But worth a seoerate order. Service was decent and the ambience is always old country china with music. The wait staff is diversifed with english and spanish speaking. What I have noticed is the spanish/english speaking staff dont engage with minority customers. That needs to be retrained in front house operation. Ive probably eaten here six or seven times. I keep giving it a chance, because my daughter likes it, but it's really no better than anywhere else for Chinese. Today's post has been prompted by an unfortunate incident with takeout last night,, that being a long hair found in my spring roll, which pretty much left the rest of the meal unappetizing and I threw it all away. My favorite Chinese restaurant in the Chester area. We have been frequenting this place for over a decade. I am happy they have reopened for dining-in after being only carry out since the pandemic. Interior has been updated and remodeled. Ambiance is nice, bright and open. Food is always consistently good and tasty. Texture and flavor of the orange chicken is delectable. The Singapore noodles is my favorite dish to order. I loved the rainbow vegetable mix with fish. As with every other restaurant the prices have went up and the portions are smaller than they used to be. I still recommend this restaurant over the fast food Chinese places because the quality is worth it. read more

I used to love this place. Once they opened back up after Covid, the quality isn't the same. Went in and ate and everything was just so-so. A month later did a pick up order and the order was wrong even though he called it back to me. I called back and they gave me an in person credit for what I had paid for but didn't get. We ate inside. Nice, clean, and comfortable. Great server, friendly and attentive. Prices are high and the quality is so-so. Better than a lot of Chinese restaurants in the area, though those are lower priced. We ordered dishes that said they featured "Filet mignon", but we got over-cooked very tough pieces of beef. The flavor was mostly good. This is the only local place I've found that has good rice. My seafood dish had very little seafood, it seemed to be mostly onion, which was insanely disappointing for the price. read more

Waited forever it seems for dining room to reopen after their remodel. Food used to be the best for the area. Maybe they're cutting costs to make up for renovation. Who knows? All I know was service was SLOW, waitress was obviously new. Food was okay, but appetizers were horrible!! For the price of each appetizer for our table, we expected way more and better! They were super small and had NO taste!! Think the renovation went to their heads if they think this is gonna cut it. I can only give three stars at the moment because they were closed for so long we kind of lost touch with this restaurant. Prior to covid, we enjoyed the dine in experience at Peking. The dining room is very nice and the staff was always very friendly. The takeout they offered while the dining room was shut down was lackluster so we were disappointed that they stayed closed to dine in for so long after everyone else reopened . Peking was our family's traditional Christmas Day destination. The food was always wonderful and the atmosphere very festive. I believe the dining room is open again, finally, so we are looking forward to going back to the Peking we always loved! I'll post an update once we visit! read more

The buffet has General Tso s Chicken , Green Pepper Steak , Spicy Cabbage Salad , Sweet and Sour Chicken , Peking Lo Mein , White and Fried Rice just to mention a few items to enjoy. With your buffet you choose the soup of your choice , Hot Tea and ice cream for dessert . All of this for $13.50 . What a deal $$$ Get there early because it's very popular on Sundays . I'm very picky when it comes to Chinese food & this place exceeded my expectations. I have no fear why the rating is low. I ordered the beef & mixed vegetables with white rice. The sauce was savory & didn't taste too heavily of soy sauce like most places. I especially loved their mix of vegetables & the way they cooked them. They served it with bamboo, baby corn, water chestnuts, broccoli, carrots, cabbage, snow peas & cabbage. They were also cooked but still very crispy. This restaurant has always had good food before the pandemic. Since then, we ordered takeout once and ate in not long ago and was a better experience. But, tonight my wife and I dined there and the service was very good. The ratng has to do with not that but more so the value of the food and drink that we received in exchange for our money. We both had the Flower corn soup and Bourbon drinks. The soup had about two kernels of corn maximum. And the Filet Mignon was very tough. Plus, the exhorbodan prices that we were charged for drinks. The Peking signature drink are too sweet for us, so we othered bourbon with Diet Coke and those drinks tasted so good. They were so good that we othered another one. After paying the bill, my wife noticed that we were changed $54 for those four drinks (the Peking's signature drinks are about $18 each). When my wife asked the owner about the bill and he simply said that he made those drinks strong. Afterwords I went to the ABC store, Makers Mark was $35/fifth. This is a painful lessons learned experience. Buyer beware! read more

