This is my favorite "treat yourself" place at the Jersey shore. We visit about 4 times a year and have never been disappointed. The food is prepared with care and is always top notch. The portions can be a bit large but who can complain about getting two meals? The view out over the beach is spectacular. The wait staff is always very attentive. It can get very busy and they don't take reservations so you might be in for a long stint at the bar. Definitely worth the wait. read more

The entrance is bad enough, I felt like I was walking through a maze just to get to the hostess desk. Here's the bad part. My boyfriend ordered a ny strip steak, medium rare and got it well done. He cut into it to try it, because it was so dark, you couldn't see the color of the steak. So the waitress took it back and we asked for the bill. To our surprise the bill had the full amount of the steak he did NOT eat. We had to ask why it was still there if it was sent back. She come back and says that the manager will offer us a comp dessert (valued at $8) versus a $40+ steak!!!! Are you serious? I asked to see the manager and instead of bringing him to the table, we had to get up and talk to him. He kept repeating "did he send the steak back whole?" and that was the reason he gave for us a $20 deduction... I've never seen that in my life. My family and I have been loyal patrons of Atlantic Bar and Grill for many years. My review is no way a reflection on the food, views or the severing staff which would easily be 5 stars. The 1 star review is a reflection on the hosting staff. The three girls they have running the hostessing stand honestly have no idea what is going on nor do they have any clue how to organize tables and times. No matter how crowed the restaurant is they will tell you there is an hour wait. Which discourages people form eating at the restaurant. If you do not stay on top of them there is a good chance you will not get your table. We were told we could immediately sit outside but then asked to wait because they did not want to over burden the waitress outside (whatever that means). After waiting a good 15 minutes some came in requesting to sit outside and they were ready to seat them immediately! If i wasn't watching what they were doing my table would have been gone. As I said before, I have been to this place many times. Last night was the straw that broke the calms back so to speak. Antics like this have happened before. The only bad thing about this place is the girls they have in the front. They seriously need retraining in restaurant management and costumer service. read more

LOVE ABG! Never disappoints, when you can actually get a reservation there. Clearly the secrets out because this place is always packed. We had to call over a week in advance for reservations and even then they were squeezing us in. Food is always so fresh and bursting with flavor. this is our first choice when we are down the shore. I almost always check out reviews on Yelp before I try a new place, especially one with prices like this but I can honestly say that I'm glad I didn't read these reviews before going. It's situated behind a maze of "interesting" motel buildings. There is a beautiful view of the ocean if you get a good table and a cramped view of the people next to you if you don't. My friends and I were staying at a relative's house for free so we decided to splurge on dinner here and we had WONDERFUL meals. The mahi mahi, tuna and filet were all delicious and well cooked. The drinks were expensive but good, equal to about 2 drinks at another bar. The place was packed and the service a little slow, but we had a very enjoyable dinner. I don't know when I will be back to get another view of this place but I hope that it is just as good if I decide to splurge on dinner here again. read more

We came a year ago and everything was amazing. Well this amazing chef mike is really not amazing. My oysters looked like they were opened with a machete, the tuna tasted like it was just dripping with salt and the Cesar salad was super dry. I live locally, have been eating here for years, sadly, it's been slipping for quite some time, to the point that I probably won't return. The wait can be absurd, it's packed all the time. The service is usually pretty good. Unfortunately, the quality of the food has been getting worse every time I go. My fist time there and it was excellent. I enjoyed the scenery, right on the beach and survived the storm. They have a nice outdoor seating area as well as the inside bar and restaurant. The bar manager comes up with a new and exciting cocktail which is worth trying. I had cucumber vodka with club soda, mint, cucumber and a scoop of lime sorbet-really good and refreshing. Something different, they put a glass of bacon on the bar for everyone instead of the usual nuts or pretzels, but be careful because you can literally eat it all because its so good. The food, was fresh and nice sized portions. I started with the stuffed clams in a lemon & butter sauce and they were huge and very tasty. The sauce was good, we dipped some bread after. Entrees, I had the filet mignon medallions with blue cheese crab sauce, excellent flavor and cooked perfectly. What a disappointment! We have frequented ABG for years, and we were excited about dining here tonight. Wow... started with the hot mixed appetizer which was very good as we had remembered it, the salad was the house version and was just ok, then the entrees came...my husbands steak was awful!!! No sear or seasoning whatsoever and my seafood pasta was terrible, no flavor and the mussels were borderline bad. I am so upset that we spent so much on a very unpleasant dinner. I would have to say I probably wont go again and take another chance at a less than palatable dinner. The best thing about this dinner was our waitress Barbara, she was attentive and efficient, and we appreciate good service, but not enough to make a return trip. read more

