Always on the look out for delicious, stand-out breakfast places that aren't part of a commercial franchise and are worth coming back to. The list of these aforementioned places is small so I am happy to say that Cherry Pit Cafe has made that list. If you're looking for a mom and pap feeling then this is definitely your place. Nestled cozily in the heart of downtown Deerfield (make sure you know where you're going because this place is easy to miss) really gives it a homey feel. You walk inside and are greeted with a very long diner counter section for that old school feel followed by a section of tables in the back. Everyone is smiling at you when you walk in which is always a great feeling! Very extensive menu that offers a large variety of food to meet your taste palette without actually giving you an overcrowded menu that overwhelms. Fresh and bold coffee, tasty cappuccinos, and most importantly, the food was SO GOOD! Prices are very reasonable. Pros: Everything Cons: I would say nothing but I don't believe any place is perfect so I have to choose one thing... I would have to say that only con of Cherry Pit is the parking situation. The lot in the back provides amble parking but then you have to walk around the building since there is only one entrance. I will ABSOLUTELY come back here time and time again. Cute old-fashioned diner in the heart of Deerfield! We stopped in for a late lunch on a Tuesday so, not surprisingly, it wasn't at all crowded. I enjoyed an omelette while my husband had a burger. All of our food was very tasty (better than expected, actually). I highly recommend the waffle fries - I may have stolen a few off of my husband's plate. We had 2 servers - one was great, the other seemed a little frazzled and kept knocking things over. I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt and assume he was just having a bad day. I liked a lot of the decor, especially up front where there's a long counter with lots of seating. However, the back room, where the tables are, felt a little bit shabby and dated. Didn't affect the food obviously, but took away from the otherwise cute ambiance. Overall, very cute place with tasty food so I'm sure we'll be back! read more

Very disappointed in this neighborhood diner. I tried it before recommending to my family and I'm glad I did so. I arrived myself and was seated quickly at an open table. Since I was by myself I asked whether I should actually sit at the empty table for four. I was assure it was fine. Immediately, I was given the wrong order and rushed throughout the meal. I paid before finishing my plate and was asked to leave as I tried to finish my meal. It was embarrassing to be asked to leave while I was eating and drinking. I felt like I did something wrong and people watched while I left. I live two blocks away but will not come here again for sub par service as well as average but overpriced food. read more

We were in town for a soccer tournament and ate here every morning before games after enjoying our first morning here. What a lovely way to start off Labor Day! We dropped into the Cherry Pit in Deerfield based on other Yelp reviews! (THANKS!) What cool setting to enjoy breakfast on a holiday. It's set up much like an old school diner. Welcoming and cozy. The service was friendly, speedy, and patient. Lots of options on their menu. The prices were average for the North Shore area. Parking is it convenient, but it is there behind the building in a public lot. The staff was extremely patient. I am a bit of a Mexican food fanatic. They had tons of choices with South of the boarder twists. I had such a hard time deciding. I ended up over ordering on purpose. So much I had to try. I had a short stack of Oatmeal pancakes. I love the different texture than regular. I also had the Mexican eggs. The tortillas were like pillows of warmth! My hubby had the Denver omelet with potatoes. The potatoes are thinly sliced and have a nice crunch to them. He enjoy it. We both look forward to coming back to try something else! Johnny and I were in the Western suburbs and stopped for lunch in Deerfield yesterday at the Cherry Pit Caffe (cherrypitcafe.net). We meet Liz, our server. She lit up the moment she saw Johnny step through the door. She explained that she has a brother with Down Syndrome and loved that my brother and I spend time together. Johnny loved the attention. The BBQ burger Johnny had and the Chilaquiles for me ware just perfect! And for dessert we split the Crunchy French Toast. It was just amazing. Liz had suggested these options and a Shirley Temple to drink. This was just a wonderful, beautiful, and memorable meal. And to top it all off Liz gave us a most generous gift. Thank you Liz! This is a hidden treasure in plain sight. I have driven by this storefront cafe a hundred times and never stopped in. This small diner has all the basic and classic breakfast choices. However the real kicker is the unique specials. My wife has a bacon avocado omelet (delish) and I choose the turkey meatloaf skillet. The reason for not 5 starts is that I called a couple days ahead and made a reservation, when we came in they said we didn't have one but they'll pull some tables together for us and they'll be able to sit us shortly (we had a large party) What if the restaurant was filled? I was in Bannockburn, IL for a full week of training in June. Normally, I'm not a big breakfast person. BUT, all my meals were comp'ed by my company so of course I had to take advantage and max out every single meal! Long story short: my husband and I came back three times during our 5 days in the area -- which says a lot about this place because there were plenty of other breakfast spots around the Bannockburn/Deerfield area. The meals offered at this establishment were simple yet flavorful. The portions were huge! And the prices are decent (all three times, I never went over my breakfast budget of $20!) Drinks were always topped off by the friendly servers. Best of all, the atmosphere at Cherry Pit Cafe just oozed of warmth and love. You can immediately tell that people in the community truly appreciate this diner and enjoy spending time here. In general, I fell in love with the Bannockburn/Deerfield IL area. Places like Cherry Pit Cafe remind me that you can feel at home wherever you can find welcoming and warm people who are proud of what they do! We order curbside breakfast awhile back and it was not very good. The omelets were dry and cold. This past Friday 8/7/20 we ordered curbside for dinner. I had the Reuben and my wife had a patty melt. The corned beef on the Reuben was like cowhide!! I could not even bite through it! I ended up tossing the corned beef and just eating the bread, dressing and sauerkraut! I cannot believe that any restaurant would serve a sandwich that bad to any human! My wife's patty melt was rubbery and she ended up eating only the fries.
