Bad crab Rangoon no filling just fried shell
    Amanda G.

The meal was good as for local places this is my go to. We had general's chicken. Egg roll, crab Rangoon, soup. The soup my kid loves. We all had the chicken it was cooked good and no bad pieces that some places have. The Rangoon was bad it had no real filling just a smidge with a lot of the fried shell. Staff is fast and efficient. Definitely worth a try

Tremendous‼ remember to bring cash and tip those hard working chefs they make the best Chinese in a 20 mile radius

Friend out old stringy nuggets of general tso. L21 General Tso's Chicken L21 General Tso's Chicken

Extremely let down. I don't know if it's because it's Sunday night but the general tso's and orange chicken was basically crumbly pieces of cold fried breading with an occasional stringy piece of chicken. With their price it shouldn't be so bad. The broccoli was good . Why they send out food like this I'll never know.

    New China take-out in McHenry
    Eric F.

My gut says to give this place two stars, for a number of reasons. But I just can't, (also for a number of reasons). My friend and I came across this place after she tried to take me to one of her favorite Chinese restaurants in the area, Plum Garden, but it was closed. She knew that I loved Chinese food, and also that I had recently moved from Los Angeles to Crystal Lake, and that I was really missing the authentic and delicious Asian cuisine of my former home. But upon discovering that Plum Garden's doors were locked, we decided to just drive around McHenry and look for another Chinese place, descending into the culinary blue skies of the Midwest's great unknown. So we drove - looking for any place that even hinted at being a good Asian joint. Then, from the blond brick rectangles of an innocuous McHenry Strip mall, the New China restaurants' storefront emerged. Needless to say, when it comes to authentic Chinese restaurants, McHenry is NOT Los Angeles. And that's why I cannot give New China any less stars. Because it is what it is, and it is where it is, and I am sure that the people who work at New China are trying hard to make food that their customers will buy; so who am I to judge. But I was given hope, when I looked at the wall-menu through the front window. New China actually had a few good sounding dishes that suggested there was an actual chef born in China cooking inside. Also, there were some authentic dish names that suggested that New China sometimes served a clientele that was really Chinese. So I was excited, even if I ended up being pretty much 'Dead Wrong'. So here were my problems... First: in truth, this is just a take-out place. Sure there were a couple of small, stained Formica-topped tables pressed against the hallway wall, and yes there were some cheap white plastic lawn-chairs stacked four high by the door. But other than that this place was take-out all the way. And there was absolutely NOTHING Like Table-Service. Food was collected at the counter by the customer after paying, and we got our own cans of drinks from the cooler. No hot tea. No Mai Tai. No Chinese music. And not even a traditional ancestral shrine. Second: There were NO plates for the food. Everything was given to us in Styrofoam to-go containers, even to eat at our table. Likewise, drinks came with a Styrofoam cup if we asked for one. Plastic forks & teaspoons were in a box near the March of Dimes donation plaque. Short wooden chopsticks, plus soy sauce and sweet & sour sauce packets too. I didn't take the mustard packet as it was a greyish-brown. Third: There was no designated chef, just three cook-aunties who worked the woks, the steamers, the kettles, the fryer, the chopping block & cleavers, the brooms & mops, they pulled the vegies from the fridge, the meat & seafood from the freezer, washed the pans and bowls, collected the garbage, took the customers' money, packed the to-go boxes & bags, and pretty much did everything else, including probably cleaning the bathrooms. The overused saying, "a Jack of All Trades and a Master of None" truly applied here. Fourth: We ordered a lot of food, not only to try different dishes in order to know what's good for next time, but also because having a refrigerator full of Chinese leftovers has always seemed like a 'good thing' to me, especially in college. Also, I wanted to try what the people in McHenry believe is "Tasty" Chinese take-out. But I also wanted to try the more authentic seeming dishes that were clearly meant for an all-Chinese clientele to eat - just as a comparison. So we ordered Hot & Sour Soup, Won Ton Soup, Shrimp Egg Rolls, Vegetable Spring Rolls, Steamed Dumplings, Chicken Egg Foo Young with Gravy, Sweet & Sour Shrimp (all breading & old dry shrimp), Mongolian Beef, Fried Rice, General Tso's Chicken, Mapo Tofu, Pork in Garlic Sauce, Beef Chow Fun, Shrimp in Lobster Sauce, and Szechuan Green Beans. It sounds like a gluttonous feast, but New China has a lot of combo-plates, so we really only order two of those and then a couple of extra ala carte mains, a noodle, and a veg. But then the gluttonous feast arrived, and the problem with it was that almost every dish except for the appetizers and the sweet & sour was composed mostly of thin dark brown liquid, and it all had way too many overcooked onions & carrots, and too many undercooked broccoli flowers & green pepper slices. Every dish had an identical texture, and everything tasted the same: a little sweet, a little salty, with no chili-heat, no ginger, no vinegar, and hardly any garlic or scallions. And worst of all, it was mostly mushy. I craved some crunch, and some burny-burny spice. I craved more bright colors, and the satisfying chew of meat & shrimp. But the beef and pork and chicken were all mealy, and all pulp. This was maybe the first time in my life that I actually threw away all my Chinese leftovers that were less than three weeks old. Sorry New China. I really tried so hard to like you.

