Pork Katsu Burger w/ Miso Sauce

3.5 stars. This wasn't really anything special but was a good quick spot to eat. I imagine the curry or other dishes are better - the bread was a bit too overpowering/much leaving little taste of the pork katsu

Special- Shrimp Katsu Burger w/ TarTar Sauce

Wow! Insane, I was mind blown by their special of the day - Shrimp Katsu Burger w/ TarTar Sauce. It might have been a seasonal special - I can't remember but it wasn't on their regular menu. If you see the photo I posted, you can see how thick the piece of shrimp burger was... and the katsu was cooked perfectly in that the shrimp retained its texture and juiciness. I can easily eat 3 pieces of the shrimps katsu (without the burger bun). They should definitely consider adding the shrimps katsu burger as a main menu item! The shredded cabbage was a nice refreshing pairing. Their drink option looks amazing as well. I saw a couple folks order the strawberry match latte and they also have hojicha option as well.

I tried takeout from here recently and felt like it was a very solid Japanese sandwich and bowl spot. The katsu shrimp burger was well-prepared, crispy on a soft bun with some nice crunchy veggies--I do feel like they could have turned the flavor up a little bit with another spicy or tangy or even sweet sauce in addition to the classic tartar. It was kind of like your typical po'boy, which I enjoyed, but nothing really set it apart or connected it to the particular cuisine. I also had the salmon dashi chazuke because the salmon ikura bowl sold out. Very simple, salmon rice and some shredded nori and scallions with dashi broth, but it was yummy and nourishing. The miso soup was also good, pretty standard. A good meal, just maybe could use some punchier flavors all around, but a solid option in the area for sure.

. I have been ordering from this restaurant for many years . I always order delivery as I live further away and it arrives hot and super delicious Love to order Salmon Dashi dish - really warms my insides especially on a cold day and I've gotten it when I was very sick and it nurtured me back to health! Chef katsu's dishes are like eating at someone's grandma's home. Beautiful presented, perfectly balanced . Also love the Salmon and chicken teriyaki bowls . Owner is lovely too and often supports others in need. Great business to support ! Still as yummy as 3 years ago when I last reviewed it!

Casual spot for a homey meal. I liked the salmon ochazuke more than the katsu rice bowl. There weren't many tables inside, and it was hard to find a table inside on a Friday night.

Only had the shrimp katsu burger special, which was phenomenal. Very big patty and juicy shrimp, fried to perfection. I wish I did a better cross-section since it was so flavorful. Would definitely come back to try their other things.

I've been wanting to try this place for so long and so glad I did! I got my order to go, but wish I ate there so the katsu would've been crispier. The katsu was cooked perfectly and flavorful. I loved the side of shishito peppers and watermelon radish. The desserts looked super good, so I'll have to come back to try them!

A true gem. Finally stopped by on a Friday for lunch. Warning, they can get pretty busy so if you see a chair/table, grab it and then order. I wasn't sure what I wanted but I ultimately went with the salmon katsu burger w/ tar tar sauce ($12), french fries ($4.50), and a katsu palmer ($4). For $23 it was worth it. Obsessed with the salmon burger and the fries. Great tasting fries are hard to come by. I was pleasantly surprised and so was my friend. The salmon burger was fried and seasoned to perfection. It also came with shredded cabbage, shiso and mayo. I'd definitely order those again. I wouldn't get the katsu palmer again. I liked the yuzu lemonade but the japanese iced barley tea flavor wasn't for me.

It was busy on a weekend for a late lunch. There are only a few tables in the casual restaurant and there was some people standing around waiting for their orders. You order at the counter and can seat yourself. They will bring your food to you, and then you clean up after yourself. I got the salmon and ikura bowl and it was ready quickly. The quality of the salmon and ikura was great, but the portion size was small. I would come back to try some of the other items, but it is definitely a place for quick or casual meal since it's small and busy.

Came in for dinner on a Friday and their curry was unfortunately sold out :( I opted for the portobello katsu burger instead and it was mid. Little flavor and too much bread. Wish there was more sauce. I was looking forward to trying this place but it missed the mark for me. I'll have to come back again for the curry or another dish.

Pork Katsu Burger with Miso Sauce, Curry Rice Bowl (Pork Katsu), Iced Yuzu Mint Lemonade, French Fries (V), Japanese Pudding

Food/Drinks: We got the curry and the sandwich for food and the yuzu lemonade for drinks, as we noticed one on almost every table. The curry was rich and had a nutty flavor but something about it was slightly off to us. The drink was nice and tart but slightly dehydrating if we're being totally honest. The flavors would good but it seemed to be heavy in flavors that make you have the need to buy more to drown out the original flavors. We loved the pudding and fries though! Service: The cashier was sweet and understanding of our semi big order. The food came out slightly slow but it made sense as there was an abundance of people both inside and outside. Ambiance: The decor was really pretty and although it's a smaller shop, the ambiance was still very cozy.

