This was one of our first spots we went for breakfast. I got the breakfast wrap and my husband got the 3 pancakes. The food was freshly made, very tasty and satisfying. The service was nice and quick. Not too pushy and very laid back. Things I would improve: better quality coffee and honey. I'm a big fan of freshly brew good quality coffee with my breakfast. If you're paying $16 for two little "crab cakes," it's pretty disappointing to find them loaded with mystery whitefish and dyed pink, California roll imitation crab. The first staffer I talked to denied that it was fake, saying "I know for a fact that's real crab". The second person I talked to said "it's a mix" of imitation crab, whitefish and real crab. This is a local greasy spoon evolving into something a bit more hip and quite frankly unique for Squamish. You can get the standard easy over eggs and hash browns but also some healthier options like the salmon frittata with freshly grinded carrots. I, nor anyone I've taken here, has been disappointed so far. Coffee was also surprisingly good on every occasion. It's a bit a of self service place where you seat yourself and checkout at the counter but has recently improved with the servers actually smiling at you when delivering food. Stopped buy here for lunch and I'm sorry to say I won't be back. Change of ownership, whole new staff. Definitely not the same small town restaurant that it used to be. . Service was slow, my food arrived over cooked and cold. Quality of food has gone down hill, food has no taste, using cheap deli sliced meat instead of real pieces of chicken, beef, and turkey. Even the bacon is not the same, cheap "take out thin fast food burger type of bacon". No more baked goods.. soup is awfull, it has no taste. The staff doesn't even look happy. Decreased hours as well. Used to be open till 3:00 now they close at 2:00.. Don't think this restaurant will last much longer, which is such a shame, the old "Chef Big D's WAS the BEST".... not anymore, don't wasted your time or hard earned cash. read more

My first visit. I had their house salad with avo, walnuts and chicken on field greens. Good ingredients, adequately prepared. Tables are coffee house sized, not coffeeshop sized. Vague menu hides a cornucopia of mediocre food prepared at a Snails pace. Wait staff is overtaxed because management is too cheap to pay for a host and bussers, instead asking customers to seat themselves, but refusing to serve a customer if they seat themselves at a table that isn't perfectly clean. We witnessed several parties come in, wait for 10 minutes at the door, seat themselves and then leave after being ignored for up to 20 minutes. If you have any other options for food, give this hole a pass. read more

Really good food with really nice take away layout. Looks a lot better then the cheap white kind. Everything comes with fresh fruit and the poached eggs are perfect and huge because they use fresh farmed eggs. It DOES make a big difference! Crab cakes are quite yummy and the potatoes are really good! My favourite are their pancakes. I crave them often! It's delicious, and their maple syrup isn't the store bought and has quite a nice richness. Love it. The only thing is that it could be sort of more expensive if your eating daily and it's quite a wait since it's so busy. read more

So we came in on a Sunday morning and it's not super busy. The blackboard in front says "sit yourself at a clean table" so we found one and sit down. 10 min in, no server came to us so we went to the counter and just asked if we should order at the counter and informed server will come to us. A cute little restaurant where the portions are big and delicious. Went for breakfast and didn't have to eat till dinner! LOL. We had the Big D's Omelette and the Turkey Omelette (can't remember the name). They came with hash browns (which are like these cut up potato wedge type things), toast, and some fruit (Cantelope and a strawberry). They give you tons of food for the price and the coffee wasn't bad either. Overall, an excellent place to get breakfast if your in the area and I would recomend to anyone!! P.S We got there at about 9:30 and were lucky enough to find a table right away. BEWARE if you're coming later than that / with a big party because it gets pretty busy. read more

On our way back down to Seattle from Whistler, we stopped by for some breakfast food. It was a Sunday and the place was pretty busy, but we were seated right away which was nice. There was only one person serving so service was a little slow, but again... it was busy so no biggie. The person was extremely nice which I appreciated considering she was flying solo on a busy Sunday. The overall atmosphere was chill and laid back. Totally a neighborhood diner feel. The food was good too. I probably wouldnt drive all the way up just for food, but I would definitely go back if ever driving through. I was passing through Squamish and had a craving for pancakes so I swung by Chef Big Ds. Alas, they were out of pancakes (and about 25% of the other items on the menu). At that point, however, I was hungry and willing to settle on something else. I ended up ordering Chicken Brie Wrap (on cranberry sourdough, they were out of wraps). Let's get something straight here: I don't write food reviews. But this sandwich was so good that I felt it was my duty to come here and sing its praises. Gone was my deep-seeded pancake craving, beaten back into the shadows by a delicious homemade apricot chutney and perfectly seasoned chicken. As I finished the final bite of my sandwich (a full 11.2 seconds after it arrived at the table), I lamented the loss of what felt like an old friend. This is one of the few places I'd come back to and pay $16 for a sandwich. Hell I'd consider making a trip out of it. read more

Had no idea Squamish had such delights! Type of a joint where you seat yourself. We visited for brunch on a Saturday and we waited at the door for awhile for a table large enough for our party of three. Didn't have to wait long. Restaurant felt a bit cozy with a cabin-like feel to it. Prices were reasonable, especially for the serving sizes. I was on a low-carb diet, so I ordered the healthy D's frittata. It came with a side of fruit. Frittata was stuffed with ultra fresh veggies. Peppers were very flavorful. Very tasty and the fruit (melon, strawberries and kiwi) was great. Also ordered a hot tea. The Red Rose brand of tea came in a little tea pot that had a cute little handmade crotchet cozy covering it. My husband's meal came with a side of potatoes. Of course, my low-carb self had to try one. Cooked perfectly crisp on the outside, soft on the inside. He also ordered a Hawaiian pancake with bananas and coconut cooked into it with an orange syrup. Of course, I tried it too! Tasted amazing! Our daughter had the chicken fingers. They'd forgotten her order and quickly filled the order and had it on our table. Made with real chicken. She was friendly and courteous, asked if I wanted more water for my tea etc. I ordered the Tropical Pancakes, they were probably the best pancakes I've ever eaten. The whipped topping was delicious but felt like there wasn't enough syrup. But to save the day they have single serving jams on the tables. So that was a bonus. This has become our favourite spot when motorcycling through Squamish. The portions are huge and the food is very tasty. Some of our favourites are the "Big D's Burger with bacon and cheese" and the "Fried Egg sandwich." They are also known for their "sides" specifically the fries and ceasar salad. The service is always friendly and fast. A typical meal for two (without drinks) will cost you around $25. This is a great stop for lunch! read more

A local institution... Meaning long waits for a table. Tasty food in reasonably large portions. Service, though, is slow.

Forget any of the negative reviews you may have seen. I'm convinced those people were only trying to scare you away to keep this little gem to themselves. Perhaps they came to this charming little diner expecting a 5-Star Michelin restaurant. Or maybe they went out for breakfast on the weekend for the first time ever and just didn't realize that a bustling establishment is going to take a little bit of time. What I can tell you is that even if you do have to wait, it's worth it. The staff is hardworking and friendly, salt of the earth folks. The place is clean--not polished, not sparkling, but definitely clean. The food is delicious and portions are more than enough to fuel a hike after. Try the berry pancakes--strawberry, raspberry, and blueberry stack. Bacon is thick and crispy. Coffee was refilled promptly and with a smile. Love this place. read more
