    French toast

Awesome diner. I'm not sure why so many mixed or negative reviews exist for this spot. I got to try their very cherry French toast. It was really, really good. Unlike most other places, they don't skimp on the fruit toppings. Loads of cherries, very sweet (almost excessively so but I still really enjoyed it). And the French toast itself was also really well made. Excellent portion, looked almost like a French toast sandwich. Super great prices for this portion. All in all, I would highly recommend this spot for a tasty and cheap breakfast or brunch in the Pittsburgh area.

Seat yourself place. Restaurant was relatively clean. Waitress came around soon after I was seated and took my drink order. Came back with coffee and water and took my food order. Omelet and pancake came out quickly after. Omelet was more like a ham and cheese scramble which was fine by me. I ordered a pancake on the side, it's almost as big as the plate. Once the food was delivered the waitress stopped by and asked if everything was ok, and that's the last I saw of her. A family came in with a stroller and they made accommodations for the stroller right away. Owner came out as I was finishing and asked if I wanted more coffee. Overall good experience.

My food was really good. It's small on the inside. The food came out pretty quickly. I had no issues at all.

This is a solid diner joint in downtown Pittsburgh, aptly described by others as "no frills." It's basic breakfast and lunch dishes - nothing fancy but food is decent. I ordered the "fluffy waffles" with whipped cream and strawberries. The fruit isn't really fresh so much as it's like the canned / syrupy fruit. But the waffle with the toppings was good, and the lady Lisa was so nice and took good care of me, so not bad service. Would have given it 3.5 stars but will bump up for service and affordability.

My friend and I came to Cherries Diner for breakfast. Upon arriving, there was a line out the door; this got me excited as surely this meant the food here was fantastic. Sadly, that was not the case. I ordered an omelette but was disappointed that it was overcooked and somewhat burnt. I'm a fan of diners, and compared to most other diners, the food here was slightly below average. Nevertheless, the service here was quite good. Despite an entirely packed restaurant, the service speed was appropriate and well-paced, and we didn't have a long wait for our food.

I was in Market Square and I was starving. Cherries is a cute little restaurant in the square. I ordered the early bird special. It consists of 2 eggs bacon home fries and a large pancake. every thing was cooked great and the staff where very friendly. I was in and out in 5-8 minutes. Take out only so I ate in my car. Breakfast was very tasty and hit the spot. If I am in the area again and in need of breakfastI will definitely stop in again.

Cherrie's diner is right down the street from our hotel. They have good reviews on Yelp, so we decided to try it out. I arrived shortly after it opened, and there were already several people at tables on a Saturday. I sat down at a table, and a server gave me a glass of water and said someone would be by to take my order. After 10 minutes, the server came to my table and I told him that I wanted to place an order for take away. He then took away my water and told me I would have to place my order at the window. I waited at the window for another 5 minutes and they finally took my order. I ordered two Early Bird Specials with over hard eggs, ham, and rye toast. I also ordered the cherry bomb pancake. It took about 20 minutes to receive my order. The Early Bird special was ok. The ham was very good, but the eggs were a mess. I'm not even sure I receive two whole eggs. Make sure you skip the cherry bomb pancake. It is a pancake with cherry pie filling dumped in the middle and folded over. It is supposed to have strawberries and blueberries, but I struggled to find more than one "mini-me" sized strawberry. Overall, Cherries Diner is an average diner, with menu descriptions that do not match what you will receive.

Cherries makes basic American breakfasts and lunches. A diner right off Market Square they work on the volume theory: sit down, order, eat, pay and get on with your day. The staff is courteous but not there to entertain you. The waitress goes around the room in a circle and takes care of needs as she goes. My Early Bird Special was correctly prepared and promptly served. Good, filling and value priced.

Good basic breakfast diner. No thrills. Eggs and meats all overdone unless you ask otherwise. No butter.

