This place has been around forever. According to recent reviews, it sounds like there's new management - I wouldn't be surprised. I used to frequent this place in high school and was curious about it. Back then, my favorite thing to get was their open face tuna melt (not sure if they have that any more) and their famous pumpkin roll (which I didn't see at the counter, bummer). Ambiance/ interior is exactly the same from decades ago. Fast/ casual, kinda small with small tables and seats upon entering. When it's warm you can usually sit outside. I noticed they now offer online ordering. I placed an order online and picked up at the counter- quick and accurate. I ordered a plain bagel with extra veggie cream cheese (they didn't charge me extra), garlic bagel with chive cream cheese, and turkey sandwich on plain bagel with lettuce, tomato, onion, mayo. The inside of the bagels are nice and chewy, but the exterior had a crunch that I'm not used to. The overall feel of the bagel reminded me more of a hard baguette? I still enjoyed the food. I wasn't expecting the garlic bagel to kill a family of vampires. I love garlic but some of the bites were a little bitter so I mainly ate the bottom. My friend highly recommended Chesapeake Bagel Bakery, I forgot that she recommended getting a bagel knot so I opted for the Spanish and Sausage breakfast sandwich on jalapeño cheddar bagel. I didn't think it was the best breakfast sandwich or bagel ever- wish it had a bit of a sauce or something because it was kind of dense and hard to swallow? Not necessarily dry... I'd like to come back again and try something else...maybe I just didn't have a great pick? As for service, I just stood there awkward because no one was greeting...took a while for me to order since I wasn't sure if they were still easy to take the order...I think I stood there for like 5-7 min just waiting. A long line for fresh bagels looked intriguing. The menu includes an interesting mix of specialty bagels, sandwiches and smoothies that are priced reasonably. The smell of the fresh bagels was mesmerizing. But something was wrong. A man seemed frustrated by the wait for his order. He inquired and the staff looked confused. No one took accountability. He waited another 10 minutes and grew quite angry and demanded his money back. By that time, my bagel came out and I left. The bagel was supposed to be toasted with butter, but there was no butter. I didn't want to return because of the fuss. They seem to have a coordination issue. I ordered the Specialty Four Cheese and Bacon bagel. The bagel was delicious despite the lack of butter. There are tables inside and a couple outside. There is plenty of parking in the strip mall. Maybe, I'd come back at an off time. The service is unfortunate. But the bagels are good. read more

Lots to be disappointed with this trip and I need to stop giving them chances. I came a half hour after opening on 8/10/25. Only had about half the varieties of bagel available. Not that big a deal. I was getting a baker's dozen and three small tubs of cream cheese. Arriving home I open the Honey Almond cream cheese to find mold growing. They used to date these cream cheese tubs and no longer appear to. That was disgusting. Next I find I'm 3 bagels short. Only 10 instead of 13. Missing all the cinnamon raisin. I know I can go back but (1) I shouldn't have to and (2) I no longer trust the freshness of the cream cheese tubs. I spent $60 and every part of this they got wrong. And no, they were not crowded. A bustling neighborhood spot to drop in and have a bagel or one of many sandwiches, but it can be a wait. Its a warm and active place on the weekends with seating inside and limited outside. The line was perpetually 9-10 deep the whole time. Most of the employees are teenagers but they stay busy and seem to work hard. It took a bit to get through the long line, and wait for the food; north of ten minutes. Delivered sadly in a plastic bag, which contained a paper bag. I hope they will ask or dispense of the plastic one day. The bagels are New York, which if that means less fancy than Einstein Bros, then a spinach bagel won't have any visible spinach. I skipped a schmear because of this assumption, and so it was quite dry, not like the fancy Einstein Bagels but also the same price. The sandwich was good, not something I will order again but not bad. Comes in a little paper container. Plenty of beverages. One thing that was tough was the menu. Tough to see from 3 people deep, and overwhelming at the register. The color contrast and font size make it tough to read, and there's a LOT of it. Is that bad? Not necessarily so, but when there are 10 people standing behind you and you've waited through 10 others, the urge to make a quick selection and move on can make things stressful. Others have compared this to Main Street Bagel, another fine establishment.. 3.4 miles away. That's fine, keep Main Street, Chesapeake Bagel belongs to Burke and we seem to really like, and so I will return. read more

Have been frequenting CBB for over 30 years. Bagel quality & service has been on a roller coaster of ups and downs. Bagels were good today, but the quality is not very consistent from visit to visit. The restaurant interior has not changed in 30 years either - time for a refresh. And of course, prices have gone up. Varying quality, service, and $$$ has impacted my visit frequency. read more

