Lunch special. Curry chicken, Rice n peas, and steamed veggies.

Take out only. Call ahead as each order is prepared with care and attention to all of the Jamaican spices you love. Every bite was tantalizing to the tastebuds. Piping hot and bursting with flavor. Generous portion. Great value for lunch. Chef personally came out and was so sweet Wish I lived closer!!!

Ok so let me tell you something...South Florida is basically little Caribbean with representation from so many cultures. That being said Broward county is home to tons of Jamaicans and off course with that comes many authentic Jamaican food spots when you are craving some good Caribbean food! I have been to most of the options but had never heard about Chef Rose and his restaurant! I was in the area and searched on Yelp for top rated Jamaican food and his restaurant popped up to which I said let me give it a try and boy am I glad I did! This is by far the BEST Jerk Chicken that I have ever had and the portion sizes compliment the big bold flavors that you get from every bite! One thing also stood out to me on my visit was the wall of recognition. In his very modest and authentic space, there's a wall decorated with all of the accolades he received over the years and I can attest that each of them were well deserved. Chef Rose also ventured out from the kitchen to visit with me as I sat and waited on my food to be prepared as each dish is made to order so I highly recommend calling your order in before getting there because while the food is worth the wait, it does take between 20-30 minutes to prepare depending on what you order! This is the best tasting Jamaican food I have had!

Over peppered rice that had no other distinct flavor

We dined at Chef Rose today and had a mixed experience. The BBQ Jerk chicken, Curry Goat and sweet plantain were excellent, but we were disappointed by the rice and peas. It seemed excessively seasoned with black pepper, overpowering the other flavors on the plate. However, the most disappointing aspect of our visit was the abysmal customer service. the lack of attention from the staff significantly detracted from the overall dining experience. Between the fact that there was ZERO acknowledgement...not a "hello", or "I'll be right with you", even though we were the only customers there, and the long wait times (it appears they cook one plate at a time.. it took nearly an hour to get our 2 meals)- customer service clearly is just not a priority. Lastly, this is not a dine-in restaurant- it's really a take out spot that you should call and place the order an hour ahead. Inside there are no tables, just one long table facing the parking lot with 4 or 5 stools and 2 tables outside. I strive to give fair reviews and will not base on food or customer service alone, but an average of the overall experience .... 3 stars seems almost too high for what we experienced and for the price of over $50, but it's an honest review, that's what is most important.

Bang for your buck! Saw the reviews and had to try! We also suggest like everyone else to order early via phone. Depending on your order size it may take 30mins-1hr as things are made fresh. Seating is limited so most likely it'll be a takeout order. Since everyone said they ate before taking pictures, I took on the personal mission to let my phone eat first and boy did the smell made it tempting! Portions were huge and we realized we ordered (3 orders) a lot for 2 people. Jerk chicken $7: is spicy! There are more veggies than meat but that's a healthy portion. Oxtail $30: this was deliciously marinated and textured as the meat was still juicy and tender and fell right off the bone. Would get again. Chef Ital stew lunch special $10: lots of veggies. Sweet but with a slight spicy/peppery kick. Quinoa, lentils, chickpeas, pumpkin, callaloo, sweet potatoes, & herbs. Sweet plantains: Yum! Could never go wrong with this! Creamy/coconut grits. Cabbage: I dislike cabbage but it they somehow made it taste good! Friendly service as they all greeted us when we came to pick up our order.

I love the way he listens to your craving and makes it come to life, believe me you won't regret it. The natural flavors are to die for. Nothing was salty. I love the service I received, I love when owners are so down to earth, mingling with their customers. The owner explained every flavor and how he makes it. Everything is made from scratch, hence the "order ahead of time police. I'll definitely will be a returning customer over and over. Also try the Rasta pasta

They do not make your food until you get there to pay !!!!!! They will tell you 30 minutes over the phone , and when you get there you'll have to wait another 40 minutes for your food !!!!! Edit : The food is very mediocre ! Would not try again. The rice and peas look like it came from a container of Iberia. I had brown stew chicken, cabbage , rice and peas and salt fish fritters. I love rice and I can eye some good rice, I knew before I tasted the rice it wouldn't be good. Never again. Would have gotten oxtails but they're $40! I would have been mad if I bought them and they tasted like this chicken.

Holy smokes! Food is amazing! We ordered the oxtail, Rasta pasta, rice and peas and festival! 45 minute wait for the food as it's prepared fresh. Call ahead! No seating available in the restaurant. Tables and a few chairs outside could use A wipe down. . We chose not to eat there. Highly recommend this restaurant. The food is phenomenal!

Jerk chicken please. Had a craving and wanted to try a new spot. This brought me here. Small clean spot in a half empty shopping plaza with plenty of parking. It's a take out place only. You walk in, menu is on the right and order at the window. Food is fresh made to order so it's best to order ahead or you'll be waiting around 20 minutes or so depending on much you're ordering. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and dumpling. And also an order of salt fish fritters. Loved the jerk chicken but did not care for the sides. The salt fish fritters were very "meaty" and tasty. Solid spot for some jerk chicken. Would try their shrimp n grits next time.

