We took our car for state inspection to this location of Chelsie's, to our surprise the individual by the name of Bryan at the counter told us there were a few people a head of us when there was only one lady waiting for her car to be inspected, he seemed like he could not handle the traffic ln the store, after making us wait for 45 minutes he came up with bogus reason saying in our insurance card the vin number 8 looks like B and accused us for not having an insurance for the right car, you could see hate in his tone, I will not recommend Chelsie's for any type of Automotive service, he kept complaining that he does not make any money from state inspection to another person behind the glass. Chelsie's advertises that they "fix everything," so I asked if they could rotate my tires, as well repair my brakes as needed, which they did. All costs were confirmed ahead of the repairs. I had to get a last minute inspection and oil change. Brian took me in right away on no notice and pretty close to closing. I was pleasantly surprised! My car had been sprayed on the tail lights to make them look black. Although you can see the light perfectly, this was making it to where I would not pass inspection. I was bummed because I only have a couple days to renew my registration (my own fault for procrastinating.) i told them it was no problem and I'll happily wait for the oil change. A few minutes later, Brian came in and told me he was taking extra time to scrub off the paint! This is not an easy job nor is it in his job description to do so. I was beyond surprised to see he was going above and beyond to help me out. I was in and out faster than he had quoted even with the tail lights being scrubbed. The price couldn't be beat either. For a small family owned business, I wasn't expecting too much. But I won't be going anywhere else from now on for my car needs! I went to them for a second opinion on my car because I was being fed a real whopper by a local dealership who were trying to gouge me to the tune of tens of thousands of dollars. I was at the point of tapping my retirement funds to pay off a car loan because the dealer tried to convince me the car was nothing but salvage. These folks got back to me within a couple of hours and let me know right away the fix was simple and would cost me only a few hundred bucks. In fact, the problem was due to something the dealership had done incorrectly and my car was still in good shape overall once they addressed the problem the dealership created. I only went here because I had a coupon. When I went to pay and use my coupon, I was given this large lecture about not using the coupon and saving it for later. Clearly toxic masculinity. I did not need any other services, so obviously didn't need to use the coupon. I asked my husband to take it in with my receipt and talk to them about it. Don't go here whatever you do. I've been a customer for over 10 years and always trusted them and thought they did good work. I was wrong. I had a check engine light and I used my own OBD to see what was going on. It seemed like a pretty minor repair after doing all my research. I drop the car with Chelsie's and they call me back with an astronomical estimate. Normally to save time I would just let them do the work. This time I decided to make a few calls and immediately found a highly rated shop at 1/3 the price of Chelsie's. I went to get my car and I talked with the owner Chelsie about it. I explained that I had been a loyal customer. He did not care. I explained the cost difference and that it was disappointing to have to take my car somewhere else. He did not care. He charged me a ridiculous diagnostic fee that was as much as the repair. His diagnosis was the same as mine that I did for free! I told him that was going to be big mistake if he charged me for it and it is. Make sure you do not go to this shop. This guy is a clown. When did good customers start not mattering? Not sure how much these shysters stole from me over the years but it's significant. I hope I just saved you some time and money. read more

Brian (the janky , angry son) said it'll be $90 , ok cool , He calls back a hour later and up charges $165 (on top of the $90 ) to finish the job bc it's been taking them "hours". I guess I had no choice if I wanted my car up n ready. Go to pick up the car the brakes are still failing and I have 2 new dents on my passenger side door. Told Brian the dents are new and he preceded to scream about how much he doesn't want us to come back. When I pulled off from their shop the car started getting stuck in limp mode and not revving over 2rpm. (Yes They gave it back stuck in limp mode). Was going to get the police involved but decided ima let God do. I suggest trying out a different shop if you're on Research , these guys aren't getting business so they will f u over. Heed to these comments bc Brian and his dad (owner) don't care about you. Maybe it could be bc me and my boy were minorities and they believe they could get one over? I recently brought my 2014 Ford Fusion into Chelsie's shop because of problems with my rear brakes. As always I was greeted with a friendly smile by Bryan at the service desk. He took in my vehicle and said he would contact me after a diagnosis was performed. I received a call from Bryan within an hour with a summary of the work that needed to be performed on the brake pads and rotors. Never good news but Bryan quoted me the price for repair and said the job could be finished within a few hours. I dropped by and picked up my car at the time Bryan quoted and drove out the door . My family has used Chelsie's for all of their automotive needs for many many years and for very simple reasons ; They are Courteous and always professional. They do terrific work. They are honest. They stay true to cost quotes and repair times. My family and I will remain loyal customers of Chelsie's for a long time at the present level of service they deliver. read more

