We ordered a hamburger deluxe. I ordered it medium rare and it was perfectly grilled. My daughter ordered chicken fingers dinner and the chicken was tender and juicy on the inside and crunchy on the outside. My wife ordered ravioli platter, it was decent but the sauce was salty. We ordered matzoh ball soup. It was good, I wish it came out extremely hot. The one platter came with Greek salad. It was very good. Some of the baby cucumbers were on the bitter side. There's not too many diners in Morris County that we haven't dined at. Tonight, we stopped in at the Chester Diner for dinner. Starting with the sign on the outside of the building, the place looks like it could use some sprucing up. The good news is that the food was very good. I went with a diner favorite, the cheeseburger deluxe. The burger with fried onions on it was very good. Everyone liked their food especially my mother-in-law with her pancakes. If you're in Chester looking for a decent meal, I'd give the Chester Diner a shot! read more

Stopped here after strawberry picking nearby. The women's bathroom was clean. Our server was friendly. Drinks were refilled and extra napkins were given without being asked. Nice touch. Everyone enjoyed their food. Kids mozzarella sticks and Philly burger were excellent. My Spanish quesadilla was probably the best diner quesadilla I've ever had. We will definitely make it a point to eat here when we come back apple picking. read more

Wow! I was a bit hesitant to visit this dinner but I am so pleasantly surprised!! I went here with a friend for brunch, the dinner is so much bigger on the inside than I expected and it's so clean and cozy! The food was so good, I got Waffles and chicken with some strawberries and they were all so crazy good! The chicken was so soft and easy to eat and the same goes for the waffles. The strawberries were also nice and sweet! Overall the breakfast here was amazing! read more

First time ordering from this place and will be last. Ordered the Triple Decker Chicken Salad, which is actually a SINGLE layer of smallest serving of chicken salad and a second layer of lettuce and piece of tomatoe. To add insult thectoasted bread was burnt! All for $20?!! Never again. read more

Clean, friendly staff, large food selection, price was reasonable for plate size, coffee pretty good, moderate to large size diner. Prefer to give 3.5 because burger was medium rare, prefer little over medium but im sure if i said something, they could have fixed that. Would recommend diner. read more

Typical NJ diner. The food was decent and the price is fair. I was not very happy with my service: I felt quite rushed by the waitress to leave. My partner and I did not finish our meals when we were provided with our check and told "no rush" but it felt like quite the opposite. read more

I grew up going to this diner. It's been years since I was there. Yesterday was very sad for me. It was terrible. They somehow messed up French toast. It was undercooked with a very weird taste to it that I can't put my finger on. The bacon was all fat. Just terrible. And what they charge for bad food should be criminal. With so many other choices around town I'm sad to say we will not be back. read more

When I came to Yelp to write a review for this diner, I saw how many bad, 1-star reviews they had, and I was very surprised by this! People said that the place was dirty, sticky tables and terrible bathrooms! Many people also complained about the service being poor! This was NOT my experience! My table was clean, the floors were clean and even I was surprised at how clean the bathroom was! (Something I cannot say about many places I've eaten at before.) We went for breakfast and the place was packed! When you see an empty parking lot, it usually is the first sign that a diner/restaurant is not very good. Our food was PERFECT! The eggs were cooked the way I asked them to be cooked (over medium). The home fries were some of the best I've EVER had, and the Virginia ham steak was not chewy and was perfectly grilled (not fried)! Oh, and the service was friendly and professional! Because many of those bad reviews were from 2 to 3 years ago, maybe they are under new management or maybe they just started cracking down on the staff. Whatever the reason, I would highly recommend this diner to anyone! I live 30 minutes from this diner, and we only stopped there because we were in the area. However, I would drive the 30 minutes just to come here again. That's how good it was!!! read more

Grabbed a quick bite here after visiting a farm near by. Got a Caesar salad. The lettuce wasn't very crisp and the dressing was VERY vinegary, wouldn't order again. Mozzarella sticks were not bad but nothing special. Would probably try to find a different restaurant if in the area again. read more

Last 4 times I was here the service was poor. The 2nd time after I sat down I simply left after 15 minutes of no one coming over. The last time was only because my wife wanted it. She agreed our service was poor. The food was OK, not great, not poor. The place was clean. read more

