Sherman's Deli & Bakery - Pastrami on rye with cole slaw

Ordered the New York style hot pastrami on rye with coleslaw and a Dr. Brown's Cream Soda. The pastrami was the highlight. Piled high, tender, and full of that classic deli flavor with just the right amount of richness. The rye bread held everything together well and had a nice bite to it. It's the kind of sandwich you have to take a second to look at before figuring out how to eat it. The coleslaw was fresh and crisp, a good balance to the sandwich, and the cream soda was cold and refreshing. Also ordered a slice of pistachio cake to go. Absolutely delicious. The place has that old school deli feel, busy but in a good way, and full of character. Service was friendly and efficient even with the crowd. Definitely a spot worth stopping at if you're in Palm Desert and want a proper deli sandwich.

Service was excellent. Seated immediately and ordering minutes later. Got extra cream cheese on request and our coffees were diligently refilled. The main attraction was the pastrami sandwich. Totally to my wife's taste, extremely lean and stacked high. She had to take half home. I tried an omelette with corned beef and loved it. The everything bagel was perfectly acceptable, not too "bready." So: service good, pastrami good, and bagel good. Everything good about a deli is covered.

We had a variety of nigiri - the standouts were the uni, the chu-toro, and the mackerel. Dragon roll was also good. Sake selection was surprisingly great, although being lunch we didn't partake. Give this place a shot! You won't be disappointed.

We walked in at 1:00 and were promptly seated, even as the place had a full house of lunch eaters, some in booths, some at tables, a few at the sushi bar. This might be @ regular thing, as the staffing was at a high level, including four sushi chefs, in an oval "kitchen", surrounded by the other booths and tables. Not too noisy, even with 4 tv's on different channels. The menu is extensive and requires a few minutes to absorb, but we were not hurried. My sweetie ordered her favorites, miso soup, edamame, hamachi and a spicy tuna roll. All were excellent and fresh tasting, and the miso was different than what we have had before, including more mushrooms, but it disappeared into our mouths quickly. I ordered a lunch special, which included rice, miso soup, and a bento box of salad, chicken teriyaki and some of the best tempura I have ever eaten, one large shrimp piece and four vegetables. There was so much that we needed a take out box and a half. We will be back for lunch for sure. Parking depends on the time, as it is in a Gelson-anchored center, with several other stores, businesses, a barber shop and a bank. We did not use it, but they also have a full bar. I should mention that, for a positive review, one can claim a free ice cream, probably the green tea variety, but we did not avail ourselves of that offer. Don't want to be accused of (smile) accepting a bribe

While standing in line, I realize there's no menu on the wall like they used to be. So I walked towards the front of the line to read the menu and everybody there. I thought I was trying to cut them which almost started an argument with the other people in line. I wasn't trying to cut. I was trying to read the damn menu. This is the stupidest setup that I've ever seen for an order menu. When that person was done, I picked up the menu so I could view it closer as I do not have my singing glasses with me and the menu was tiny little print out of a regular printer. So then the next guy started freaking out like I was trying to cut in line. The people here on this valley (many foreigners) are too stupid for you to have your menus like this. You need to put them back up on the wall. Or else have several of them so that people standing in line can see what they want to order before they get up to the order window. Why would you take down your menu off the wall and replace it with a tacky piece of paper with a three dollar menu stand? I don't know it just seems like it's an awful confusing mess right now. All these people in the photo are trying to take turns looking at that menu. Everybody's cutting in front of each other to try to see it. I can't believe your employees haven't said something. You seriously need to fix this.