I was going through my car repair history and thought that I should warn everyone Not to use Chelsies automotive. I had an experience with them in 2015, yes, I know, ancient history, but I'm still angry about it. Had the blower motor replaced for the A.C. $176, it failed the next day, I went back, and they must have just wacked it on the housing to get it to run, because I had another mechanic replace it and he said that Chelsea used a cheap replacement part. I had oil leaks and they wouldn't address them, they replaced the high side A.C. service port and charged the system, $129.42, that failed also. I'm sorry but everything that they work on will have to be redone. read more

We went to this shop because there was something wrong with the cooling system of our car. At the beginning, They said they need do an inspection to identify the problem which is $49.95. And after that, they said they need to flush the system (around $100)as well as change the thermostat which needs 1 hour ($120). Also, the mechanic told us after this flush we need several more flush every two weeks... Then after all of these, the cooling system was still not fixed. Then they said the problem could be the radiator , water pump or something else. Taking the radiator out to check whether it is blocked will take another 1hour and half which means $150 labor fee. So if we did let them to take the radiator down to check, then we will spend $420 in total before we change the radiator, and still might be not sure what the problem is ! We could not take this anymore and we contacted another mechanic, who identified the problem within 1 hour and did not charge that much of money (btw, he said he would not change us before he identifies the car problem). And the mechanic told us we don't have to spend the money to get a new thermostat for such an old car, just take out the old one should be fine since it is Austin. So it turned out that we spend $270 more than we should to fix our car in Chelsie's Automotive. I can't say they aimed to make extra money from us for sure, but it is clear that either their car repair skills suck or they just want to get more money out of our pocket. read more

This is long overdue (about a week) I needed new headlights and purchased what I thought I needed on eBay. Turns out they were wrong. I called Chelsie's Automotive because I am driving a 2013 vehicle. Brian, who happens to be Chelsie's son, answered my phone call. Had me come in the next day. I've been going to Chelsie's for ~8 years - since back when Chelsie was managing Precision Tune. I always get good, honest, reasonably-priced service from them. Today I had a 60K mile service. I also had what I suspected was a transmission issue. The mechanic, Brian, test-drove my car thoroughly to test out my theories. When he returned he sat down and talked with me for probably 15 minutes. He didn't try to sell me any additional unnecessary services. I appreciate a mechanic who will 1) take the time to talk with me, 2) educate me with respect (single woman w/ little car knowledge but not without intelligence) and 3) giving me sound advice. I have been a client of Chelsie's for years, and I completely trust anything they tell me my car needs. In fact, they will break it down and tell you what is a priority, and what could wait. I am finally writing a review because I thought I was going to have to spend a good amount of cash on a new AC. Chelsea called my warranty to find out if it was covered on my behalf, because the information was in the glove compartment. Who else would do that at the risk of not making any money on your repair? My AC is covered under warranty, so I picked up my car and took it to the dealership. This is exactly why I am a repeat customer at Chelsea's! I found this place a few years back and have been happy with their maintenance on our vehicles. They are upfront, honest. I've dealt with Bryan a lot and Chelsie. They always treat me with respect, are patient when I try to describe the weird things my car is doing (including making the funny noises) and don't mind explaining the details of needed repairs in layman's terms. When I was a newer customer, they also didn't seem irritated or offended when I would step out to check prices (never had a problem with Chelsie's being overpriced) or talk to a relative that knows a lot about cars to double check and make sure it was a needed repair and everything sounded legit. One of our cars is older. It pretty much has a case of car cholera (everything seems to be leaking from everywhere) and Chelsie's is really great at helping me figure out which things I should repair soon verses which things can wait. They never pressure me to do more than what I can afford. Oh ya, so it's not the Taj Mahal in there. Get over it. It's an automotive repair place. What do you expect, silly?! I've never seen it really dirty or gross. Plus, I'd rather pay reasonable prices than have the cost of some killer location with a fancy lobby passed on to the customers. read more

