P&G's Pamela's Diner is a small chain that's local to Pittsburgh that my friends loved going to while they were students in the city. We stopped by this location of Pamela's and instantly, I felt like I was transported into a retro 50s/60s diner. The multi-colored walls are decorated heavily with old-school board games. There's a veil of grease in the air that screamed the classic diner experience. SAUSAGE & CHEESE OMELETTE + Lyonnaise potatoes (side) + whole wheat bread (toast) The sausage & cheese (we asked for Swiss instead of American) omelette itself wasn't anything worth raving about as it was pretty typical. However, the Lyonnaise potatoes were phenomenal. It's that in between "hash and mash" texture, and it was seasoned incredibly well. The potatoes were definitely the highlight here, and the omelette was good protein, I guess. Definitely forgot about the whole wheat bread. BLUEBERRY HOTCAKES Soft, crepe-like wrap (a bit thicker than crepe but thiner than pancake) wrapped around blueberries and whipped cream. This was not too sweet and quire savory. They're known for their hotcakes at Pamela's and I can see why. I don't remember the individual pricing for each, but both were under $25 total. Definitely great tasting food for a phenomenal price. A seating hostess promptly greeted me and told me where to sit. Soon my courteous waitress took my order. The wait time for my foods was reasonable. I ate the croissant French toast, which consisted of croissants soaked in cinnamon-vanilla egg batter and topped with caramel sauce and nuts. It was very unique and flavorful. These are a must try for people visiting Pittsburgh and the 50s diner vibe is very charming. You're not coming for aesthetics though, you're coming for the bigger than a tigers head pancakes. Thin, crispy edges and a buttery coating made these absolutely delicious. The lyonnaise potatoes are also a revelation in richness and luxury. One point of because defacing these amazing pancakes with fake maple syrup was sad. Real maple syrup would've brought these to god tier. read more

Wait times can be lengthy as this is such a popular spot and right on the fringes of the University of Pittsburgh campus, but do not let that dissuade you from giving it a go! The wait staff was attentive, and the coffee pots flowed continuously throughout our visit. My wife and I each ordered a breakfast platter, and we shared them both. Wife's traditional breakfast consisted of the usual suspects of eggs, potatoes, bacon and some very unusually thin pancakes (which turned out to be the star of the show!). The food is just OK. For all the hype I find it to be average. Given that it's a diner in the middle of campus I get the popularity and the hype. But objectively it's middle of the road. If you want: not fast food, good quality, quick service (once you get in), and a decent price, this is a good option. OMG. Every time I visit Pittsburgh, I'm always asked..."did you go to Pamela's?" Each time, I'm usually rushed or can't make it due to some strange reason. This visit though, we had time. We had time and we're up early and went to Pamela's Oakland. And boy are we ever changed! For diner coffee, it wasn't half bad. (There are Starbucks and Dunkins near by if needed lol). But the pancakes - served crepe style - are life altering. Like, I can't have a pancake ever again without comparing it to this place. My husband was tempted by the Gail's Favorite eggs, which may just be our favorite eggs now. Oh and their lyonnaise breakfast potatoes? PHENOMENAL. Pamela's is delicious. I haven't been to a good breakfast diner in months and was pleased with Pamela's. I was a bit concerned that our waitress was going to be irritated with my table because they were super busy and our third person was running late. Yet, she never really minded just making sure we kept topped off. The coffee was flowing that morning! Upon arrival of our third person we ordered breakfast and everything came out fast. The portions are very large and an extremely good value. All our food was very tasty! I was very pleased. Checking out was a matter of taking the bill up to the register and paying. A frequent visitor of Pam's ( almost every weekend) the wait always looks intimidating but I never wait more than 15 minutes. I also never wait for food more than 10 even when it's super busy! I get tons of different food and have a goal of trying everything on the menu before I graduate! Pancakes are always a favorite and recently tried the waffle which I really liked!