First off relaxing please. Occasionally you have to forget about carbs. They taste good. These are some fairly delicious bagels, and they have a good assortment of that. Tis a shame the coffee is disappointing. They hopefully will add jet fuel wake up java. As for its location, close to 123 and County Parkway. Finding a spot is a cinch. Ambiance - more a grab and go place... clean enough to eat there as needs be, but, when they are busy there are crumbs on the tables. Quick courtesy wipe takes care of that. We are neat freaks through and through. Service - Always nice. Always friendly. The sheer number of menu options slows the register down a bit. This isn't a great coffee shop, not a place for eggs and hash browns. If you want something like that there are plenty of other chain places around that do everything ok. This is a Bagel joint. The coffee is fine. The eggs are ok. If you come on a weekend there will be a wait. The bagels: They are as good as can be found locally. The everything 'flagel' is unique around these parts. They always give excess cream cheese. Eat it, scrape some off. You are the king of your bagel. Enjoy. The bagels are fresh. They are a little hard on the outside. They are a little chewy on the inside. You know you have eaten a bagel when you are done. I like the everything lox bagel. Not a 'clean eat.' Get napkins; you will need them. I went during off-peak hours. I saw a couple of reviews comparing these to NYC bagels, so I thought I'd give it a try. They have a wide selection of bagels and shmears (no vegan options). I'd say they're decent bagels in comparison to the "competition" of the area (not that much competition in NoVA imo), but definitely would not compare these to NYC bagels. The "skin" of the bagel is a much tougher and the filling a lot more dense (I could immediately tell when picking them up and confirmed when I cut it open). But again in comparison to the local competition of bagels, these are decent bagels with variety. read more

Sebastian, the cashier, assisted with the ordering of a Turkey B.L.T. + 'Avocado' on a toasted Everything bagel with mayo. First bite was bliss. Looking for a quick, local breakfast, my SO suggested picking up some bagels at Chesapeake Bagel Bakery. My son had a plain bagel with cream cheese and, as many others have said, there is such a thing as too much cream cheese and CBB needs to get it under control. It'd also save on cost since I imagine most everyone is wiping off half the CC from their bagel before consuming. I had an eggwich with Turkey bacon and pepper jack on an everything bagel. This was the more satisfying of the two items we tried. The cheese was well melted and the bacon crisp. The bagel was well toasted too. They were not too busy, so they immediately prepared the bagel. It was ready quickly. I enjoyed it. They allow indoor seating now, although the tables are separated more than before the pandemic. Why I Don't Tip. There's a tip jar next to the register as I'm ordering. Presumptuous. I order a sandwich. Whitefish salad on an onion bagel lettuce and tomato. Bagel is in the bin, everything else already made, easy peasy. I get my receipt # 21. Ten minutes go by - #19 Fifteen minutes go by - # 22 Seventeen minutes go by - # 23 Twenty minutes go by - # 26. I ask the guy handing over the #26 order where is my order? "They are working on it now" They? It takes collaboration to make my sandwich? Four minutes later another guy comes out and yells "21"? I raise my hand and he comes over gives me the bag and says, "Here's you order." Next time I'll go next door to Safeway, buy some whitefish salad, a bagel, some bag lettuce and a tomato. I'll cut the bagel and tomato with my pocket knife, toast the bagel over my lighter and still have the sandwich ready to eat faster than buying it a Cheasapeake Bagelry. Food service is first come first serve. That's what the numbers indicate, when the order was placed. No point in an expansive menu if you can't serve up the food. And that's why I don't tip. I bought the bagel and I expect to be served in the order it was placed. You tell me should I have tipped first for this performance? Pathetic. read more

I tried a blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese here one time on uber eats as an add-on order and it was really good. One of the better bagels and cream cheese I've had from anywhere. On another occasion though, I placed an early morning order here via uber eats and it was really bad. The bagels were really tough and hard, so I'm not sure if they were fresh bagels, or bagels from the night before. They were out of stock of a french toast bagel I ordered, and replaced it with an egg bagel, which is significantly cheaper and not a specialty bagel, but they did not refund the difference. Also I had ordered a cinnamon apple bagel and they gave me a cinnamon raisin bagel instead. Even the print out receipt on the order said cinnamon raisin, but if I go into my uber eats order history it states cinnamon apple just like I ordered. So it looks like there could be some technical issues where they have cinnamon apple bagels listed on uber eats menu but if you order it their in-store system will automatically change it to cinnamon raisin. I had no desire to eat a cinnamon raisin bagel because it's something I can get from any bagel place. Cinnamon apple is a much less common flavor. Also their blueberry bagel appears to be a plain bagel with real blueberry chunks mixed throughout. The strawberry bagel though, is totally smooth looking like a plain bagel but just has a pink color. The strawberry one appears to be using flavoring instead of real strawberries. It tastes fine otherwise. I would not order from here again because of being given the wrong flavor, charged an incorrect amount, and being given very hardened, dry bagels. If you get lucky and get a fresh bagel, the blueberry bagel with blueberry cream cheese is the best one. read more

Have been enjoying this bagel place for many years. Had a very unhealthy experience today. We bought a banana nut bagel with honey walnut cream cheese and a plain with strawberry cream cheese at around noon on Sunday the 19 th of December. Got it home 15 min drive and the cheese on both was very sour. Four adults and my teen son felt the same. My son actually threw up. Drove back and complained to the manager on duty. He took it back tasted it and said it was all fine. They make it weekly and it tasted fine. I was very surprised and told him that he should rethink about offering it to clients. He made me another set of bagels with the same tubs. I did not want to risk it again and got a refund. I took the bagels i bought back hime to get it tested with Food Safety. I waited 25 minutes while many others got their sandwiches etc. Finally i asked where my order is, and the fellow at the register said the hashbrowns got stuck to something and they had to make them over again. another 5 minutes and he bought me my order. The two orders of hashbrowns were smashed together in same foil wrap. Totally soggy, stuck together, obviously microwaved. Just awful, I threw them out.
