First time coming and probably the last time. We got the chicken chow mein and the orange chicken. Chicken chow mein is not at all what you would expect and the online menu didn't clarify it was crunchy noodles. Still went into it with high hopes after realizing there are two different ways to prepare chow mein but was still lacking flavor Sister got orange chicken which was extremely soggy and all around gooey and the rice was either old or over cooked - it was quite hard and dried out. Visited today for the first time. I had passed it several times thinking it was pick up only but it actually has a very nice dining room! The egg drop soup was the best I ever had. Really loved it. I had vegetable fried rice which I enjoyed. Friend had kung pau with pork/chicken and shrimp and loved it. Serving size was huge! Take home boxes for both of us! She had the egg rolls and said they were the best she's ever had! It was a birthday celebration and our lively server brought a complimentary molten chocolate cake with ice cream. We recently relocated to the area and I think we found what could be the best secret in Northern Illinois. We went to check out Chop Suey Hut one night for dinner after finding out that they had a Gluten Free selection. What we found is some of, if not the best, Chinese food we've had across America. My lady grew up in the Chinatown district of San Francisco. She worked at one of the restaurants there. After eating at Chop Suey Hut, she really can't say for sure which is better. So far we've tried the Mongolian Beef, Kung Pao Beef, Sesame Chicken, and the Pineapple Gai Pan. Each one was delicious. The meat was tender unlike other places where the meat can be tough and chewy. Not here. The sauces were flavorful, but not over powering, and there was a good ratio of ingredients to give each dish a balanced flavor palette. Each dinner comes with a cup of Egg Drop soup. Which is by far the best Egg Drop soup I've ever had. If there is better, it's not at a restaurant that I've been able to visit. The restaurant itself is small, but based on the tables can handle a couple of groups of 8. However, I'd recommend calling ahead prior to showing up if you do have a group just to make sure they have the seating. They also have a separate take out waiting area for people that are ordering their food to go. If you are Gluten Free, such as my lady, they have a large selection for you. They can and will make various dishes gluten free. The servers have been accommodating each time we've dined answering our questions and making suggestions about the gluten free dishes. read more

This has to be the best Chinese I have had in Mchenry county! The egg rolls are the best I have ever had! There is so much peanut butter in them they are almost creamy! LOVE!! Mongolian beef was not all onions like a lot of places. Next time I will ask to get it a little spicy. But this time I just asked for some chili oil on the side and added the spice myself. This place was recommended to us. Very nice and bright inside. Everything was very clean and service was quick and friendly. We ordered the combination, appetizer plate and fried mushrooms. For the main meal, we ordered the imperial trio from their house specialties part of the menu. All the food was very delicious and hot when it got to the table. Only food comment on the down side, the mushrooms seemed to be more on the bland side. Other than the mushrooms seemed, it was an excellent meal and very large size. So plenty to also take home. It's about the most 3.5 star Chinese place there is, but as that's not an option it's a 3 star here's First the good: 1. It's fun to go and eat inside. Great ambiance, great drink menu (my kids love the specialty drinks) 2. The egg rolls are incredible -- huge and tasty. Really some of the best I've had..they add peanut butter to them and it's unique and makes them special. The less good: It's really the food. We live very close to this restaurant, and as Woodstock has little variety of food choices (basically it's Bar Food, Pizza, Mexican and Diners)...I like having Chop Suey Hut here -- WS needs a good Italian restaurant, and a nice date worthy restaurant or three would be good too. Chop Suey Hit has a nice atmosphere inside, but the food is just average. Of course too many Asian restaurants have terrible food, and Chop Suey Hut has better quality than several...but there's little to right home about.... If you are really craving Chinese or Asian (they have more variety), Chop Suey Hut is fine, but it's not in the upper echelon (Plum Garden is still the best in the area). A solid 3.5 stars but I wish it would have something more uniquely great past the egg rolls. read more

