I'm quite surprised this only for 3 stars. This was probably one of the best meals on our trip to Myrtle Beach. The complimentary hush puppies are to die for. The rolls were not that good and the cinnamon rolls are fine. You can always ask for more of any these if you run out, which you probably will. Also, I'd recommend asking for more hush puppies if you have food to bring home. The server (forgot her name =() was very polite and very accommodating. Even though I didn't know how buttered beans tasted, she said I could order it and if I didn't like it, she would switch it out for something else (I did like it, but I know some people wouldn't). Also, she allowed some in our party to order from the Early Bird menu when it was clearly past 6 o'clock Ordered the seafood platter (fried) which included oysters, flounder, deviled crab, shrimp, and scallops. You can order it broiled too if you're health conscious. First the flounder was very good, but I took off the breading as it was TOO much fried batter. Fried oysters were really good. I could've eaten them all day. Wasn't a fan of the scallops and the shrimp were okay, nothing fantastic. The pond in the backyard is home to turtles, fish, and gators. We were fortunate enough to see a gator pop his head out and we tossed it a few hush puppies and it chomped on them. read more

Love this place. Wait staff is always professional, great for large parties, just a few friends or a date night! The cinnamon rolls that come with the bread at the beginning of the meal are my favorite. And if you get there early/get lucky you'll get a seat by the window and get to watch the turtles during your meal. This is a must visit restaurant for us every trip to North Myrtle Beach! The bread basket with cinnamon rolls, sourdough, and fabulous hush puppies is wonderful. We go during the early bird hours 4:30-6. The prices are less and there is still plenty of food. The meals come with salad and a side item. You can add a cup of the fish stew (yum!) for $1. Awesome food! If you are over 60 and want flounder, shrimp, and devil crab try their senior meal. I could not believe the serving we received. Went for dinner while in town for a conference. The basket-o-carbs was amazing and the amount of food was very generous. I got the deviled crabs and baked potato, which was average. Chesapeake House was a real disappointment one of us ordered Lobster Pie no sea food lots of breading. I ordered Chicken Parmigiana it was on pasta with tomatoes and cheese it was watered down no taste. Wait staff was over worked. You can't go wrong at this traditional Myrtle Beach seafood restaurant. It may not have changed much over the many years its been here, but you really shouldn't fix it if it isn't broken. The bread basket and fish stew will get you off to a great start. The baked flounder is my favorite entree. If you like onion rings, they are great here. Me and my husband came here last night after going to Mr. Fish and not wanting to wait there for an hour, someone told us Chesapeake House was very good. We were seated immediately, and our server was wonderful. Very informative and attentive without being overbearing. The ambiance of the restaurant is wonderful, the view of the lake with the turtles and alligators is nice as well. The food, however, was not up to par. The quality of the food is not worth the price. I had sautéed shrimp and my husband had the fried seafood platter. Neither one of us were at all impressed. I think Chesapeake House is a nice traditional seafood restaurant, but I wish they would reinvent their menu to suit more modern tastes. Myrtle beach could really use a seafood restaurant for those who value fresher, healthier options. Collectively, we ordered shrimp creole, deviled crabs, and lobster pie. French fries were the side for my ten year old daughter, and even my toddler wouldn't eat them(and she requests fries every time we ask her what she'd like to eat). I think the taste of the oil combined with the bland seasoning made them less than tasty. The complimentary fish stew is good, and I liked the lobster pie, but it really needs a gourmet boost or at least some vegetables. My daughter did like her first deviled crab. For the money you spend, it would be nice if the food was a bit more updated in terms of freshness and nutrition. The bread basket is good and we loved the hushpuppies, and all you have to do is save the cinnamon rolls for dessert--there is no need to eat them first. read more

I'm not sure why this restaurant has been rated a 3.5 because the food is delicious and the customer service is outstanding. This is the place! My party arrived at 6:30 on a Saturday and we had to wait 30-45 minutes. The food was well worth the wait. We ordered 3 different dishes and all 3 were delicious. The seafood was exceptionally fresh. My friend and I tried the Chesapeake House because there were a lot of cars in the parking lot and thought that might be a good sign. We are sooooo glad we did. We liked it so much we returned 3 days later for an encore. I had the fried oysters and they were the best I have EVER eaten. The cinnamon rolls are to die for and they make their own salad dressing which is wonderful. My friend had stuffed flounder and loved it. This place has been around for over 40 years. We've been coming here of over 15 years. Everytime we come we get the same consistent high quality meal with excellent service. This is a family owned business and the staff is a great example southern hospitality. Anytime I ask a local where they go for seafood, I get only one answer. My husband and I have really had a hard time deciding where to eat in Myrtle Beach. We saw this restaurant, just driving around and decided to stop. I am so glad we did!!! We were going to get an appetizer but decided not to once the waitress brought out cinnamon rolls, bread, and hushpuppies (complimentary)... I ordered the Seafood Monterrey which was heavenly. It came with a ton of shrimp, scallops, and crab meat over a bed of linguine with a hollandaise sauce on top - it was delicious.. Different than anything I've ever tried. Hubby got the captains platter with fried oysters, scallops, shrimp and crab. He was in heaven also!! Both entrees came with a side, a salad, and fish stew. This place was highly recommended on Yelp, so we decided to give it a try. Bad idea. We know better than to go to tourist traps. The only item that was really good was the cinnamon roll. We paid $50 for a cinnamon roll!! The shrimp was soggy and had onion rings piled all over the top and the crab cakes were nothing but bread. I couldn't find any crab meat. Do not go to this place. Disgusting. We had to go get an ice cream cone after we left since we could not eat this food. read more