My only regret is not coming here sooner. Flavors were really delicious, every bite complimenting the last. Decent portion for the price/value. Can't wait to try some of the other items on their menu :)

Came on a Tuesday afternoon, and it was packed. There were people waiting to be seated while others just got takeout. Definitely come earlier if you want to sit down. There was a park across the street, but the children from the nearby school were having recess there so not much other seating. The katsu sandwiches were great. My favorite was the salmon. The curry on the chicken katsu was good. The breading on all were light. The meats were a little dry, so I would've liked if there was more sauce for all of the sandwiches. The purin was amazing, super creamy and milky. The caramel sauce wasn't too sweet either and paired so well with it. Don't skip it if it's available. Solid lunch spot with prices that are low for NYC.

We started by learning how to make Chicken Marsala, then moved into pasta making (my favorite part). After that, we learned how to make fresh mozzarella, and finally ended the night with dessert: tiramisu. The entire experience was so fun and interactive. I especially appreciated how knowledgeable Chef Alex was about everything we were making. When I asked about the type of pan she was using and why, she gave such a detailed and thoughtful explanation, which I really appreciated. By then, we had definitely worked up an appetite! We started dinner with a delicious salad and focaccia bread, followed by pesto fettuccine made from the pasta we created ourselves. Then came Chicken Marsala with mushrooms, and ricotta-stuffed ravioli in red sauce, also handmade by us. One of the best parts of the night was the atmosphere. Cooking, eating, and learning alongside people you've never met before somehow felt so natural and welcoming. You genuinely leave feeling like you made new friends. If I had one honest critique, I do wish there had been more opportunity to personally season some of the dishes to taste, as I felt parts of the meal were a little bland for my preference. I also personally prefer softer pasta over a firmer al dente texture. That said, I completely understood why the pasta had that texture since we didn't have much time for the dough to fully rest and develop. I also think some light Italian jazz music playing in the background would have elevated the atmosphere even more and really taken the experience to another level. Overall, I had a wonderful time and would absolutely take another class. It's definitely worth it for the experience, the knowledge you gain, and of course... dinner! Also, we got home (with our left overs) and finally had the tiramisu... and WOW. It was soooo delicious. The ravioli and tiramisu were definitely the stars of the show for me!

What a fun virtual French crepe cooking class with Danielle and Lily from Michel et Augustin…read moreon...Instagram. If you would have told me that I would be doing a cooking class this summer on Instagram, I would not have believed you. Now, I would recommend bookmarking the summer series, Baking With Our Buds. If you miss an "episode", you could still follow the recipes that are posted on their Instagram. Crepes have always seemed exacting to me. Danielle and Lily were the perfect team to learn how to cook a family recipe that we all successfully muddled through together. Loved how the chefs on the "call" gave helpful baking tips along the way. Helpful Hints- Whisk the eggs, milk and water, then add the melted butter Whisk the flour, sugar and a pinch of sea salt Slowly add the dry ingredients by 1/3 increments to the wet ingredients and continue to whisk Add the beer, watch it bubble and the wait an hour for the magic to happen The batter will be thin Butter your pan Use a ladle to pour the batter onto a hot skillet Have fun with sweet or savory fillings. We did a combination of both. Mushrooms, broccoli, arugula and havarti or arugula, mushrooms, cherry tomatoes and a fried egg were the favorite savory options. Nutella and banana or grilled peaches, blueberries and ricotta with powdered sugar were the dessert top choices in our home kitchen. Would be great with Brie and apples or a smoked salmon combination as well. The combinations are endless. Merci to Danielle and Lily at Michel et Augustin for a delicious, healthy summer meal. Can't wait to bake with you again and good luck with the nationwide launch of your cookies into the Whole Foods Markets. Bon Appetit!

We loved the food…read more Came here on a saturday for lunch before the world cup. We arrived just when it opened I think. The place was pretty quiet. Friendly waitress greeted us and sat us immediately. Menu's came out and they recommended a pizza and burger. We agreed and ordered. Place started to pick up and get busy immediately after we ordered. Food came out pretty quickly. We each had a burger. Not a lot of options on the menu but we all tried the emily burger. It was worth it. Think, juicy and with an amazingly unique taste. The ingredients were high quality, the burger cooked to perfection. The table also split the modern pizza (I think). Not sure what to expect from this one but turns out it was perfect, unique and delicious. The cheese taste really shined through. Overall, we were super happy with the food here. Stop by if you have a chance.

Greetings all, it's been a while but here I am. Let's talk about Emily a quant pizza restaurant…read morethat you could easily walk pass and not know what they sold. Today however it wasn't pizza that brought me here, it was the famous Emmy Burger. To begin with the atmosphere of the restaurant is dim lighting a few tables with a reasonable sized bar in the middle of the room. They also have an open kitchen concept where just past the bar you can see the cooks working. My server Inda was polite and knowledgeable about the menu. My burger was excellent, normally I don't eat my burger with a knife and folk, but in this case with all the cheese and sauce oozing down the sides, not to mention the caramelized onions, it was necessary. (If I were home I wouldn't mind having burger juices running down my arm, but other people were eating in the restaurant also). The tiny pickles which I can't remember the name of were an added treat to the burger. I decided to order mine with the loaded fries. Just imagine the ground burger with all the toppings covering french fries and add melted white cheese. Since I was alone I didn't order a pizza because how would I eat it all, but next time I will try the pizza. I don't mind paying extra for a burger when it's aged beef and the taste is great. I definitely recommend this location. There is a fast food burger restaurant next door to Emily's but I can't imagine there burgers compare. I will try them another time and let you know. That's all for now, see you on my next review.