My daughter said her food was COLD and not that good-my order came with no rice and not good like previous orders-I called and was told they would credit me $17-well guess what!!!! Came here for dinner, and the inside has a nice ambience but the dining area is relatively small. It was easy to find free parking in the lot to the right of the restaurant - but it can probably get full on weekends. We enjoyed the appetizers and our meals, had huge portions for our entrees, can probably split an entree between two people and still have leftovers for home. They have a large selection of food to choose from. The staff was friendly and our food came out quickly. The entrees were pretty good, but we didn't all love the food. You can also order alcoholic drinks to go and they are yummy ! They just reopened for dine in and they remodeled the inside! It's a huge improvement. It's clean and service is nice . The menu is quite extensive with a very long list of fun cocktails. When our meals arrived, the plates were HUGE! I feel you get a large amount of food for the price. The appetizer was 9.00 and the meals were 15.75 each. Free refills on soda. Will definitely be back. They beat the other well-known big name in Chinese food in the area, no question about it. The food was excellent! Their crab Rangoon have gotten a lot better. I love their cocktails, especially the wiki waki woo for 2. The reason they are getting four stars is because of the customer service from the staff. I've gone there for takeout and the lady at the front was very rude. When I went there to sit down this past weekend, the waitress barely even said hello and immediately asked for a drink order. She never came back to check on us. She never repeated our order back to us resulting in the wrong food. She also didn't come back to give us our check and walked out so we had to flag down another waitress for her to help us. It's great to see local family owned places doing well The order was ready to pick up in only 30 minutes. I have been to China town many times in my life time. Nothing compares to this place, I give it 10plus food is incredible.

I've been hesitant to write this review for some time because I like supporting local businesses and it's so close to my home. However, the food here was inedible. I love both authentic and Americanized Chinese food. I'm also known for being able to power through a meal even if I don't love it because I spent good money and don't want to be wasteful. I genuinely could not ingest the barbecue pork because I was gagging. My mother equally could not stomach it when I tried to pawn it off on her. It's a pretty basic staple but somehow they really mucked this one up. The rest was just meh. Hopefully this post comes across less critical and more of a nudge that they could be doing better. My go-to dishes are the pork chop suey and the shrimp in lobster sauce. I've lived in Chicago for many years, so finding a restaurant out this way can be a bit of a challenge. Chop Suey Hut serves up some delicious food, but some dishes are slightly different from what I am used to. As I said, the pork chop suey and the shrimp in lobster sauce are perfect. Well, they are made the way that I grew up eating at Chinese restaurants in Libertyville and Waukegan. You get more than enough rice with everything. The egg rolls are also delicious along with the sweet and sour dipping sauce it comes with. Most Chinese restaurants disappoint me when it comes to how they serve their chicken dishes-- most are similar, but I am going to talk about the sesame chicken. The breaded chicken is soggy. I was able to salvage the dish the next day by picking out the pieces of chicken and putting them on a grate that sits on a flat metal pan. I threw it in the toaster oven pre-heated to 400°. I left it for maybe 10 minutes before flipping each piece, baking for another 10 minutes in order to make it all crispy. I took the rest of the to-go dish full of the broccoli and sauce and microwaved it once my chicken was ready. Once warmed, I put the crispy chicken back into the to-go container with the veggies and it was delicious! Again, this is just how I imagine any dish with breaded chicken inside my head. I don't know, perhaps the chicken is supposed to be soggy. Last I will pass comment on the emperor's choice tofu and pork. Again, in Chicago, this is a very different dish. Chop Suey Hut fries the tofu, and puts it into a lighter (in color) sauce. They also offer big generous pieces of pork. I really liked this dish, but it was much different from my old place near Mayfair neighborhood, on Lawrence. I like the way Chop Suey Hut prepares my tofu like the way I like my sesame chicken. Crispy! I just wish the sauce was closer in flavor to what I am used to. Last, the crab rangoon is also much different than-- I am going to say all Chinese restaurants. They are good, but I am not a fan of the breading. The cream cheese totally carries this appetizer. Cream cheese makes everything taste better! All in all, I love to eat here. I have been a customer for years. Going forward, I will stick to the dishes I like. If you are reading this and share my opinion, then let this be an informative review for you to go by.