This is a family run place that my family has been to several times when we visit Myrtle. After living in Boston, the seafood is comparable to major city freshness and price! If you want non-fried seafood at a very reasonable price ($20-$26) this place is for you. Their grilled chicken is phenomenal; wonderful seasonings and not dry at all. I ordered the combination platter with fried oysters and fried shrimp. The fried oysters and the free hush puppies were amazing. Their homemade salad dressing is pretty good too (i got the thousand island). Next time, ill probably pass on the shrimp and just get the oysters. Our server was very nice. The hush puppies were AMAZING. My husband ordered the lobster pie, it was rather salty so was the sample of fish stew that came with our salads. I am really glad we just got a sample instead of having to order a whole bowl. I wanted the Chesapeake house flounder special that was breaded and should have come with crab on top but instead I just got a dry piece of fish. I was not in the mood to complain so I just let it go. The sweet potato fries were burnt but my husbands regular fries were cooked perfectly. I might give this place another shot but given the number of restaurants in the area it will not be any time soon. read more

My wife and I ate here last year (see my previous review) and we have now returned to this place tonight for our second anniversary. We had our reservation at 6 pm, we arrived and was seated rather uickly... and a table by the window too! Soft lighting, quiet atmosphere, my lovely wife and me. Great! She ordered the She-crab chowder, and it was rather tasty... I deduct one point however as she found a small shell fragment in her chowder. I let the waitress know, but there was no deduction or anything else compensated or otherwise offered for this extra in her showder. She also had the lobster pie.... huge portion, she couldn't finish. She knows however what she will have for breakfast in the am. lol. I ordered the platter, a different platter than our visit here last year. And I was specific, Meg Ryan in "When Harry Met Sally" specific. lol. And they followed my directions to the tee! The fried flouder, a light dusting of breading, fried to perfectoon... look at it hard enough and it falls apart, it was that good!! Also had the grilled shrimp, great portions, flavorful and spot on! Rounding out this awesome platter was fried oysters.... Bingo Boingo it was aces! Dessert? No way, we did not have room after eating all of that along with the awesome hushpuppies. They also brought sweet rolls, which we had to pass on simply because we already exceeded our sweet quota from earlier in the day. They also brought us some fish stew that went with the meal... and as before I will write it again, it tasted like nothing more than diluted chili! It was not impressive in the least. But hey, they cannot be 100% perfect,. they gotta have a flaw or two just to make the place totally worth it. So the pros: Good food, excellent atmosphere, prices reflect the quality and quantity of food, good wait staff too! The place is easy to find, good parking, and did I mention really good hushpuppies?! lol The Con: Early Bird special between 4:40 and 6 pm.... and there are a lot of "seasoned citizens" that ook advantage of this when we were there. We were the youngest there in a crowd of like 20 customers. The wait staff maybe could hav bussed the tables a liottle better, but that may just be me. No on the fish stew/soup/diluted chili... it needs more spices to kick it up a notch or just do something else entirely and get rid of the stew. We visit this location on every trip to Myrtle Beach and my wifes family has been visiting for at least 30 years. If you are a fan of seafood this place is probably one of the best at the beach! Portions are great, food has fantastic taste, staff is upbeat and friendly and they even serve you cinnamon rolls with your bread basket! This was a great find our last night of vacation. The decor is a little outdated but their quality of food and service more than make up for it! They start you off with hushpuppies and cinnamon rolls with their home made honey butter. Their fish stew was awesome and came with every entre. I had their house special of flounder with a crab stuffing on top - it was so well prepared and their house tartar sauce is the best I've ever had. My husband had their lobster lie which was rich and delicious. Their serving sizes are proportionate and you get great quantity and quality for the price. Ate here last year and had the crab claws for 19.99. They were big and meaty but very salty. Ate there this October and it was 22.00 and the claws were a lot smaller. One person in out party had chicken breast and it was so bad she didn't even eat it. I didn't really want to go back here but I was out numbered. Everyone has their own ideas of what good food is and this in my opinion was not good food. The service was very good and I tipped our waiter well. Wow! This restaurant is perfection from the bread bowl to dessert! The hush puppies, bread, and cinnamon rolls were an incredible start! We had a variety of food from the onion rings, mahi mahi, fried shrimp, steak, and the best scallops we've ever had! Be sure to order the scallops - ours were six GIANT scallops that were included in a platter, but were enough food to be a meal on their own. I've been going here for years, never disappointed. This is not a trendy place, but an old style family seafood restaurant. Bread basket is a nice treat, with sweet hush puppies and cinnamon roles to start your meal. Pricing is on the higher side, but on par with most Myrtle Beach prices. One of my favorites is the Chesapeake Flounder, which is covered in crab meat and baked crispy. I also like the lobster pie and deviled crab. If you have kids they will get a kick out of the alligators and turtles in the pond behind the restaurant. As with any restaurant in the area, go at the wrong time and you will have to wait. read more

We ate here on our second to last nite in Myrtle Beach. What a great place ! The food was excellent and fresh. We loved the bread basket of cinnamon rolls, donuts and sour dough. We had mahi mahi, steak, Lobster Pie and spaghetti. They were all very good. The service was almost better than the food. Our waitress Chelle was the absolute best, i will request her next year. She went over and beyond and was really on top of her game. For our first time there she made a very impressive impression on our family. We also liked looking at the Gator, Crane and turtles in the back lake. They told us it would be an hour wait but we were seated in half an hour. I would highly recommend this place. read more