The Speckled Egg provided the upscale and elevated breakfast, that was a nice contrast to the rustic and local breakfast we had the next day. Our waitress was friendly and professional. After some deliberation, I went with a bowl that included eggs, chicken sausage, sweet potatoes and a nice garnish of dill. The dill surprisingly elevated the whole dish. My wife enjoyed an omelette. Coffee was also quite good! Nice start to a day of sightseeing! (The restaurant staff gave great advice about the nearby tourist attractions)

He was courteous, well spoken and friendly. We sat there for about 10-12 minutes. No one approached the table. We looked over to what appeared to be a bar area and we saw two servers standing there talking and showing each other their phones. My wife said, "With our luck, one of those two is our server." Sure enough, when they were finally done talking, one came over to our table....no smile and a big audible sigh. She asked what we wanted to drink, we gave our order and she returned with our beverages. After another 10 minute wait she came back to take our order. When asked about a certain dish, came another big sigh, eye roll and and a rote description of said dish. The food arrived and one of the orders was wrong. Another wait to get her attention. We asked for the item to be redone as we had ordered it. And she even asked how we wanted it! You got it...another eye roll and a big sigh. At least she was well oxygenated! The dish came back with the very same results. On that issue we gave up. Then came the wait for the check. Once again the two servers were chatting, no heads turned to check on their tables. My son went over to get the check. When the check arrived, it was attitude city. She accused us of picking on her because she was only a server. It's obviously how she saw herself. We then asked for the manager who was quick to side with the server. She said that nothing seemed to satisfy us and that we had a problem. IN SHARP CONTRAST. I have been to the Speckled Egg on the South Side many times. From the Host/Hostess to the servers to the bus staff, everyone had a smile, chatted with their customers, laughed and it was always a great experience. The manager came over since he recognized me from being there many times and we chatted for a minute. We are talking Night and Day. Completely two different experiences from server to management styles. To me there is only one Speckled Egg and one complete waste of time (Downtown).

General Manager Sharon and Assistant Manager Kelsey were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and genuinely seemed excited to help. The owner Len was EXTREMELY responsive to my email & text inquiries (which honestly is rare these days.) As a small business owner myself, I notice and appreciate that kind of effort immediately!! This place is absolutely underrated. Between the amazing staff, the aesthetic Instagram/TikTok worthy storefront, and food & drinks that are ACTUALLY delicious (because sometimes places only nail one or the other ), they've got the full package! Plenty of seating inside & out. clean bathrooms, self-service kiosks but they also have a register if you are lazy like me. Parking can be a little challenging, but there are several nearby garages that make it manageable. 10/10 experience. So grateful we got the chance to try smashed waffles. The cool vibe restaurant is tucked away up a short flight of stairs on Filbert Street. It gives the place a cozy, hideaway feel with brick walls and murals. It's pretty popular, so you might have to wait a few minutes for a table, but it moves pretty quick. The menu focuses heavily on crepes and French toast, and they do both very well. I went for a savory crepe that was loaded with eggs and topped with a rich sauce and diced vegetables. It came with a side of fresh fruit which was a nice touch. We also ordered a sweet crepe to share. It was beautifully presented with chocolate drizzle, berry sauce, and a massive pile of whipped cream. The coffee is solid too. Verdict: This is a consistent and reliable brunch spot. It was the perfect way to kick off my trip. I will definitely be back next time I am in town.

But the star of the show for me is the Shakshouka. I have gotten it the last 2 times I went. You also have to try their Dirty Chai. My only critique is the hostess at the front. She appeared overwhelmed by her role and was not warm. We were actually told by the waiters that "she is serious about her list". Which would be great if she managed it effectively. When I brought concerns that we had been pushed down the list 3 times for other parties. She responded "well, how do you know that" to which I responded "we watched you take their names down after ours and sit them before us". Her response was to shoo me off and tell me to go find a table myself; to which I did. But what a poor way to manage your stress, responsibility, and consumers. On the bright side my waiter/waitress was awesome per usual.