The reviews here don't lie, I would not recommend this place as the go-to diner. We stopped by after apple-picking at a nearby orchard. We were lucky to be seated quickly on a Saturday around 12pm because there was a line not long after we were seated and it seems like things really slowed down right after we arrived. Although our server was pretty nice, the service was not so great. She kept telling us our order would be right out but it took forever to come - at least offer the kids something to hold us over? Anything. Almost 45 minutes later (with 2 kids getting antsy) our order finally came. She got 2 of the orders wrong. Also, the server said it wasn't busy at all and she wishes it was busier. Seemed busy enough to us that we had to wait so long... Also, the other servers/people behind the counter just seemed plain rude and glared at us when we asked for an extra utensil set. Not warm and friendly at all. Check out another nicer local place. read more

Dear Lady with the Brown Hair in a Pony Tail and Glasses, Did I do something wrong to truly offend you? You very curt to me when I thanked you for the fountain drink refill, as well as asking for the soup specials. You even passive aggressively mentioned how my friend made your job easy because she smiled; how passive aggressive! I am so glad I was with friends because they gave me their water and some of their coffee, as the "nice" waitress was very slow on refills. I am very happy that the Mediterranean Wrap was delicious, as then I can be happy and not complain to the waitress. How ironic, that I suggested this place, as I saw it from the highway. Just wish that we went to Wendy's instead, as their next door competition would have treated me 1,000 times better! Good luck with this place! read more

It's a normal diner. The wait staff is not white glove. The food is not artisanal French bistro food. It's a normal, diner. Someone at her table had the cheeseburger and it was huge and they liked it. I had a buffalo chicken strip salad that was perfectly big enough that I took some home. Friend got the Idaho nachos which were also so big. He took some home. Waitress was very friendly asking we were from etc. the food came out pretty quickly. People are complaining maybe just haven't been to a regular diner in a long time. read more

Arrived at the diner around 1230pm. Greeted by an awesome young lady sat us at a table It was lunch time and very busy but the diner was under staffed. Observed two couples leave the diner who were seated before us and the waitress did not take their drink orders or come over and say she would be right over. Our Waitress had a horrible attitude. When she finally came to take our order. She told us she did not have all day for us to order. She pointed to her arm like there was a watch and said hurry up. The waitress did not come back to check on the table for more coffee or to see how everything was until she gave us the check. Although the food was great and I would give it a 4 1/2 out of five I rate the diner as a one star because of the poor service. Please put extra staff on when busy. These waitress' do work hard and when overwhelmed it takes away from their tips. read more

After visiting nearby Riamede Farm to go apple-picking, we stopped by Chester Diner for a quick bite. So glad that I only checked Yelp after we were seated because we would have never met our server, Jamie R., who was such a sweetheart. For a Sunday evening, the diner was not crowded and the food came out quickly. I loved the kids' menu because it was low-cost, their order came with a to-go cup + straw and ice cream. I ordered the chicken parmigiana panini, which I felt needed more marinara sauce and pink lemonade. I loved the free refills. Everyone (4 kids + 3 moms) was satisfied with the food and customer service. Bonus: The restrooms were clean. read more

Met a friend at The Chester Diner for lunch, directly off of Rt 206 North. Their sign was somewhat difficult to find as it was not easily seen from the road. I was looking forward towards an enjoyable lunch yet, other than the good company, it was not to be. We started off with coffee. Our server appeared to be unhappy with everything which resulted in negative vibes for us, her customers. Being a breakfast person who always tries diner food, I ordered the French Toast. Now, I am an expert on cooking French Toast at home and, also knowing where to get great French Toast. My plate consisted of thin "white-bread-like" slices that were barely warm. Their coloration appeared to be grilled on their flat top. Nothing I could add to this presentation would help it past the taste and visuality test. Upon paying our check, the Owner/Manager was on the phone having a (loud) debate with another person. He began this angry dissertation by reading off every menu item from his menu! Now, as customers, with other people behind us, we could all hear this rude, tumultuous behavior from the Manager! Needless to say, I will not be back, the significant distance from my home notwithstanding. read more