First time at Chelsie's automotive read very good reviews so thought I would stop by to get my inspection done. Quoted me 30 mins before they would start and 30 mins to do the inspection was reasonable so I went for it. Got my vehicle in quicker than expected which was a plus but was told it wouldn't pass because my third brake light was out which was understandable but then they quoted me to fix it $120 to replace the pigtail yo get it running. Decided to get a couple others to look at it turns out it wasn't even the pigtail that was bad it was the led which after it was replaced it worked fine looks like I won't be going back last thing I need is to buy extra parts so Chelsie's could guess their way through diagnosing a bad bulb..... read more

Purchased an Auto care special punch card for 3 free oil changes a while back but when I got here they said they are no longer accepting them. Major bummer since this shop was way out of my way and the only reason why I was getting an oil change was to use up the punch card. Since I did drive all the way here, I decided might as well get the oil change done. Originally I was quoted around $42 which I thought was a little steep. Plus it was going to take about an hour since it was busy. Granted I'm used to going to Lube Pit Stop off South Lamar and its about $35 with a 15-20 min turnaround. Was ready to give this place... hmmm... maybe 3 stars but I got a pleasant surprise. The front desk guy decided to give me a $10 discount since they felt bad I drove all the way out there (I explained my story to him earlier) and weren't accepting the punch card any longer. Being able to empathize with the customer goes a long way in my book so at this point I was thinking 5 stars but then reality set in as I write this and I know that their normal prices still are a bit higher than what I'm used to (at least for an oil change.) Regardless, this is an overall stand up auto shop, that's honest and cares about their customers' needs. I'd consider coming here again but I already have my go-to mechanics that are closer to home base. read more

Being something of a shade tree mechanic, there are just some jobs that I can't handle or just don't want to tackle. This is my go to shop. No muss, no fuss, no hassle or up selling. I dealt with Bryan today. Very helpful, friendly, and fair. I had been told that my alternator was failing. Called a few places. Chelsie's had a good price and the better reviews out of the places I had called. The mechanic found my drive belt and tensioner were failing as well. I opted for the service. Was given a little bit of a discount because they already had access so the labor was only partial charge. Informed me that if in the future they can give a proper diagnosis as the alternator probably wasn't at fault for the symptoms I was getting. Dropped the car off and about 4 hours later everything was good to go. The customer before Bryan helped me was quite rude and upset, this didn't in anyway effect the level of service I got. read more

I called immediately to see if there was anything they would do since it had happened on their watch. Bryan wasn't really trying to lend any help or solution. These guys are honest, and the work they did for me was good. My 1994 Toyota truck wouldn't start (would turn over fine, just not catch). At first they wanted to do a battery and starter check. I told them it was turning over great, to skip that and figure out the ignition problem. Turned out the 220,000 mile old distributor was trashed. They replaced it, and it starts great now. I asked them, while they were there, to check out the spark plug wires and vacuum hoses, as they were pretty old. They forgot to do this. They did issue me the truck with a note: "Rough idle, motor mounts may need replacing" and gave me a quote for that. I ordered a spark plug wire set online ($40 to my front porch) and replaced them myself, including the distributor to coil wire. Truck now idles like glass. So, good, and I was pleased they would even work on my 23 year old truck, but not great. read more

