When I am in the Rowlett neighborhood, I always pick up some Chef Chen to go. They serve some of the best Chinese in the area. They have great lunch prices and the portions are enough for two servings for me. It's a good size restaurant with booth and table seatings. The staff is friendly and they whip up to go orders very quickly. I love this place. read more

The food arrived quickly, BUT the quality was poor as usual: egg roll tasted like the grease in the fryer need to be thrown away and replaced, the pork ribs had been in the warmer so long that you could not tell the meat from the bone, the battered shrimp was a lump of indescribable 'C_ _ _'! By the time it arrived it was very cool. Only people that like this place is that they throw a bunch of food at you.....inedible but a lot. After several tries through the years, I've given up that this place would ever turn out a decent dish, which Asian restaurants are noted for........ Chef Chen restaurant is in a very convenient location near UPS store and the barber lounge. Lots of tables, and very kind, great service! I ordered a bunch of dishes, the Kung Pao chicken, pepper steak, chow mein and the fried rice. All dishes came out fresh and excellent !! I have been here one other time before and only got it to go and since it was good for the price i decided to come here again and eat in . Funny because i don't know how this place works to eat in at but i said it multiple times when i was ordering . I said i wanna dine in at the front and she was like ok what do you want. Reiterating my own confusion i say oh do i order right here, since apparently it was a pay up front type of deal. Under the impression that i was dining in i paid a 25% tip since the lunch special is cheap enough , and on the menu it states that if you dine in you get a small soup. Along with that at the end of my order i specifically said i wanted water with my meal and it seemed like she absorbed the information but that's not the case we get our food and it's to-go. well i already tipped and planned to eat there so i tell the worker that i initially ordered to dine in she then says she will bring out plates and proceeds to bring us small plates not giving a small soup or whatever extra they say is offered with the lunch special . also i mention that i wanted water and that server says just serve yourself water and points at the drink station. this is ok i understand some restaurants are like that but the lady who took my order didn't say anything . i had faith in this place so i tipped well, unfortunately since i paid upfront i wouldn't have tipped with the experience i received. as a fellow asian i fully love that their prices are still affordable and to show my thanks i just wanted to eat there and enjoy eating it there . i feel like people don't go out to eat as much and dine in since covid and personally i try to take those opportunities and eat at places. read more

So disappointed- this used to be our go to for Chinese delivery. Tonight's shrimp fried rice and lettuce wraps were completely tasteless- zero flavor at all. Stopped in here with my wife for Sunday lunch. It's a sit down restaurant with a very casual feel. The menu is a little confusing and they could do better differentiating the lunch menu from the dinner menu. I ordered the General Tso's chicken. I have to say this was the best General Tso's chicken I have had in years. The sauce was a perfect blend of sweet and a little fire. I'm not much of an adventurous person so our family orders the same thing every time but we enjoy their combination fried rice, chicken and broccoli with brown sauce and fried chicken wings. I like that they're able to pull up your address with your phone number. Such a time saver! The crab rangoons were made with a strange pastry, so thick, very hard and stale, they cooked the filling right out if it. Didn't even eat them, and I eat almost anything. The Carol/Cathryn Special (don't remember the name but it started with a C) with shrimp, beef and chicken was very bland. No flavor of any kind. Only three shrimp in the whole dish, frozen veggies, and very little meat at all. The rice was so dry, it was like the rice after you put it in a fridge over night and its crumbles with that wierd coating on it. Sorry to say it was super gross.
