Walked in looking for lighting for the outside of my house and the guy behind the counter looked annoyed to be disturbing his lunch to help me. He then told me to go downstairs to get help from the supply store. Went down there and they sent me back upstairs to talk to the lighting store and said "they are too lazy to usually help"... Went back upstairs and the guy looked annoyed to see me again and when I clarified my request, he threw a catalogue on the counter and said "pick what you want and we will order it". The lady nearby barely looked up from her computer and said everything was back ordered and would take weeks and weeks. I said great I will look online and walked out. Clearly they didn't want to help me. Went to Capitol Lighting and they helped me design a whole outside lighting plan, ordered it and it will be arriving in a few days. read more

I am so happy with my new lighting fixtures! My kitchen was very dim, and John was very helpful in listening to my situation and making suggestions between lighting choices to brighten up my kitchen. He even suggested the best bulbs to get the most output and explained to me how that would impact the lighting. I purchased new lighting for both my kitchen and dining room and they both look beautiful and have improved the rooms. Items came in quickly and follow up was prompt. After six months of them wasting my time and the electrician not showing up for a scheduled appointment---they now tell me they don't do installations after all. So basically they're just a store --- offering the same products one can buy through Home Depot or Lowe's. read more

Just bad. The people who work there don't want to do anything and act like they are doing you a favor when asked questions about their products and services. The personal phone call was more important than the customers walking around the store. It makes sense why the store looks like it's going out of business from the exterior and interiors. read more

Agree the abrasive woman who works on Saturday is awful. After never getting return calls from a salesman at this store, I brought my husband in to show him what I was thinking for a room. The "Saturday woman" talked over me when I was trying to tell him what I was told by their rep and the salesman. She refused to stop talking (forget about listening!) even when I pointed out she was talking over me. She wasted time looking things up that I already told her I knew from their rep - yet she still got it wrong. Go to any of the other lighting stores in NJ for more customer centric sales/design help. I walked out vowing I would never waste my time at this store again. You can do better. read more

The customer service at this place is just horrible. I think the woman there on Saturdays thinks she's actually being nice and helpful but is just so innately bitchy that she can't possibly make a customer feel welcome or assisted. The incessant gum chomping doesn't help. read more

I had a $500 credit and went in to buy a $1000+ chandelier for a new home. The sale person was not happy when I refused to buy other lighting that he was peddling. The worse part was that he took off the credit after ringing up the chandelier with the tax, instead of taking $500 off the price of the item upfront. I'm surprised that they have been in business for so long. read more

I walked in and not one person took the time to say hello! After asking for help a lady with horrible listening skills told me what she thought I was looking for! She was extremely aggressive and wouldn't let me finish talking. It's to bad because I found what I was looking for however, I rather go purchase it somewhere else! I placed an order through their online website as they did not have the lamps that I was looking for in their Chester store. After placing the order, they stated that the lead time for the lamps was 3-4 weeks, which wasn't a problem. A month went by and I never heard anything about my order, so I called the number on my invoice. I placed 4 separate calls and spoke with 4 separate individuals. All 4 people promised to return my call with an order update. Not a single person returned my calls and not a single person was able to give me a status update on my order. Each said they had to call the manufacturer for an update. After a week and a half went by with no response, I emailed them to cancel my order. Again, no response to my email. I then ordered the same lamps from Amazon, who shipped them directly from the manufacturer, and I received them in 3 days for a lower price. I would not recommend Chester Lighting due to their poor customer service. read more