This is more than likely due in great part to poor restaurant management. Had dinner there Saturday night Was 4 of us and when you make the reservation you can stay 2 hours with a party of 4. Got there early went to the bar first we all had delicious martinis. Bartenders are great. Well as soon as we sat down our waitress came over and wanted the entire order. We ordered a bottle of wine and gave the waitress our full order but told her to space it out we don't want to be rushed. We all ordered appetizers and as soon as we were done our dinner arrived. Was not happy!! we were only sitting 40 mins. Then to top it off after dinner my husband ordered a glass of wine the waitress brought over a bottle and poured my husband a glass. We assumed as some restaurants do, they bring a bottle to the table to fill his glass but no she brought another bottle which we got stick with. If im spending 475 on dinner I expect to be sitting for more then an hour and not be rushed. Food was very good but would definitely sit with a different server next time!! read more

We tried this restaurant for the first time and will not go back. The view and our server were the best things about this restaurant. Very tight seating, and very little air conditioning - very warm inside this building. I ordered the dad's pot which consisted of all seafood - you would think for $46 they would at least cook it right. The calamari was like eating rubber bands, the scallops were also very chewy as well as the lobster tail - no taste. Clams were mushy. The only thing in the pot that I could say was ok was the shrimp and mussels. They give you a bread basket before your dinner - bread was good, breadsticks - stale. All the server kept saying was I apologize. I agree with the gentleman from January, everything he said is true. The website is way better than the real thing - don't waste your money. read more

They only take reservations for six or more all others have to wait about an hour, it is so noisy forget about having a conversation, the poor piano who is trying to drown the noise doesn't help, the view is beautiful which is why we wanted to eat there. My wife & I went on a Saturday night and had an hour wait which was fine, because the view from the bar is great and the bartenders were quick with service, plus they have an amazing bar snack, bacon strips! Once we seated, the restaurant got exposed for what it is, decent though overpriced food with a great view... we had a dozen oysters to start, which were good, the crab bisque is okay but nothing special - Our issue was with the entrees, I had the rack of lamb ordered medium rare, it came out very rare, almost cold inside - my wife had the scallop special, and they were overcooked and dry. Definitely not one of the best in NJ, maybe one of the best in Seaside Park for whatever that's worth - go for the drinks and view, skip the food. read more

Dishonest coupon policy! Be warned! This restaurant has an ad in the current Entertainment book. After eating our meal, we were told that they could not accept the coupon because they were no longer Atlantic Bar and Grill and had changed owners. Never mind the fact that the signage in front stated that it was, in fact, the Atlantic Bar and Grill. There was no sign indicating a change had taken place and no outward reason to expect the coupon would not be honored. All in all, we lost about $20 by their refusal. We find their attitude ridiculous and they are going to lose more than $20 in the long run because neither us nor our friends are ever eating here again. read more

