Recently went to Chef Wang's Chinese Restaurant to celebrate my daughters 25th Birthday. She wanted really good Chinese Food, and since the weather was not the best, we decided to skip the trip to Flushing and stay local. Based on internet reviews, Chef Wang's was a rare Chinatown quality restaurant on Long Island. In general, food quality was good, not great. Scallion pancakes were nothing special. Pork dumplings were tasty but on the small side. General Tao's Chicken was good but could have used more sauce. Overall, portion size did not impress. Service was so-so. Seems like the wait staff lost interest in our table once the order was placed. Not sure I would go back to Chef Wang's. I have been to better Chinese Restaurant on Long Island. read more

Dirty and bland! My dish came with peppers in it and the sticker was still on one of the peppers. To me that would indicate that the produce wasnt washed. Before this discovery, my fiance and I were talking about how disappointed we were about the flavor of the meal from the first bite. Food was very good and the place was very pretty. It had a real relaxing Asian vibe. My only issue is that my group of 4 each ordered appetizers and they were brought out 5 minutes apart. This is my go to Chinese restaurant. They make great authentic Chinese food, not those nasty cheap american Chinese food. My only concern with them is that they seem to have different chef everyday. I mean for most of the time, the food is great, but once in a while, the food tastes completely different. Also, for spicy food, I always order mild. For the same dishes, sometimes it's not spicy at all, but sometimes it is soooooo spicy. read more

So disappointed and just... baffled. Just flew into NY and put in an online order for pick-up at Chef Wang. Showed up to the restaurant to be told that they were "too busy to fulfill the order". Asked if they would fill it while we waited and they just said no--literally, just "No". First of all, don't accept online orders if you're not going to fill them. Second, what's the difference if we're going to sit there and wait for a to-go order or sit down and take one of your tables? Would highly recommend NOT frequenting Chef Wang. Food is ok- maybe a step up from an average fast food joint in any neighborhood. Service took way to long for a Chinese restaurant, which was frustrating. The place was big which was about the only real positive as most Chinese restaurants are small and tight. But the real reason for the 1 star is when these guys attempted to run my credit card they said it wasn't working, which was impossible. They said they made 4 attempts but my cc company said that 0 attempts were made. Plus this particular card has no ceiling limit and never doesn't work unless they feel there has been a fraudulant charge. But they did not see any Chef Wang charges. I have had this happen before but only in like 7-11 type places. They did not want to be the interest fee that this company charges so obviously lied about trying to put the charges through. Sleazy, cheap, lowbrow, and sneaky. There are too many places with much better food and service, or just better food and no expectations of service (try any Panda fast food joint). To be honest with you, I have been in different Asian cuisine restaurants. And I can tell you that the attention was really good, overall outside the place looks neat! Until you go to the bathroom. It was disgusting. Pee all over the floor and smells terrible. About the food. Not chef on Saturdays night......? Not so great as others mention. I have tried better dishes in Manhattan and Flushing for same or little more price. I could give 2.5 stars for good service and good looking place from outside. For the $$ you pay. Recommended by friend... But she forgotten to remind me that I should have brought my own sauces and ingredients, apparently it is a DIY place that I need to cook myself. An hour later after putting in an order, failing to get any attention from any waiter, or got the attention but had no idea what happened to my ordered dishes, and why I kept asking for tea refills, which never got filled. I probably would concur with all the reviews if I got to taste it. I had only tasted the overcooked shrimp and left in disgust. Unbelievable is the best word to describe this wonderful traditional eatery. My wife and I happened to see it on restaurant hunters and we were so enthralled we had to go check it out. Food and service here are top notch. The sweet and sour flounder is amazing! The Young Chow Fried rice is quite awesome as well. I've had well over a dozen items from the menu over the many times I've been there and have yet to be let down by them. Portions are great (actually a little much, but nice to take some home). My spouse selected this restaurant a few weeks ago. We ordered the All-You-Can-Eat Hot Pot at $30 per person. The food was exceptional, but we were very disappointed with the service of the restaurant due to understaffing - it was clear management did not have enough staff for the volume of customers. Although we ordered the All-You-Can-Eat Hot Pot, no one came by during our meal to check on us and ask us if we wanted additional items. As such, we never ordered or received anything more than the original dish ingredients. When we asked for our check, we had to wait 15 minutes before it came. Still, I give a 20 percent tip. Although the food was good, the service and friendliness of the staff was poor. I give 4 stars for the food and 2 stars for service, so, an overall score of 3 stars. The floor in the dining room was very slippery like a skating ring. Richard, the owner needs to hire more experienced and friendly wait staff that can speak English. read more

So our family was seriously craving some good Chinese food and and at the recommendation of a colleague we just placed and travelled over 20 minutes to pick it up as so many other restaurants serving asian food are closed during the pandemic. We place and recieved a very large order from this place. Regrettably, I must say that we did not like any of the food and could not continue eating it. We ordered the shrimp and broccoli (shrimp were cleaned) but had absolutely No flavor, just stir fried and combined with brown water as a sauce. Shrimp Fried rice also had no flavor. 2 orders of pan fried pork dumplings which would have been ok if they weren't burnt on the bottom instead of lightly browning them and my daughter what she did eat was too chewy. General Tso's chicken was also largely lacking flavor and sauce, it only had slight tinge of heat from old slices of chili pepper and the chicken was very dry. Lo Mein was extremely bland..I don't even think they even attempted to season it with or saute it with any sauce or whatever one might use to flavor it and I don't mean using Msg. Needless to say over $80 was wasted! I will never return to this restaurant. The only nice thing I can honestly say is that the customer service was good, lady that took my phone order was very nice! Service was good. The food wasn't exceptional, the hot and sour soup lacked flavor and the rice was undercooked.

