This is the second review I've done for this place. I should have known that there was something wrong with my order.... I ordered vegetable lo mein and shrimp lo mein and I got chow mein for both! I ordered online and when I arrived at the restaurant, the lady behind the counter tried to verify my order but I did not understand her. When I got home is when I realized what happened. I checked my order via email and it was weird looking; I think there was a glitch and the restaurant couldn't determine lo mein from chow mein.... I got screwed... I'm upset because my baby sitter left and I cannot go back and complain. read more

I ordered delivery and provided my card details for payment over the phone. Not only is delivery paid, the courier began demanding tips at the door, when I refused him, he told me not to order delivery anymore and to go pick it up myself. Teach your couriers to communicate with customers and not beg, they are the face of your restaurant. And if they express the position of your management, then increase the cost of delivery and pay them enough, tips are always at the discretion of the buyer. read more

Absolutely the most disgusting meal I've ever ordered. Even the fortune cookie was stale I ordered a simple lo mein with pork. The little bit of pork I found was black and I wouldn't touch It. The noodles were dry and crusty. Must have been laying around for a long time and reheated. Definitely not fresh. I was stupid enough to task it and then threw it away. It was too salty even if it was fresh. I mean really salty. I offered it to my wife but she wouldn't even venture to taste it based only on its appearance stay away. This is our go to local place for Chinese. We really love the food here. We have had beef and broccoli, General Tso's, Sweet and Sour Chicken, Pan Fried Dumplings, Boneless Spare Ribs, Egg Rolls, House Fried Rice. All very good and our family enjoyed. Usually don't vary from some combination of these dishes too much, but all these are solid and we would recommend. read more

This place sucks. Seems like every time I call the person answering the phone doesn't understand English very well. I might order food from them every other month. The Food is ok. It used to be better. Then again so was the pizzeria years ago. They make so much money in the location they're in why can't they invest in someone who understands the English language? I was never a fan of American Chinese restaurants/take-outs because I'm Chinese, and I rather eat at my house. Ever since I started going to college, I always ordered Chinese food in my college town because I'm either too lazy or too busy to cook, but I want Chinese food! When I came back to my home town, I was curious and tried several Chinese restaurants in the area. Cheng Chen is one of them, and it is more on the less than average side. I had the egg drop soup, and the yellow color was very artificially colored. I had fried rice and general tso's chicken, and they were okay. Nothing amazing. The chicken were kind of fat, and the sauce was not very well blended. I prefer Hunan House, which is also located in East Windsor. One thing is good is that the delivery rate is fairly quick in compared to other places. I usually get my order in less than 40 min. read more

Was in E. Windsor for two nights....ate at No. 1 the first night then Cheng Chen the 2nd. No. 1 was ok....not great.....but OK. Cheng Chen was very solid take-out. I just had a dinner special of Kung Pao beef with vegetables, rice & egg roll. All were better than No. 1. If you're traveling & staying overnight this place is a sure bet. read more

If I could give this place no stars I would probably the worst food I've ever had not to mention the staff is not very friendly. The fried rice was extremely dry and flavorless hardly any meat added, spring rolls were over cooked and hard. Yesterday I ordered two combos, Roast Pork and Broccoli and Sesame Chicken. The pork fried rice is just steamed yellow rice with barely any pork or onions! There was barely any sauce on my pork and broccoli, and the sesame chicken was mostly breading! The egg rolls are also gross. For almost $10 a combo I expected more. Never again! read more

Their foods were great, BUT.... until recently, the food changed and it gotten a while lot smaller portion for a small fried rice. They actually charges $3 on delivery when they used to charge only $1.50!!!! What's up with that!!!!! I will never again orders from here again!!!! read more

Best chinese takeout in the area. Am a special fan of the beef with brocholi and shrimp with lobster sauce combos, everything perfectly cooked using fresh high quality ingredients. So good that I always eat their food too fast and have to scrape out and savor that last grain of rice. read more

We live in East Windsor and have eaten there for years. Recently, when ordering pork fried rice, there is lots of rice and a few bits of pork. When inquiring about the lack of swine we are told if you desire "extra pork" you will be charged an additional $1.00. We retort, "We don't want extra pork, but is is logical to assume if one orders pork fried rice, there will be at least some pork" We are assessed an additional $1.00 anyway.Although we enjoy the food, we won't be frequenting their restaurant again. Girl at counter is putting on gloves as I walk up to counter. I order and pay and she handles the money wearing her gloves. She then takes a spray bottle and rag and wipes down tables again wearing her gloves. After that she proceeds to bag up orders. I ordered 4 wings w/ fried rice. I've ordered that item for years in that same manner. When I ordered this time the woman responded, "4 wings?" and I confirmed. When I got there to get it I asked why the price was so high. The woman told me that the extra wing was additional. Apparently, the wings and fried rice was changed from 4 pieces of wings to 3 pieces some time ago. Instead of informing the customers of the change, they just charge you the extra money. That's not good customer service. The crazy thing....the food is not great and I've had to walk out once due to someone sneezing and cooking. Yuk! After several orders that disappointed us, we're officially done with Cheng Chen. Lemon chicken was perhaps the worst takeout meal that I have ever encountered. There was no redeeming quality about my meal. Horrible fried breading coating an extremely fatty cut of chicken, served on a cold strip of lettuce with a slice lemon on top? Seriously??? Even the rice was cold. Fryer desperately requires cleaning, as the oils always smell rancid. Location is run-down, as is the building and interior. Recommend avoiding. Have been going here for the past 2.5 years. The food is good and prices are reasonable. The lunch specials are a pretty good deal as well. The menu choices tailored for American tastes are typical and nothing extraordinary, but the ones that are more traditional Chinese are pretty good. read more
