We order from here all the time, but this last order was awful. We have found the food to be inconsistent, almost like you either get lucky with the good cook or not. I had ordered with Uber Eats who did nothing to help with the order. The lo mein was made with angel hair pasta, not the usual fettuccine type noodles, and the chicken was dry. Oh, no! First of all, I ordered for delivery but two hours later due to restaurant not preparing food yet---no food. Went to pick food up! Horrible! Seafood delight--scallops were disgusting. Shrimp--some under cooked. The Four Happiness --bland. Egg rolls, shrimp and crab Rangoon had a terrible flavor from outside coating--fryer oil bad??? Wonton soup--no flavor. Crab Rangoon would have been good if the outside coating didn't absorb the smell and flavor of the fryer oil. Fried rice --blah. This place has very large portions! Great for parties or large gatherings. Fried rice was a 3 it didn't have much of any flavor , sweet and sour chicken sauce was good but the actual chicken had a slight flavor to it I can't really explain it. Egg roll filling was good but slightly undercooked 3 , lo mein was a 10 it was very tasty and filling would definitely recommend and buy again. Sour chicken 3 crab ragoon 5 . Found another goodn'! Yin & Yang's is a fast, tasty carryout place, right on Route 31! Not much to say about the interior as its obviously pick up only. What I love about Yin & Yangs is thet they will fine tune your order based on your special request. Don't ask me why but we like to order our fried rice dark (extra soy), with garlic, and spicy. You can also request very spicy..they will listen. The prices are not bad, the food is prepared lightening fast, and the portions are generous. Not sure why there are so many reviews stating that they're getting sick. Yin & Yang's has been my go-to Chinese takeout place ever since I discovered it and I've never gotten sick. Do they look like the cleanest restaurant? No. But I assure you that a good number of the restaurants you eat out at aren't either. As for the food quality, take it from a Chinese person that most of the food is pretty close to being authentic in terms of Americanized Chinese food. You just need to know what to order and what to stay away from. This applies to ALL Chinese takeouts. Don't order things like Crab Rangoon or General Tso's Chicken. I will say they are a little heavy handed with the MSG though. Their generous portions and low prices can't be beat. One of the best hole-in-the-wall spots for Chinese takeout. read more

This is one of the oldest Chinese restaurants in the area! With that kind of history, they've had good days and bad. On a good day, you'll love the price to portion ratio. Specifically the lunch specials are truly a huge bang for your buck. We have eaten a ton of dishes here, but we go back the the classics of Shrimp Kow, Egg Foo Young, and any of the Lo Mein or Fried Rice options. On a bad day, the chicken can be dry or there's way too much sauce, but for me, over the years, those issues have maybe happened one out of fifty times. We are loyal here and will continue to come back because the food is good, fast, and cheap. If you want to give them a shot, start with a lunch or dinner special and get a sample dish, fried rice and an egg roll! Then you'll see why this is a local staple. read more

My family has been going here for years since I grew up in Algonquin, just realized I've never left a review. Whenever I swing through town I always pick up an order of beef fried rice and egg rolls, and the food all tastes as good as it ever did - they continue to serve very good portions, and they do not limit the amount of sauce packets you can take for your order. It's hard to find a place that does not compromise on these factors without a hefty price increase these days. I'm glad to see they are still alive and kicking after all these years! read more

This place used to be good, years ago. BUT definitely NOT anymore!!!!! Chicken was SO dry, I could not chew it. It was like leather!! I ordered General Tsos chicken with Fried Rice . The chicken in the fried rice was even dry! Very dirty and disgustingly hot inside. They HAVE to be sweating in the food! Leaving food out in that heat? I asked the guy who was at the register "AC not working?" He said no, the owner wont buy one. So gross in there! My huge portion of dried out food went in the garbage. About the only Chinese I like. I order the Mongolian beef and it's delicious and tender. I love that they offer lunch/dinner specials which come with chicken fried rice, an egg roll, and a can of soda. Portion sizes are huge and their egg rolls are amazing- the best I've ever had (the have shrimp and pork in them). The staff is super friendly and accommodating- I only like the snap peas in my Mongolian beef and they are able to easily accommodate my requests with no trouble. This is the last place I've tried in the area looking for some Chinese that isn't terrible and honestly this was the worst of the bunch. Lot of food but not a lot of taste or quality. Lot of chewiness and just...staleness taste coming from the chicken. The lo mein is made true to form but just didn't really taste great. I'm not normally one to post negative reviews but it's infuriating how many poor quality Chinese places are rated 4 stars and you see things like "best in the area" in the reviews. Makes no sense. Chen in LITH is somehow rated a full star lower than this but is way better quality and taste wise. Only place I really ever crave is China House in Cary. Hong express in Algonquin was pretty decent but shut down for some reason. Ugh. Thank God for places like Peri Peri and Karachi Kabobs because Chinese is definitely not this areas strong suit. read more

I don't know how it is possible this lunch portion meal is just over $7 but weighs over 3 1/2 pounds with egg roll, fork, sauces and drink? First thing, thoroughly clean your restaurant and equipment please and change your cooking oil! You can smell the old oil as soon as you walk in and see dirt everywhere. Have some pride in your business. Ordered a small shrimp egg foo young, small beef fried rice, egg rolls, small General Tso chicken and received the Crab Rangoon for the order total. Everything tasted of stale, dirty oil. There was no spice or sauce to the General Tso chicken, pieces were rubbery. The only thing that was marginally alright was the beef fried rice. The meal upset everyone's stomach and no one finished. It all went in the garbage and was a waste of money. Would not ever recommend this poor excuse of Chinese food to anyone. read more