We've been stopping there for years and enjoying it. But this last visit was very disappointing. The French Toast was mediocre. Service was not great and the waitress was talking loudly about some illness or another. Will have to think twice before we go back. read more

Really sucked. Huge disappointment. This place was good many years ago. Server was negative and unpleasant. Food was mediocre at best (hence 2 stars). Charged us for soda refills at $3.25 each for a dinky cup. No more rice pudding. Won't be back. I hate leaving bad reviews. read more

The Chester Diner has been there forever. I first went there when I was a teenager, and I won't mention how many decades ago that was. For a long time, the food was really good and a great value for the money. Sadly, it has changed hands several times in more recent years and the food just isn't what it used to be. The quality just isn't there anymore. So disappointing. The wait staff is still very good, friendly and efficient. And the good ambience is the same as it was years ago. read more

Noticing that my last review is six years old, I think I will write an update. I stop in here once a year with between six and ten friends following the completion of the Southwest Morris Winter Bird Count. It's a long day of birding and this year I walked eight miles so I was in great need of some substantial protein. We always sit at a large table in the back so we can share and compile our sightings. Look forward to it every year. Great server this year. Very responsive. Everyone had their food quickly and their drinks refilled. I had a huge bacon burger with well done fries and two onion rings. The burger was well cooked, rare as requested. That goes a long way in my book. Delicious. The other guys had everything from whole wheat pancakes to half a broiled chicken with mashed potatoes. Everyone seemed to enjoy their meals very much. So, good food, good conversation and a comfortable environment. See you next year. read more

Food 5 stars one of the best bbq chicken sandwiches. Wish it came with soup. The over hard eggs are cooked to perfection. The quesadillas are perfectly crisp. I would've preferred for the tomatoes to be In it but that's just me. The chicken in the quesadilla and sandwich was juicy as well cooked. Cleanliness 3 stars. Bathroom could've been cleaner. Service 5 stars she was efficient and attentive. Don't remember her name but she did very well. Paying the bill at the end took too long so exiting desk, you get 2 stars. I wonder how the soup is....... I'd come back. read more

My family and I had gone to Chester Diner and were disappointed by the service. We ordered our food That which took about 20 minutes. As it arrived a lot of the food they had forgotten to bring out. Our server had came back And I order my son's hot dog which took around 25 minutes. We had to sit there waiting for him to finish. Not so great. Still an order of fries never came out. read more

Went with my family and friends to the Chester Diner after visiting Riamede Farm for the day. Our table was 2 children (2yo and 5yo) and 4 adults. First thing the waitress said to us was "You guys smell - were you at the farm? You smell like the farm." We looked at each other like what just happened? Food was eh. Took forever to come out. Waitress was running all over the place my burger was overcooked. My daughters pasta from the kids menu was a buttery oily mess. I'll be going to another diner after our annual trip to the farm from now on. read more

I've never seen a worse waitress in my life. She was rude, nasty and slow. I actually heard her tell an elderly man "repeat yourself without mumbling". Snarky replies to almost everything we asked. Mentioned this to the manager (maybe owner) and he said she's overworked. I'm overworked too but I'm not a jerk to other people. I'm taking my overworked money and going to a different diner. Will never return. read more

The place seems to be family-run, as we saw a bunch of kids, not older that 10 or 11, continually cleaning up tables and stuff. The hostess was downright nasty. The waitress was OK, not nasty. The food was fine. If you enjoy bad service instead of being treated well, this is absolutely, most definitely your place. You will not be disappointed. I have no idea why these people behave the way they do. read more

The sometimes host 'Sam' is very nasty to his staff. the names he calls them and the insults he gives them would have him sued if he were in corporate. This is done in front of customers. wait staff would be more pleasant if he watched how he spoke. Menu is very nice but his behavior doesn't make a pleasant atmosphere to have a meal there! read more

The porchetta sandwich was flavorful, though I personally found a few pieces a bit fatty with some skin, which wasn't my preference. The biscuits and cornbread on the other hand were fantastic! I also loved the cozy setup inside and the fun idea of having games to play while you dine. The staff was friendly and helpful, which made the experience even better! 4.5! Can't wait to come back and try more

