This Chen's is hands down our favorite Chinese restaurant! We make a point to stop here every time we're heading home from the lake, and it's become one of our favorite traditions. We've tried other Chen's locations over the years, but nothing compares to the food at this one. The flavors are always amazing, the portions are generous, and everything is consistently fresh and delicious. The customer service is just as outstanding as the food. The staff is always friendly, welcoming, and appreciative of their customers, which keeps us coming back again and again. My only complaint is that this location isn't closer to our home in Gilbert! My friend Christian recommended this place to me, as he lives in Gold Canyon & he & his dad dine at very good places. So, being the Yelper I am, I got curious & craving Chinese food, I placed a takeout order for friends & I. We got Pork Lo Mein, Sweet & Sour Chicken, an extra order of Chicken Fried Rice, & crab rangoons. The service was quick, as everything was ready upon my arrival! The restaurant is very nice, with quiet, inviting ambiance. Very good customer service & friendliness. The food was fresh & so tasty! I see why Christian loves this place! How do I love Chens? Let me count the ways. Chens is a local Gold Canyon restaurant that flies under the radar. Most people in the valley have no idea where Gold Canyon is (far East valley) and certainly don't know the handful of restaurants. Chens is special in my opinion. From the variety to amazing quality and freshness, not to mention the attentive and professional staff - they do everything right. Both my wife and I love it and after 35 years in the phoenix area we consider it a great choice and feel so lucky it's in our neck of the woods. Never, ever, ordering from here again. I placed a takeout order over the phone right before New Year. I asked for two-2 entree plates to go. On the first order I asked for orange chicken, teriyaki, with chow mein noodles. The second order was orange chicken, sesame chicken, with chow mein noodles along with 2 chicken egg rolls and some ragoons. When I arrived there was an order that looked like a catering order. When I asked if that order was mine, she said yes. I told her what I ordered, and she said, for dinner they don't do that. The orders are separate and charged me $96.00 for what should have cost maybe $45.00. The sesame chicken was dry and the ragoons were not fresh. Never again! Terrible customer service! read more

I've only been to 3 Chinese places in the valley and this was the best. The food was delicious.

Not so good, we had hoped to find a little favorite on the road from globe and east valley. Yeah, no. It was busy with customers on a Saturday night about 7 pm. The white rice was dull, way over cooked and Tasted old. S&s chicken, way over breaded and tiny bits, no flavor and couldn't tell chicken from pork by taste, asked the server twice if it was chicken! Comparing to s&s pork, chicken and shrimp the shrimp were visibly different of course but again no flavor, the fried rice was the white rice fried, dull no flavor, I was adding soy sauce just to have flavor. The portions were large, too large, the pieces tiny and we won't be going back, be wary of chens! read more

Stopped here for lunch on the way to visit relatives. Location was fairly easy to find at the back of a shopping center. However, everything here was frantic and rushed. The employees were running around like crazy, shouting instructions at one another and shouting at customers in order to seat us. Meal preparation was extremely fast & food was OK, but they would just come by and put it on your on your table and walk on as if they didn't care who it was just so long as we ate and got out of there . Some of the worst Chinese food I've had. Our appetizer was ok but we ordered three lunch entrees which were basically inedible. They were nice enough to comp my chicken chow mein which I could not eat. It was basically noodles with chewy pieces of chicken. Nothing seemed fresh. The side of fried rice was not authentic...just rice with soy sauce I think...brown in color with nothing else. Orange chicken was soft and soggy with an unusual flavor. The pork fried rice dish appeared to include frozen vegetables not fresh. The folks I dined with did not eat their entrees but were too polite to complain. They boxed it up to go and then later threw it in the trash! I am quite surprised by the decent reviews but maybe it was an off day not sure? Don't think we'll be back. If you like authentic awesome Chinese food I just don't think this is the place to find it. read more

If you don't mind lots of sodium and MSG then it's probably an okay place. We ate there and within 20 minutes I was all congested and headachy from the MSG. The food tasted great but the after affects of too much MSG and sodium aren't worth it for me personally read more
