Tiki-Tiki is more than just a restaurant -- it's a whole vibe, a Richmond institution, and quite honestly, my happy place. From the moment you pull into the lot on Patterson Avenue, there's this wave of nostalgia and warmth that hits you. It's not flashy or modern, and that's exactly the charm. It's got that old-school Chinese-Polynesian aesthetic with the bamboo accents, tiki masks, and dim lighting that makes you feel like you're stepping into a cozy little island tucked away in the heart of RVA. It's not trying to be trendy -- it just is what it is, and that's what makes it legendary. Let's talk about the food -- because Tiki-Tiki does not miss. Ever. The menu is huge and packed with all the classics you could want. The Pu Pu Platter? Straight up the GOAT appetizer. You get a mini fire pit at the table to grill the skewers yourself -- it's fun, it's delicious, and it's the kind of old-school dining experience that just hits different. Their egg rolls are crispy perfection, not soggy or greasy like most places. The Hot & Sour Soup? Bold, spicy, and full of flavor -- I order it even when it's 90 degrees outside. My personal favorite dish has to be the Singapore Rice Noodles. I don't say this lightly, but nobody in Richmond -- maybe even the entire East Coast -- does it better. Perfectly seasoned, packed with curry flavor, loaded with shrimp, pork, and veggies. Every bite is balanced and never oily or bland. I've had it at least 30 times and it's never once let me down. The General Tso's Chicken? Insane. Crispy outside, tender inside, drenched in that tangy-spicy sauce that makes you wanna lick the plate clean. And I haven't even mentioned the drinks -- Tiki-Tiki's house cocktails are iconic. The Tonga Punch will sneak up on you in the best way possible. It's sweet, strong, and served in those signature tiki mugs that make the whole experience feel special. It's the kind of place where even the drinks have personality. The staff? Absolute gems. Super friendly, quick to seat you, and always on top of things. I've had the same server recognize me and remember my usual order, which just shows how much they value their regulars. The service is always consistent -- polite, fast, and never rushed, even when they're slammed on a weekend. It's also the perfect spot for takeout. Their packaging is always neat, portions are generous, and the food stays hot. Whether you're dining in with a group of friends or grabbing a quick dinner to-go, Tiki-Tiki always delivers -- in every sense of the word. In a city that's constantly changing, Tiki-Tiki is a rare gem that has stayed true to itself for decades. It's got history, soul, and heart -- and in a world full of overhyped, overpriced fusion spots trying to be cool on Instagram, Tiki-Tiki just quietly puts out banger after banger. If you've never been, go. If you've been once, go again. And if you're already a regular like me, then you know what's up -- Tiki-Tiki isn't just one of the best restaurants in Richmond... it's a lifestyle.

To me, a great presentation and a beautiful atmosphere are wonderful, but at the end of the day? Nothing can replace pure, authentic flavor. Well, Fat Dragon in Virginia absolutely blew me away. From the second we walked in, the experience was seamless. We had a party of eight with no reservation, and they sat us immediately. The ambiance was great, the portions were incredibly generous, and the staff was friendly, attentive, and completely on top of their game. Drinks arrived fast, and the entire meal flowed beautifully without a single hitch. But let's get to the real highlight of the night: the Tsingtao beer-battered mushrooms. Oh my goodness, they were out of this world! Perfectly fried and crispy on the outside, incredibly juicy on the inside, and dusted with a spicy Sichuan cloud that made them completely irresistible. They were so good that even my father--who isn't a mushroom lover at all--couldn't stop eating them! For my main course, I had the Fei Lone steak, and it was absolutely sublime. Tender, perfectly prepared, and packed with flavor. If you appreciate amazing service, a great vibe, and food that actually delivers on taste, do yourself a favor and check out Fat Dragon. I'll definitely be thinking about those mushrooms for a long time!

The entryway is interesting and provides some shelter from the rain, allowing you to manage your umbrella before entering. We were seated within seconds, and our server, Liza, came by very promptly with some water for our table. I felt slightly anxious at first, being that we were in a cozy two-top amongst the fray, but it subsided quickly because everyone was respectful and reasonably quiet. We ordered the veggie spring rolls to start, and I had the Chinatown Ramen, and my partner had the Chicken Fried Noodles. The appetizer was hot, savory, and spicy with the duck sauce and hot mustard mixture. If you like milder sauce, do not mix it. The entrees came out within five or so minutes of the appetizers, which seemed quick for a busy night. The ramen was spicy, hot, and filling. I was only able to finish about half. We will be enjoying those leftovers tonight. My partner said that her noodles and chicken were well-seasoned and delicious, too. Looking around the restaurant, it is clear that they support the local LGBTQ+ community, and it is even labeled as a Safe Space on the beautifully manicured, makeshift chalkboard/menu/posting board. The clientele and staff alike seemed warm and kind, based solely on limited interactions and observation on my part. If you are looking for a traditional American-Chinese food restaurant (think buffet-style items), this is likely not the place for you. There were no mishaps or snafus with our orders. Liza performed her duties well, and I can surely recommend this restaurant to anyone who doesn't mind a mix of Japanese and Chinese cuisine.

My waitress Kat was very nice and helpful, even patient with me since it was my first time. I started with some chicken gyoza which was really good and the tangy sauce was very flavorful. Not even 3 minutes after receiving it, I got my main entree which was the scallion chicken and fried rice which was absolutely incredible! She added chicken to her ramen, but unfortunately, it seemed either overcooked or processed. However, the staff handled the issue well and removed it from our bill, which we truly appreciated. I got these for the road: Dry-Fried Eggplant Crispy with a touch of savory spice plus cilantro, really good. Grandma Noodles Wavy noodles in a savory brown sauce with dried pepper and cilantro. Spicy but good spicy. Much better than the last time I had them, they hadn't congealed yet. When I mixed everything together it was great. Pork in Spicy Garlic Sauce Oh yeah. Even with just one spice pepper, this rocks. This is what I remember enjoying from years back. Tender shredded pork in a spicy sauce with garlic and multiple kinds of peppers.