Wow, that was actually quite nasty! Having been very, very happy dining at Peking in the Richmond-West Broad area (and at the organization's Grove Ave and Shockoe Slip locations when they were around), I figured I would order lunch from its Chester location since I am now working in that area. On the main Peking website, there is mention of the Chester location but there is no link to a menu, as there is for the West Broad location and for the Mechanicsville location; the Midlothian mention does not have a link to a menu, same as with Chester. So, I decided to order off the lunch menu section of the West Broad menu since the Mechanicsville menu does not have a lunch section. Opting for the lunch version of General Tso's Chicken--always a fan favorite--I decided against getting a soup as an accompaniment this time, but instead, go with the spring roll because the lunch comes with "soup or spring roll." Also, I always find solace when a restaurant posts that it adds no MSG, as the West Broad menu does. (We know where this is going, don't we?!) So, I call the Chester location to phone-in my order and explain: lunch version of General Tso's chicken, fried rice (as opposed to white or brown), and....when I get interrupted with "What?" I restate that I would like to place an order to-go, for the lunch version of General Tso's chicken..."What?" So, I start again: I would like to place an order for pick-up. "Ok, what would you like?" Again I say: the lunch version of General Tso's chicken, with fried rice, and a spring roll. That's all. She asks, "You don't want soup?" I answered, "No, I will go with a spring roll." She said "That's a dollar-fifty extra. Lunch comes with soup." I should have taken that as a warning, but I said "Ok, no spring roll, egg drop soup, please. That's all." "Do you want anything else?" "No ma'am, that's all." "Ok, it will be ready in 15-20 minutes." Ten minutes later, I arrive at the restaurant and my order is waiting for me on the back counter. I pay for the meal and drive back to the office. (Those two actions actually were uneventful.) Back at the office, when I opened the bag and pulled out my lunch containers, I found: an egg drop soup, lots of soy sauce packets, two packets of duck sauce, knife/fork/spoon packet, and on the bottom, the container with the General's chicken. But, I noticed huge chunks of bell pepper and I hate(!) bell peppers. There also was chicken and broccoli (as expected), and also onions. Oh, plus the fried rice. But there were bell peppers! I neglected to mention earlier that I grabbed one of the lunch menus when I picked up my order. So when I noticed the peppers, I naturally checked the menu and found that THIS location's General Tso's chicken contains bell peppers and onions, in addition to chicken and broccoli. What's up with that?! I rechecked the West Broad menu and saw that I was not mistaken regarding my expectations, that there were no bell peppers or onion on that menu. Plus, having eaten at that location countless times, I never received anything other than chicken and broccoli. So, how could I expect the contents of a menu item at another location under the Peking family of restaurants to be prepared any differently? I am sure that the Big Mac at the local McDonalds in Chester is made with two all-beef patties, special sauce, lettuce, cheese, pickles, onion, on a sesame seed bun, just as it is at the McDonalds locations on West Broad. (Note to self: try a Big Mac from a McDonalds in Chester.) So, I set to removing the bell peppers from the container. (By the way, whoever guessed that there were nine chunks of bell pepper, you are correct.) So, I then ate my lunch and found that it was just okay. Definitely not as flavorful as the West Broad location. Or, for that matter, not as flavorful as the similarly named dish from another Chinese food establishment in Chester, located closer to I-295. Within a few minutes after eating, I started feeling MSG-y. Ugh! MSG coma, albeit mild, settled in. I immediately reviewed the entirety of the lunch menu that I picked up as I left the restaurant and found no statement regarding MSG; I mentioned earlier that the West Broad location printed No MSG added on its menu, which means we expect that some MSG is in the foods it uses for its dishes but nothing additional is added. No evidence of a similar claim on the Chester menu. Ugh! So, I continue to live and learn. I learned that a General's command in one area may be comprised of greater diversity in another area. And I live to eat Chinese food at establishments other than the Peking Chester location. read more

