mini size. The tea was fine, bit sweet. I also had a bunch of skewers, including chicken heart (which was a tad gamey-ish but delicious), corn, lamb (with cumin - also delish!), and squid (so-so for me). Ordered a variety of skewers. They were pretty good. Our favorites were the pork belly and beef intestines. The chicken heart was ok. The ribeye was difficult to chew. Can't really go wrong with beer. Cocktail was sweet. It came with lychee jelly but I had to ask for a boba straw. Hot pots had a lot of things to eat inside. Unfortunately I was not a fan of the broth, so I did not finish my pot. After trying the soup out of the other two pots that my table ordered, I decided I probably don't like their hot pots at all. The rest of my table enjoyed it more than I did. The time it took from the skewers to hot pot was quite long, so if you're there to get hotpot only, be prepared to wait. The service was not great. I think the reason was because there was only one server to 6 tables. Another server arrived 45 minutes later. Cheers cafe is tucked away in the same plaza as Tokyo central! It is a pretty spacious and clean restaurant and plenty of parking in the strip mall. In terms of food, I'm less than impressed. Of all the things I ordered, my favorite was the beef skewers which was seasoned very well. The braised plater had good flavors too and the rib was very tender. The jellyfish salad was too much cabbage and too little jelly fish. It didn't help that the cabbage/cucumber was a little bitter so the whole dish was hard to finish. The mini pot was decent, I wish they put the vermicelli noodle on the side instead of the bottom of the pot because it was super mushy by the time we got to it. More like a 4.5 stars, overall, the food was very good. I usually don't eat Asian food in a cafe or cafe-like environment, nor am I ever in West Covina. I was pleasantly surprised at how solid the food was. The fried tofu was a must-try, and the bbq skewers and yakitori tasted almost like something out of an Asian bbq restaurant. Major props. Even the mini hotpot was pretty solid. One of the major things I like about Cheers Cafe is the clean environment. It's a cozy and pretty fun place to be. The beef hot pot was actually enough for two of us, although I could probably eat it all myself, too. There are plenty of choices and a happy hour, too. I'll be back to try out more. Service was fine, but not sure when they actually close. We came after 9 and online says closing is at 11, but they said "last call" for ordering around 10:15.