So I decided to go get some authentic Jamaican food since the commercial location by my job curry chicken triggered a migraine ( dnt ask me what they're putting in there). I went to an old spot I used to go to in the area and it was closed. My heart was broken so I decided to start googling places close by and this place showed up. It had great reviews on Google & Yelp but you knw the internet lies. I said screw it let's give it a try. So I get to the shopping plaza and it was like a small spot.... I consider that a Win & puts me closer to authentic levels. I spoke to Chef Rose and he told Me orders are made to order so it would take like 30 minutes..... I was like ehhhhh I'm here so imma make it do what it do. The location only has a few places to sit & it's a bar top. They sold different types of drinks and had a wide variety menu. The restaurant was clean not a lot of decor. I added a lemonade to my Order and it came in a mason jar which is super cute. They home make the Sorel, lemonade and fruit punch. They also had some beers and sodas available. My food was packaged nicely with aluminum foil on the inside and it was Saran wrapped which I'm here for cuz no one wants curry Stains everywhere. So I got the curry chicken and rice and peas. The presentation was great and the curry chicken had so much stuff in it. This is my 1st time ever having boneless curry chicken. It was love at 1st bite. The rice was well Cooked and the curry chicken was packed with flavor. I truly enjoyed my Meal and even though it was 20-ish minutes from my job, I've ordered it multiple times within a 2 week period. The lemonade was sweet but so good ( I made sure it was sweet before I got it). I will say that he has good customer service, is personable and the food is so good. And very filling. There wasn't any skimping on the potions size. I think this spot is really a gem. If you're ordering over the phone the food is ready in like 30-ish minutes. If you place an Uber eats order I would recommend giving them a call To confirm how long your order will take because It might be longer than the 30 Minutes ( that's if you're picking up). The 2nd time I went I got fried dumplings with my curry chicken and it was fried to perfection. The outside was golden brown and the inside was super soft. The dumplings weren't over fried and they were delicious. Overall, This is def my new spot. Now because of his cooking style His curry sauce is thicker than what I'm used to but I had o let him Know I need more gravy for all that rice and he was very accommodating. He also has some vegan and vegetarian options which was supe cool to see. This spot is def worth a try.

    Vegan Rasta Pasta
    Damilet H.

If you're looking for amazing Caribbean flavor this is the place to go. I will say that I ordered Rasta pasta and when I got home I realized there was only veggies.. I never said vegan so I'm not sure if they have a regular version however I was not offered the option for meat when ordering.. this is not your traditional version and not at all what I was expecting but the flavor was pretty good, I'd defunitedly call it veggie pasta haha or pumpkin pasta as the flavor was not at all like Rasta pasta.. the winner of the night though was the curry snapper, with rice and peas and plantain .. this dish was absolutely amazing and I'd go back for that alone! I also tried the curry coconut wings which were very super yummy and cooked to perfection. I suggest calling ahead, it's not a sit down place and all the food is made to order so you can customize it however you'd like.

    Oxtail dish
    Rene R.

I discovered this restaurant at SOBEWFF - Goya Tent Event in Miami 2023. I only had their oxtail and peas and rice and it was delicious, tender and succulent. I wish I lived local and was able to have this dish more often but I highly recommend it to my fellow yelps in the area.

Found this spot from the reviews and we've been back 4x since. We have said we were going to leave a review every time but always forget because the food is so good. It's incredibly difficult to get photos before you eat so if you don't see more reviews on here, please know it's not because this place isn't good. It's because this place is so good that the food is just too good that you can't even take 3 seconds to take a picture. This food is so good that last time, we ordered it from Uber Eats and the driver stole our food. If you like real, authentic Jamaican food that tastes like your grandma put her soul into it, just do yourself a favor and eat here. Your soul will thank you. Also, yes, this place is slow. Everything is made to order so it takes forever. If you've ever been to a meal with someone who really COOKS, it takes like an hour. *Note: the photos below are after we ate everything. Not reflective of how much food actually comes in the plate. As I said, the food is hard to get photos of.

It's a small, mom-and-pop-like shop which of course is the best kind of restaurant IMO. When I walked in, everything smelled amazing and all the food was covered up, which I can appreciate for cleanliness purposes. I was greeted by a smiling and upbeat Simone, who is super warm and welcoming. This was a very pleasant surprise given how my beautiful Jamaican people do not always get the best rep for customer service (IYKYK). I ordered the oxtail, rice and peas and some jerk chicken. Simon gave me a beautiful, and packed plate. The rice and peas was SOO good, I was happy just eating it by itself. The oxtail pieces were big and juicy and FALL-OFF-THE-BONE good. The cabbage had a distinct color and flavor that I LOVED. I give the overall plate a 9/10 only because I didn't get any carrots with the oxtail or sweet plantains in my order which I personally prefer and personally feel should come with oxtail meals. Also because while the jerk chicken LOOKED AMAZING and was nice enough, it didn't pack as much flavor as I would like and they didn't have a signature sauce with it (again, a personal preference, try it yourself, to see how YOU feel). Overall, this was an awesome experience. I would definitely eat here again and strongly encourage you to give it a try if you haven't yet, even just to experience the pleasure of meeting Simone.

