My cousin and I ordered a bunch of food for delivery. Tofu, fried rice, chow foon, beef and broccoli, egg drop soup, and egg rolls. We thought everything was delicious. I'm not the biggest egg drop soup fan, but my cousin liked it. I thought it was fine. The fried rice and noodles were great. Beef and broccoli were good and the veggies in the tofu were all tasty. I've been to Chen Chinese Cuisine a few times, and it's definitely a reliable local spot, especially when you're craving something quick and familiar. The egg roll is always my go-to starter and it did not disappoint this time. Crispy on the outside, flavorful on the inside, it's one of those items I'll keep coming back for every time. I decided to switch things up and try the orange chicken, and unfortunately it didn't quite hit for me. The flavor was pretty mild and not as bold or citrusy as I was expecting, and the chicken itself wasn't as crispy as I'd hoped, it leaned a little softer than ideal. Overall, I'll still one of the better Chinese food places around but I guess today was not my day. I've been going here for takeout for years. Yesterday, I called and asked for a small chicken chop suey. They said "only one size now" (large). Well, maybe I don't want a large order. Then I ordered Kung Pau chicken. "Large or small" they ask. Ridiculous!! How come you have a size choice for one thing but not another? Even when I have a family visiting and they want Chinese we also go here and everybody is always so happy we went! We absolutely love their food and have never been disappointed. Either if we're eating in the restaurant or taking it to go, it's always hot fresh and extremely tasty! I really like that their lunch specials were on all week not just weekdays. Went there for the first time for a lunch special. When we walked in, the server was counting tips and didn't acknowledge us so we were about to sit anywhere when she stood up and said - two? The seating was quick but there were only two other booths filled which wasn't a great sign. We ordered wonton soup and it was very average and only two wontons for the price and it wasn't hot. I ordered the sweet and sour chicken and I admit the food was very hot, chicken was very good and it came with a good amount of pineapple. The lunch special doesn't come with soup or an egg roll so those are extra, but it comes with a spring roll. I was not impressed with the spring roll and it wasn't very hot - I should have upgraded to an egg roll to give that a try. The server wasn't rude, just a bit hardened and not as pleasant as we've had before at other places. We left spending $37+ tip for the same thing we could have paid $24+ tip at our typical choice for Chinese lunch and they include an egg roll and soup. We only trued this place since we were in the area. My suggestion - the food was OK so maybe buy their take out, but avoid it for eating in their dining room. read more

My boyfriend picked this place because it was a restaurant he was familiar with. This was my first visit. They were pretty busy for a snowy Saturday night. The ambience was your typical Chinese restaurant. The dining room was booths and tables. We both got cocktails and ordered egg drop soup with our entrées. I thought the soup was good. Didn't take a picture of my entrée, but it was packed with different kinds of protein. My boyfriend got a honey shrimp entrée that he likes. But he thought mine looks so good. When I'm in Crystal Lake this is the place to stop for Great Chinese food. Quality is exceptional and the food is great.

We came here for a weekend dinner, and there was plenty of parking outside and they were moderately busy inside. The staff were friendly and the food came out quickly. We enjoyed all the food we got, good flavor, generous portions and not too salty. If you want the Peking duck we learned you have to call in advance for them to prepare it. We were glad to see the menu has a lot of options so we will likely be back to try more of their food. read more

We tried Chen's for an early dinner today and we were very disappointed. We ordered pot stickers, sesame chicken, fried rice, beef & broccoli, chicken lettuce wraps, and a piece of chocolate cake. None of it tasted fresh nor has any flavor. My daughter has a major sweet tooth especially for chocolate cake and she has two bites. Normally we would try a restaurant twice to give it a fair shot but since every dish we ordered was unenjoyable and was thrown out, we will not be trying Chen's again. read more

Please people, Try Yu's Mandarin in Schaumburg. I feel people have no baseline as to what delicious Chinese food is! It's not chicken bursting in some fake RED Coloring or some mystery meat smothered in gelatinous brown sauce. This was my favorite place for Chinese food; for years we went to their location in Algonquin but that has been closed. This takes more time (about 15 minutes longer of a drive) but the food is good. I don't think the food is great (it used to be). Tonight we got King Rolls (I wouldn't order again), General Tso and Crispy Szechuan Beef. Nothing was bad but nothing was great. Poor tasting food that tasted like it was previously prepared & not freshly made. It had the consistency & appearance of warmed over food from the night before. We ordered take out - Shrimp & Lobster Sauce and Mongolian Beef & they tasted very similar almost like the same sauce base was used for both dishes. The pea pods were limp & soggy & not crisp & the Mongolian Beef had mushy meat & onions & lacked the puffy white noodles & authentic hoisin sauce that were supposed to be part of the dish. The Lobster sauce was tasteless & the dish contained only a few shrimp & mostly sauce. The best part of the food was the white rice & fortune cookies that came with the food. We have been eating Chinese Food from all over the world for over 40 years & this ranked among the worst we have ever eaten. Save your $$$ & go to a different Chinese Restaurant in the area. The fried rice was pretty good. Lots of great vegetables in the garlic chicken! Our other lunch special was white rice, shrimp with lobster sauce and spring roll. Shrimp with lobster sauce was excellent, not traditional it had mushrooms and pea pods which were a very nice addition. Also got an extra order of pork fried rice- it had big chunks of pork.