Chinese is pretty poor in McHenry. It only has a few okay places. New China is one of these. Good place for to go because that's the only choice. The inside looks pretty nasty so you wouldn't even want to dine in. About the best option around here for Chinese. It's by no means authentic, but it will do. This was actually better than expected to be honest. Maybe because we had drank a lot before coming. We shared the Home Style Tofu. It's about $9 for an okay amount. This had a pretty mild taste. It was kind of overcooked. The amount was good for the okay price. Has to be the best place around here for Chinese. It's not at all authentic and is pretty basic, so have the correct expectations and it will seem like it's okay. This is Americanized kind of Asian, but it actually has some flavor and the prices are okay for these.

General Tso's chicken (medium spicy) with rice and an egg roll. Take note of the real hot mustard!!!

Wow! Chinese take away is so hit and miss nowadays, especially so when you travel all the time. I am in the McHenry, IL area for business and decided to take a chance on New China and ordered for delivery. Before getting in to this review, let me say that New China hit one out of the park! The first thing that hit me was the menu. It is extensive and varied, plus the prices are very reasonable. I am a creature of habit and ordered the General Tso's Chicken dinner combo. The description for dinner combo's gave you several choices... pork fried rice or white rice or brown rice, and choice of an egg roll or soda. Ordering was simple and quick and I chose the fried rice and egg roll as my sides to go with my dinner. You also get to choose the heat level for the General Tso's! which is an option I have never seen before, and was pleased that I could choose my heat level. I choose the medium heat level as probably being the best choice. Hint: It was.... When my food arrived, I was surprised by the weight of the bag. It was much heavier than I expected. When I was back in my hotel room, I was surprised even more because New China is very generous with their portion sizes! I do have to say I was a bit concerned because the chicken looked a bit dark, which is usually an indication of over cooking or old fry oil. The fried rice was also very dark, which in my experience has meant a ton of soy sauce was used. The egg roll was a bit on the small size, but at least New China wasn't trying to pass of a spring roll as an egg roll. Drumroll please... New China has real hot mustard! I am so used to getting those little packets of hot mustard that I was genuinely surprised to see a little cup with homemade Chinese hot mustard in it. Any of the fears I had with the dark chicken and rice were unnecessary. This is some of the best Chinese take away I have had in a long, long time. The chicken is cooked perfectly. The batter isn't all soggy and the sauce mildly spicy (just the way I had ordered), and not overly sweet. The fried rice is just as good. Not too salty. It is jam packed with pork and vegetables, and slightly smoky in taste. I think Uncle Roger would say it has Wok Hey. The fried rice is very good. The egg roll was just the right size with the amount of the rest of the food. The hot mustard is amazing! It gives a nice big kick and makes you want to dive in for more. I am throughly impressed with New China. They haven't over priced the food, it is plentiful, and very tasty. If you live in the area, happen to be here for business, or are just passing through, I highly recommend New China

Sesame chicken dinner, orange chicken dinner, and steamed dumplings (yumm)

10/10 recommend! Best Chinese food I've had. We got the sesame chicken, orange chicken, king pao chicken, and general tao's chicken all with pork fried rice. Flavor was incredible and perfectly cooked plus very fairly priced. I also loved the service after ordering online of giving you an ETA, map, contact info, and confirmation of what you ordered. This will be a new family favorite go to.

Heard a lot of good things about this place until I decided to try it out and to my luck I found this in my food. Kitchen looks dirty so does the restaurant and the female workers there are not welcoming at all and have a rude attitude!! 0/10 don't recommend unless you like quick and cheap food.

SUPER DUPER ONION OVERKILL DISH !
    Bobby K.

I normally order their General So and Vegetable Egg Roll which are very good. However, I 'd thought I'd try something different and ordered Mongolian Beef and...... Not bad but 75% of the dish is O N I O N S ! ! ! ! The beef, how little you get is good but other Mongolian Beefs I tried elsewhere included Mushrooms and sauce. I'm not upset but I am disappointed. Don't freak out on the pic I supplied on this dish named Mongolian Beef when it should be appropriately named "Mongolian Onions" ! These are ALL ONIONS PEOPLE !

I have read the negative and positive reviews and the negative ones aren't based on any sort of facts just based on the fact that Perricone's is owned by conservatives and the leftists in our area don't like it. We are many, and the leftists know it. If you have a chance to stop on by this sandwich shop, make sure you also try their soups!!! I forgot to mention those above!!! They are so worth it! My only regret is that I bought a very small serving and didn't have any left for lunch the next day!!! I wish Perricone's would actually claim this business on Yelp so they can see how many people in the area actually applaud them!!!

Not horrible but nothing to write home about. This is a pic of a the largest turkey sandwich they offer; like no meat on there Definitely need to add some more meat or offer an "extra meat" option. The food was tasty on a scale of 4 stars but the high price, lack of meat, and kind of messy built sandwiches bring it down to a 3 star. Try for yourself, I'm happy to support local and pay a bit more but needs to offer more, especially to retain new customers. Also.....when the sandwiches were being made I wasn't asked what condiments I wanted on anything, I think all of the meat used was cheap....it also seemed like an imposition to be a customer ordering food from them, mom and daughter didn't give the most welcoming, friendly or helpful vibe. not much love or appreciation shown for $100+ purchase

It was hard to taste any walnut or cranberry and I kid you not the cranberries were cut to the size of 1/2 a grain of rice and the walnuts were not to be found.