We arrived around 11 PM on a Friday and the place had great energy. It was lively without feeling overwhelming, and a few tables looked like they were celebrating special occasions, which added to the vibe. The music was excellent and honestly brought back a bit of that nostalgic, high school party feel in the best way. We ordered a couple of drinks and they were definitely strong and well made. The service stood out just as much as the atmosphere. The owner was incredibly pleasant and attentive, checking in with us several times to make sure we were taken care of. You could tell she genuinely cared about the guests. I also learned the owners are Trini and Guyanese, which I loved because it added a nice personal touch to the experience. As a first time visitor, I really appreciated that she thanked us for coming when we left. It made the experience feel welcoming and personal. I'll definitely be back to try the food. As a vegetarian, I'm hoping to make a special request since there aren't many Chinese vegetarian options on the menu, but I'm confident they'll accommodate it. We left after 1 AM and people were still coming in, so it's clearly a popular late night spot. Great location right off University with plenty of parking, which makes it super convenient. Overall, a great night, great energy, and a place I'll be returning to.

The location is not in the best neighborhood, and by looks of their front door (iron bars), it very well might be an unsafe area. The restaurant inside is clean, I'll give them that. Tables and floors were well kept and wiped down after guests left. There were a couple ladies behind the counter who were friendly and gave us some time to review the menu. Jason and I both ordered the same thing, goat curry (curry goat) with rice and peas and it came side a small side of steamed cabbage and a few sweet plantains as well. We took our food to go and all the way home it smelled go good! Immediately when I opened the container I knew right away, it was going to be a hit or miss (for me). The color or the goat was very yellow, which means, this curry was more turmeric than actual curry power. Being from the Caribbean, you know the difference between the 2 things.... Nevertheless, we ate, and we both liked the food, it was not something that I felt like I could not stop eating, nor thought 'wow I can't wait to go back'. The meat of the goat was tender for sure. The flavors that I'm familiar with, were not there. And I understand that this might be the restaurant's way of cooking, and their style, and that's totally ok, it's just for me this was not one of my favorite Jamaican spots.

Moving on with our review; everything was excellent! The griot had a nice crispy exterior but was tenderly seasoned inside. The lassot was surprisingly moist and crispy too. To include, the contrast of the onions marinated with the green seasoning on top. The rice & peas were cooked perfectly as they were light as air and plantains were crispy & salted nicely too. The pate codes were huge in size and flavor as well! My preference would be the original over the fish, but they both packed a tangy, savory, and spicy punch! Moreover, we had the pleasure of meeting and being served by the owner, who was very friendly and attentive. At the time, I was…read moreeager to try the local restaurants and find a spot that could be one of my "regular" places. The first few times I visited Chelly's there was always a pretty decent sized line (a mark of a good restaurant usually). I'm no stranger to island food, but I also don't know many of the dishes all too well so I always have questions. The first few times I came I met Chelly, the owner of the establishment. She was warm and welcoming and took time to explain what everything was even knowing that there was a line to get her delicious food. I ordered the chicken curry as my first choice with rice and peas, cabbage, and a Jamaican beef patty. The food was OUTSTANDING! Flavorful, fresh, full of character and the portions are BIG so it's a great value. They had earned my business from day one and since then I had been coming back on and off when I was craving Jamaican food. Fast forward to today, I'm still a loyal customer and I want to say...this is the friendliest, most welcoming restaurant I have ever been to. Sam usually takes care of me and always greets me when I come in, she's personable, and loved getting to know the clientele to the point where she remembers conversations you shared and will ask you "hey how's _____ going?" I really love the welcoming atmosphere. The thing is, it's not just her.....her husband Matthew, is the same way! He's super nice, super welcoming, takes the time to explain the food, gives samples, even sometimes hooks me up with a little extra on the house. It doesn't stop there though....Viannie is also just as nice, friendly, welcoming and enjoyable to be served by. The whole establishment is bursting with personality and friendly attitudes. THIS is something I highly value and has seemingly become lost in this post-pandemic world. Not at Chelly's, they take pride in not only serving up delicious food full of flavor and soul, but also serving it up with a smile and attitude that warrants becoming a regular. If you haven't dined here, or aren't sure about dining here....drop what you're doing and give this place a try. Also worth mentioning, their lunch special deal for 6.99 is a TREMENDOUS value given the size of the portions and the freshness of the food. Small businesses such as Chelly's need your support. We are living in a capitalist world and big name businesses are running small businesses out. Don't let that happen, support your local establishments and family owned businesses. Chelly's has earned my business for life and they should earn yours too.
