Disclaimer, this review will be based off a dining in experience on Aug 8th. The restaurant was a bit warm as we arrived, we almost debated leaving! Given the weather, we decided to still give it a shot since this location was on our must try list. We were greeted immediately by friendly staff who offered us to seat anywhere we'd like. Cold beer on summer special ($5-$6) fixed my partner back up for a moment until we felt the AC kick back on. lol. We had the Bistro Burger with Truffle Fries and the Oinker with Tater Tots. I was excited to try the Oinker after seeing they had fresh pork belly posted on their instagram that day. The Bistro was DELICIOUS! Unfortunately, I wasn't a huge fan of the Oinker after trying my partner's Bistro burger. The combination of ingredients felt dry, the burger wasn't as hot, and I realized there was no cheese in this either. What's a burger without cheese? :( I wish the server forewarned me! Maybe a grilled onion would also be better suited? I also asked for a side of their lemon aioli for my fries, and ended up adding this to my burger to add some extra sauce. The tater tots and fries were perfectly crisp. And I usually don't finish my fries, but we ate every last bite of these plates. Overall, great! The food was good overall and definitely satisfied the burger craving. The experience, however, was a little mixed. The service felt a bit awkward at times, and a few interactions with the staff just rubbed me the wrong way. Nothing major, just an odd vibe. The location itself could have been a little cleaner and more polished. I also noticed the Guy Fieri feature on the wall--which is cool--but at the end of the day, the food and experience still have to speak for themselves. Wow! After several "fancy" dinners, we were just looking for a burger spot. Found it! We were seated immediately upon arriving and our waiter, Joshua, who was extremely attentive all night, came over to greet us and get our drink order. We started out with the Drunken Tots. Wonderful! For dinner, I ordered the Turkey burger, and my husband and grandson each ordered the Bistro Burger. The burgers were loaded with all kinds of yummy toppings and we all enjoyed each bite. SHORT ANSWER: Yes, you should go give this place a shot, it is excellent. LOCATION: Nice location along the 111 near Portola, lots of parking. FACILITY: Very nice, funky inside and well designed. I dined alone outside so did not get in to see too much but it looks fun. MENU: Lots of stuff, maybe nothing too healthy or too small. So if you're going to visit I'd bring a friend to share or run an extra 5 miles that morning. FOOD PREP: Excellent, very nice way above diner food, it looks urban appropriate. FOOD QUALITY: Wow, the ABC sandwich was delicious, sourdough bread was toasted perfect so as not to rip your mouth off when taking a bit. Fries were very, very good, I had to stop myself. Fun, small but comfy place to eat. Some high tops and mostly low tops. Burger selection is perfect not too many varieties, just right. They also have salads, and chicken! We came early and was seated quickly, this place has a nice atmosphere and friendly staff. We ordered the duck wings, crisp, sweet and savory, enjoyed by everyone! The drunken tots were good, a bit too salty and the braised short ribs were sparse but lots of chorizo. Every component was salted extra well which made the end product a bit too salty. Still it was good and everyone at the table devoured it. We ordered the kids a side of fries and a grilled cheese with fries. The grilled cheese came out, but we had to ask for the extra side of fries. The kids enjoyed it and the fries are very crispy and delicious. The burgers came out and the ultimate surf & turf was huge! It had chunks of lobster on this delicious burger patty and the Laguna Baja lager paired very well with this burger. Delicious!!! The hangman was also very good, the egg was not very runny, kind of a medium well, but still very tasty. We couldn't taste any tabasco in the aioli and over all it was pretty tasty. Joshua was our waiter and was amazing, told him it was our first time and he explained the menu and gave recommendations, very friendly and attentive. I got the hangman which was AMAZING, cooked to perfection, I also got the maple cinnamon fries which were okay, I wish I would have got the sweet potato fries instead. My husband got the smash burger and made it a double, he said it was delicious and had a hard time finishing the burger because of the generous portions. Amazing burger restaurant all around. Service was impeccable. Our server explained