Crab Meat Soup Dumplings (6 Pieces) (6)

The decor of this restaurant is amazing. It's designed like an old Chinese restaurant. I wanted to rate this place better but the food just wasn't that great. The portions are small and the prices are high. The soup dumpling wasn't the best and the chicken was an extremely dry. Maybe I ordered the wrong items or it was busy.

One of the best dining experiences I've had. The hunan spicy beef with the pan fried noodles were perfection. And every dumpling was mind blowing.

Fantastic experience at CheLi. Having been to both the Manhattan and Flushing locations, I think this one is the best. We had the smoked chicken which was was torched in flames at the table, then a wooden hammer was used to knock down the clay covering, the lotus leaves were unwrapped to reveal the chicken which was then doused in the most delicious sauce. So good!! We also had the crystal river shrimp which was decent, and pear entremet dessert which was a delightful way to end the meal. Great environment and thoughtful, attentive service from start to finish.

Cheli is my favorite place to get a more upscale (but not totally breaking the bank) Shanghainese meal. The restaurant itself is very vibey with an asian-themed interior. The tables are on the smaller size though so it can be hard to accommodate larger groups. My favorite dishes are the black truffle soup dumplings (perfect amount of truffle taste), crab noodles (saucey and comes with vinegar on the side which i recommend adding most of for a balanced flavor) , squirrel fish (sweet and sour profile), eggplant (super saucey perfect to be eaten with rice), and the Kao fu (refreshing cold appetizer). Everything is flavorful, but the sauce from the eggplant and squirrel fish is pretty sweet and strong so definitely have some white rice ready to eat with everything!

What an amazing restaurant. The ambiance is so Shang Hai. You can't deny the decor transports you away to a wonderful food experience. The food also was just so flavorful and delicious. No lacking in authenticity here. The staff is attentive and respectful. Not your typical Flushing rush-in-out style. You get to sit and relax and enjoy a great meal. Please come and stop by. You won't be disappointed.

Ate here today with my parents and sister for dinner trying out for the first time. We definitely got different kinds of dishes to eat together that it tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive and super fast. We couldn't agree more about it. Finally I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

Came here with friends to try something new. It's was actually not bad. The shrimp and noodles flavor was great. The eel in a crepe wrap was unique but we didn't love. The fish wasn't bad and the beef was the best thing there. Vegetables you can't go wrong. The dessert was meh. But the service was pretty good. Overall it was a good experience.

Food 4/5 Service 4/5 Atmosphere 5/5 This place had really nice atmosphere. The food overall tasted good but I wasn't too impressed given the price. I tried drunken chicken, duck, squirrel fish. Recommend booking in advance if going Friday or Saturday night.

This is definitely a family favorite place to eat given the quality of the food, taste, and service. The menu is so rich and enticing that they now have a tablet to feature and order all their specialties , ranging from sizzling black pepper prime ribs to so much more from Jiang Nan cuisine. Even their West Lake minced meat soup was cooked to perfection in terms of taste and texture. I worked my way up with some pan fried pork buns with just as much soup inside as their pork soup dumplings, but with different sauces to complement their flavors. I also fell in love with their braised pork belly given how tender the meat was to complement the fat with a soothing gravy to eat every bite of rice in your bowl. If you're a vegetarian, even their lotus with snow peas and wood ear mushrooms taste so refreshing with a natural crunch without the need to fry the nutrients away. You may want to try their Shanghainese stir fry noodles, which are so moist, yet al dente, and flavorful to enjoy even without meat :) Make reservations especially on weekend evenings because this place is packed to the max with parking across the street in the municipal lot or Tangram mall. Thus, I have no excuse not to come back for more!

Great place! A lot of food options and the food presentation is top notch. Totally recommend it. The ambiance is also very unique and the servers were all very friendly.

The interior is interesting and definitely adds to the character of the restaurant. Servers were nice and mostly speak Mandarin. The food was as good but not amazing. They have some fun displays, like incorporating fire. The fried pumpkin with salted egg yolk was delicious, sweet, and savory. The crab minced tofu didn't have a lot of crab flavor. The house fish stew with the mustard was a bit too sour. People thought the chicken wrapped in leaves was overhyped and smaller, even though the meat was nice and tender.

Cheli - An Authentic Taste of Shanghai in Flushing! Stepping into Cheli feels like being transported straight to Shanghai--the decor is stunning, and the vibe is just right. But the real showstopper? Their flaming Beggar's Chicken--literally set on fire right at our table! With a huge and diverse menu, every dish was a masterpiece, both in presentation and flavor. Everything we tried was absolutely delicious, and we're already planning our next visit! Don't leave without trying the Chinese Brush Pastry--it's as unique as it is tasty! Features: Tofu skin with mixed vegetables Crispy smoke fish. Osmanthus plum juice Song Dynasty Flaming Beggars chicken Black.pepper Beef Ribs Steamed egg and minced crab meat Chinese Brush Patry Jasmine Milk Pudding

Nothing special to be honest, was more Chinese fusion. Kinda disappointed that each dish was not piping hot when served either. The duck was probably my least fave dish even though they have an interesting spin to it where it's fried. The squirrel fish and sizzling beef were prob my fave but lacked warmth. After the meal my belly wasn't warm. Do expect to pay a little more $$$ than other Chinese food spots in flushing. Worth a try if you're looking for a more "upscale" meal.

I tried as well but ended up just putting myself on the waitlist as it got closer to my desired time. It wasn't packed on a Friday at 6:30 so unless it's a large party, you might be ok!

The filling was decent, but the vinegar on the side was too mild. I'm used to a darker, more robust vinegar with XLB, so this didn't quite hit. Braised pork - very tender and flavorful, served with quail eggs. This was one of the stronger dishes. Yangzhou fried rice - not too oily which I liked, but served with only 5 an small shrimps... Sweet & sour shredded potato (cold dish) - slightly spicy, I really enjoyed this one. It was part of a promo where you can get it for $1 when you spend $30 on entrees, so definitely worth adding. Overall, I enjoyed the meal. Not everything stood out, but it's solid enough that I'd recommend it, and I'd come back to try more of the menu.

However, recently it's been hit or miss. Today was both - the garlic pork belly cold dish was super tasty! The garlic chili oil was spicy, sweet and fragrant. The pork bun ( I have eaten at almost every establishment that serves pork buns in flushing) was disgusting. The pork was almost grey and the it smelled like it was a day away from spoiling. It's really hard to justify a bad experience like this when there are literal hundreds of flushing vendors that serve the exact same cuisine with better quality control. Catch me a Zie Wei Xiao Chi next time I'm in the mood for a pork bun.

If you order above a certain amount (I think $30), you can get a free order of the soup dumplings 鮮肉小籠包 (or get free validated parking?). They are really delicious and definitely one of the highlights of this restaurant! They are just practically overflowing with so much soup, with really thin skins and such fragrant, juicy pork fillings. Some other must-tries: - Chilli oil wontons 紅油抄手 were fantastic. Portion size was a little larger than I expected, and the chilli oil smelled so good! - Scallion pancake with beef 蔥油餅夾牛肉 is one of my favourites. The wrapper was very crispy and the beef was tender and very savoury. The balance of the slightly-sharp scallion flavour was perfect. - Fried chinese chives box 韭菜盒子, another classic. Lovely crispy outside layer with a delicious fresh chives/noodles/etc. filling. - Soymilks - I've had both the hot and cold sweet soymilks, and they are both delicious. You can't go wrong here. The location is a bit hidden (in the back of a small mall), which I suspect is why it's not busier. I've never had to wait, even during weekend lunch hours. Service is always very efficient and to-the-point, which I appreciate.