Closed until 4/1 due to COVID is on their door obviously it's 4/19 and they are still closed. It's a take out restaurant. Here is the crazy thing?!?!? This place has no eating area and depends solely on takeout/delivery business. So, why don't they have website to promote their menu? Well, good thing that didn't deter us from trying this place out. They honestly have the best Egg Rolls, Crab Rangoon and Pot Stickers around. The kids devoured the Broccoli and Beef and the Sweet and Sour Chicken. The Wonton Soup was bland and needed seasoning. The two best dishes so far have been the Shrimp Lobster Sauce and the Singapore Noodle. The monster size of the portions, the exquisite taste and value will keep us coming back time and time again. As with any Chinese place, if you are sensitive to MSG, let them know.. This is definitely a local gem and if you are lucky enough to be close.... this is worth a try. read more

This is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants of all time. Prices on the lunch special are quite nice considering the 2 and half pounds of food you get. I could go down the menu and tell you whats great about each dish, but I think you should just experience it. You wont find better chinese food for these prices. I have a very hard time finding chinese food i actually like. As my friends tell me im a food snob and i dont see a thing wrong with that. Growing up in the city with so many options of deliciousness then moving to the burbs to basically garbage food. This place tho is something special. Exactly what is expected of delicious chinese food. I got sesame chicken and a lrg shrimp fried rice. The rice was gone in about ten min and i forgot about the chicken. So last night watching a game and wanted to grab something quick and gave them a chance. Dear Lord...... egg rolls tasted like freezer burn. I have been going here for years and it never fails! The food is amazing and has that home comfort quality. I've read other yelp reviews about how the atmosphere is not great, but this place is just to go! I agree they could fix it up a bit, but the longest you're going to be in there is 5 minutes. Excellent Chinese food!! I've lived in Crystal Lake for 5 years, and spent the first four of those eating garbage "Chinese" food. We thought we tried everywhere, so after figuring it was impossible to score good Chinese around us (because everyone's recommendations turned out to be horse sh;t), we settled on a sub par place that shall remain nameless for our Chinese cravings. Side note: We used to live in Palatine, so we were used to two of the best Chinese food places out there. I digress. I don't even recall what triggered our first meal at Yin Yang, but whatever ever it was led to the discovery of the ONLY Chinese food place worth hitting in a 20 mile radius of crystal lake. "You rike de sauce?" Cockily stated and thinly veiled as a question as if from an Asian knock off of the SNL sketch. Somehow balancing out the pride of a mating peacock on a cocktail of Viagra & Ecstasy and the quiet self assured presence of a Zen Master contemplating of his rock garden he continues . . . "We make special ourselves here too ." The above is a recounting of one of my return visits to Yin & Yangs. And let em tell you - no I do not 'rike' the sauce, I 'rove' the sauce (the dipping sauce for their pot stickers). Let's step back for a second though and review some facts: There are more 'Chinese' restaurants in the U.S. than any other cuisine by a ridiculously large margin. The far majority of these places are about as Chinese as Charlie Chan. The reason that so many of these places have the same pictures on eerily familiar menus is because most of the products they serve are shipped in from the same group of distributors creating what I call the 'McDonaldization Effect'. Yin & Yangs is a rare exception to this terrible tradition (once you get past the physical menu itself). I had the fortune of stumbling on this place (and that's a trick in itself since it is in a strip mall so small I have never noticed it driving by at least once a week for the last 6 years) because a guest wanted to order some Chinese food and I have yet to find a place in the area that can offer anything 1/2 way decent. Blindly, I ordered the pot stickers, crab rangoons, and a few different dinner items (fried rice varieties, a chicken dish, a meat dish, etc.) Now I am not going to go into a review of each of the menu items I have tried but I will highlight the joy of their pot stickers . . . quickly moving to becoming the menu item that is the is the bonus lightning round for Chinese restaurants - don't worry egg roll you will still always be the official litmus test. (See my other reviews of Asian restaurants on this issue). The Pot Stickers - I am talking about racquetball sized hunks of savory juicy pork, green onions, and a deliciously seasoned with the 'soup' waiting inside (if you don't know what the soup is don't ask, if you know what the soup is you will be very impressed). The dough surrounding these nuggets are thick and tender. Strong enough to hold together these monsters but not overly doughy in flavor or texture. Their home made dipping sauce is the catalyst that brings it all together though - a vinegar based concoction that makes my mouth water just thinking about it . . . Alright this review is getting to be longer that the Great Wall so let em just hit you with few need to know bullet points . . . Don't expect to eat in - there is literally 0 tables to eat at. The place is family owned and run for the last 5 years - the family drives out to Algonquin everyday from Chinatown and is staffed by the kids, father, and other family members. The egg rolls - they are the best in the area. Home made average to large in circumfeence with a nice crispiness and a delicious filling. The portions are massive but go ahead and order a 2nd or 3rd entree - you'll love it and in my experience I have found theirs meats to be of the highest quality I have ever tasted in an Asian restaurant (not just covered over left over parts camouflaged with a lot of sauce). Why not 5 stars? I need a bit more originality on their menu - I get it . . . they are located in an area that is whiter than Alps in winter hosting a clan meeting but I would LOVE to try some more authentic menu items from them read more
