I called an order in for two bagel sandwiches 45 minutes before they closed today, a Tuesday afternoon. I gave them a good 20 minutes, and when I arrived, they had forgotten to make them. I was the only customer in there. Not the friendliest of employees either. I assume they were embarrassed they screwed up, but they never really much apologized to make any kind of difference. The only reason I rated them is highly as I did was because the two sandwiches were good. They were both very simple and easy to make, so how I could call in and order and have the person write it down and then forget to make them until I got there? Also, the vibe is not exciting. They have posters up around the store that look like they've been there for about 30 years. It's time to spruce things up, people. And the problem with things that look old is that they also look dirty. I didn't get the reviewers going on about how they're the best bagel restaurant in Centreville. They are the *only* bagel restaurant in Centreville. That by itself guarantees a steady clientele at breakfast and on weekends. By the way, I got two very simple bagel sandwiches (one was veggie cream cheese with lettuce and tomato, and the other one was egg and turkey bacon.) Like I said very simple. And a chocolate muffin that was plain chocolate cake, tasteless, and no chocolate chips mixed in at all, and two single serving bags of Sun Chips. And it came to $27. I go here every month or so. I usually get the veggie omelet, but I decided to try the house omelet with bacon. It did not disappoint. I did not need to put any salt or pepper on it. It was delicious. I fell outside the place on the street and dropped my omelet. The cashier was so understanding and made me another one without charging me. The Food: I went with the tried and true, Lox Bagel with red onion, capers and cream cheese on a plain bagel. The bagel was toasted nicely, there was a fair amount of cream cheese, however, the lox was a little on the saltier side for my liking. Overall, the bagel was good though. The Service: When I walked in, the menu was pretty straightforward and the staff got my order and had me on my way in a daily good pace. All the standard bagel sandwiches are available, but there is no pork roll (Taylor ham) available for the Central Jersey bagel enthusiast. Ham, bacon, and sausage are on the menu. Bagels are good as is, toast nicely, and make a great sandwich. The bagel sandwiches are good. The smoked salmon on my lox bagel was pale and subtle in flavor, what one usually would get when ordering Nova, but it made for a tasty sandwich, if not distinctive or particularly flavorful. It was served with cream cheese, red onion, and mild-flavored capers. My dining companion' s bacon, egg, and cheese was good, though he said it was a little skimpy in the fillings--keep in mind he's a Jersey boy accustomed to a bagel that's stuffed to the point of requiring one to unhinge one's jaw in order to take a bite:single egg, single slice of cheese, two slices of bacon. We also picked up a dozen of mixed flavors, and they all seem excellent. We will definitely return to this spot when we are in the area. read more

I came across this place this afternoon, I slept in after a late night out in DC - so breakfast did not occur until late lunchtime! I had never heard of the place before. Turns out - according to their web site - they used to be a Manhattan Bagel location. I went in, checked out the menu, they offer a wide variety of bagels, cream cheese selection (although not as many as Bagel Buddy), bagel breakfast sandwiches, a selection of lunchtime bagel sandwiches, coffee, tea, soft drinks, and the like. I decided to order something I have not had in so very long - I cannot even remember the last time I have eaten this - Bagel with Lox! I ordered the spinach bagel, toasted with Lox (smoked salmon, red onions, and cream cheese). Wow! Man was this delicious! Succulent! Mouth watering even! I also got an exciting bottle of Deerpark water to go with it. Not sure why I've gone so long without eating this - must remedy situation! The only reason I am not giving them 5 stars is the temperature of the place. It had been a while since my wife and I dropped by for breakfast but we saw all the same friendly, familiar faces still here. Normally we drop in to pick up a dozen bagels to get us through a week but today we were looking for breakfast. They offer several combinations of egg, meat and cheese on any of their dozen or more types of bagels. I opted for an egg, sausage and cheese on everything bagel. It takes a few minutes to get your order as they make everything to order. The wait was worth it though. I could actually get away with eating half a sandwich as it is quite filling. Great place, yummy stuff! Very friendly employees in here. Been in twice and they are always very quick. They seem to have lots of regulars that come in, which is a very good sign in my opinion. Got the bagel and lox on white and a sausage egg and cheese on white. Probably the cheapest bagel and lox I have ever come across and actually really good and fresh. $12 and change for the two. This place can best be described as average. My biggest pro was the variety of bagels available along with the selection of cream cheese. But the long wait and the amount of cream cheese really decreased the quality of this place. I just expected more when they said they've been open for twenty years. This is one of the only places in the area though so it was very popular but I would have rather traveled a little further. I tasted the jalapeno cheddar bagel with the veggie cream cheese. My friend had the Tijuana hot cream cheese. The lack of cream cheese made it super dry and hard to digest. I would come back here and maybe try the sandwiches to see what the craze is all about!
