This place is a hidden gem. Honestly, I'm not sure I've ever had orange chicken this good. I loved the service because they don't hound you 24/7 asking you questions about "how is everything" .. they know their food is good. The dining room is chill. If you're a picky eater don't come here. If you want to be adventurous and try something new and different, and taste delicious food, come here and try it out. I'd recommend the pork dumplings, a small soup, and an entree but get something you've heard of. Had the best food that I have had in years! I was in town for work and found this place. Very clean the staff was personable and attentive. The owner stopped by the table and asked if I was new to the area as he did not recognize me as a regular. If I lived here, this would be my go to place. Chens has become greedy with their pricing and randomly charging different delivery fees depending on who is working the phones. After ordering over 11 years, they show no loyalty and when confronting the lady on phone about charging delivery when, when menu does not state a delivery fee, she canceled my order because I complained. Ordered delivery this evening. The food here is usually good but tonight the food was very bland and very oily. I ordered the lomein and hunan beef. The noodles were overcooked, the hunan beef was very bland and not spicy as it should be. You could see a 1/2 inch of oil sitting on top of the dish and the paper bag it arrive in was drenched in oil. read more

Well, things have changed since my last review, which makes me sad. The customer service has dropped, and the prices have gone up. I now have to pay extra for sauces, which is OK, I guess- but, when they charge $.50 per sauce, and forget to add them to my bag, that's where the problem lies. The sauces used to be free, and if they were forgotten, no biggie. Also, when you call in to order, they're not as friendly as they used to be before the pandemic. Knowing this place was only just mediocre Chinese take-out, we played it safe and ordered Chicken & Broccoli & Chicken with Mixed Vegetables. What could go wrong? Whatever we were served it was not chicken. It tasted more like lightly breaded fat or lightly breaded chicken skin? Not sure, but not chicken. I had 2 meals from this restaurant in the last 3 weeks. The first was takeout sesame chicken that was fried so hard I had trouble eating half of the dish. Tonight I ate in and thought I would order something very simple. I ordered an egg roll and chow main - chicken. The egg roll was fried tough and I can't even come close to describe what was inside the egg roll. Then the chow mein arrived looking very bland and tasted even less. All I could think about as I tried to eat less than 1/4 of the plate was the taste of corn starch. By all means I am not an expert on chinese cooking but given a choice I would select chinese food over most other foods. read more

Pleasantly Vegan Friendly Quiet restaurant with comfortable decor, perfect for quiet meals. Staff friendly and cheerful. Tofu proudly listed as an ingredient in a vegetable dish. I tried the hard to find Ma Po Tofu. It was listed as hot and spicy and I told the server I like things spicy. It was not. It was kind of bland. My friend ordered the vegetable fried rice without egg. Very generous portion for the price and actual vegetables in it, but not a lot of flavor. i stayed in hyatt place which is just a stone's throw from this place. When me and my colleague sat down, we were immediately served with the fried dumpling skins which are a tasty treat to start the day. The first time we went there i ordered a fried rice with shrimp. Fried rice was good and it actually tastes like fried rice, not just rice with soy sauce. I'm from Singapore so i know how fried rice is supposed to taste like. They are also very generous with the number of shrimps in the portion. I also ordered a egg drop soup. Soup was thick and flavourful. My colleague ordered a hot and sour soup which is equally good. however, please take note that the single serving soup is kinda small. The second time we went there we decided to order the house traditional soup, the kung pao chicken and the ma po toufu. The soup has literally more meat and vegetables than the actual soup itself. It has a very rich chicken flavor and really warms me up in this cold weather. The kung pao chicken was not spicy enough, much different than how traditional kung pao chicken would be. The ma po toufu is also not as spicy as it should be. Perhaps the food was modified over the years to suit the tastebuds of the local population. Overall a nice experience. Will recommend to anyone who wants a decent asian meal that actually tastes like asian food in VA. read more

Our experience here was not a good one. We went on a Tuesday night so it wasn't very crowded. Only two other tables occupied at the time. We ordered hot tea. It was a cup of water and a tea bag. They refilled the water but didn't give a new tea bag...sorry but tea bags are one use only in my book. The smell of coffee embedded in the plastic mug over shadowed the taste of the tea. I have ordered from them many many times over the years. Many times for delivery. But today, for some reason, I was informed they won't deliver to me anymore because it's "too far". Chen's serves the best Orange Chicken I have ever had. All other restaurant's serve a mushy over sauced chicken nugget. Not here! The chicken is amazingly covered in a "crunchy" breading with just the right about of Orange sauce. Just AMAZING! I don't feel they should offer delivery if they can't provide the service to back it up. I was told 30-35 minutes for my order I placed at 5:45pm. After several calls and 1 hour and a half later I called and cancelled my order. I had a small child I had to make dinner for as he couldn't wait that late and the rest of my family had to find an alternative option which put us eating way late in the evening. As a business if you are busy on a Friday night I totally understand as businesses can get that way, but either shut down delivery for the night if you can't meet the demand or tell people more realistic timeframes. I like the food but this was unfortunately a bad experience that sticks. read more