Used to come here often and I have to wonder if it's changed hands? It was very lackluster all the way around and the orange chicken wasn't good at all. Hardly any chicken and I really didn't see a single orange peel sliver nor did I taste it. Appetizer tray (Pu Pu Platter) came out with the food with an empty center where the sterno burner is typically. Entrees are served in bowls and were saturated with thin sauce. We ordered the sesame beef special, an extra egg drop soup, and an order of fried dumplings. The sesame beef special came with rice soup and cabbage salad, and a egg roll. So we eat here about twice a year - my dad's birthday, and Father's Day. We'd already been for his birthday so I wasn't surprised when he suggested Peking for Father's Day. Now my Dear Old Dad is immunocompromised so we don't go out much anymore - thank you, Covid, so we decided to order take out. Works just as well as eating in! We ordered Hunan Shrimp, Hunan Chicken, General Tso's Chicken, a large Vegetable Fried rice, Hot & Sour Soup, and Spring Rolls. Peking is one of the higher priced restaurants in the area (the main reason we don't go more than twice a year), so this tab was kinda high (around $70-$80), but we had plenty. Each entrée comes with steamed white rice. We generally take turns, eating a little of each. Everyone agreed everything was delicious. Broccoli was fresh and everything had a good flavor. The Hot & Sour Soup is a little greasy - my biggest complaint. They did prepare the fried rice to order with no onions. All in all, Peking is on the pricey side, but it is worth it for good, fresh, quality Chinese food in Chester. Also, I noticed the dining room is open again and it looks like they've updated the charming décor from 1991! PS Sorry, no pics! We scarfed that food down! read more

Totally a go to for me! My husband and I spend many holidays at Chinese Restaurants and this will be our new spot! The staff is great, speedy and excellent! The food is AMAZING. I usually opt for whatever the special of the day is to keep it interesting. I have never been disappointed. The cabbage salad is one of my favorites in town, pineapple chicken, duck, tofu, they have it all. The dinners come in large portions enough for two easily. I have never been to the Sunday buffet, but plan to go. Price is moderate but definitely worth the money! TOGO is easy and breezy as well, no trouble and ample parking. read more

Peking is a lovely restaurant with two lions sculptures out front. The tables have tablecloths and live anthurium flowers on the tables. The napkins are cloth. Will not return. First the good: Was seated immediately, friendly greeter, friendly waitress, clean table, nice atmosphere. Now the bad: Everything else. We placed our order, asked if the dumplings contained soy. Waitress told us they were made by hand, so they didn't. She came back five minutes later, and said they actually DO have soy. So if you have a soy allergy, order something else. I ordered two spring rolls, and peking NOODLE soup. My sister ordered hunan chicken. She asked for onions to be added to the chicken. Food came out. No noodles in my noodle soup! I mean, it's in the damn name! No onions in my sister's chicken. Chicken was tough. Her fried rice was cold. My soup was hot, once they added the noodles, but pretty flavorless. And get this: the noodles weren't rice noodles or lo mein, but plain old spaghetti noodles from a box! There was shrimp in my soup, and one of them had the tail still on. Everything about the meal was below average except the price. Way too pricey for the portion size and quality of the food. Finally, the only thing Chinese about this place is the name. There ain't a single Chinese person within a mile of that kitchen. I know, because I looked. You need actual Chinese people to cook Chinese food the way it's supposed to be, and Chinese people don't speak Spanish. read more

Quite a gem of a Chinese joint to be found in a strip mall in Chester. Great quality food that doesn't taste like it fell off the back of a Sysco truck. Get the Peking fried rice and ask them to make it spicy. read more
