Picked up take-out from Cheng's Garden on a Wednesday afternoon. Ordered the General Tso's Chicken Lunch Special, the Sweet & Sour Chicken Lunch Special, and an order of Crab Rangoon. Quality Cheng's Garden was the Chinese take-out that I grew up on as a child, but a recent visit reminded me of why I always enjoyed it so much. Splitting with family, we ordered two lunch specials and a side of Crab Rangoon. The General Tso's Chicken Lunch Special was fantastic. Large chunks of moist chicken soaked in a flavorful sauce. A little bit of heat provided by the included red chilis, but balanced well with the sweeter flavors. The lunch special also comes with pork fried rice and an egg roll. For the pork fried rice they used a yellow rice, which was soft and full of onions and chunks of pork. The egg roll had a nice crispiness, but was light on filling. The Sweet & Sour Chicken was not quite as good, but still a solid dish. The chicken was a bit more watery, but the sauce helped make up for the texture. The Crab Rangoon was a mixed bag, as the filling is among the best I have ever had. However, the wonton was too soggy, if it was a little more crispy it would have been perfection. Quantity The lunch special is a massive dish and easily enough food for two meals. The Crab Rangoon comes with eight large pieces. It is solid food and it is a large amount. Value The lunch specials are a fantastic value at under $6. Considering the quality and quantity, the deal cannot be beat. Even for Chinese take-out it is cheap. Ambiance Cheng's Garden is located in a strip mall in the town of Dayton in central New Jersey. The shop is extremely simple and set up only for take-out. When you walk in they actually have a pretty large waiting area, but it is just open space. A few chairs are lined up along the wall, in case you need to wait a few minutes for the food to be ready. They have no tables, so don't expect to enjoy your food on site. The rest of the space is the open kitchen, with a wall separating the space. No televisions are set up and a radio station plays in the background. Crowd There were no other patrons in the store, but they had four or five other orders sitting on the counter waiting for customers to pick them up. This place has been in business a long time and they definitely have a good amount of regulars. Service On the phone they told me ten minutes and when I arrived they had just finished putting the food in the containers. Fast and friendly is all you can ask for, and they provide. Parking Located in a medium sized strip mall, plenty of parking is available for customers. Extra Cheng's Garden is a solid Chinese take-out joint with hard to beat prices. While not perfect, they are about as good as you get when it comes to styrofoam packaged meals. I do think they could use one or two tables inside for people looking to enjoy food on site. It is a place I will continue to frequent when visiting my hometown. read more

Had the best chinese takeout meal here that I've had in a long while. I got the shrimp egg foo young lunch special. It came with pork fried rice and wonton soup. I had lunch for 2 days. It was so much food. The egg foo young was fried to perfection, and I love eggs so I could eat them all day every day. The shrimp complimented the eggs well. There were chinese veggies mixed into the egg batter. It was a greasy deep fried egg heaven. Will definitely get it again. read more

I haven't had a chance to try out a lot of their items but's the closest take-out place near me. since i'm vegetarian, i can't comment on the meat items. my parents weren't impressed with the chicken corn soup, but my dad was all about the chicken wings. they were out of the chow fun noodles, so i went with the mei fun noodles. lots of noodles, felt jipped out of vegetables. not sure if it would've been different with meat. they do delivery $15 min but i ordered there and waited, and it was about 10-15 minutes. prices are average. read more

The other evening we ordered their number 61 which is hot & spicy beef. This had been a treat to look forward to the past few times. This time? What a disappointment! There was almost no beef in this at all. I actually spent more time hunting for the beef through all of the Julienne vegetables then I did eating any beef. Thanks to the Julienne style vegetables, the flavor of everything from the onions, to the celery, to what appeared to be peas in a pod and carrots, was completely lost. The pork fried rice was nothing more than white rice dragged through oil and thrown onto a burner. The three or four pieces of pork tossed in were hard, dry and flavorless. Prior to this we have ordered the Hunan Duck. The last time the duck was hard and tasteless. The time before, it was like rubber chicken and, again, flavorless. Since the later of 2015, there has been no flavor in anything here. What used to be a great place is slowly going downhill and is beginning to pick up steam. The only issue we've had is that delivery can take quite a while, but it really is worth the wait. This is the best takeout Chinese food in this area. Good food and good prices . Our favorite: Chow fun, mei fun, pan fried dumplings. My only complain: once awhile the lo mein noodle is too salty for me and I'd drain all the soy sauce out before eating it. read more

As far as Chinese goes in America, Chang's is a great little place. They have a great General Tso chicken if you like that. Ordered delivery last night due to the huge snowstorm. I ordered a small shrimp and broccoli. It was delicious! Plenty of shrimp and broccoli and loved the brown sauce. My son loves their chicken nuggets. (Yes, chicken nuggets!) My daughter loves their pork dumplings whether steamed or fried. Their white rice is moist, not dry. There portions are generous and the prices are good! We eat dinner and lunch the next day. Oh, yeah and they have awesome triangular shaped crab rangoons. Delicious!!!! I have been a customer of Cheng's Garden since 2011. It's the Best Chinese take out in the area. Loved the egg foo young, General's Tso's , beef loin main and he eggplant in garlic sauce. However, I stopped ordering from them becasue of a very rude delivery driver. The driver yelled at me about a tip, if he had waited 2 seconds he would have gotten it. He then took a coupon that I handed to him and threw it at me. I immediately called and talked to a male employee. He explained to me that " I had to understand that the guy was mad becasue he never gets any tips". I asked for the female owner and he said she wasn't there. That is the only reason why I stopped ordering from them. I would suggest that your delivery guy( middle age Asian male) get anger management counseling,if he's still there. This happened several months ago. I decided to post now because a co-worker mentioned a similar incident that happened to him during the same time period. I would give them a 10 for their food and a BIG ZERO for that delivery guy. read more