how everything is made fresh and offered helpful suggestions. Ticket times were fast, for a family of 4 we didn't have to wait long at all. Food quality was great! The carmelized onions in the Bistro Burger were so good! French fries, and tater tots were crispy and perfectly seasoned. What truly made the meal standout was the dessert. My son ordered the chocolate chip bread pudding with house made whipped cream and caramel, and it was my absolute favorite meal. I would go there just for that, it was so good. This was our first visit to Gastro Grind Burgers. The service was fine, the menu had just the right number of selections, and they did have a few low (normal) tables mixed among the high-tops (where we can't sit). We each had the standard backyard burger with fries and onion rings. We both thought the burger was excellent, perfectly grilled and very flavorful. The fries and onion rings were also perfect, hot and crispy. I had a pickle spear (not something I usually mention in reviews) but it was perfect, crispy, a little sour and a little dilly. My lunch partner said it was the best burger he'd ever eaten! The missing star is for a couple of minor issues. We ended up being seated near the restroom and all through lunch I could smell the deodorizer from in inside. There were TV's which I hate to have on while I eat, and the background music was too loud. I am positive that we will return soon for another burger on the menu and we do highly recommend Gastro Grind Burgers. read more

We were greeted promptly and told we could sit anywhere we'd like. They have tables and high tops to choose from. There are three TVs with various sports games playing. There's also several pics of the time Guy Fieri filmed an episode of Triple D in 2022. After having their burgers, we can def see why. There wa only one server, but he gave everyone great service and made sure we had everything we needed. They bring their own meat for the burgers and it shows. You can choose the doneness for your burger and ours came out perfectly medium rare and juicy. I had the bistro Burger and hubby had the Bison Burger and added a bun as that burger comes protein-style, wrapped in lettuce. The fries were crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. They have cocktails, beer and a limited house wine selection. I'm actually glad I don't live in Palm Desert because I'd eat waaaay too many burgers here! read more

Visited 3/4/2025 Well I've been wanting to come here for a long time. Saw it on Dinners Drive-ins and Dives and Guy Fieri tried The Famous Ultimate Surf & Turf Lobster Burger. Well we tried that one and also The Smokey. The Lobster Burger was tasty but the lobster was not moist Butter Poached as the menu suggests. Still it had good flavor and overall was a very tasty Burger although not worth The $33.00 Price tag. The Smokey Burger was very good with White Cheddar Cheese and Smoked Bacon. It wasn't far out of line at $22.00 for the area. I would definitely have it again. The Fries were Very good that come with all burgers. I did the upgrade to Onion Rings $2.50 more. Sadly they were extremely overcooked hard and burned in flavor. When I told them they did nothing to compensate me for serving a bad side dish. They should have at least taken off my bill the extra $2.50. In my opinion isn't worth loosing a customer over such a small amount of money. Service was friendly and very good all except not offering much of an apology for the burnt Onion Rings. Most Likely I won't Be back in the future but hopefully they see my Yelp Review and take more care on food prep. Burgers are pricy but quite good. read more

We had finished a game of golf and were looking for a good, casual dinner. Gaston Grinds Burgers is in a strip mall and has ample parking and indoor and outdoor seating. Staff is very friendly. The ambiance is fun. I ordered a Negroni (they have Negronis!) and the hubs ordered a beer. The Negroni was good, but I had to scoop a bunch of ice out because this isn't a coke, yo. I chose this spot because I'm down for a good turkey burger and they have one on the menu. I had high hopes because there was an aoli and white cheddar. The turkey burger was moist, but that's where the good stopped. No flavor. Bland. It had lots of toppings, but really needed some flavor. I added the stellar pickle from my plate and that improved it. Not a fan of the potato bun. The hubs got the Smokey burger, which he said was very good and flavorful with a lot going on. He would have liked more sauce, but that could just be him. He wasn't a fan of the bun either. The major standout was the fries. You get regular fries in a metal cup with the burger, or you can upgrade to onion rings, truffle or garlic fries or tater tots. We got the garlic fries, which were crispy, flavorful and delish! I think the metal cup keeps them hot, which is a major plus! Not a bad spot for a casual meal. read more