I would really give this restaurant a 3.5 star review if possible. The food was good, but the service left a bit to be desired for the price point. I read all the reviews before hand and was prepared for a long wait to be seated, but my fiance wanted to try this restaurant for his birthday dinner as he loves seafood. Instead, we didn't eat lunch so we headed here for a very early 4 pm dinner. Unfortunately, none of us looked online to see if they were open at that time and they weren't. There is an outdoor, small cabana bar where we were able to grab a drink before dinner and sit outside. The cabana is also used for seating during dinner, so the bar closed right after we ordered a drink. Between 4 pm and 5 pm there is nowhere to sit, so we had to sit in the indoor lobby. After 4:30 a line started to form and a small crowd of us were sitting in the lobby. The lobby was not air conditioned, so it was very warm, and it was filled with flies from presumably leaving the door open. I have no idea why they didn't let us just sit on the bar on the inside. The poor host said every night she has to stand there in 85 degrees heat which is insane. I felt worse for her than any of us who were only there for 20-30 minutes. Once we were seated the restaurant is very nice and the view is top notch. It's a very small restaurant so seats are filled quickly. There was a small but interesting draught menu, but two of the 7 or so beers on the menu were not on tap that day which was pretty annoying. The waitress was good and even comped me a beer after accidentally giving me the wrong one when it was an honest and easy mistake. The seafood was excellent and we all enjoyed our meals. I am a vegetarian and there were some interesting options on the tapas menu. The fried cauliflower was very good. My fiance had the raw bar sampler and the seafood mix grill and said both were great. I went to this restaurant with my family for my Dads Birthday. One of my friends recommended it to me. To start, the breadsticks and bread were amazing! The breadsticks had and garlic and herbs on them. The bread had california raisins and figs. So good! I ordered the herb crusted halibut with collard greens and risotto. The halibut was moist and absolutely seasoned perfect. The risotto was also very good. My dad had the reef and beef. The filet was cooked to perfection and the lobster was the best I ever had. So moist and tasty. I work in manhattan and get to try a lot of restaurants. I have to say this is one the best meals I had this year. I will definitely go back. We were seated right away and our waitress was amazing! She helped us with choosing wine and giving us her input on the menu. I'm writing my first review of anything...ever. On June 21 my wife and I had made a reservation for our 50th wedding anniversary. It was for just the two of us. I confirmed with credit card. 50 years earlier we stayed in an upper efficiency apartment above restaurant for the first 3 days of our honeymoon. I'm now 75...and have difficulty walking...use a cane. I struggled up stairs to a group of young girls who looked up reservation and offered the two of us a high seat table which neither my wife or I could negotiate. We were led to a lower area literally behind a sand dune. When seated the chair sunk into the sand where we sat awkwardly for an hour and a half. On the food side...nothing exceptional. Server very pleasant. Hostess most detached from any sense of sensitivity I have ever experienced. I made her aware of occasion for being there, yet this was how we were treated. I could have had more of a view in a drainage pipe. You can write this off as an old man being a jerk....but wait...if your marriage lasts 50 years...it won't be because you were a jerk. I come here on special occasions because it is always amazing. I am always impressed by how unique and innovative the dishes are. From the salad to to soup to steak and seafood everything is fresh and mouth watering delicious! I highly recommend the crab bisque, the ABG house salad, raw oysters, lobster, glazed salmon, and everything on the tapas menu! The atmosphere is classy and beautiful, sometimes there is a piano player, makes me feel as if I've been transported to NYC- but I can't truly forget where I am with that beautiful ocean view. read more

Went to chef mike's for our last time. We had the Crispy Shrimp and Crab Flautas and Sautéed Buffalo Shrimp apps.. Both were terrible. The shrimp was bland and boring and the Crab Flautas tasted like a cheap app from trashy diner. Also had the Filet Mignon burgers. The Filets were tiny and the buns were soggy from the excess sauce they slopped on there... Wish I had better things to say about Chef Mike's, but it's been progressively getting worse over the past 5 years.. I've been several times and the food is always prepared the same way, absolutely perfect. I personally love the filet medallions, if you like crab and bleu cheese this is the meal for you. Ask for the funnel cake fries for dessert. Or anything. All of the food is great and the view is even better. The staff is helpful and knowledgeable.. have patience in the summer months. If you don't like crowds, come in the winter where they give 25% of your check every Thursday. I would highly recommend Chef Mike's again and again. But be prepared for hefty prices. Recently had dinner at this restaurant. Really very pleased with the service and food everything that we had exceeded our expectations. The wait staff was great went out of their way to make sure we had a pleasant dinning experience. The only negative was they didn't accept reservations under a party of 6. I do understand this policy in the summer but I was there on a wednesday in June. It was my friends birthday but the person really didn't want to hear anything.
