Let this review be a reminder to Call Your Mother!…read more Call Your Mother started as a neighborhood bagel shop in DC in 2018 and has expanded to several locations, including this Old Town spot and I hear that one will be opening in Wicker Park, my Chicago peeps (if it hasn't opened already). My go-to of a toasted sesame bagel was just perfect, along with the garlic-herb cream cheese. My friend had a gleneagle bagel with candied salmon cream cheese and enjoyed it -- but it was stuffed and overflowing and a little hard to eat. This place is just so charmingly decorated, with friendly people, and nice portions of good deli food. It was also quite crowded (and we went early). Your mom will be happy to know that you're eating well. Call Your Mother!

I was in Alexandria and craving a good Jewish bagel, but unfortunately the place I usually go to…read morewas closed. So I decided to search for another bakery that had bagels, and that's how I came across Call Your Mother Deli/Bakery. First things first...parking in Old Town is parking in Old Town. It's going to be limited, especially on a weekend, so don't expect to pull right up. I had to circle around for a bit, but the spot I eventually found was only about a two-minute walk, so it really wasn't bad. When I walked in, the place was bright, colorful, and really cute. It has a bit of a loft-style feel and the space was very clean and well put together. The staff was friendly, though not overly talkative, but everything moved pretty smoothly. They had a good variety of options.Breakfast sandwiches, regular deli-style sandwiches, bagels, and juices. I decided on a turkey bagel sandwich on an everything bagel with a juice. Now here's my biggest con: the pricing. The sandwich alone was $15.99, and the juice was $4.99. On top of that, there's the regular sales tax plus the Alexandria dining tax, so the total climbs pretty quickly. After tip, I paid well over $24 for a bagel sandwich and a juice. For me personally, that's pretty steep for what is essentially a bagel with toppings. That said, the food itself was very good. The bagel was fresh, chewy, and flavorful, exactly what you want from a good bagel. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the sandwich was satisfying. My only small tweak would be that I wish I had asked for a little more mayo, but that's more of a personal preference. Overall, the quality of the bagel is definitely there, and the sandwich was delicious. However, the pricing would probably keep me from coming back regularly. At that price point, it doesn't even feel like an occasional treat. It's just hard to justify paying that much for a bagel sandwich. If price isn't a concern, the food is solid. But for me, the cost is the main thing that would make me think twice about returning.

I wanted to check out the OG Bagel Uprising location in Del Ray before their second location opened…read moreup in Ballston, and I was pleasantly surprised by the pricing and the chewiness of the bagels. I stopped by sometime in the early afternoon last Wednesday to grab something for lunch and some bagels to go. SALMON, EGG, & AVOCADO - 10.75 I was pleasantly surprised that three very expensive ingredients in a bagel was only $10.75. I feel like most places charges $14+ for anything with smoked salmon on it. I chose the plain bagel for the least amount of mess (even though the sesame or garlic bagel would have been great). My bagel was perfectly toasted with the perfect chewiness. It was still really messy because this comes with an over easy egg, and the yolk got everywhere. Overall, great bagel sandwich. 1/2 DOZEN BAGELS - 10 The server who took my order told me asked if I wanted 10 bagels for $10 instead -- how could I say no? I grabbed some plains, sesames, poppy seeds, and a garlic. I've only tried the plain and garlic so far, and the garlic is a bit messy and leaves a lingering garlicky smell after I heated it up. I kind of liked it, but not for everyone. My friend enjoyed the sesame bagel! HOUSE MADE VEGAN CREAM CHEESE - 11 I was curious about their version of vegan cream cheese (made of coconut cream and tofu), so I bought a tub to try. It's not bad, but I don't love it. It has a very strong coconut cream flavor, which threw me off, and it melts really easily and does not hold its consistency well. Overall, good try, but I'll stick with regular cream cheese next time. Thankful that Bagel Uprising keeps their pricing more reasonable. I'm excited for their second location to open in Ballston, which is much closer to me.

Nice bagel shop located in Del Ray district of Alexandria. This business is tucked away in a nook…read moreof Mt Vernon Ave and is not as obvious as other street side businesses. They offer a large assortment of fresh made bagels, a large assortment of cream cheese varietals/spreads along with their fresh house made coffee. All of which are quite tasty. Aside from the bagels they also offer a large assortment of bagel sandwiches. This is a counter order operation with no inside dining available. Uncovered outside picnic tables are available if you want to enjoy your food on the premises which we did on this glorious spring day. Relative to staff they are super friendly and efficient in getting the food out which is important as this business is quite popular on Weekend mornings in particular. Overall if you like fresh bagels than this business should be right up your alley.

My boyfriend and I decided to check out Happy Place after seeing it all over TikTok. While the…read morecafe itself is small and cute, the experience was a bit of a mixed bag. The Service: When we walked in, we stood at the host stand for a while without being acknowledged. Eventually, we just walked up to the cashier. Since it was our first time, we were clearly a bit lost, but there was no "hello" or "welcome" the cashier just handed us menus and told us to order at the counter. The lack of communication made the atmosphere feel a bit unwelcoming. The Price & Value: The bad part of the experience was the checkout process. The lowest tip option on the screen was 25%, with the highest being 32%. For a place where you order at the counter and receive minimal service, that felt very steep. I ordered the Barrio Breakfast and an horchata, though I was confused as to why I was charged for a more expensive "iced horchata latte" instead. My boyfriend got a bacon, egg, and cheese on white bread and a bottled Coke. Our total came out to nearly $60. The Food: To be fair, the food was actually very tasty and we had no complaints about the quality. However, in this economy, it's hard to justify the price for what is essentially a meal you could make at home for a fraction of the cost. Overall: It's worth trying once if you're curious, but because of the high prices and the awkward service, I don't think we'll be regulars. I only took a photo of my horchata since I forgot to take a photo of the meal.

It's not what I expected - it was heavier than fries and not the taste I go for. I'm not a house potato person. I enjoyed the fruit cup very much. The WiFi was great. The jazz music was the perfect choice for the coffee shop and it made my day. Go, enjoy