You know how a lot of people refer to their cars as females? Well, I refer to mine as a female for a very specific reason. I'd also like to note that even though my Chrysler, "Leigh I-provoke-ya", is only four-years-old, she has a condition called progeria (look it up). This is a condition that normally only affects humans, but Leigh I-provoke-ya has taken on a human form in her inner machinery. What I'm trying to say is, for three days every 28 days, for the past two months, Leigh I-provoke-ya's check-engine light has come on. In essence, she has started her period. My father advised me last month that if Leigh I-provoke-ya got her period again, I should put her on constant birth control -- no week's worth of placebo pills -- to completely halt her period. For cars, this "birth control" must be done in the form of an "operation", so I took Leigh I-provoke-ya to the capable surgeons at Chelsie's. I already knew the problem was a leak somewhere in the emissions system. How did I know this? Because I'm such a bad-ass grease monkey. No, because Ardie S told me a couple of months ago how to go about getting the diagnostic code myself, which came in very handy. And why did I wait two months to do anything about the problem? Because I've spent the last three months recovering from a $2,000 charge from Lamb's for a bunch of other work Leigh needed. I knew my only issue with this leak (short-term) would be passing inspection, but inspection's coming up soon so I have to get this fixed. So I dropped Leigh off at 8am yesterday morning, and Errol M kept me occupied for the next three hours. More accurately, he kept me at his mercy, especially when he drove me to a certain bank at a certain store. I didn't need to go there, or anything, but we got to talking about John R (since he won ROTD yesterday), and Errol proposed going over there and visiting him. I figured I could get some yarn while I was there. Gotta make a scarf for a friend who's moving to a cold climate soon, so... Anyway, the reason I'm not telling you where John R works is because Errol and I nearly got him in trouble by visiting him. I don't want to set him up for more trouble by telling other Yelpers where he puts his name plate. After a trip to Cupprimo and Big Lots, near Chelsie's, I walked home. Got a call from Chelsie's Mike as soon as I walked in the door. He told me Leigh I-provoke-ya needs a new NVLA canister, and it's a dealer-only part so it'll cost a pretty penny. $489, parts/labor. FUCK! ME! I said okay, and then I called Lamb's to see how much they would charge for the diagnostic and repair. $602. Yeah, I took Leigh to the right place, it sounds like. Oh, but then things went drastically wrong. I got a call at 2:30 that seemed to be telling me Leigh was ready to be picked up, but I got the feeling Mike was leading up to some bad news. Yep, I was right. He said when they tried to start Leigh to move her out of the bay, her battery died. You can imagine my first thought... SHENANIGANS! But then I realized the battery was four-years-old, so it didn't surprise me that Leigh crapped out. It pissed me off, but it didn't surprise me. So I approved the battery replacement and started walking over there. As I neared Chelsie's, I saw Leigh parked in a spot. Good! Then I saw the mechanic get back into Leigh and drive her back into the bay. Bad! I was told that as soon as Leigh was parked, she started shitting power-steering fluid. You can imagine my primary thought... SHENANIGANS! Mike said he knows the timing is suspect, but he swears it's all on the up-and-up. I was suspicious and fuming. The mechanic cleaned Leigh of fluid, replaced the fluid, and watched to see if she experienced more diarrheal voiding of fluid. And I just realized how gross that sounded. I was given a very technical possible reason for what happened that I can't repeat, mainly because I don't remember it, but it made sense to me. Seemed to be a freak occurrence that is not completely unseen in Chryslers. Frankly, I'm convinced that if the mechanic punched holes in Leigh's power-steering reservoir, he wouldn't have bothered taking her out of the bay and parking her, so I'm not really prepared to call shenanigans. They didn't charge me for anything related to power-steering, and they're going to check it again next week for free. Lamb's, I'm so over you. Ardie: Thanks for telling me how to get the diagnostic code. The mechanic was really impressed when I gave it to him. The code, that is. Errol: Thanks for keeping me company.