A week later I'm still thinking about my burger - that's how good it was! I got the Smokey Burger (it was really hard to choose from the amazing selection, but perhaps that Guy Fieri recommendation put me over the edge for it). The red bell peppers were perfect, and I subbed pepper jack cheese for the standard swiss. But what stands out above all is the fact they grind their own meat daily (combo of chuck, brisket, and I think one more?) which means I was confident ordering medium-rare since it wasn't pre-frozen or oxidized with the opportunity for bacterial infestation after sitting around for who knows how long. And WOW! The texture and flavor of the patty are still on my mind a week later!!! Can't wait to go back and try the king mushroom next, or the surf n turf with lobster! And I usually go bunless, opting for lettuce wrap. They had that option but it was a $2 extra charge so I stuck with the bun for this first try and it was a really good bun. There were six of us on a Saturday night looking for someplace to eat. We found Gastro Grind Burgers and reserved a table for six with Mike. We arrive at the the restaurant and are quickly seated at our table. Mike ended up being our waiter as well. We ordered an assortment of beers. Most of us ordered one of the burgers while I ordered the Steak Frites. Everyone said that their burgers were delicious and perfectly prepared as ordered. My steak was also delicious with a nice Demi glacé and compound butter atop crispy French fries. My partner had the Smokey Burger and he said it was the best burger he had in a long time. Incredibly attentive customer service and delicious burgers! We came on a Thursday night and we able to get seated right away. The ambiance at Gastro Grind is very dive-bar feely and the indoor space feels to be on the smaller side, but what I really appreciated was the amazing and friendly service. Our server checked in on us often, wiped down our table mid-meal, and offered nice conversation and helpful tips to us as we were checking out the restaurant being from out of town. As for the food, we started with their "Crispy Brussels" ($14.50) which was solid and I also got their "Bistro Burger" ($23.50) which includes a side of fries. The burger was on the smaller end but every bite was delicious! The portion size of the fries was also small but the fries were crispy and good. I also got an order of their "Panzanella" salad ($18) but I probably would pass on this next time as the salad felt a bit lacking in terms of toppings and not worth the $18 price tag. For dessert, we ended our meal with their "bread pudding" ($13) which was a sweet and delicious way to finish up our night. I came here with my husband and two small children while on vacation. The restaurant had great reviews and we were in the mood for burgers. We got here around 530 and there was a small line. This was our first clue that the restaurant was majorly understaffed. There were several dirty tables needing to be bussed and two servers handling the entire dining room, hosting, and bussing. And it seemed like there was only one (maybe two) cooks in the kitchen. So there was a lot of waiting- waiting to be sat, waiting to get our table cleaned, waiting for drink order to be taken, waiting to order food...the server was apologetic and kind- she's not to blame. The food was really good. We split the bistro burger and sweet potato fries- both delicious. Kids split the kids burger and liked it. I also got the berry and beet salad and wow, that was phenomenal. It was pricy but well priced for such a hearty salad. Sometimes restaurants will price things high and still skimp on the item but this salad was plentiful in its toppings and I really really loved it. Another review mentioned a 25% surcharge. Phenomenal!!!!! Absolutely would come here again ( and did!) The place was recommended to us by a fellow golfer we got teamed up with. The burgers are delicious and all of the options look amazing! Really made it hard to choose! The salad I got was soooo good, I actually came and got it for take out the next night! Take out was def not as good as dine in, but it never is. The staff here is super friendly and just seem really kind. The whole place is cute. The only downside is the alcohol is EXPENSIVE!