It was fairly easy to find though going there, my map told me to go down a treacherous gravel road which I wasn't terribly fond of. They have a moderately sized parking lot and you'll see this large, red barn. That's where you get your goodies (there's often a line) and where their store is. We stopped by for a treat first. They sell ice cream, cider floats, and what is a "TikTok famous" coffee float with donut. We got: Cider ($4) - I didn't actually drink this. I got it for my kid with food allergies. He wanted ice cream but they do not know if the ice cream they use contains eggs or not so we played it safe. My kid thought it was okay but finally finished it later. He typically prefers regular apple juice. Cider float with donut - you have a choice of no donut for $2 less. It's like a root beer float but with cider instead of root beer, black and orange sprinkles around the time of the cup, whipped cream, and a powdered cider donut over it all. I shared this with my daughter. That donut was delicious! Warm, tender, and crisp on the outside. The drink was great! I do wish it came with a spoon because it got difficult finishing the last of it. Warning: if you have one of these, the bees are coming for you. They use some sort of caramel-like sauce to get the sprinkles to stick. Overall, quite good. Maple cider donut ($3): my sister got this and she said it was amazing, but she said she thought $3 was a bit much (the unglazed donuts are $1.25 each). She's vegan, so didn't partake in the float, but she also wasn't going to ask if there's milk in the donut. If you're getting only donuts, they are purchased in the store. They have tables and chairs nearby for you to picnic and enjoy your treats. Going through the gates, there was a table but they were busy with other people so we walked right in. There is no entrance fee, which was nice. You go through the apple orchard first. It seems like most of the apples have been picked through, though there are a lot of developing apples. Some of the nicer ones were way too tall for us; they don't provide ladders. We only managed to find one that looked nice. At the end, there used to be a sunflower field and the corn maze. It's epic but you don't know how formidable until you're past the point of return and realize it's not a kids maze. We were in there for a while! Even met other kids that thought they'd be lost forever. The corn stalks are taller than a human and they're pretty dense so you can't look over or through them. It's a true maze and I was impressed. I wish they would provide a paper maze puzzle of the corn maze because I'm so curious how it is from above. Lots of dead ends. What I can say is don't lose hope. You'll get there! (When we finally found the exit, it was almost like a dream because we had been staring at corn for so long.) In hindsight, it was good we ate something first. Once done, we explored the sunflowers and saw the pumpkin patch. As we headed out, we went to pay for our lone apple and we discovered THE CORN MAZE IS NOT FREE. It's $10 per adult and $5 per kid. They charged us $1 for the single apple. I guess they work on the honor system? I didn't mind much because that maze clearly took planning. Before we left, we visited the store full of baked goodies. I got a few cider donuts, a dumpling, and a piece of crumb cake because they just brought out a fresh tray. Plus a lattice harvest pie. The pies with crumble aren't vegan, but the lattice pies are made of vegetable shortening. Restrooms! They have a row of port-a-potties by the parking lot. They're actually the cleanest ones I've been to before. No sinks but they do have a dispenser of antibacterial hand gel. The openings are a bit large so if your kid needs to use the toilets, hold onto them. Overall, it was quite enjoyable and I definitely think everyone should go through a corn maze of this caliber at least once in their life. The apple pickings were sparse but at least you get delicious floats and donuts! Note: they have gluten free goodies in the store but they are nut based (almond flour). They also had one gluten free-vegan item.

It feels like a hole in the wall, but at the same time is actually very clean and thoughtfully decorated. I loved all of the pictures of old fashioned movie stars on the wall, and much preferred this ambiance to any of my local diners. Our server was a young man who we later found out was the grandson of the owners, who were sitting right at the counter table. It made Marilyn's even more charming to know that it really is just a mom-and-pop that an entire family rallys to takes great pride in. I was really excited to see cheese blintz on the menu, as this is one of my favorites but is not so common! I ordered this, along with a side of bacon, and a decaf coffee. My blintz was excellent and came loaded with fresh fruits and sour cream. It was better than the blintzes I used to order from my favorite Ukranian restaurant in NYC. The bacon was cooked perfectly (crispy!) and my coffee was awesome. I will definitely be returning to bring my husband. I am only knocking off one star (it hurts to do this because I really loved my food and experience here) because they only offer bottled water, they are cash only, and the bathroom was very VERY cramped.