We walked in on a Saturday afternoon. We weren't expecting much. As soon as you walk in there's a huge water fountain. Its a huge restaurant with plenty of seating. We were greeted immediately and seated immediately. I had the average chicken and broccoli with Brown rice and dumplings in the side. My hubby had the beef chow fun. (His usual) We werent expecting much but when the dumplings came out, I was quite impressed. They were vegetable steamed dumplings and they were very hot, fresh, and very soft. They had a great taste also and I was loving them. The chicken with broccoli was very good and the brown rice was soft. Thats a plus because i find that my brown rice is always so hard. Why cant anyone cook the brown rice correctly? The chicken was very fresh and soft and the broccoli was so good. My plate was very big (I prefer small plates) and I ate my entire food, including the brown rice. My hubby liked his beef chow fun although he complained that the plate was small (He prefers extremely large plates). They are very quick and the food came out fast and I love that our food was extremely hot. I hate when dishes come out and they are warm. It makes me feel like they been sitting there all day. Remind me not to follow the recommendations of Joanne Starkey of the NY Times. She loved the scallion pancakes and the soup dumplng here, so we tried them. The former was crisp and grease free and crepe like, but devoid of flavor, except for the dipping sauce. Similar, the juicy soup buns stuck to the paper in the bamboo steamer and thus leaked broth before I could put them in my spoon. The fillings offered a hint of ginger, but the thick dough tasted as it was not completely cooked. Fried cumin beef had spark, but also saltiness and was an overmatch for the lightly spiced Sichuan fried rice. Plain steamed rice worked better. The wine list is useless and should I return, I will BYOB, if permitted. I went with beer and would have preferred a colder Tsingtao Beer. The dining room is cavernous and tables are filled with Asian clientele. Did I miss something? Perhaps a second visit will provide enlightenment. read more

The workers here are NASTY! I placed an order for delivery, in addition to $50 worth of orders for family, I ordered a chicken tempora roll for myself- it came covered it red caviar. I am allergic to caviar so I called them up & offered to pay for a new order without the caviar. After talking to about 4 different people and being put on hold for over 5 minutes I was finally told I could only places new order for delivery if a new $15+ order was made. I asked if they could make an exception since I just ordered $50+ of food & they very rudely refused. The cashier in store is also extremely rude. Food is bland. Wow.... Idk if I will ever be able to eat Americanized Chinese food ever again! I heard about this place from yelp and bookmarked it to try but after a neighbor boasted about the food I had to have it right away. So I called them up and the nicest guy answered the phone, I could hear the hustle and bustle in the background so I knew they were busy but being that I never ordered there and didn't know the cuisine the nicest man helped me to put together an order and when it came maybe 30 minutes later I couldn't have been happier. We started with the mango chicken wings which were delightful- the saltiness of the sauce accented the fresh mango cubes perfectly. We also had the scallion pancakes which were basically the same as everywhere else. The Dan Dan noodles were very good, we never tried them before and we were quite pleased with their savory flavor. Lastly we had the tilapia filet that you see in the pics smothered with the chopped veggies.... omg... DELICIOUS!!!! They give you the sauce on the side when taking out to keep the correct texture intact. They sent us 2 huge talapia filets.. nicely fried to a golden brown - delicious just like that but When you pour the veggies in that very nicely spiced sauce on top of the fish your tastebuds will be in heaven. Wonderful! We were vey impressed with our first Chef Wang experience and now that we have menus will be ordering again real soon. We Can't wait to go in person, which will be in the near future. The food here is fantastic, one of my all-time favorite restaurants. Everything we get is delicious. I love that when you order something spicy, it actually comes out spicy! They have a great variety of unique dishes, and are spot-on all the time. The service is always great for us. Restaurants used to open in this location and close within months before trying again. My review is based on more service because I did not have a chance to try the food. I came here with some friends for take out, & I wanted to switch some things & replace them for something I prefer but the guy up front was very rude. I offered to pay more & he kept saying no you can't have that in a very snobby way. I have been to plenty of places where they are more than happy to satisfy their customers if they would like something switched. If there is a certain way they like to do things, fine but there also is a way to express it & he was being rude about. Went here with family on Christmas Day for a late lunch, loved the ambiance, the staff is very friendly and the food is delicious our table had. Mongolian beef, sesame shrimp, sesame chicken and chicken with broccoli. If your going to eat here keep in mind when ordering the food is family style in size we shared and we all took food home, they give you nice big portions. I walked in looking for a good Chinese restaurant. My goal was to try 3 dishes and make recommendations to my group for weekly dinners. I started and ended with Beef Chow Fun. I had two bites of this oil filled burnt beef dish and gave up. The noodles were drenched in oil and super over cooked. I could not continue to order other dishes. This was the worst chow fun I have ever had. The waiter offered to refund my check and I decided not to take him up on that. This review is based on the Beef Chow Fun only. This is probably my worst experience in resturants. The servise was so bad that I felt I was disrespected there. Also, they randamly put dishes on the table and not even said a word to us, like they really wanted us to finish it ASAP. At the end of dinner, they asked for double-tax tips, whis was 20%. I mean if they offerred a better service, I was willing to give higher tips. And is 15% tips not enough ? I will never go there any more. read more
